Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the day that wasn't a day, and now it is time for you to post until the cows that weren't the cows to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DECOROUS!
-
First post after BK!
-
Topic of the Day: I'm not really a fan of seafood, so the only kinds I like are essentially the fish-&-chips type, and McDonalds Filet-O-Fish.
-
Well, I was busy last night and only got a couple of posts in. Sorry about that.
-
After I left work last night, I went to my sister's to print a prop (a fake credit card), but it didn't work the way I wanted, so I went to Costco for some printer ink for my computer (it's out...that's why I went to my sister's), but they don't seem to sell ink for my printer anymore. :P I'll be able get my empty printer ink cartridge refilled at Costco, so that's good. I just didn't have time to get it done yesterday.
-
So, I came home, fed my face, then fed my cat, then finished making a couple of props, then started organizing and boxing up some of the props. I still have quite a ways to go!
-
They want the props at the theater by 11 a.m., so I'm sure that I'll be up for a while. I usually don't mind staying up late, but I don't like it when I HAVE to stay up late.
;)
-
And now, back to packing up the props.
-
That trivia question is driving me mad! Any more clues? Did you just give a subtle clue in the notes, bk?
-
Hello, George!
-
That reminds me of Sunday in the Park with George. 😊
-
Did someone guess the answers and I missed them? 🤔
-
Well, it's almost 4AM on the East Coast, so guess I'll try again tomorrow. Good night, all.
-
Hello, George!
Hello, Iris! Sorry I missed you.
-
Good morning, all.
-
My guess from yesterday: Mr. Wonderful
-
Hi, Dear Lurker Iris.
-
TOD
Yesterday was Lobster Mania in SA with the fresh seafoodmonger selling the briny beauties for $7.95 apiece. And I missed it. I loves me some lobster.
-
Back to bed.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Ir's cooler today but we have rain through Monday. I may step out briefly this morning, but i will be working here most of the weekend on How to Succeed . . . and Encores!
-
Good morning!
-
What an incredible story (about the plane), TCB! I just saw it on the news.
-
I'm having trouble (again) with my one of my two DVR's. THis one is in my bedroom and is apparently from 2007. I hate to get rid of it because I have so many recordings I want to keep. One of them is "High School Stories," starring our own TCB! I just watched it again this morning---you were great, TCB!
-
Wow, DR Jane! What a great trip you're going to take!
-
And we have a guess.....I shall have to investigate DR JOHN G's answer....
-
Tonight I am going to be an audience member for Beauty and the Beast...we shall see what happens.....
-
Good morning.
-
TCB, your story even made the local news website here.
-
The emergency alert went off again last night.
-
TCB, your story even made the local news website here.
And this morning's Huffington Post!

-
Good morning, all.
-
I will have to catch up on that suicide by plane story.
-
Closing performance tonight, with a full day and night of rain in the forecast. It looks like they’re going to do what they ended up doing last year with the closing night of Into the Woods — move everyone into the old house on this property and give a very simply staged concert version of the show. The logistics are a little hard to explain when typing on the iPad. I’ll try to capture some photographic evidence.
-
Dry closing night vibes for DR CHAS SMITH....perhaps next year, they should check the almanac.
-
The airplane story was most terrifying!
-
What a story fro TCB last night.
-
I will ask Keith if he heard the military planes take off last night. I was sleeping.
-
DR LAURA a butterfly visited Precious yesterday....not sure what kind it was....but I guess the milkweed seeds I dropped around there grew....

DR Laura, regarding your question to Tom about the alarms :D
-
Show vibes for Chas!!!
-
Wow, DR Jane! What a great trip you're going to take!
Thanks. I am excited.

Ditto and Ditto.
-
Pretty photo Jrand.
-
I must get up and clean today and do Laundry.
-
When the skies lightened up, I knew the worst part of the storm was over for the nonce, and I took a bus to Lincoln Center to shop at the farmer's market. I got some wonderful apple cider donuts and some produce. Onmy way home i stopped at the corner bodega and picked up some deli turkey for the kitties and a few groceries.

TRIVIA SPOILER QUESTION
With all the talk of "Annie" here on HHW lately, I keep thinking the actor who went on to be a director of a "huge hit musical" should be Martin Charnin, but I can't make the parts fit. I've got to put this aside for a while, but any thoughts?
-
I just read the new story regarding DR TCB's excitement last night. We would have been watching our movie last night and not heard the jets. I would like to have seen if they went any faster than usual during take off.
-
I'm up, I'm up - five hours of sleep.
-
Mr. Wonderful is a great guess. Incorrect.
-
Martin Charnin is a great guess - and it's correct.

