Well, if you've read the notes you know what you must do.  Let's make dear reader Emily proud, shall we?

I'll be checking in from work and I hope to see a wonderful story to which I can contribute.

For a differing opinion on Hulk, check out Ron Pulliam's post (the final post of yesterday's posts) - that, as they say, makes horse racing.

I meant to point out exactly what he did - the Danny Elfman's music seems to have been written for another film - it's very mid-eastern and sounds like we should be watching a film set in Iraq.

We in fact have six roses Blooming in our garden this weekend!  In November!

Happy Birthday, Emily!

Yes, chat was very lively last night, and I was glad I was there - twice!

-------

"Hey, you!" said the woman to the gentleman.  "Hey, I said."

The man stopped reading his Playbill and looked up, "Are you talking to me?"

"Yea," she said.  "My name is Rose - I am the stage manager for this show.  Do you know the score?"

"Actors: 6  Audience: 3?"  asked the man innocently.

"NO!  Do you know the score to 'Half a Sixpence'?"

"Why yes," he replied, "I do.  Why?"

"Because our leading man is ill - and YOU are going on for the second act!" Rose exclaimed, and began pulling at his arm.

This was a revolting development, but an exciting one.  That is until he began to wonder if he would actually fit into those costumes....and would he have at least a short meeting with the choreographer....

-------------------------------------

Favorite comics:

Superman - especially the Krypton & "dream" issues.
Mad magazine, of course
Famous Monsters of Filmland

Actually started another storyline but didn't post it in time.......

Once upon a time, there was a man who had a habit of promising rose gardens. He promised a rose garden to everyone and yet he never delivered on his promise. This, of course, caused the man to have a lot of disgruntled people who harbored great animosity towards him. This man also loved musicals, and he would listen to his cast albums all the time, and he would also see musicals whenever he could - in between promising people rose gardens, that is.

One night, he was seeing a production of Half a Sixpence, a show that is rarely done. At intermission, he was standing in the lobby, when suddenly an irate and irritated woman came up to him and said...

Hey, you!" said the woman to the gentleman.  "Hey, I said."

The man stopped reading his Playbill and looked up, "Are you talking to me?"

"Yea," she said.  "My name is Rose - I am the stage manager for this show.  Do you know the score?"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY! POUTINE FOR EVERYONE.

JRand, loved the Birthday Cake song.

I read Superman, Archie comics, and the Disney comics, especially Scrooge McDuck and Donald and his nephews. I also remember enjoying the Harvey brand, Little Lulu, Richie Rich, Little Lotta.

I also loved the Hardy Boys series, especially when it transferred on-screen to the Mickey Mouse Club. You younger readers, by that I mean the Original Mickey Mouse Club, not the re-hash with Britney Spears and other current pop stars  ;D

I'll come back later and add to the story.

Sorry I couldn't make chat last night but dinner with friends was on our calendar. A nice breast of chicken with basil and sundried tomatoes, steamed baby carrots and wild rice was our main dish topped off by fresh seasonal fruit and good coffee.

Later, folks.

Happy Birthday, Emily.  I'd give you a gift of some karma but I still don't quite understand what that is.

Last night I made beef stew, without a recipe.  Improvisation is the spice of life, folks; yes, improvisation

BTW (By the way, in Internet lingo), I'll be teaching an advanced song improvisation course at Second City/NY over the next several Thursdays.  I'm also teaching a one-night drop-in (for which there's no prerequisite or commitment) next Monday night.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes and to BK for fulfilling my own personal "caprice" (Noel - are you sure that I can use that in English?)

I too will add to the story later.  Right now there is not enough caffeine in my system for serious creative writing! :)

Good morning everyone.  Chat last night was quite lovely but I was about 20 minutes late and I think I missed all the surprises.   ???

