I didn't know The Swingle Singers stayed active and as prolific for as long as they did. That first iconic album, Bach's Greatest Hits, was issued around 1963. I bought it and wore my first copy of it down as quickly as Mary Poppins and West Side Story and other personal landmarks at that time. I clearly remember its impact. It was a sensation, not to use the word lightly, especially among our high school choral department where we also played that record to death at every chance. Our wonderful director also loved it and she eventually got us the SATB arrangement of the signature "Bouree" which at some point we performed. I might even have phonographic evidence of that.
Travel vibes for DR JANE & KEITH.
It rained a LOT here last night during rehearsal....a lot and HARD.....and it is still raining this morning.
I have a six month follow up appt. with my radiation doctor....Dr. Val from the Ukraine.... And of course my colonoscopy on what I have left is on Monday....
More travel vibes to Jane and Keith!
Until then, two metal Hard Knock Life buckets have been reduced to collected rainwater....ah the vagaries of Show Business... Of course only ONE of them made it to the stage during the most recent production....no time for scrubbing them floors when there's flipping and flopping to get done!
Jane, I don't know if I mentioned it here, but there were an unusual number of planes with delays and changed gates at Seattle/Tacoma Airport last Friday. But they did let everyone who gave an email address know by email.
More travel vibes to Jane and Keith!
Elmore, is La Diva Annabelle going to audition for this supposed upcoming film of Cats? Or is she too good?

I’m ushering tonight for William Shatner, who is hosting a showing of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
The MUNY thing is, well, Jerome Robbins' Broadway is a revue of many components and this particular brouhaha is, for me, rather inane. So, what, in order to satisfy everyone who gets triggered by these things you have to have an all Asian cast performing ONLY The King and I Section? Which means that all-Asian King and I cast will be playing all the other characters in the show? Because you have a large cast in Jerome Robbins' Broadway and they play multiple roles - they have to be the BEST dancers around, too. So, do you have a cast of 100 so that every ethnicity is cast with that ethnicity whether they're the best dance or can even handle the dancing at all? I would understand this if it were a production of The King and I but it is not. I'm sure white people are playing Sharks, I'm sure Hispanic people are playing Asians, I'm sure African-American people are playing roles that were not written for African-Americans - because it's a REVUE made up of SCENES (dance numbers) from a whole lot of shows.
Appt. went well...thank you, DR JANE.
If buying The Swingle Singers on Amazon - the album you want to start with is Jazz Sebastian Bach which is the original title of Bach's Greatest Hits. But be careful - two versions available - one replicates the thirteen tracks of the original LP - but the other, which is a legit release from the same label issued five or six years later, contains the follow up volume of Bach and has 23 tracks - same mastering but much better value for money so make sure that's the one you get. It's fantastic. Today I got the Swingles album Anyone for Mozart, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi? It's fantastic, too - amazing really.
All packed for my trip to Chicago. I leave early in the morning so I shall say goodnight.
I will say that the thirteen-track edition sounds just a wee bit better, but it's so minor that it doesn't really matter.
Safe and easy travel vibes for DR Kevin.

I just hope they can get the entire creative team responsible for the film, A CHORUS LINE, to make the film version of CATS!

That would be cool! Hope you enjoy it.
George, yes, I first got the thirteen-track version because I didn't realize the other one had been released. So I could do the direct comparison. I just find the thirteen-track version to have slightly cleaner sound but really doubt most would notice it.
I was on my feet for the whole three hours.
My Hunky Eye Doctor - that's the title of my next novel, the one after Get Me Off This Damn Page.
They have my street closed about a block before my apartment.
Fortunately, it remains open to local traffic.
Tomorrow night, TRacy and I are going to dinner and then to see LITTLE SHOP OFWHORESHORRORS.

I would hope so! Do you have to show ID to get through the barricade?
THE most frustrating thing about The Swingle Singers is that Philips issued a box set of eleven CDs that included all the original group's albums through 1972. And this marvelous box set can be found NOWHERE - I mean not even at exorbitant prices - I mean it does not exist anywhere, and believe me I have looked EVERYWHERE.

Who's doing it?
Usually, when I go to the closing weekend, the show turns out to be really good, but it is too late to tell others to go see it.

Tonight, I decided to go to Olympia Little Theatre's production of Suite Surrender and this is their last weekend, also.
But it is only a one day heat wave.

I don’t think I am familiar with that show.

Next season, John Munn is scheduled to direct A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Tacoma Little Theatre.
