I do remember the Gary Hart case somewhat.

He certainly would have gotten the Democratic nomination had it not been for the scandal.

I thought the Gary Hart debacle was kind of the beginning of political candidates as tabloid celebrities in a big way.....his taunt to the press really set them off - and I am happy they obliged him in the way they did.

I don't care to see a movie about it - the real thing was enough.....

I like a good story.

There are so few of them in the movies these days, which is probably why I don't go any more.

TOD:

Jackman: I think his hosting gigs on the Tonys let him have more fun than anything else I've seen him in.
Curly in Oklahoma!

Hart: In Tanner '88, Robert Altman's amazing TV series about a fake presidential candidate, Hart appeared in both news clips and playing himself as part of the series. When the scandal hits, the story is woven seamlessly into the script. I remember watching that during its original airing and wondering at the fine line where reality stops and fiction begins. It was great TV.

I met my friends yesterday and took them to Columbia University so they could see some of the locations used in "The Mirror Has Two Faces."  Thanks to my expert subway-navigation skills we ended up quite a distance from the University.  We were going to take the number 1 train but a number 3 express train showed up.  I naively assumed that they took the same route so I suggested we hop on it.  Wrong!    We ended up taking two buses to Columbia.  They were good sports and said they can now say they took a New York City bus.

Juliet and her daughter had plans to go to the Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center.  I walked over with them.  I said I guess this is where we say good-bye.  Then they learned that once you're inside the viewing area you're not allowed to leave.  They changed their minds.

Me, too, DR DRUXY....  And I remember that Tanner series DR JOHN G....it was good.

I guess my problem with a movie on Hart is that it would be TRUE-ISH.....and skewed in one direction or another....I might like a documentary more....not that I would even care to watch that.....for the same reason.

Thursday afternoon greetings!  Rebecca and I had plans to meet for coffee at 9:30 this morning and, of course, at the time I needed to leave we were experiencing the dreaded "wintry mix" of sleet and freezing rain.  We texted back and forth and delayed a bit, meeting at 11am instead and I've recently returned.  We hadn't gotten together since sometime last month, so there was a lot of catching up to do.

Well, I'm leaving work because our building is closed!  Evidently, there's some plumbing/sewer issue just our building and they won't get it done within the hour, so they're closing us down.  We're supposed to get a text tomorrow morning specifying if we can work tomorrow.  Yikes!  Hopefully, it all gets fixed quickly (but not too quickly ;) ).

Be back later (but not too much later, I'm sure).

After  many years of telling unbelieving people about a production of West Side Story that played Frank Sennes' Moulin Rouge that I saw, and which featured original stars Chita Rivera and Larry Kert, I now finally have a program from it along with the opening night menu choices.  So, non-believers, you can now kiss my ASS :)  I'll scan it later and put it in tomorrow's notes.  What's really fascinating is how correct I was about WHEN I would have had to have seen it.  The film opened in December of 1961.  This opened in June of 1962 to cash in on the success of the film, and I saw it right out of junior high school at the age of fourteen.  Other members of the film cast were also in it, including Tucker Smith, Gus Trikonis, and David Winters.  It was a very cheap production - I remember the balcony swaying precariously.  Also a band of about twelve, as I recall.  But the dancing was superb - recreated by Chita's then-husband and the film's Action, Tony Mordente.

It was fairly busy, with boats and walkers. It was a place called Ostra, which specializes in seafood. It was a nice evening. I had a half-dozen oysters on the half shell as well as some snapper tacos with, in honor of BK, a kale salad.

Another is a souvenir program from a tour of The Odd Couple with Lyle Talbot and Harvey Stone.

The whole company autographed the program for Gene, including a young actress named Kathryn Blythe, who played one of the Pigeon sisters. Turns out she became Kay Stamer, the woman who was the head of the Greene County Council on the Arts. I was the president of the board for a few years. It's funny. I didn't recognize her photo at first, but I will never forget her handwriting.

I knew most of what was discussed, but there were a few changes...nothing earth-shatteringly profound, though.

Here's a pro photographer's capturing of the scene.

Very nice, John (even if you didn't take the picture). ;)

We discovered a Redbox at Walgreens conveniently located next door to the gym.  Tonight we are watching SEARCHING.

I really liked it.

I'm starting to watch a play called Deceit by on Bruce Kimmel. Interesting premise.

I have that DVD.  I really like it, too.

Cheryl and Janis (the two women of The Manhattan Transfer) are singing "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" (one of the Transfer's signature songs) with two of the men from Take 6.  Very nice.

I listened to the CD at work before the building closed.

You were lucky it arrived in time.

While I was eating, I was reading Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. J.K. Rowling) on my new (to me) Kindle.  I'm about 70% of the way through.

I have Career of Evil checked out from the library to read, if I get to it.  I also have 4 other books to read.

After that, I listened to music and did other stuff on the computer, including finishing the commentary, so that's done now.

We're still up in the air about CDs being ready tomorrow and it's infuriating because the glass master was supposed to arrive today and had it there would have been no problem.  But because of "weather" (it rained a little - ooh) it's not getting there until morning.  Then they will do their best to get it on the press immediately and have it ready in the afternoon.  So, the helper is standing by and he'll be ready to go out there and hopefully they'll have it.

What is SEARCHING?

It's a movie starring John Cho about when his daughter goes missing.  The conceit of the movie is that everything you see is on electronic devices.  All of the dialogue between characters are through their phones or on computers.  I think it was very well done.

I know! ;) I don't know if he's been there since the beginning (there have been a few changes), but he's at least been part of the band for quite a while.