Thanks to those who replied to my theatre horror story.  Maybe I'm strange, but knowing people sympathize makes the whole experience easier to digest.  And like I said, I enjoyed the show so much that they didn't ruin it for me, which is a relief.  I did seriously think about calling an usher, and will keep that in mind for the next time.  (Hopefully, there won't be a next time!)  It's so unfortunate that there are, as Tom and Jennifer said, people who think going to the theatre is the same thing as being home in front of the TV.

Re: Finding Nemo

I also thought Ellen's performance was the best thing about this movie.  (I enjoyed it a lot, but didn't like it as much as the previous Pixar films.)  It would be great if she were able to receive some kind of award for it.  I've just recently started watching Ellen's talk show in the morning, and I think she is hilarious!  She is so gracious to her guests without being annoyingly self-serving like many other hosts.  I hope the show does well.

td - I agree about Albert Brooks.  He gives me the same feeling, but I didn't mind him as the father in this movie.

Re: other topics

MDS - sorry to hear about your losses.  My condolences to you and your family.

Happy Birthday to DR Emily!  Hope you enjoy your chicken and cake tonight.  (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/cool/cool-smiley-026.gif)

Remember BK - no rose garden means no thorns.

I've been a fan of the Disney Comic books since I was a kid.  At the time, I thought Walt actually had something to do with them but now I know all the best Duck stories and art were the work of Cark Barks.  Fortunately in the early 90s almost all of the Barks stories were reissued on good paper with strong binding, and they hold up beautifully.  After a short hiatus, several Disney titles began publishing  again last September, and while they are still fun to read, most of them can't come close to the Barks in story (although they do in art).

It's a busy day at work (first of the month) so I'll just make brief comments on the two shows we saw over the weekend.  CABIN IN THE SKY is one of those shows that falls into the great score/bad book category, but the cast at Musicals Tonight really did justice to the score so you didn't mind the book as much.

I've been waiting to see a production of MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF since I first heard the LP in 1966 and I'm glad to say it was worth the wait.  Mufti capped off a great season with a delightful production of this under-appreciated gem.

BK - I hope FINDING NEMO lives up to your rave.  I enjoyed SPIRITED AWAY, but after all the great things you said about it I was a little disappointed that I merely liked it and didn't love it.

What a great picture! Thanks for sharing, DR Kerry!

As a young kid, I liked Casper. Then, pre-teen, I switched to Archie comics. I couldn't wait to grow up and get in high school and do cool things like the Archie gang did.

I went to camp the summer I was 12 and got introduced to SUPERMAN, and that was it! I subscribed to every one of the DC family of comics where Superman or his pals had leading roles (meaning we got A LOT of comic books delivered in the mail to my house). Couldn't ever quite get into Batman then.

BIG, BIG fan of MAD magazine. Loved the Hardy Boys on THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB, but couldn't get into the books. I much preferred Nancy Drew for some reason. The mysteries just seemed more dangerous and exciting with girls doing most of the detecting. I was STILL buying the yearly Nancy Drew title when I was in college!

I forgot to mention comics.  I was always a big fan of Archie comics and think they are still in a closet somewhere in my mother's house.  I never got into Marvel or DC but I did watch some of the superhero shows on TV.  I also read a lot of Nancy Drew, even into junior high I would read the ones set in the present.

I've read some of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics (I love his novels, too) and really like them, but I'm too cheap to go searching for every past issue, so I usually borrow them from friends.  I like when past issues of comics are published in a handy-dandy book, making them easier to collect.

Happy Birthday Emily!!!  BK, you MUST go to the "Dear World" reading, it needs a new book but the score is so golden, if you get a chance to make an opinion if you go, if would be worth THEIR while, I'm sure.  But then again, if they have issues with your opinions you can say to them, "I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden" and of course, they'll look at you and think "What the HELL is he talking about!"  :)

Favorite comics when I was a kid were various Marvel comics but particularly THE INHUMANS, THE AVENGERS, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and THE FANTASTIC 4. I also picked up FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND each and every issue begining around 1975.

After I have had some coffee then I might try my hand at adding to the story-line. :-\

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EMILY!!![/move]  I hope you have a wonderful day.

