Well, you've read the notes, the notes got the best of me, and now it is time for you to post until the proofing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROLIFERATE!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to (former) DR Kate!
-
Time for me to go to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am quite frustrated over losing a day of tax prep yesterday. It all began around 10:30 with the smell of cat pee.
-
I keep things pertaining to the litter box quite clean and odorless, so that stink sent me into a cleaning mode. I cleaned the area around the liter box, washed down the litter mat, and sprayed everything with an enzyme odor0-eating cleaner for cats. I had to keep the cats out of the bathroom while that dried, so I locked them out and decided to clean the TV screen, which really needed it, and moved on to the computer.
-
I unplugged the keyboard, cleaned the computer screen, and sprayed Windex onto the keyboard and briskly wiped it with a paper towel. I plugged the keyboard back into the computer and got a black screen. Well, it wasn't really black, the brightness had dimmed until everything was barely legible. I found the brightness button at the top of the keyboard, and pressed it, the screen lit up, but as soon as I touched a key the screen went dark again. I went into Systems Preferences and tinkered with that for a bit until it was no longer dimming.
-
Then, since I never play with the keys at the top of the keyboard, I touched one that corresponds with the F4 key on some keyboards (mine had only symbols) and all the icons on my desktop grouped into clumps: all the .jpgs in one, documents in another, and I knew something was out of my limited control. I called my Mac expert Joshie, who suggested I go to Findet, go to "View" and unstack everything. I did, things seemed to revert, and I went thanked him.
-
Only . . . the icons were now stuck to the desktop and could not be moved around any longer, I called Joshie back, and got a message that he was away from his desk. I called AppleCare. I spoke to a nice young man named Justin, who - after suggested several things that failed - believed the solution to my problem was a needed upgrade to Mojave 10.14.3. My computer insisted that 10.14.2 was the latest upgrade, which I had, but Justin guided me through getting the new upgrade, and that wasted two hours of my life.
-
Well, I may have Apple's latest upgrade, but my computer was still screwed up, so around 2:30 I called AppleCare again and got a nice young man named Richie. I gave him my case number, and he made a lot of suggestions that didn't work. I had discovered, playing around with the desktop, that I could not throw anything into the trash. When I tried, I had to enter my password, and the computer told me I wasn't authorized to do anything! Richie was quite thorough, and we learned that part of my problem working with him was that my keyboard was no longer working, so I retrieved another from my closet. I had purchased one last year when I thought the other keyboard was dying, but I hated the new one and just put it away. We went through every possible thing he could think of to help me, and he finally said that I needed to talk to a senior officer. Lyle took over the case around 4:00.
-
Lyle went through everything that Richie had been through. Since our keyboards were linked, he could see the issues on my desktop, and in a passing comment, I mentioned the problem with putting things into the trash. He knew exactly what the problem was, and I still do not. In terms I can best understand, I needed to reset the entire computer and my personal ownership of it, something Lyle hadn't done before, and we had to do it twice since the first attempt was bungled by attempting to accomplish two processes at the same time. Before we redid this, all the icons on the desktop unfroze, but only to a limited degree. The second attempt finished up just around 8:00, and it worked. Everything is back in place, and all is well this morning.
-
This will be a looooong tax day.

I am pleased to announce the publication of DICK POWELL, the 20th play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS Collection.
Dick Powell made a career of reinventing himself.
Born in Arkansas, the young tenor played horn, banjo and sang with various dance bands and orchestras in Pittsburgh and elsewhere before he was brought to Hollywood where he sang opposite Ruby Keeler and others in such classic Busby Berkeley musicals as 42ND STREET, FOOTLIGHT PARADE, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1935 and the Al Jolson film, WONDER BAR.
In the mid-1940s, Powell played Philip Marlowe in MURDER, MY SWEET, which began his period of doing “tough guy” roles in films like CORNERED, JOHNNY O’CLOCK and CRY DANGER.
His astute mind for business led him to invest in real estate and, in the early 1950s, he moved his show business interests into producing and directing. Along with David Niven and Charles Boyer, he formed Four Star Productions, one of the most prolific production companies in television.
Powell was married three times. His second wife was actress Joan Blondell and his third, actress June Allyson, twelve years his junior.
Michael B. Druxman’s DICK POWELL is a one-person play that looks in on the actor at two different periods in his life: during the mid-1940s when he is struggling to reinvent his career from singer to dramatic actor, and the mid-1950s, as he deals with billionaire Howard Hughes, producer of director Powell’s ill-fated (and deadly) John Wayne-epic film, THE CONQUEROR.
DICK POWELL is available in both paperback and Kindle editions via Amazon and other booksellers. Performance rights are available.

