Well, you've read the notes, the notes were rough, and now it is time for you to post until the rough cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: NORMCORE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't remember. ::) It may have been in reference to Company in that Company and Burt Bacharach's show Promises, Promises had the same orchestrator and a similar sound. The first song of his was probably one sung by Dionne Warwick that I heard on the radio.
-
Well, last night's Legally Blonde production meeting went well. I found out that they want the props on Friday! :o I still have a lot of paper props to print...things like Elle's resume, the syllabus for the students, Callahan's announcement of who are the interns for the big act two trial, easy things like that.
-
I also still need to get a couple of magazines. ELLE and TOWN & COUNTRY are specifically mentioned, so I need to get those. Hopefully, the local Barnes & Noble has them both.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
George, do you actually need those magazines, or can you print covers off the net and put them on any old magazine?
-
vixmom, that's an interesting choice to hire two assistants for you, rather than replace the co-worker who left a few weeks ago? (or is it in addition?). It sounds like he's elevating you by giving you an actual staff that answers directly to you..
So glad you're back on HHW!
-
TOD: I think it was most likely "Raindrops Keep Falling' On My Head" because I remember really wanting to have that record to play over and over.
We also somehow had the "Lost Horizon" album or some version of it before the movie opened, before the opening in L.A. was on TV. I already knew the songs pretty well before any word really got out that the movie wasn't going to be a success.
-
Good morning, all!
-
This morning I will go to Harlem and see if I can tackle my HMO about that missing payment.
-
MY son, David, will be visiting me in Austin later this week.
Haven't seen him in a couple of years.

Have a great time, Druxy! Any specific plans?

Good morning to all
And I guess I will have to make my next post something special :D
-
MY son, David, will be visiting me in Austin later this week.
Haven't seen him in a couple of years.
Enjoy your visit. I hate our children living so far away. Thank goodness for video chat.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good news, Vixmom, on the assistant.

TOD:
I think the first Bacharach songs I ever heard were "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and "I Say a Little Prayer". My sister was in the pop choir at her high school and those were the kinds of songs they sang. I really don't remember when or how I learned they were both written by the same person and his name was Bacharach. But shortly thereafter, I learned about "Promises Promises" and I fell in love with that show.

Yes, but I'll never tell.
:D

The Harlem trip took me two hours, and this accounting error will be removed from my account within five business days. That's what I'm told. I'll believe it when I see it.
-
Good morning.
-
I went outside at 5 a.m. to work on the yard. That *$&% bermuda grass took over my flower bed. I am part of a garden tour this fall, so I have to get working on it.
-
Now it is too hot to work in the yard, so I will work inside.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I’m having to look at a list of Bacharach’s songs for help on this, but even that doesn’t clue me in on exactly when I really became aware of him as the composer.
There are certainly a few I was used to hearing before these, but “What’s New Pussycat”, “What the World Needs Now”, “I Say a Little Prayer”, and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” are the ones that span my high school years, and I think these cumulatively opened my eyes and ears to him.
-
Good morning/afternoon.
-
T.O.D.
I fell in love with Dionne Warwick from the first time I heard her voice. Probably, "Don't Make Me Over" or "Walk on By" was the first song I knew that Bacharach and David wrote it, but probably "The Theme from VALLEY OF THE DOLLS" was the first time I connected who they were with what songs they had written. It was kind of like Holland, Dozier and Holland with The Supremes; when you heard the artist, you pretty well knew who wrote the song.
-
Favorite songs were probably, "Promises, Promises," "The April Fools," and "Theme from VALLEY OF THE DOLLS" (all Dionne Warwick songs).
-
One more post.

George, do you actually need those magazines, or can you print covers off the net and put them on any old magazine?
I was thinking about just printing covers, but I don't have any magazines myself, so I'd probably have to buy some, anyway. Might as well make them the real things, even though this production doesn't set the show in the present. :-\

Nice. Hope you all have a wonderful visit!

Hopefully, someone can preserve it for posterity!

TOD:
I think I first became aware of Burt Bacharach when I’ll Never Fall in Love Again. A radio DJ said who wrote the song and that it was in Promises, Promises.
-
Found out today that one of my aunts died a few weeks ago while my parents were dealing with a power outage.
-
She had been on dialysis for ages. And a diabetic, too.

In a better bit of news:I bought my tickets for Germany today, Dec. 12-28.
-
DR John I am sorry anout your aunt.

Found out today that one of my aunts died a few weeks ago while my parents were dealing with a power outage.
My condolences, John. :(

I'm so sorry, John.
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep - got up at ten-thirty, but got involved in telephonic calls and e-mails, then getting the kernel of an idea for the nineteenth book - I've had several so far.