KERRY:  I haven't seen that photo in years.  I used to have one of my sister's fan magazines that I saved because of that picture.  In those days, I wasn't really a fan of Roddy's (too fey), but Tab was, after-all, Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees.  I thought he was dreamy (LOL).

My favorite comics were the same as several others.  MAD Magazine was my all-time favorite and I was always getting into arguements with those unenlightened kids who preferred CRACKED to MAD  I also liked ARCHIE (I identified with Betty) and SCROOGE MCDUCK.

Ouch!  Oh! Too Bad:  I'm way sorry BK didn't like "The Hulk."  I, too, watched this film last night.  I have some reservations about it, but not about the director, not about the story and not about it's totally arresting presentation.  My reservations are about the music, and the stereotypical bug-a-boo of an eternally evil, always-against-the-civilians, military. Gimme a break.

I was fascinated, mostly, although the mid-eastern wailing affectations forced onto some of the scenes were joltingly banal and stupid.  One doesn't expect that in scenes taking place in the American desert with only Americans in sight.

The story is the "front" for the entire comic strip series -- how Bruce Banner became "The Hulk."  I thought the story developeld this "front" with compassion, intelligence and technical savvy.

It did not, however, have wit.  And it needed some wit.

Eric Bana was fine as Bruce Banner, pre-Hulk.  His character was mostly confused, so that's what Bana did with him throughout.  I'd have loved seeing him -- just once -- forego the shame and embrace the Hulk within. I caught a glimmer of that in the last scene, but it WAS the last scene.

The CGI Hulk worked fine, for me.  I accepted him quite easily, although I hate it when movies reveal all their special effects secrets before the film is ever released.  Way too much calling attention to the special effects folks making us ever mindful that what we're seeing is not real and can NEVER SEEM REAL now that we're onto how they did it.

Jennifer Connelly was, in my estimation, adequate.  Her character never rang true for me, although I don't blame Ms. Connelly for that.  It was not a sympathetic character.  She was too analytical in her relationship with Bruce and when he needed her most, she turned him over to the person with whom she had the most issues -- her father.  Toward the end, when she said she loved Bruce, I think I sneered, so little did I believe her.  And I'm a softy for screen romance.

Overall, it's a far more satisfying film than many of its ilk.  I liked it better than "Spiderman," and 1,000 times better than "Armageddon."  That measure ought to count for something by someone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The very best wishes, sweetie, on the start of your second decade!!

I SO wish now that I could have gotten on for chat earlier and stayed later, with all the revels and revelations that took place!  But the half hour I was there was tres fun.

I'm not a big comics person, although I do have more than a passing aqcuaintance with some comics due to some of the men in my life, hehe.  I agree with LC that The Sandman is excellent...so textured and mythic.  I like some manga, Japanese comics.  I also LOVE Mad Magazine...just brilliant satire.

MDS--My deepest condolences on your recent losses!

Well, I really should get going as I AM still at my friend's house.  I'll post my own addition to Emily's birthday story later!!

Thank you, Ron, for providing me with guidance on The Hulk.  I will never see it, because I don't waste my time on anything that lacks wit.  Life has wit.  Bad art doesn't.  In this way the two things are unlike each other.

Yes, birthday girl, I found "caprice" in the Oxford American Dictionary paperback.  This dictionary has hardly any words in it, so, when it does, you can be sure the word is used (in America, at least).

I read no comic books in my youth.  As a young man visiting Japan, I was surprised to find the newsstands had comic books aimed at adults, filled with sex and violence.  Not at all an enlightened attitude about women.  It all seemed so very foreign.

Now of course, on the subway, I see such comics read by people of different languages on seats next to me.

While waiting for the dentist, Dr. Bocarsky, I would read Mad Magazine.  But only then.

Good afternoon to my fellow Hainsies/Kimlets (the E. Coast ones anyway)! I am stuck here in my room until it is cleaned, which is going to take a million and a half years. Every article of clothing I own is on the floor, along with everything else you could possibly think of. Sad, really.

