Title: THE SORT OF DAY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sort of, and now it is time for you to post until the sort of cows come home.

Today is going to be a day.  I agreed to help my sister with some things around her house like moving couches up and down stairs, moving or restacking wood, installing a ceiling fan, things like that.

:P is what I say...but I got talked into it, so I'll go.

Peggy is now singing Losing My Mind.  It's very nice save for the Bacharach-like arrangement - and even that is weirdly fun.  I love the song Where Did They Go, too.  The purists hate these later Capitol albums and let me tell you what I think of the purists.

And the incredible orchestration for Where Did They Go?  Don Sebesky.

I had to laugh on Facebook.  This guy bragged that in their reading series (staged concerts) they were going to use the full licensed orchestrations for The Most Happy Fella.  So I Googled.  If you can believe it, the original orchestration for Happy Fella had thirty-seven musicians.  So I posted that I thought it was great we were going to finally hear those great orchestrations again by the full band.  He quickly responded that that's why he said "licensed version."  I looked that up - it's for about twenty players.  He then told me to stop raining on his parade.  I told him I'd let him know when I was raining on his parade.  I've been very good about being silent with this guy's posts - I know him from a long time ago - don't want to say why - and he's one of the many people to whom I suggested Li'l Abner with me directing.  Of course, like all the others, he took the suggestion and not me - but I didn't care because it was after my production.  But I wrote him and told him I would never understand why people do this kind of thing.  He fumfered around and I let it go.

Yesterday like Elmoore I also came on and Thursday thread was still up and did not have the time to post my film choice.

So with all the other excellent choices, my fav is:

Colossus: The Forbin Project (1969)

This is the first time Eric Braeden used this name as his stage name.
Paul Frees was the voice of Colossus

I had a dream last night that was no doubt inspired by DR elmore's adventures with Annabelle and Thatch.   I had somehow adopted a dog and two kittens.  The people from the adoption center were in my apartment too.  I suddenly remembered that you have to have kitty litter for kittens and figured I'd better rush out and get some.

I just woke from a nightmare.  I was in charge of a recording of Oklahoma! and the producer, whose duplicity is amazing, was a former acquaintance I do not trust at all.  I had discovered after learning that my friend Tim was playing Judd in "Pore Judd is Daid" and another singer was recording "Lonely Room" that this producer, with no authority, had cast each song separately.  I was trying to clean up this mess and the producer had conveniently made himself unavailable.

I posted this on FB late last night, and the comments are still coming in.

The world is in BIG trouble.

My wife went to the grocery store today; paid with her ATM card.

She's writing the transaction into her check register, and the clerk at the register, a guy in his early 20s, asks her what that was.

He'd never seen a check register before.

Where do these people come from?

Annabelle and Thatch were happy when I told them this.  When last seen, Thatch was in the litter box trying desperately to bury one of Annabelle's more stinky messes.

I have one too.  A former co-worker, who had been in the military and lived all over the world, did not know what a postal service mailbox was.  She said that if she needed to mail something she took it to the post office.

I remember a relative had been scared that my nephew at age 11 or 12 didn't know how to use her rotary phone until she showed him.  But he really had never seen a rotary phone before, being born in 1988.

TCB, I'm sorry  you were upset by that dream.  It sounds like you were trying to make everyone feel better, while this person preferred chaos.  But I guess Dream-o-matic may be a better arbiter.

On the bright side, if there is one, you must have made BK happy by telling it in so many posts!

You know everyone hates you.

That is the first sentence of the third volume of my memoirs.

The Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that DR TCB's dream shows that he feels theatre is a group effort and does not depend on any one individual to accomplish its goals.  Although he feels at ease when he is charge, he also appreciates being a member of the cast. The jarring cast member and his comments tells us that DR TCB will speak up when it is for the good of the show, but that he remains silent when it comes to personality conflicts...USUALLY.

That guy on Facebook posted again and said my original post was very snarky or something along those lines.  I told him snark was in the eye and ear of the beholder behearer.  He then did the typical victim thing and said for the record he thinks I'm genius and brilliant at what I do.  He didn't actually narrow that down to producing CDs, but that's exactly what he meant since that's all he talked about in that regard - he would have no idea if I was a brilliant or competent director because he's never gotten off his butt-cheeks to see any shows I've done, which is sadly typical of these people.  I told him I did not think I was a genius - just a hard-working sort who enjoys what he does and hopes people come along for the ride.  I should think another response from him would not be a good idea :)

Ever notice how back when their site was popular, that chat site would take down the weirdest things - to me, the strangest was a link to a site put up by Dorothy Collins' family to honor her, apparently because there was video of Ms. Collins that concerned one of the site owners, but clearly didn't concern Dorothy Collins' family.

