Well, you've read the notes, the notes wanted to eat the head of a chicken, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're concerned because the chickens have had a bad day and want to eat the head of a cow.
-
And the word of the day is: ANODYNE!
-
That's what I'M talkin' about. Anodyne, baby, anodyne.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Vixmom!! :D
-
To recap from yesterday, TCB and I wrote:
The smoke was so thick today, that it hurt to be outside.
It was visually noticeable to me, but I didn't feel like it affected my breathing.
Maybe I'm floating in De Nile, but it really just seemed warm. I didn't have a problem breathing, at all. And I did go outside several times yesterday.
-
Last night, the final dress rehearsal for Legally Blonde went really well. They started later than they wanted, so they didn't get through the whole show. Tonight, they'll start from where they left off, then go through the whole show.
-
I'm ALMOST officially done with props. I just need to bring a couple of paper bags, then that will be it! When [SPOILERS] Elle buys Emmett a new suit and he wears the new suit out of the store, he needs to take his old clothes with him, so that's what the bags are for. :)
-
Tonight is opening night!! ;D
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes in the notes BK
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Vixmom!! :D
Thank you George
-
I am afraid this will not be a very happy birthday
-
I hate my job and moreover I now hate my boss as well
-
Vixdad's car must go to the shop this morning so I am waiting to bring him there otherwise I would already be on my way into the office
-
We are waiting for a call from his sister
-
The news as of last night was not good
-
Good morning, all!
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to our DR Vixmom !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
It is expected that she will be leaving us shortly, she is bring kept "comfortable" but as per her own instructions , no "heroic" measures are to be used and she also signed a DNR
-
So this birthday looks to beat the long held record of worst birthday by previous champion BD 20
-
Get out of there, DR vixmom ASAP! That work relationship has gone to hell. He may need you, but you do not need him. Take a couple of "sick days" and call around and do some networking for another job that will not be such hell.
-
On that date Elvis died , my boyfriend of 2 years left for college in Missouri from when he never returned, and my then boss came in and announced the store I was working in was closing effective immediately and we spent most of the day packing boxes and moving merchandise into a truck until the sheriff came and evicted us for nonpayment of rent

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes of comfort to the Family Vix! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
things I learned today:
Each year on August 16th, you will find people at amusement parks and theme parks across the country participating in National Roller Coaster Day. J.G. Taylor received one of the earliest patents for an inclined railway in 1872. In 1878, Richard Knudsen received a patent for an inclined-plane railway. For years, history has believed the first roller coaster in America opened at Coney Island on June 16, 1884. Thanks to the digital age and many archived news papers being digitized, and article was discovered reporting the anticipated excitement of J.G. Taylor’s elevated railway in 1872 at Rocky Point, Rhode Island. According to the Providence Evening Press from June 18, 1872, the reporter describes a ride of 400 feet where nine passengers are given a shove and gravity does the rest. The oldest roller coasters are believed to have originated from the so-called “Russian Mountains.” Built in the 17th century, these were specially constructed hills of ice that were located near Saint Petersburg, Russia. The slides were made to a height of 70 to 80 feet consisting of a 50-degree drop and were reinforced by wooden supports. A roller coaster consists of one or multiple cars on a track, similar to a specialized railroad system that rises in designed patterns, sometimes with one or more vertical loops.
National Rum Day is observed annually on August 16. Rum is a distilled clear alcoholic beverage which is a byproduct of molasses production or made directly from sugar cane juice. After the fermentation and distillation process, most rum is aged in wooden oak barrels. Followed by the vodka and all the whiskeys combined, rum is the third most popular spirit in the United States. It stirs up images of sandy beaches and brightly colored umbrellas in fruity drinks. And it should. It is a sweet spirit and originated in sunny Papua New Guinea. It made its way to the Caribbean by way of the West Indies.
What would be better than a day filled with laughter? National Tell a Joke Day is observed annually on August 16th, and that’s no joke! This day will be filled with smiles and much laughter from morning till night as everyone shares their favorite jokes. The more jokes you tell, the more fun you will have and so will those around you. A joke is described as something that is spoken, written or done with humorous intention. They can come in many forms. On National Tell a Joke Day, try a one-liner or a knock-knock joke if you aren’t comfortable with the whole comedic act that can be involved in the short story versions. Some simply rely on gestures to express humor. With humor, timing and delivery can be an essential element. Without it, the joke will fall flat. Be sure to know the audience. Clown jokes may not go over well at a phobia convention. In moderation, laughter is healthy, uses the abdominal muscles and releases endorphins (natural “feel good” chemicals) into the brain.
National Airborne Day is observed each year on August 16. Designated by the United States Congress, National Airborne Day honors the nation’s airborne divisions of the Armed Forces. National Airborne Day was created in 2001 by 43rd United States President, George W. Bush. August 16, 1940, marks the date of the first official Army parachute jump at Ft. Benning, Georgia. The successful jump validated the innovative concept of inserting United States ground combat forces behind a battle line by parachute. These sky soldiers represent some of the most prestigious and effectively trained forces in the United States Army.