Tuesday afternoon greetings! Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. No good (or bad) reason. I’m getting ready for Stampaway, the big papercrafting event in northern Cincinnati that starts tomorrow. I’m taking 2 classes Wednesday, 2 Thursday, 1 Friday, and attending the trade (shopping) show with Rebecca on Saturday.
-
Richard and I also watched GOSFORD PARK 4 times in 4 days. We’d seen it before, of course, but Richard just bought the DVD, so we watched it Friday. Saturday we listened to Robert Altman’s commentary and Sunday we listened to Julian Fellowes’. Then last night we decided to watch again while all the comments were fresh in our minds.
-
Vibes that DR ELMORE's trip was truly successful.
Condolences to DR JOHN G....
DR VIXMOM may be getting help...this is GOOD news.
-
News for DR TCB....the Theme from Valley of the Dolls - and all the songs in the movie - were written by Andre and Dory Previn....
-
I remember seeing Bacharach's name in the credits for THE BLOB when it was on TV.
I think ....SAN JOSE was the first song that I really connected to him....although I mostly knew him as Angie Dickenson's husband.....

I then discovered his name on a lot of 45's I liked to play including "The Story of My Life".....

Thank you for the notes, all.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Continued vibes for TCB's niece. I'm glad she's home. Home is always better, IMO.
-
Continued vibes for Ron's mom.
Does anyone know if she's home now or still in the hospital?
-
Condolences to John G.
-
Vibes to DR Michael on his new play.
-
Glad to see that Vixmom is back. I hope to hear more about the vacation.
-
A question for Vixmom:
don't your coworkers do the same job that you do? Why is everyone so surprised that your job is demanding? WE all know it and we've never even been to your office.
-
Condolences to John G and family.
-
Continued vibes for Ron's mom.
Does anyone know if she's home now or still in the hospital?
Not home and I will be surprised if that happens soon. This morning she was stable.
-

Do you recall when HMOs first became commonplace? We were told that costs would be lower because they'd be so much more efficient! I've yet to see one that is anywhere near efficient.
-
But for your sake, Larry, I truly hope that the accounting error is now history.

Thanks, Jane.

I will second that.

I had a 10:00 hair cut appointment this morning. Keith dropped me off and went to the gym and I would walk home after stopping at the market.
Instead he went to the market and when I texted him at 1:00 walked and met me half way home.
-
Why so long, because I decided I was bored waiting for my hair to go grey and had subtle, very subtle highlights added. My new hairdresser that I love called them baby highlights. She went slowly and was very careful to highlight as little of the grey as possible. Now my brunette hair is a richer, brighter color than before and it all looks very natural.

My apartment building is in the throes of repairs. Yesterday I saw one of the workmen prepping the stairs. I inquired and learned that they would be painting the stairway today. There are three apartments at the top of the stairs and this is our ONLY means of escape. I asked the head handyman, who is also our painter. Yes, they are painting the stairs. The manager is WELL aware that I am allergic to paint. She is also aware that they'd be painting. Don't you think she'd at least inform us? Aside from my health issues, we need to either be in our apartments for the duration or away. Our handyman is a very considerate person and agreed to do the painting while I was at the dentist. Better for me, better for them. After the dentist (just a cleaning) I had lunch at Panera, then stopped at Dollar Tree, largely to give him the time he needed. I've been a landlord twice and I am appalled at the lack of planning and organization and utter disregard for the tenants. The last time a tenant left they had to pour a ton of money into the unit, and even newly renovated it sat for five months. The owner clearly wants to keep her tenants, and yet you wouldn't know it from the way they do things.
-
I love it. Keith says my hair looks better but wishes I had added some blond to it.
-
While at the dentist I learned that he is having major health problems and will be retiring ASAP. He's sold the practice to another holistic dentist who I met today. I really like the retiring dentist--he found a solution for my enamel problem that left my previous dentist--prestigious dentist from UCLA dental school--dumbfounded. I am sorry to hear of his health issues and am very sorry to lose him. There aren't many holistic dentists around, even here in LA, and having gone to both conventional dentists and holistic I feel the holistic ones have a major edge. You just never know when you'll lose someone important to you.

It sounds very nice. Do you know about Cindy Joseph and the pro-age movement? She was a make-up artist in NYC when she decided to stop hiding her gray hair. Someone stopped her on the street and asked if she was interested in modeling. They were looking for older models. She modeled from age 49 to her death last month at 67. She encourages women to go gray. She also has a line of cosmetics, called Boom! (for babyboomers). Personally, I still prefer to be a blonde, but I like the new appreciation of gray hair.

MEGA VIBES THE NEW DENTIST IS EQUALLY GOOD!

