Ira Gershwin Revisited was one of the most fun of the Ben Bagley Revisited series. He assembled a great cast and Dick Hyman provided really wonderful arrangements.

Aside from the many classics written with brother George, after George’s sad and untimely death at the age of thirty-eight, Ira went on to collaborate with some other great composers, with much success, including Vernon Duke, Burton Lane, Arthur Schwartz, Harry Warren, and Kurt Weill. Ira’s facility for wordplay and rhyme is absolute genius – his turns of phrases, his titles, the ability to put a smile on your face or bring tears to your eyes or make you laugh out loud was, in a word, dazzling.

For Bagley’s Revisited series, the songs were not the hits, but the lesser known works and sometimes completely unknown works. Ira Gershwin Revisited is loaded with gems. There are several wonderful songs from the 1953 MGM musical film Give a Girl a Break, which starred Debbie Reynolds, Marge and Gower Champion, a young Bob Fosse, and an uncredited George Chakiris. There are songs from George White’s Scandals, The Barkleys of Broadway, A Dangerous Maid, Treasure Hunt, Ziegfeld Follies, The Firebrand of Florence, Where Do We Go from Here, and Park Avenue.

This thoroughly delightful album is loaded with sparkling performances by Blossom Dearie, Mary McCarty, Danny Meehan, Charles Rydell, Ethel Shutta, and Margaret Whiting. For the original CD release, Bagley added a few songs, and those are sung by Dody Goodman, Paula Lawrence, KT Sullivan, and Arthur Siegel. Honestly, who could ask for anything more?

When I introduced her to Annabelle, she said, ah yes, the famous Facebook star. So, Karen was off to pick up two harps and she told me that she was playing a production of The Fantasticks, tripped and fell one night, and played the last three performances with a broken wrist, which has now healed.

(Seating's not tight for getting in that particular night, that perf they think never is; but sounds like they may even try if possible to hold us 5 specific "good" seats. Like as i said, I really need an aisle, and any other specific needs for our group.)

Those people/companies who cheated her out of her money should be ashamed of themselves.....but of course they are not.

It was interesting to see her children. My friend Patrick Agan wrote a biography of Hedy, but I don't think it was ever published. He spent a lot of time with her in New York in her final days. He said she was a very smart woman but loved her plastic surgery....and he said as was reported in the documentary - she advised her doctors exactly how to do what she wanted done.

The last few minutes of the doc, when she had stopped going out because the surgery had really taken its toll on her, were very sad to watch....but I did like it when she called her son while he was accepting an award for her....."I'm in the middle of it....."

My HMO cannot even find the missing payment I made and they claim I didn't, even after I've sent them the canceled checks.

When HMOs started they were supposed to make everything more efficient. I've yet to see that. I've also yet to see a well-managed HMO. UCLA was horrible and my last referral at Cedars-Sinai took six weeks. I can't understand how the Powers That Be at these institutions think they're doing a good job.

Anyway, Jean Renoir had some great comedy in the flick, including one of the best train station departure scenes I've ever seen. Just a sweet, wonderful movie.

I knew almost nothing about him, except he was a genius. So, far the book has covered his theater addiction and how he did many of his designs for scenery before taking the ideas further. He apparently improvised beautiful music on the fly (perhaps the first jazz lyre player) and wrote lyrics that were considered very good for the time. Humble beginnings for a gay bastard from the town of Vinci.

It really went quite well and all the changes I was very insistent on have really paid off. I would be perfectly fine going into rehearsal with this draft - I wrote down just five or six word things that are impeding the rhythm in a laugh line, but that's it, and I decided to cut the second verse of a song that Doug had asked me to extend - I want to do what in essence would be that verse but not sung - with a pas de deux - so, that's leaving the script.

That's a shame. I think with my homeowners insurance, I would have to wait for an agent, too. The company I work for lets you upload photos of your damage and then deposits a check in your account. It's quick and it works. We settled all of the Sandy claims within three months.

One of these days I have to figure out if I would do better switching home and auto to my employer.

He also said you can now check out up to 10 videos at a time, which is great on those weeks when everything comes in all at once.

I've been toying with staying near the airport the two nights, which would make getting to the airport Friday morning very easy.

Maybe George and TCB have an idea of what part of Seattle is convenient for them as to meeting up during the day on Thursday. Looks like after whatever we decide as plans for the afternoon, we should try to be at Redmond Town Center by 6, pick up the tickets (assuming I can't get those in hand Wed. night) and maybe have dinner in that complex?

I doubt we will want to stay near the airport since we are driving.

A few years ago, we lowered our number of holds (reservations) to 25. I forget how many it used to be, but we don't have different amounts for books versus AV items, only physical copies versus digital downloads. We can only request 8 items and have up to 12 digital items checked out.