But now, it seems people talk about anything at all there.

I will gladly take some good vibes that we like our new next door neighbor/s.  I have no idea who purchased it.  Plus fingers crossed if they do any remodeling it won't last any length of time.  There are horror stories of year long remodels.  While there are time restrictions to when the loud work can be done it is still unpleasant to hear it during the day.

Magnificat Rescue posted this news about Mego last night:
We did it!

Mego got discharged from VERG Brooklyn this afternoon and is now on his way to his new foster home, where he will get the finest care and tons of affection. He is being very good in his carrier in the car.
He was so funny when the fosters were getting detailed instructions about his care and how to feed him through the tube. He would not stop exploring - he must have been stir crazy after being in the ICU so long - and his attitude was that of a cat who could take care of himself, thank you very much. And then he got into his carrier by himself and announced, "C'mon, people, let's go, let's go, LET'S GO!"
Mego is too excited about leaving the ICU to express his gratitude. But all of us at Magnificat would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this wonderful outcome:

Dr. DiFazio, Dr. Brida and all the ICU staff at VERG Brooklyn for the care they provided Mego;
Mego's many supporters, for your generous donations and your continued encouragement - we truly believe that your prayers and good thoughts helped him get through this harrowing, life-threatening infection;
and Kathleen and Mike, who drove all the way to Brooklyn to get Mego and who will foster him until he is completely well. He could not be in better hands.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

And today’s report:
Mego is still getting used to his new foster home. He is confined to a bathroom temporarily, and although he has plenty of room to roam he prefers to stay between the toilet and the wall ...for now. Give him a day or two, and he will be meowing to be let out to explore.

I am listening to a third CD from the swing set.  The first half of the CD was Ella Fitzgerald.  I think I will need to keep this one.

I started to watch one of the Streisand 60s specials and promptly fell asleep for forty-five minutes.  I had a little bit of teriyaki chicken from Gelson's over some white rice.  Very good.  I saw a bit of the act one finale for the Sherman event, and that's going to be fantastic.  Otherwise, I've been listening to lots of music and organizing.

Listening to an utterly amazing CD - Lotte Lenya sings Kurt Weill (with bonus tracks).  She wouldn't even get cast today because today they don't want unique, they want everyone to look and sound the same. Today, Mary Martin, Merman, Channing, Lenya - none of 'em would even rate a call back - that's how far we've sunk.  This woman has so much history, pain, soul, heart in her shaky voice - it's unique and we like unique.  If you don't have this Sony Masterworks Heritage CD it can be had for four bucks.  Get it and thank me later.

Peggy is now singing Losing My Mind.  It's very nice save for the Bacharach-like arrangement - and even that is weirdly fun.  I love the song Where Did They Go, too.  The purists hate these later Capitol albums and let me tell you what I think of the purists.

I'd never heard that version.  I just found it HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XIfFAlW2IE) and I like it. :) I remember years ago hearing a cover version that was (to me) like an uptempo 1920s style.  I wish I could remember who recorded that.

Today, I went to my sister's and helped her move a couple of couches (fortunately, they weren't big couches) from her garage into her house.  One went upstairs into her daughter's TV room, and the other eventually went into her living room.

The one that eventually went into her living room had a broken wooden support in the middle of the underside, so Larry (my sister's boyfriend) and I kind of fixed it.  I think if people sit down gently, it'll be fine.

Some people...just don't teach their kids!

~~~Nice New Neighbors Vibes for Jane!!~~~
Magnificat Rescue posted this news about Mego last night:
We did it!
Mego got discharged from VERG Brooklyn this afternoon and is now on his way to his new foster home, where he will get the finest care and tons of affection. He is being very good in his carrier in the car.
He was so funny when the fosters were getting detailed instructions about his care and how to feed him through the tube. He would not stop exploring - he must have been stir crazy after being in the ICU so long - and his attitude was that of a cat who could take care of himself, thank you very much. And then he got into his carrier by himself and announced, "C'mon, people, let's go, let's go, LET'S GO!"
Mego is too excited about leaving the ICU to express his gratitude. But all of us at Magnificat would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this wonderful outcome:
Dr. DiFazio, Dr. Brida and all the ICU staff at VERG Brooklyn for the care they provided Mego;
Mego's many supporters, for your generous donations and your continued encouragement - we truly believe that your prayers and good thoughts helped him get through this harrowing, life-threatening infection;
and Kathleen and Mike, who drove all the way to Brooklyn to get Mego and who will foster him until he is completely well. He could not be in better hands.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
That's wonderful!! :D