The Holiday babysitting season has begun, and I'm already on a roll. I have a job today at 1:30, and I'm already getting scheduled for parties in mid-December. I shall be rolling in the dough, although I'm going to have absolutely no life. I'll be rich and lifeless. Like Donald Trump.

I never read comics when I was younger, except the ones in the newspaper. They were too boy-ish for me. But I remember my brother always had Spiderman or X-Men or something of the sort lying around.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EMILY! No longer a teenager, *sob*, you've ditched me. I hope your day is filled with cake and happiness and presents and all that jazz.

I'll add to the story when I'm done with my lunch. Weren't we talking about roses in chat last night? It all goes fuzzy when you look at the shocking number of things that were revealed, I'm forgetting the details.

Pink tanktop, black sweatpants, pink flip flops. It is nice and warm here in VA...again...I'm loving it.

I came into the library to do an assignment for my Computers class. I need to make a Power Point presentation out of a file we put together in class. But we have to share computers, so the file is saved to the H:/ drive of the guy I worked with in class. Why does the teacher give assignments if only half the people in the class have the file? For DR Kerry: I'm glad you figured out how to post your pic.

For DR Swishy: For all we've heard about your dad not letting you use the internet right now (hey has that decision been reversed yet?), what you described yesterday was just really nice.  The fact that he waits up for you till you come home from babysitting, and the fact that he picks you up no questions asked ... he sounds like a really great dad.

Jennifer: My dad is awesome. Really smart and nice and funny and yeah. He always makes those corny "dad jokes", and he LIVES to go to my concerts and games and stuff. Uber-supportive and proud. Gotta love him.

And no, the internet thing hasn't been reversed. But I think he's just choosing to look the other way, because he hasn't said anything. I'm just not on as MUCH as I was. Like less than half the time. When report cards come out, we'll see what they say. If I have a B, then I think they'll let up on it. It I have a C or below, the computer is probably going to be taken away. I'm trying not to think about it.

Don't have time to write on the story, but I promise I will when I get home!! I get to go babysit kids while they're napping. Hopefully the stress won't kill me. ;)

Roger DeBris. He'll get you fit for your leather costumes (He Loves It) and you of course will have to have a crash course in playing a banjo and then it started to thunder and the skies opened up and a deluge occured. He immediatley started to sing If the Rains Gotta Fall.....

Suddenly, none other than Broadway's favorite producer, Max Bialystock, burst in and grabbed Roger by the arm.

Bialy's face was tomato-red...this of course, meant that he was not pleased.  "Roger, I've been looking all over for you!  I've just had an amazing idea for a new show."

Roger stood there, rapt.  "What...."Out Brief Candle," the Macbeth musical??  Or "Sexy Oedipus Rexy," the risque Ancient Greek revue??

"NO!" cried Bialy.  I'm going to put up the greatest musical of all time and I want you to direct it.  It's a musical about Atilla the Hun!!"

Roger clapped his hands together.  "I love it!  I can only imagine the possibilities!!!"

TCB--LOL, I stand corrected!  Emily is out of her teen years today, not going into her tween ones!

Roger immediately launched into a title song:

Attila, he was a killa
He was a darling, a sweetheart, a hun
Don't want to cross him
Don't want to boss him
Because if he gets mad it's really bad
And not a lot of fun!

Attila, strong as a pilla
He had such muscles especially his buns
He'll put your eye out
And you will cry out
Because Attila is the mother of all Huns
I really mean it
Attila is the mother of all Huns
He's pretty beefy
Attila is the mother of all Huns!

Roger looked at Max and said, "Well, what do you think?"

Max looked at Roger and said...
Title: Re:I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN
Post by: Jrand73 on November 03, 2003, 11:02:33 AM

Max looked at Roger and said:

"It's killer - we open in two weeks!"

Rushing to his office - with the strains of the Half a Sixpence Entracte filling his ears, Roger's feverish brain began to calculate.....