Good morning, all.
-
Well, our state is a sea of black ice. Not the main roads, but some neighborhood ones and many driveways and parking lots. The next few days will be treacherous enough in many states because of the temperatures. Fun, fun, fun. Stay warm, everyone.
-
OMG, DR Elmore, what a horrible day. Vibes it is all behind you.
-
How great to see photographic evidence of vixmom and vixdad at the Space Center, especially the one at the Vehicle Assembly Building. I have been in awe of that thing since I was there on a trip with my high school chorus in ‘66/‘67. If you haven’t literally been there, you have no idea of the mindboggling size of that amazing structure. Since then I’ve only seen it from a distance, and I need to get back to all of that someday because I love the whole “Space Coast” thing.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congratulations on the Dick Powell play, DR Druxy.
-
I slept well, but my body is greedy and wants more.
-
DR DRUXY the play sounds very interesting!
-
Apple Vibes for DR ELMORE - with tax vibes thrown in.
-
Yes Indiana is closed.....US Mail delivery has been suspended.....my thermometer shows -10 degrees....that is without the wind chill factor....so it is an enforced home day for us.
-
Yep. We get ours tonight and over the next two days.
-
Good morning!
-
Congratulations on the Dick Powell play, DR Druxy.
I second that.
-
I slept well, but my body is greedy and wants more.
Same way I feel.
-
DR George, TCB was referrencing a past cruise through a hurricane. Passengers and the crew are fine on his current trip.
-
DR elmore I am glad you had a spare keyboard.
-
Since my keyboard is wireless I only clean it when my computer is off. I am curious, does anyone else spray their keyboard with a cleaner? The only spray I ever use is a cold air can which basically blows dirt/food out of it.

Just finished listening to the Encores Pipe Dream. The score still doesn't grab me. It feels "inauthentic" in a way that Oklahoma! doesn't and didn't when I was growing up in Oklahoma.

I think the Pipe Dream score is about 50-75% wonderful, but the tone of the Steinbeck books is wrong. Supposedly Steinbeck told R&H they had turned his whores into army nurses. I much prefer the Encores! recording to the original cast, except for Leslie Uggams, who was consistently flat in performance. Give meHelen Traubel. On the other hand, I think Oklahoma! is 100% wonderful.
-
Greetings from Honduras! I woke up really dizzy, going back to bed for a time.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! Our current temperature is -4, with a wind chill of -24. Richard and I have tickets to see Shen Yun tonight at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Fortunately, the parking garage is right across the street.

Hope you feel better soon, DR TCB!

Agreed. But i like it better than the original
-
Saw a bootleg of the Encores! production and had a reverse reaction, Elmore. Didn’t like Will Chase but loved Uggams.
-
I guess Nick Nolte will always be Doc to me after the movie. Chase just seemed too boyish. Not looking forward to him in Kiss Me, Kate, either.

Oh no. I hope you feel better and were able to get off the ship, if that was your plan to begin with.

I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.

Feel better vibes for vacationing DR TCB.

A couple of years ago we were able to take a tour that allowed us to go inside that building. It was amazing and aweinspiring
-
That's no longer possible as they are currently building a ship to Mars in there
-
At least there is a good reason.
-
The photos of you are wonderful.
-
I had expected this trip to be filled with news of the wedding plans. I am glad to see you are having a very fun time.
-

I think I'd heard this. Or had at least heard that inside visits were off for a while. I thought it was a security issue, and maybe it was at first. Well, we shall hope it's not forever. I mean, they were certainly building things when I was there. :D Though it might have been that the quadrant we were able to step inside of, and look up -- and up -- and up -- didn't have a ship in it. Not sure.
-
Good Afternoon everyone
-
Hi DR Michael. How are you feeling?
-
A snow squall just passed through, and I can only say, "Wow."
-
Liam didn't like it outside at all.
-
BK, do you have Dropbox? I have Marguerite.
-