As some know, the first time I really knew Bacharach's name was an "inspired by" movies song called Hot Spell, which we wrote with Mack David (Hal's brother). I heard it on the radio and ran out the next day and bought it - Ernie Felice on RCA, still have it - and I looked specifically to see who'd written it (Burt F. Bacharach). Prior to that, I'd certainly heard Magic Moments as it was a big hit, but hadn't known at that point who'd written it. Then next time I took notice was, of course, The Blob, then Liberty Valance, and then everything else.

Not by name but I am familiar with her. My plan was to embrace my grey, however, it is difficult to embrace something you don't actually have. Her hair was a beautiful mixture of white to grey.
While looking online for ideas of what I could do with my hair I found two options. The first was various ways to get rid of the grey all-together. The other, to my surprise, was to add grey highlights. I am glad my hairdresser gave me a third option. I am not sure if anyone will even notice.

A lull! ::)

I've been in a meeting most of the afternoon. We're having a classification and compensation study done, and this week is the beginning of the meetings. I'm only involved in a small part of it, but other things will be happening. Hopefully, it'll all be equitable!
-
And now, I must be going. I need to stop at my sister's for a little bit (I'm borrowing her glue gun), then I'm going home to work on props. They want them by Friday! We'll see about that. ;)
Be back later.
-
Jeanne, Ron's mother is still in the hospital, according to his Facebook posts. She has started physical therapy and seems to be doing a little better.
-
Starting to watch The Moon-Spinners, which I've never seen. Hayley Mills looks good. I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
-
I had no idea the story was set on Crete. Even all these years later, some of the scenes are still recognizable. Gorgeous.
-
Another weird day at work. Lots of stuff done and a new contractor started, but something just felt, well, off kilter.
-
But first we need to get off this page.
-
And no malarkey about it.
-
I did manage to get a few pages of a novel read today. It felt good to do nothing but read while some music played in the background.
-
I listened to a violin concerto from Philip Glass called The Four Seasons. No relation to the Vivaldi.
-
Let's move on.
-
Four!
-
The new Carousel revival is closing. That didn't take long.
-
Hayley Mills sadly is made to act like a hysterical idiot in this movie, one who screams when the bad guy is approaching and then complains about escaping. I realize it's Disney and the '60s, but did they have to make her so damn dumb?
-
I'm off to bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
News for DR TCB....the Theme from Valley of the Dolls - and all the songs in the movie - were written by Andre and Dory Previn....
I guess that goes to show, an old senile guy should never trust his memory, but should look things up on the internet first.
-
Thanks, John G, for the update on Ron's mom.
Continued vibes to her and to Ron.
-
I learned that, as of today, there are 6 planets in retrograde. Plus we had three eclipses, whereas we usually only have two every six months. No wonder everything seems off-kilter.
-
Jane, we'd finished all the prescribed dental work, but I still had some symptoms, which was worrying. Those symptoms have been going away, but I am now having hygiene appointments every three months just to monitor the situation.
-
Good night.
-
Jeanne I hope your symptoms completely go away.
-
Jeanne I hope your symptoms completely go away.
Ditto!!
-
Good evening.
-
Page 4? Really?
-
Slow Monday night?
-
Slow Monday, period.
-
It was over ninety today.
-
It is supposed too be warmer for the next two days.
-
Then cool down in time for the weekend.
-
Slow Monday, period.
So slow that it's already Tuesday!
;)
-
Condolences to DR John!
-
Today, the high in Tumwater was 92°F.

Dentist vibes to DR Jeanne!

Hi, Tom.
-
I am skipping the old actors’ lunch tomorrow.

Dentist vibes to DR Jeanne!

They are going to a Vietnamese joint that is better known for the size of the roaches, than the food.
-
Instead, I am meeting Sharry for lunch.
-
We haven’t decided where we are dining.
-
I don’t care, as long as their A/C works.

A good afternoon to go to the movies.

:o Yikes!
-
Instead, I am meeting Sharry for lunch.
Please tell her HI from me!
-
A good afternoon to go to the movies.
Sounds like a plan.
-
But I will skip the movies and come home instead.
-
Maybe I’ll watch a movie on Netflix or Hulu instead.
-
Perhaps, I will stop at the store for some
APPLESAUCE!
-
Then I can sit in front of the A/C and eat it in my
UNDERPANTS.
-
Time is fleeting.
-
The midnight hour is nigh
-
Well, I have nothing else to say.
-
So, what else is new?
-
Each message takes three times to post.
-
So, what else is new?
Tonight, I bejeweled Elle's cell phone cover for Legally Blonde.
-
Happy Belated Birthday to TD!
-
Now I just need to make the cell phone part to go into the covers, but those can just be cardboard.
-
Good night!
-
Good night, Tom.