Attila the Hun....a hun-ey of a show....DeBris does it again...Hun Conquers Broadway...Hun's the One!

But the star would have to be someone who could command the stage.  A name that would mean instant box office and theatre parties for months.  Roger could always find someone to write the book and music, those people were easy to find - in fact why not just buy the James Darren catalog and work from that?  Inspired.

Roger thought a moment more and then flipped his rolodex.  He knew the man for the part.  He knew the performer who had those mysterious qualities that stage audiences love.  He checked the card and dialed a number in Las Vegas.

The dark haired man picked up on the first ring:  "Hello this is Robert Goulet speaking."

"Bob," said Roger excitedly, "do you have Michael Crawford's telephone number?"

"How lucky is this", Goulet crooned, in that velvet baritone of his. I'm having lunch with Michael this afternoon. We're going to discuss my taking Dance of the Vampires out on a full-blown Equity tour. Would you care to join us? Meet us at the Cafe Edison in 10 minutes. Love you. Just once...just once...I would like to get to the beginning of the New Year without having to change my Insurance Carrier.  All of the paperwork, all of the aggravation.  Making sure your doctor is in the plan, making sure that your premium doesn't triple, and making sure everything you need is in the plan.

I am NOT ready for government sponsored insurance, but why does it have to change every year???

Somehow, DR MBarnum, I feel that we are voices in the wilderness and that Miss District of Columbia 1949 is destined to remain a cult figure, known only to a few.

Until the Criterion DVD Release of Pier Five Havana, that stirring political diatribe starring Mary Jane and Cameron Mitchell, she will be only footnote in the annals of Hollywood Show Business.

I'm finally back from DC...what a long weekend it has been. I think I got about 6 hours of sleep the whole time I was there. First off, my allergies are all in a tizzy because of the weird temperature changes (as DR Ben said, it's November and nearly 80 degrees! What's that about?!) Secondly, I saw BOUNCE yesterday and could hardly make it through the first performance, so I skipped out on the evening performance and let someone else go in my place.

The show is bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. The direction is bad, the music is apparently the rest of Sondheim's trunks songs from other shows that he didn't get to use in PASSION, the scenery didn't make sense a lot of the time, and a few of the performances were quite dull--especially Ms. Jane Powell. The story isn't at all worthy of being musicalized and at intermission I was ready to go home. Howard McGillin sounded fabulous, as usual, but brought very little interest to his character, though I fear that is the way the role is written...Richard Kind was wonderful, and our very own Ms. Michele Pawk was very good as well. Mr. Gavin Creel was quite handsome, but wasted in his role, and Ms. Jane Powell...well...she didn't impress me at all and her voice is practically non-existent now. Mr. Prince's direction is stale, predictable and sometimes downright silly, and Mr. Sondheim, as I said, has recycled some of his favorite...um...melodies...and even some of his favorite "clever" lyrics. Is it a requisite now to use the combination of "reverse/curse" in every show he writes? I love Sondheim...I love Prince...but I think this show was a bad idea. Perhaps with a few listens to the score I might appreciate it more, but I really doubt that I could sit through it again.

The trip home thoroughly exhausted me. Greyhound Busses aren't the most comfortable things in the world, so I think I'm going to take a nap now.

Happy Birthday, Emily and a Happy Belated Birthday to DR Mark Rothman!! (Only 16 days to my natal day celebration...)

DR Tom: Thank you for the new calendar! The pictures are gorgeous!

DR Ben: Loved the pictures. Who knew you looked like William Katt?

You see?  I am just too anal for this kind of story.  I thought the story was taking place in New York, and then it kind of shifted to L.A.  But then Roger called Goulet in Vegas and the three of them decided to get together for lunch at the Cafe Edison in ten minutes.  Well, I don't know where the Cafe Edison is, but I know you can't get from L.A. to Vegas in ten minutes...... So, was Roger in Vegas the whole time?  Does Roger have a rocket ship to get from L.A. to the Cafe Edison?  So, I am at a total loss as to how to proceed with the story?  Does any of that make sense?