Picky, picky, picky
:)
-
John, I do, but you have to send the request to kritzerland at gmail dot com - that's how I can retrieve it.
-
Had some chicken tenders for the meal o' the day, picked up some packages, had the CD pick-up, proofed about fifty pages, and here I be, listening to music. I think I found a way to consolidate two middle chapters so that I can break a sequence for a new chapter where it desperately feels needed.

Interesting clip from 1976, Donny and Marie and a post-divorce Sonny and Cher sing "You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju8er_jnz5c
Musically, it sounds well-rehearsed, at least to these ears. But it looks like they just winged it for the jokes. Back then, I'm sure they never imagined these things would get watched away from the show.
-
There's something sweet about Donny and Cher bouncing off each other. My favorite joke in that clip is when Cher says "Song Cue!" and Donny says "You're welcome."
-
John, I do, but you have to send the request to kritzerland at gmail dot com - that's how I can retrieve it.
I will try to do that later tonight.
-
Had a wonderful lunch with a baked oyster, salad and eggplant parmigiana.
-
Now I'm into the first act of the complete recording of Allegro. A flop perhaps, but the most influential flop ever written. More later about my impressions. Cranking the furnace tonight.
-
Dinner tonight promises to be just as good, thanks to San Antonio Restaurant Weeks.
-
Nice clip.
My question for ASK BK DAY:
I purchased your Donny/Marie as a perk a few years ago, and some of the scenes said "Bank" instead of giving a time and place for taping....were these scenes that had already been taped and would be inserted into the show?
-
It's up to 3 degrees now.....another night of opening the cabinet doors under the sinks to help keep the pipes from freezing.
-
And of course keep a small drip of water running from the faucet.
-
I hope DR TCB is having a good time on his cruise.
-
Lightning and Penguins are playing in hockey tonight.
-
I had to close the window again. The drop in temperature in the last two hours is amazing.,
-
Good evening.
-
Good evening.
-
Had a wonderful lunch with a baked oyster, salad and eggplant parmigiana.
A baked oyster? How big was the damn thing?
-
Vixmom, I am glad to see that the weather has improved in Florida.
-
I hope it is nice in Tampa when we return on Sunday.
-
We are going home Sunday evening, but we are taking a city tour, and I hate to have it rain on us.
-
No, George, no one sick on this cruise. The weather is calm, and everyone seems to be having a good time.
-
Had a wonderful lunch with a baked oyster, salad and eggplant parmigiana.
A baked oyster? How big was the damn thing?
Normal size. It was like an oyster Rockefeller.
-
Mahogany Bay was a cute little tourist trap. In order to enter the area from the ship, and to return to it later, you had to go through the large Duty Free Store. Nothing seemed like a very good price, especially things like chocolate and rum cakes.
-
Once past the Duty Free store, you came upon a large group of little shops. Some sold diamonds or pearls or emeralds; but other than that, it was all the exact same tourist stuff. You could get a passport stamp for Honduras, but they requested a donation in return for it.
-
It was around 78 degrees, so neither one of us felt like taking a taxi into the actual town. We also skipped the beach, since my scooter does not do well in sand. They had a fun little beach lift (like a ski lift) that took you from the stores, over the trees, and then dropped you off on the beach.
-
I bought a trinket or two, and then we returned to the ship. After lunch, we watched SKYSCRAPER on the TV. Yesterrday it was the movie in the theater, but we missed it. Also, last night, I watched most of CRAZY RICH ASIANS on TV. Now I am off to wander the ship, looking for fun, fun, fun!
-
I shall return later.
-
Fun, fun, fun vibes for TCB!
-
In my apartment complex in Schaumburg, IL, everyone in corner units had to do the open-cabinet dripping-faucet thing when it dropped to a certain temperature.
I was surprised when I found I have to drip a faucet right here. My laundry room is on the second floor with the bedrooms and it backs onto an attic space with minimal insulation. Those are the only pipes in the house that aren’t well “inside” the jernt, and it’s lucky I had them install a sink at the last minute or there would be nothing to drip.
-
Liam didn't like it outside at all.
I would think not.
-
It's up to 3 degrees now.....another night of opening the cabinet doors under the sinks to help keep the pipes from freezing.
Are you also letting water drip from the faucets?
-
And of course keep a small drip of water running from the faucet.
LOL, yes you are.
-
We are going home Sunday evening, but we are taking a city tour, and I hate to have it rain on us.
Rain kind of makes it difficult to see much.

