Spicy?

The Kung Pao Chicken is spicy.  The Black Pepper Ckicken is peppery.  And no, I didn't share.  It's all MINE!

Today is going to be a day.  I get to sleep in, then I need to go to a union meeting (hopefully, it'll be a short-ish meeting), then I need to help my sister and niece with my niece's chicken coop, then I'm working concessions for the Masterworks Choral Ensemble concert.  My friend Margo is ushering for the concert, so we'll probably go out afterward.  Then, I'll eventually come home.  It'll definitely be a long day.

Annabelle's not eating again.  I need a lottery win so I can have a vet on call 24/7.

I cleaned her stuffed nose, which she hates, and now she is ignoring blatantly all my attempts to offer her affection.

Stella risked death this morning.  She's clawed huge holes in every plastic bag I have, and I use them for garbage and dirty litter.  Every one is now unusable, and no matter how high I hang them out of the way, the blasted little devil manages to get to them.

I had planned to use the end of my round of work on groceries, but I fear I must hold off in case I need an emergency vet visit with Annabelle.  We'll see if she eats tonight.  Beyond that, I have very little planned for my day and it will be a lazy one.

Elmore, I wouldn't go to the the vet just yet.  Annabelle won't starve to death because she missed a few meals.  When she's hungry she'll eat.  My Bandit ( who I watched be born and who died in his sleep 16 years later) occasionally would turn up his nose and refuse to eat.  A meal or two later he was eating the same stuff he refused earlier.

DR JohnG, your comments about the play you saw reminded me that in the mid- to late- 1980s I saw in Princeton a play by a pretentious local playwright whose name I no longer remember any more than the play's title.  It was an Albee-Virginia Woolf ripoff about a Deathday Party some terminal character was throwing with lots of recriminations and idiocies, including a deat or murder, as I recall, and I thought it was ridiculously dreadful.  What do I know?  One of the NYC soaps hired this jerk to be a writer, which explains a lot about the stupidity of  much soap opera dramatics.

I would however make sure all plastic bags are safely inside a drawer, cabinet or storage box of some sort.  If a little piece gets caught in Stella's throat she could choke

We had to be sure all plastic bags were safely hidden because Bandit loved  to lick and chew plastic bags

She's not eating because of her nose and respiratory issues.  If she cannot smell the food, she won't touch it, and Stella and Thatch eat it.  I worry about this leading to dehydration.

Not when she can't smell.  It can be the same bowl, same locale, and different clean water.  If she cannot smell it, she passes it by.  When this first happened over a year ago, I forced water into her mouth with an eye dropper and smeared Gerber baby food onto her leg so she'd lick it off.

Great photo of the I DO! I DO! crew in the notes...which I’d like to share with our director and cast from 2017, not only for BK and Harvey Schmidt but because the recording itself was such a valuable reference (especially for us py-ano players).

How many in the picture can be identified?

Yes, the plastic bags need to be stored inside something. When you have a cat that’s attracted to chewing on plastic, it needs to be off limits for all of them. As our Poe is the one dubbed “Pica Cat” by his first vet, we had to become experts on this point.

The play, Mad Gravity, was pretentious. But it was still more interesting than some of the performances.

Let's see how many I can name in the photograph of I Do! I Do!

Front left to right: Dan Shaheen (he now runs the Schmidt estate), Harvey, li'l ol' me, and I'm not sure who the gentleman at the end is - perhaps pianist two.

Back left to right: Not sure - is it Mrs. Jones? - Tom Jones, David Garrison, Karen Ziemba, I think that's musical director Tim Stella, the woman looks familiar but can't place her, Vinnie, and my German assistant whose name starts with a G - it's in Album Produced By, but it's eluding me.  I wonder where she is today.  Two of my assistants from NY live in LA now and I've seen both recently.

That isn't the late Mrs Jones aka Janet Watson.  She's not in the photo.  Her birthday was yesterday, and I still miss her.  When I had surgery in 1999 on two cervical discs,  I woke up in the recovery room and Janet was holding my hand.  She had lied to the hospital and told them she was my sister.  I miss her.

Coincidence:  I just tried the Manischewitz matzoh ball soup.

The broth is always based on personal taste, and it errs on the side of very low-salt, because I guess people can add as much as they want, and whatever they want.

But the matzoh balls themselves were as good as when we used to make matzoh balls from the mix.

Fresh in a restaurant or deli is almost always best.  Right now, 5 Napkin Burger of all places makes a particularly fabulous matzoh ball soup.

The departed Artie's Deli (near Elmore) had a real good soup, too.

The matzoh ball mix is pretty good.  I prefer them a bit more on the fluffy side and Keith prefers them hard.  We are both pleased with the mix which falls in the middle.

She turned down the Fancy Feast Beef and Liver tonight, and I suspected it was because of her stopped up nose.  However, when I offered her some Temptations Shrimp kitty treat, she ate it!  So she's eating at the moment a mix Temptations kitty treats, dry Meow Mix Seafood cat food, and sone dry Purina cat food.  Perhaps she's decided she hates wet cat food?

I don't care as long as she's eating bona fide cat food, wet or dry.  Stella and Thatch can have the wet.

The garden is ablaze with mint, which is just getting bitter in the heat. So, I'm trying mint pesto for the first time.

As to the orchestration inquiry, I've heard a couple of songs and I liked them.  I'm told I will hear more on Monday, and I've asked to see a score.  They want an estimatyed orchestration fee, but there's more to the score than the songs, and I would like to get a bar count for the entire score.

Our cat tree is starting to look tacky.  The scratching post legs are unraveling, and I think it will be time to purchase a new one when/if a new round of work gives me some play money.  This is what we currently have, and Stella and Thatch seem to compete for the crow's nest.

The day is done and the evening has begun.  All music is sorted and in boxes and oh dear did I find a treasure trove of stuff I never did for Lost in Boston, about fifty songs ranging from Cole Porter cut songs to a ton of Kander and Ebb cut songs in a folder called Unsung Kander and Ebb - so apparently I was contemplating doing that.  I have stuff I think no one has heard cut from Chicago, Woman of the Year, and then rare stuff like the title song from Helzapoppin' by Jule Styne and the title song from A Broadway Musical by Charles Strouse.  I'm gonna have Richard come and play through all of it and I'll have some in show 100 and in the anniversary show.  And I found the Good Time Ladies Rag, cut from Pippin (the music is the Manson Trio music but the lyrics are really fun).  I also found a ton of my own stuff, so that's really good.  Stuff from when I was fourteen and fifteen that I have no real memory of.

The problem, first of all, was that the guys hired to clean out the rest of the junk were suppose to tidy up the place before they left.  However, an apparent misunderstanding about whether they were getting a tip caused them to walk out without doing any clean-up.