Isn't the Cafe Edison somewhere in the low 50's between B'way and 8th Ave. at the Hotel Edison? I believe I ate there once...it was tasty and CHEAP! The only thing that scared me about it was the very pushy Czech man who asked me what I wanted before he ever gave me a menu...

Someone said, "How can we be in three places at the same time, that's what I'd like to know?"  It was then that they all realized they were in a time/space continuum.  The theme from The Twilight Zone began to play inside their heads as Robert Goulet said...

I've read some of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics (I love his novels, too) and really like them, but I'm too cheap to go searching for every past issue, so I usually borrow them from friends.  I like when past issues of comics are published in a handy-dandy book, making them easier to collect.

Any fan of Neil Gaiman deserves all the karma I can muster! ! !

DR Drumm (he of Phoenix, AZ - and where is he now?) got me started onto The Sandman series; I had already read and loved NEVERWHERE, but never thought myself to be the graphic novel/comic book kinda guy.  Well, I was wrong ! ! ! Gaiman's take on mythology, dreams and the human condition is one of a kind.  My last two Ebay wins were the dvd of the BBC broadcast of NEVERWHERE and the most recent Sandman graphic novel!

I also, thanks to DR Drumm (come back to HHW, B.D., B.D.!) have a place in my heart for Allan Moore's graphic novels; which is one of the reasons that FROM HELL, the movie, disappointed me. . .

Robert Goulet took one look at the bill of faire at the cafe and shouted, "Now they have me working for hot dogs!"

Max calmly stated, "Bobby, baby. . . it's a kosher wiener."

Goulet, sullen, exclaimed, "If I had bigger ears, would you be tossing me peanuts as pay?"

Max, hesitant to create a furor in the Edison Cafe, blurted out, "Well, at least I never promised you a rose garden."

At which point, Tricia Nixon Cox walked gracefully into the cafe.

Yes, Dear BK, thanks for the deux ex machina to get us back. We east coast folk can tend to be a little NY centric when it comes to place. Sorry bout that! We were talking about Max Bialystock, after all, so I just assumed (I know, never assume, you make an ass of u and me;-)

According to Playbill On-Line, Urinetown will close on January 18. It may be a publicity shot, but if not, I hope some deal will pop up to keep it open. It deserves to run longer, even without Mr. Cullum.

Too bad about Bounce. Doesn't sound like it will come to NY after Chicago and DC.

I'm back, and $15 richer. I read a little bit of Sir Gawain, and watched a lot of TC. TLC has the best shows, I love the "Story" series. I also watched the first installment of 'Diddy Runs The City". I like P. Diddy. His music isn't GREAT, but it could be a lot worse, and he's got serious determination. If you haven't got the slightest clue as to what I'm talking about, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs ran the NY Marathon to raise $1,000,000 for the public schools in the NYC area. He is NOT a runner, and had to learn how to run 26 miles without killing himself. He did it in a little over 4 hours, which is AWESOME. It was fun to watch the thing unraveling.

It is HOT. I am in shorts and a tank top and I am HOT I tell you. It's wonderful. Hopefully this will carry over through December, although I doubt it. If it NEVER gets cold, I'll be as happy as a clam. WHAT does that mean, anyway? Are clams happy?

I think I got lost at some point during the story, so let me reread it, and I'll take it from there.

He started to floridly sing in his once-full baritone--
"Seeing you in summer, I never would go
Your hair streaked with sunlight, your lips red..."

But Goulet could not finish the phrase for who should have walked in but Sir Elton John and David Hasselhoff.  Sir Elton, clad in a white leather jumpsuit, looked ecstatic.

"This is it, everyone!  I have found my Vampire Lestat!"

At that Hasselhoff started to sing a song from the score and Bialy, Roger, Michael Crawford, Cynthia Nixon, Courtney Cox Arquette and everyone else present at the Edison Cafe, simulataneously put their hands to their ears and screamed.