I would call that a monarch, JRand. Congrats!
-
And it looks like a female to me. So keep an eye out for caterpillars!
-
Martin Charnin is a great guess - and it's correct.
I like the trivia contest better when it's interactive. Still not making the parts fit, though.
These were so much easier ten years ago.
Have you ever thought about putting all of them in a dirt-cheap-to-create Createspace book, just so they'll be there for posterity. You had more than a book worth of them, didn't you?
-
TOD:
Mark and I both love shellfish, but I've never been a huge fan of fish with scales. Mark used to really like it, but he developed an allergy to it a couple years ago, which is unfortunate because it's so healthy.
Anyway, we could both eat mountains of snowcrab legs, in the shell. All-you-can-eat buffets are our favorite, since the stuff is so expensive.

Good morning/afternoon
-
Yes, exciting times last night in Tacoma.
-
One online news place said, "PLANE HIJACKED AND CRASHED INTO SEATTLE."
-
Somehow I knew that Seattle would get all the
credit blame.
-
Page Three
-
But you all have one piece of the trivia puzzle now - that usually will lead to the others. I'll post the answer in the notes tonight. I only found this one because I was listening to an older album of a band playing songs from Broadway shows and literally half the songs were by this composer I'd never heard of - and it had no info on the show they were from so I researched it and found all these interesting things.

Great reporting.
-
Richard Lewine was, I believe, a cousin of Richard Rodgers. When I was restoring Dearest Enemy in 2002, I spoke to him about lost music from the show. He was also a producer, and he used to play duo-pianos with my late friend Al Simon, Gershwin's rehearsal pianist, at the annual New York Library of the Performing Arts bazaars. His and Al's book on musical theatre songs went through several editions.

In searching, I saw in ibdb a credit I'd never noticed on there before,
for "Seventh Heaven"
Directed by John C. Wilson; Choreographed by Peter Gennaro; Uncredited show doctoring by Jerome Robbins
and for "Wonderful Town"
Directed by George Abbott; Dances and Musical Numbers Staged by Donald Saddler; Uncredited show doctoring by Jerome Robbins
for "The Act"
Directed by Martin Scorsese; Choreographed by Ron Lewis; Uncredited consultation: Gower Champion
for "The Conquering Hero"
[this was on the listing out of Bob Fosse's credits https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/bob-fosse-4563 ]

The Shelley Berman part of the clue got by me when I was looking at shows Martin Charnin was in. Looking at wiki, it's clear the question and BK are 100% right, since so many more people think of him as a stand-up comic above all other things, but I remembered him from all his work as an actor.
-
Such an odd tsimmis on the wiki page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelley_Berman
under "Personal Life," that in 2012, he said he thought Bob Newhart had taken his idea of comedy monologues in the phone. But as they say there, it had been done by so many people before Shelley Berman.
In a 2012 podcast interview with Marc Maron, 87-year-old Berman accused comedian Bob Newhart of plagiarizing his improvisational telephone routine style, describing its genesis and saying it was a "very special technique that couldn't really be imitated. It could be stolen. And it was." He continued, "I was coming to work at night and a guy stopped his car, passed me by, and said 'Hey, Shelley! There's a guy [who] stole your act!'"When asked by Maron if it was done maliciously, Berman replied, "Maliciously? He wouldn't do it maliciously. Nobody does that. But he did it to make a living. And he became a star."
Berman later added, "I thought it was a rotten thing to do. I thought the agents who sold him — I thought they were just as guilty as everybody else. But, my God, to go into a town and do my show, and the critics saying that I borrowed some stuff from Newhart..."
When asked in interviews about the telephone issue, Bob Newhart noted that:
Shelley Berman did it before I did it. Mike (Nichols) and Elaine (May) did a version of it. There was a thing called 'Cohen on the Telephone,' which was a very, very early recording by Edison [Records] of a guy on the phone....George Jessel had a radio show...At the end, he would call up his mother and tell her how the show had gone. As a kid growing up, I remember listening to him and he would call his mother up and say, 'Mama, this is Georgie'" – he paused, skillfully – "'from the money.'"
On his website, comedy writer Mark Rothman discussed the history of comic "telephone" monologists:
As far back as the 1920s, George Jessel was doing phone conversations with his mother in vaudeville, with the opening line "Hello Mama? This is Georgie." In the 30's and 40's there was this radio comedienne named Arlene Harris, often referred to as Arlene "Chatterbox" Harris, who did telephone monologues to one of her "friends." The only reason I know about this is that she was featured doing one of them on an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show that featured many old radio entertainers. And she performed one of them. Brilliantly. Then, in the 50's, a great comedienne, Betty Walker, made about a zillion appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, doing essentially the same kind of act as Arlene Harris, talking to her friend Ceil. Only it was intensively Yiddishified. They talked about marriage and children, and how impossible it was to maintain both. Whereas Arlene Harris was white bread, Betty Walker was challah. Betty Walker's catchphrase was "Ceil....Ceil....Ceeeee—ullll!!!! Really, really funny. Also brilliant. All of this pre-dated Shelley Berman. Even Mike Nichols and Elaine May, who were contemporaries of Berman's at Second City, engaged in telephone dialogues, with very similar styled material. And who's more brilliant than them?
-
And there's that Martin Charnin is married to Shelly Burch.
-
WOW and just like that we have an answer!!
Good work DR TCB!!!
-
Shelley Berman forgot one thing in that interview....Bob Newhart was funny....HE was not....he was just angry.....
-
I shall soon be on my way to play an audience member in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