They usually are not the best prices. Often you see things you can't get elsewhere.

Yes, as in banked - already shot. They did this regularly.
-
Dozed off for a bit. Now watching a movie and then will proof some more.

We were very glad we watched CRAZY RICH ASIANS before going to Singapore.

I never thought about not having a sink to drip. We never have had pipes freeze but never burst. The first time I called a plumber. The next time I thawed the pipes with a blow dryer. Then I turned both taps on instead of just one and insulated the pipes underneath the sink which were in the garage.

We just watched THE WIFE with Glenn Close.
Excellent movie.
Hopefully, Glenn will finally get her Oscar.

One of the all-time favorite Tony show bits - at 5:50, Charles Nelson Reilly sings "Spare That Building" from SKYSCRAPER

I usually blow through the keys with air from a can like you do, Jane, but I pop off one of the lower corner keys so that all the debris can escape. If I was going to actually clean the keys, I'd spray a cloth, then wipe the keyboard with that. I don't think I'd spray any liquid, however misty, directly onto it. :-\

I don't think many people liked the Klingons. I enjoyed the show more than I thought I would, and enjoyed it more as the season went on. I got a free month of CBS All Access, so I got to see it for free. ;D When the second season has completely finished, I'll wait until I get another free week or month (I continually get those offers) and watch it then. Or I could wait until the library gets the DVDs. They got the first season, so I'm sure the second season will be released, too.
-
And now, I'm finally leaving work. I needed to clean up the areas around my computer because in the morning, I and several co-workers are each getting a second monitor. I've never had two monitors on one computer before (nor have any of the people who are getting them), but EVERYONE that I've talked to who have two say that they LOVE having two and can't imagine having only one ever again. Even my sister has two monitors hooked up to her home computer. We'll see if I drink that Kool-Aid.
-
Be back later!
-
Good evening.
-
It is almost midnight.
-
Ken and I just finished pasta and chicken fingers in our room. Ken went upstairs and snatched some off the buffet.
-
Let's move on.
-
Five!
-
BK, your Dropbox invitation has been sent.
-
I'm very late for bed. Good night, all.
-
I really like the improvements Holland America has made to the buffet.
-
You no longer serve yourself. You tell them what you want and how much of each and they serve it up for you. Much less disease associated with the buffet.

I am glad it isn't just us regarding the Klingons. We do seem to be more interested with each episode. Right now we also have it for free. We don't like it enough to pay for it.

Keith had two for a short while. It was fun and first and then he didn't want the second one anymore.
-
And they have some nice new stations. They have a great salad station with these huge salad bowls. You tell them what stuff you want, tell them what dressing, and then they toss it for you.
-
Ken and I just finished pasta and chicken fingers in our room. Ken went upstairs and snatched some off the buffet.
Good idea. Usually we snatch snacks for the room or ice cream at night for dessert.
-
I have eaten more salads this week than I have in the last month.
-
Often we go to the salad bar for lunch, especially if we eat breakfast early and won't have dinner until 7:00. Normally we don't eat lunch.
-
I like thousand island dressing. Since I do not eat it at home I often have it at the salad bars.
-
I can indulge cuz I rarely gain weight on cruises. This ladt trip I lost a pound, probably because I was sick.
-
Well, it is almost one in the morning. I need to try and get some sleep.
-
Good night.

I know. When I had the service for free, I didn't find any other shows that I wanted to watch, and I wasn't going to pay $5.99 a month for just one show.

That's what I'm wondering. But I figure that I might as well try it, then if I don't like it, I can either just not use it and set it aside, or give it back to the IT department for someone else.
-