Re Bounce - the positive reviews are few, and Brantley's was predictable.  It's not positive for the show, but he, as always, refuses to place any blame at Mr. Sondheim's feet.  He worships at the alter, as it were.

Same with Mr. Kissel.  More telling is the audience reaction (despite the flag-wavers), and the out of town reviews.  One can set their clock by Brantley, Sondheim-wise.

Having only heard the workshop version I can tell you that if any songs from that version were retained it is not a good thing - it was really bad, almost as if someone were doing a not-very-good Sondheim parody.

"Ah, Carol, you know me too well.  Hey, there's an idea!  Why don't we get that gorgeous producer Bruce Kimmel to produce an album of you and i singing duets?  We could start with "I Know Him so Well" and move onto. . ."

Try this one out on Helen Lawson as portrayed by the late, GREAT Susan Hayward:

The story continues:

Meanwhile, in a galaxy far far way, two aliens were working out at the gym.  "I LOVE Moose Charlap - he wrote Whoop Up," sadi the first alien, whose name was Faboo.  The second alien, whose name was Divoon, looked at Faboo and said, "Oh, you're so West Hollywood."  Faboo looked at Divoon, who was wearing a tight glitter shirt and short shorts, and said, "Look who's talking.  I heard you singing those songs from Ari."

The two aliens went into the steam room to continue their discussion.

"I think we ought to do an all-alien version of Hello, Dolly!" said Faboo.

"I think you ought to shut your bleedin' pie hole," said Divoon.

"You watch your lizard tongue, or I'll sing the whole score from Pleasures and Palaces," said Faboo.

"Oh, Mary, you're so Nellie," said Divoon, paying a tribute to Mary Martin and her most famous role in the same sentence.

Just then, a third alien came in the steam room, sat down, and said

"Hi, guys! Guess what!  I just got cast as the lead in a NEW MilkyWay musical!"

Faboo and Divoon swooned!

Then the third alien, whose name was ToDieFor, rushed out to find others to tell his news to.

Meanwhile, Faboo lifted himself off his four butt cheeks and adjusted his towel.  "I just hate that ToDieFor...don't you?"

"Oh, I don't know," Divoon said dreamily. "He's pretty good looking!"

"Sure," Faboo spat out.  "He's okay if you like brown, green and purple eyes!  And don't get me started on his beak!"

Well, clearly there was an hour between posts, from 3:46 to 4:46 or thereabouts - I do believe we wuz down, although no one has admitted that to me yet.  That said, at least whatever backup system is in place seems to have worked in a somewhat timely fashion (tank top and leather pants).

Now, where were we:

Faboo said, "Why haven't they ever unsealed them divorce papers between Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence?  They never did figure out that the two of THEM were aliens, did they?  I thought it was obvious, but them earth people are gullible."

Divoon took a deep breath of steam and sang Steam Heat.

We did indeed have a problem before - some hacker-related issue on the server - don't know if it was specific to us or not, but that would be doubtful.  Still, they caught the issue, and got us back up in record time, so that is the good news.  Now, let's get off them lazy butt cheeks and continue our story and get some postin' goin' on.  I'm off to see Dear World in a bit.

I hope some of you read this--I think it would be interesting to you...

A new movie has just been released called Anything But Love. It's a musical and was filmed similar to the Technicolor films of the 1950's. It stars Isabel Rose, Andrew McCarthy and Alix Korey--with a special appearance by Eartha Kitt. The score is full of standards plus some new material by Steven Lutvak. They don't have major distribution so they are relying on word-of-mouth and screenings at film festivals. There are several movie houses in the L.A. area that will be showing it on November 14. Here's a link to their website for all the info plus will keep you apprised of any new screenings should you like to see it http://www.anythingbutlovemovie.com (http://www.anythingbutlovemovie.com).

I sent BK an e-mail shortly after 4 p.m., PST, asking if there was a problem with the site.  He apparently hasn't read it yet...or accessed that mailbox.

I tried sending one to Tom of Oz, too, but it was rejected...a failure....