I totally missed that! That's terrible! :(

And Ellen DeGeneres had a hit with her Phone Call to God.
-
I'm now at the theater. I got here a little after 11 a.m., and got everything moved from my car into the theater. The stage manager and I went through everything and hopefully it's everything they need. Right now, they're just rehearsing individual group numbers and getting used to the theater. I don't think that they're going to have a full run today.
-
Here's a picture of the women (Elle is kneeling at the front of the stage) and the set with lights:

The guy on the far left is the choreographer.

Here's a shot of the set with more light:

Nice photos.
-
Thanks, Jane!
-
And we're done for today! I'm off to my parents' for some food and visiting with some out of town guests.
Until later!
-
Have fun.
-
It's raining in Lacey!
-
Lovely. We had sprinkles early, barely ;D
-
It is only 75 degrees right now.
-
I was wrong, it is raining here :)

Good job, TCB! Shelly Berman was absolutely known as a stand-up (or sit down) comedian - that was his fame. His acting stuff was fine, but his fame was as a comic. His records were huge. I had them all and I thought he was very funny on them and I did a perfect imitation of him back then. I used to see him at Jerry's all the time, and then at the Ray Courts show - I bought the CD of his albums and he signed it to me - I found it the other day. I know he was known as cantankerous and to be negative and irritable.
-
Okay, I'm listening to the weirdest album EVER - Dorothy Ashby, Afro-Harping - jazz/soul harp with orchestra and charts by Richard Evans. And yet, oddly enjoyable.
-
Had a fun three-hour visit with Sami, her mom, and, for a time, her mom's mom and sister.
-
Impressive, TCB!
I spent hours trying to figure out the answer to the trivia question.
Wasn't even close. 🙄
-
TOD:
My favorites are salmon grilled on a cedar plank, and our own local Maryland crab cakes.
-
Oh, John G, you reminded me.
Lobster.
Yum.
-
Incredible news story about that hijacked plane by a former employee of the airline.
He didn't even have a pilot's license!
Wonder how long it will take before the movie is made.
-
Jane, have a wonderful time on your trip...it sounds like it will be an amazing experience.
Look forward to photos!
-
What beautiful flowers, DR George.
I love hydrangeas.
-
Thunderstorms on the East Coast.
Have a feeling that DR Chas moved tonight's performance indoors.
-
We shall soon know.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
-
One more post regarding today's topic.
What is it, fish?
-
Couldn't resist.
😜

Keith was going to get the car washed after the gym today. It was raining too hard. We didn't get rain until later.

Thanks, Iris! Those are at my parents' house, so the thanks are actually from my mom!
-
I'm home and am very tired.
-
I'm now watching Disney's Freaky Friday.
-
Good evening.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
In Freaky Friday, the "mom" was driving a car that very obviously had British Columbia license plates.
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!

Finally!!!

I have beeen trying for over an hour to post.

I typed several clever posts, but I couldn’t get any of them to show up.