In 1829, The original Siamese twins, Eng and Chang, arrived in Boston.
In 1948, Baseball legend Babe Ruth died in New York City at age 53.
In 1968, The Jackson Five made their formal debut with Diana Ross and The Supremes at the Great Western Forum, California.
In 1969, Hippie leader Abbie Hoffman was knocked offstage by Pete Townshend while attempting to make a political statement during The Who's set at Woodstock. Later, Townshend said he didn't know it was Hoffman at the time.
In 1970, This week's UK Top 5 singles: No.5, Free, 'All Right Now', No.4, Shirley Bassey, 'Something', No.3, Hotlegs, 'Neanderthal Man', No.2, The Kinks, 'Lola' and No.1, Elvis Presley, 'The Wonder Of You', (his 16th UK No.1).
In 1977, Elvis Presley died at Graceland, his Memphis,Tenn., home, from heart failure at age 42.
In 1979, The biggest single of the summer in the US, The Knack's 'My Sharona' was awarded a Gold record for selling one million copies.
In 1986, Madonna started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Papa Don't Preach.'
In 1997, Will Smith started a four-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Men In Black' taken from the film of the same name.
Happy Birthday to Madonna (60), Steve Carell (56), Cameron Monaghan (25), Evanna Lynch (27), James Cameron (64), Kathie Lee Gifford (65), and Julie Newmar (84).
Happier Birthday and Changing Things VIBES for DR VIXMOM.
Patsy Cline
Brenda Lee
I may actually cook something today.....since I don't have to go anywhere tonight......
-
Much love and birthday wishes to vixmom!
-
BK - thinking still of that beautiful lyric yesterday.
It's great that Doug can read you well enough to know that in some cases, bugging you can lead to something terrific; it's hard to tell when bugging a collaborator can cause wonderful work vs. when it can just make someone feel bugged. Sounds like a special working relationship.
Aretha Franklin has died.
Queen of Soul....the others are just pretenders to the throne, though some may try to claim it now..... :(
TOD:
I'm too young to remember Herb Alpert, but I do remember Chuck Mangione who had his hit, "Feels So Good" in 1977. It's funny, since the song has no lyrics, I never knew the title until I had to look it up to type this post this morning. I liked the song, but not enough to buy it. I think there's been a lot more country/pop cross-over artists than jazz/pop artists. And in fact, I've been told that's all country music is now - it's all country/pop cross-over.
-
I think this qualifies as crossover, Santana with Rob Thomas and "Smooth"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Whgn_iE5uc
It was the #1 song that brought music from the 1990s to the 2000s, the way IIRC Rupert Holmes had brought the 1970s to the 1980s. It felt significant while it was going on at the time - though for many just a statistic now.
-
Crappy Happy Birthday, Vixmom.
Hugs to your family. I pray that your MIL has a peaceful passing.
-
It is cloudy and cool today, so I am doing yardwork. I dug a lot of bermuda grass.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! Rainy day here in SW Ohio. I do have to go out later to pick up the salad I'm taking to my book group's potluck dinner/movie night. We read Little Women and will be watching the Winona Ryder version. Otherwise, I'm packing for our weekend trip to the Detroit 'burbs.
Best wishes to DR Vixmom for the happiest birthday possible, under the circumstances...
Topic of the Day:
The Manhattan Transfer have won Grammys in both the pop and jazz categories. They were the first (and I think still the only) group to win in both categories in the same year!
Hello!
-
Vibes for Thatch
-
Hope you're able to enjoy your birthday, DR vixmom.
-
Well, I'm off to the theater for Legally Blonde's official opening night! We only have six performances over this one weekend, so I (and everyone else involved) really hope that it goes well. It's a good show and the performers are all really good, too. I'm not just going to watch, either. I'll be counting the number of people who come to see the show, so I actually have a job!
Be back later (probably much later)!
-
Fox should not be allowed to be called "News" - the word "News" should not appear in conjunction with the word Fox.
-
I has spoken.
-
I have been in Perks land for the entire afternoon, save for a visit to Corky's for a sandwich.
-
No miracles today, but I've laid low and avoided various and sundried irritants. Tomorrow I will probably not be able to do that, but perhaps tomorrow we'll get a miracle or three.
-
Also had an interesting telephonic conversation that could, at some point in life, lead to something interesting.
-
Page four? Really?
Strange that so many people are telling Aretha Franklin stories that they think are endearing, but seem so odd, like when she held up a show with so many performers and hundreds of people waiting until cash was brought right away before she'd go out.
-
No miracles today, but I've laid low and avoided various and sundried irritants.
Mum is still with us
The boss bought lunch for the office in honor of my Birthday
-
I had chicken piccata with Angel hair
-
It was very good
-
And my coworkers decorated my desk
-
A beautiful flower arrangement was delivered with a card from a secret admirer
-
The Vixter called
-
My brothers sent texts
-
Then my coworkers gave me a beautiful chocolate mousse cake
-
Hugs, Vixmom. That's about the best it could be this year. I'm glad everyone remembered you.