And Matt H, too.  I'm hoping he got it, although I don't require a response now.

It was all too depressing at the time.

About this here storyline:

Are we allowed to just find a point somewhere in the story and then start adding to it even though the story has already been continued and is at a different point?

It seems hinky to me!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!!

Oh boy, I’m in.  Last night our computer had problems.  Once we were back on line I couldn’t get in to post.  For some reason my password wouldn’t work.  Maybe I was too tired by then to type correctly.

MDS, my deepest condolences.

I loved Superman comics.  My brother & I would have to smuggle them into the house as my mother thought they were junk.  It didn’t matter that we were well read and our sister, who didn’t read much of anything, didn’t bother with the comics.  My favorite books were horse stories, especially The Black Stallion series.  My all time favorite book was Rusty, A Cocker Spaniel.  Of course it was about a wonderful, bright and courageous Cocker Spaniel.

I enjoyed the Hulk.  It was better than the original previews, after the Hulk himself was improved.  It was also sad as I missed Bill Bixby.

MDS, love the cake!

78 degrees!  Its was only 46 degrees here today and last night it snowed.

Tomorrow I will try to change the picture of the duck I accidentally picked up.  Thanks for the help Ron.  Hope it works.

Happy, Emily!

Just a quick note: the lead-footed der Brucer and I have made it to Knoxville, KY (lead-footed being a ref to his behavior in Texas).  I've got lots of catching up to do, obviously, but won't be able to do any of that until we get to Rehoboth Beach, DE, if then!  (There are phone hookups to deal with.)

Many many many many (that's four manys) stories to be told of our travels, which will take some time to organize and write, so let us simply say that I look forward to the telling, and to catching up with everyone else's lives.  Der Brucer and the dog dog dog dog dog (that's five dogs!) are all well.

Best to all! - S. Woody

Dear Readers--

I have just returned from the Musical Theatre Guild's semi-staged production of Dear World in Glendale, California.

I ran into Dear BK during intermission and enjoyed chatting with him and some of his friends.  He assured me that he will be writing about Dear World in tomorrow's notes, so I shall endeavor to not steal any of his thunder.  Can't help but say, however, that my scorecard ended up reading Score:  10.  Book:  3.  (Oh, a A Chorus Line reference.)

There were a few notables in the audience beside BK.  I'm pretty sure I saw Guy Haines (well, the back of his head) across the lobby before the show began, but by the time I was able to make my way over there to say hello, he was gone.

Okay, it's pretty late, but who says we can't beat yesterday's posts?  Here's number 167.

Did anyone watch "Average Joe" hosted by Kathy Griffin?  It's a new spin on an old "reality" show.  A beautiful woman with 16 not-so-beautiful men.  Some very not-so-beautiful.  I'll admit that several were kind of cute, IMO (in my opinion, in Internet lingo).  But, I'm not the one on the show.  Anyway, that's what I watched this evening.

What's all this fuss about not doing as well today as we did yesterday.

And where in tarnation has everybody gone to, that's what I'd like to know.

MBarnum:  Thanks for the info re: Gordon Mitchell.  Can you share more info on him?  Was he a bodybuilder?  Did he do other movies?  I know nothing about him, but I'm glad you got to know him.

Tonight's episode of "Everwood" was magnificent.  I'm often amazed at the writing and acting, but tonight they outdid themselves and guest stars Beau Bridges and James Earl Jones were vibrant and real and very touching   I cannot recommend this show highly enough to anyone.  It's quality to the nth degree!

I think it may be the novelty is wearing off a bit, BK!

That, and the stunning realization that after you earn 3 stars at 100 posts, there's nothing "more" to look forward to on the "how-many-gizmos-can-I-amass-by-my-name" circuit!

Or it could simply be that we lost a bunch of potential posts when things went kaflooey for an hour this afternoon.

For me, it's always been about the content, and now that we can add pictures, I like the prospects even more.  I'm sure things will stabilize to your satisfaction.