-
I made chicken and something in my new Instant Pot. I like it.
-
Not as good as Vixmom's chicken piccata.
-
Wow, you don't get that at 90% of places where you love going to work.
Fascinating that he (and they) know how to have the office really do up special occasions but has trouble on day two day.
-
That was pretty much my day. Yardwork and chicken and something.
-
And at the end of the day there was another delivery this time a box of chocolate covered strawberries from edible arrangements sent by one of our Closers
-
then I worked until 8 pm to get some packages out that need to be out
-
Sounds like the makings of a song...
Chocolate mousse and angel hair
Nice decorations everywhere
The many things that show they care
I've looked at work that way.
But sometimes - AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I've looked at work from both sides now...
-
Poor vixdad had to walk a couple of miles home from the train station because I wasn't able to pick him up
Yardwork and Chicken and Something shall be the title of my next symphonic poeme.
But I’m happy for the good things that graced vixmom’s day.
I'm glad Vixdad's Mum is still with you, Vixmom, and that there were nice things about your natal day.
-
I had a very wonderful and interesting Restaurant Week lunch today at Nonna, the restaurant run by Luca Della Casa, whom you may or may not remember from Food Network Star.
The first course was a lovely salad of local field greens, followed by pickled chicken-fried steak (yes, you read that right) and then tiramisu.
The steak was made, then priced and served with pickles in a pungent garlic aioli with a bright arugula salad with it. Really good.
My friend had a fried cheese salad, which only had a little fried cheese on it, but plenty of heirloom tomatoes that were of such a perfect flavor they didn't need salt. (And I salt everything.)
-
Yes when I came home he was just coming out of the shower
It was just lovely.
-
I'm now relaxing over the brutal ending of Journey's End.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Six!
-
Very happy that the vixmom birthday day sounds like it was much better than expected.
-
I am perked out, baby.
-
But I do think some of the perks will be of interest to some of you here. We're missing one perk level, but I've saved a few things to add as we go along. Indiegogo recommends between five and seven perks to start, but that seems very low - we have twenty-one which gives everyone a lot to choose from, which I think is important in those very important first days of a campaign.
-
Listening to music. Ate some Cheetos - kind of nauseating, actually. Since I only had a sandwich earlier, I may get a little something fun later. Then again I may not.
That meal looks lovely John, but the idea of picketed chicken is not appealing and I cannot abide raw tomatoes
Which is odd because I love them cooked
You ain't alone. My mom and my friend Cecil also loathe raw tomatoes.
Vixmom, Monday morning.
Listening to a humungous box set of tracks produced by George Martin. I got this when it came out, but boy is it pricey now. There are some really fun tracks on the first CD, his really early stuff, long before the Beatles. I didn't know he'd produced all of Matt Monro's early hits.
George, not everyone suffers from breathing problems. Be grateful that you don’’t. I didn’t have much problem until I got older. Most of the customers at The Ram on Wednesday passed on sitting on the deck, in spite of the warm temperatures.
Ditto!
-
I hope that opening night of LEGALLY BLONDE went well this evening.
-
The smoke has pretty well lifted in Seattle and Tacoma.
-
But they are warning that it may return next week.
-
My friends from Henderson, Nevada are in town this week, so we are having lunch together at The Lobster Shop.
-
They have been longing for some very fresh seafood.
-
It has been a few years since I last saw them.
-
It will be a nice start to the weekend.
-
Page six? Really?
-
Notes are written and ready to post.
-
Can't we get to 200 postings?
-
Not with just me posting, no we cannot.
-
My date from my senior prom, who I have been in touch with off and on over the years, sent me an email this evening that she is now engaged.
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
I think this will be husband number three (or maybe four).
-
The surprising thing is that she is engaged with a guy we went to high school with together.
-
I and another volunteer (a friend whom I haven seen in several years) counted the number of people who came in. Kyle, the managing director of the theater company, wants to compare the door count that we came up with (281) against the number that the ticket sellers tells them that came through the door. ::)
-
I guess there have been discrepancies in the past and not in favor of the theater group renting the space.
-
The surprising thing is that she is engaged with a guy we went to high school with together.
Congrats to them both!
Mum is still with us
I hope that that's good news.
Glad the opening went well and well went the opening.
Twisted Nerve has finished playing and now it's Vertigo, the soundtrack recording. I don't know what's with the Varese Sarabande version of the actual soundtrack but it's terrible compared to the original Mercury/Philips CD release, which has no problems at all save for no real low end.
I also love the James Conlon complete recording, but none of the re-recordings, whether complete or otherwise, gets the tempos right, especially on the main title.
What, I have to do this all by myself, like Eric Carmen?
-
I hope that opening night of LEGALLY BLONDE went well this evening.
Thanks, Tom! It did!
-
What ever happened to Eric Carmen - he was so popular for a short time and then nothing.
-
This ought to do it.
Gratuitous Post #201!!
Glad the opening went well and well went the opening.
Thanks, BK!
