Well, you've read the notes, the notes were judgmental, and now it is time for you to post until the judgmental cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FLOUNCE!
-
I do believe that this day I shall achieve a new milestone.
-
I feel it in my bones.
-
What it is doing in my bones is anyone's guess.
-
First post after BK.
-
I do believe that this day I shall achieve a new milestone.
PPUUUSSSSSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 73 more to go!!
-
I've got 18,076 more to get to six digits of posts. ::)
;)
-
Jane only has 9,961 more to go!
-
Topic of the Day: the only ones that I've seen are:
The Man Who Came to Dinner
You Can't Take It with You
Separately:
Moss Hart: Lady in the Dark (only know the score), A Star is Born (movie),
George S. Kaufman: June Moon (I have the video with Jack Cassidy and Stephen Sondheim), Of Thee I Sing and Let 'Em Eat Cake (I only know these two from recordings), Dinner at Eight (movie), Stage Door (movie)
I wish I could see their original Merrily We Roll Along.
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!

Good morning

Today is the 25th anniversary of OJ Simpson's Bronco chase. It was a Friday. That means as well that 25 years ago today I flew to Ohio for the week to be with my dying mother. I spent my days driving a rental car to and from my parents' house to the hospital in Dayton. Once there, I would check in with my mother and her nurses, then head for the cafeteria where I set up shop at a table for the rest of the day. I had two or three charts to write for BK's "Christmas on Broadway" recording, and each evening on my drive back from hospital I stopped at a Fed Ex dropoff to send music back to NYC.
I would leave my table occasionally and return to my mother's room, where I spent time with her sister Dorothy, various cousins, my dad who drove up later than I did, and my brothers. Each day watching my mother was like watching a building close down - a window here would go out, then another - as dementia and small strokes closed her systems down. No one should walk into a room to find a naked mother trying to remove a catheter.
When I think of Sally from Follies, my mother is the closest I know to be the part. This is her graduation photo before disillusion, personal demons, and depression stole her dreams.
-
So, today is the 25th anniversary of the worst three weeks of my life. I flew back to New York at the end of the week on June 24 to finish up the "Christmas On Broadway" work. The next week I had to deliver the charts for Sally Mayes' Comden & Green album. My mother had rallied the day before I flew back to NYC, and I thought, perhaps things are changing. My asshole brother Macbeth had become angry with me for stating the day before after watching my mother talk to a number of dead relatives including her parents and several sisters that she was dying and would not leave the hospital alive. I had seen too many friendscwith AIDS before their passing, and it all seemed too familiar.
-
So I flew back to Ohio on a Friday afternoon. That morning I walked into my mother's room where a nurse begged me to try to get her eat. For the entire morning, my mother was completely still and comatose. When my dad arrived and saw the state she was in, he broke down and wept, saying she;s never coming out of here alive, and I told him IU thought she was very near death. The day before she had rallied, and I took that as a good reason to fly back, finish BK's recording and get everything frozen for the Comden & Green album.
When I said goodbye to my mother, I put my arms around her, bent down, begged her to eat, told her I'd be back after Monday, and kissed her cheek. She opened her eyes, looked lucidly at me, and said, that's the last you'll get. Then she drifted back to her comatose existence.
I wept all the way to the airport.
-
On Monday night, Randy called me to say our mother would not last the night. I told him I would fly back on Tuesday. Aropund three hours later he called back to say she was dead.
I flew back to Dayton, my brother Macbeth and his then fiancee Lady M picked me up. They asked me how my flight was, and that was the last time they spoke to me for about two years. After the funeral, I began orchestrating Sally's opening number "Fireworks," and I flew back to New York. On Friday I went to Patrick Brady's apartment to show him what was written, and he said they were adding one more number, "When the weather's Better," to the recording. Since I was behind, I asked him if he could write the chart. When La Mayes, who showed up to rehearse as I was leaving, heard this, I could see she was not pleased.
-
And so began the third week from hell. She was not pleased. When friends stopped by the sessions, she introduced them to everyone but me, she talked about how fabulous Patrick's chart for "When the Weather's Better" was whenever I was in hearing. My memory is that we began on July 5 since Monday was the 4th. We recorded the rhythm and vocal tracks, then the string tracks, and I had to call BK and tell him I could not finish the brass and reed parts for the last session on Wednesday. I was burned out, the sessions had been so unsettling and negative that I no longer cared.
We recorded the few charts we could on Thursday, the players agreed to finish up on Saturday morning, and I went home, called my dad, asked him for around a thousand dollars to pay the players for the last session. He wired me the money, and on Saturday we finished the recording and I paid the players for the session.
I will always love BK for his patience that week. As for the recording, it turned out rather well, and Patrick did a very good job with "When the Weather's Better."
-
I must leave in an hour. I missed last week's podiatrist appointment, so we'll try again today/ This afternoon. Annabelle will see Dr Mohr at City Vet.
-
Time to clean the litter and leave the babues water and food.
-
Ooh. I dozed off and got another hour of sleep
-
That was nice
-
I am sorry about your terrible memories of that time Elomore
-
If today is the 25 anniversary of OJs bronci run then it is the 25 anniversary of the last vacation I took with my parents.
-
Vixdad, the 14 month old Vixter and I drove to Florida in our little Hyundai excel and my parents drive in their Taurus wAgon and we met at our timeshare in Kissimmee
-
25 years ago today the Vixdad was changing the Vixter into her pjs and she was being silly and wriggling and bouncing and bounced right off the bed and hit her head
-
We were frantic and rushed her to the urgent care facility down the road but she was fine
-
Later that night my folks insisted that Vixdad and I go out for a nice meal while they babysat
-
We were frantic and rushed her to the urgent care facility down the road but she was fine
That's scary!
-
It was the first meal out alone since the Vixter was born
-
We were in the dining room of a little Orlando restaurant that had a bar connected ...we noticed the restaurant was slowly emptying as people were leaving their meals unfinished and moving into the bar to watch the tv
-
We thought perhaps there was some big sporting event going on (not being sports fans ourselves) and paid no attention, finished our meals and headed back to the unit
-
Over the car radio we heard about the low speed chase
-
And arrived back at the unit to find my parents glued to the tv, my dad so sad saying "not OJ....oh why?"
-
Monday morning greetings! Today we're prepping for Washington, DC. The only errand I have to do is Staples for a black printer cartridge, which I thought I bought last Friday. When I went to install it, I discovered that I'd bought a color one - holiday head.
-
DR Vixmom, we'll arrive in the DC area (Crystal City, actually) Thursday, but will be fast asleep by the time you get to Greenbelt. Friday I'll be in an all-day genealogy seminar, but you can wave as you proceed south.
-
25 years ago today Rob and I were in Phoenix at my Mom's and Richard would join us several days later. We'd been out looking for comic books for Rob, who was almost 9. I think we saw the beginnings of the chase on a TV in some store and watched the whole thing on TV when we got back to Gram's condo.
-
DR Elmore, I'm sorry we were out of town 25 years ago when you were going through all that with your mother. But I'm glad we were back in time to give you a hug at her funeral.
-
I never missed HIGHWAY PATROL when it was on. It was produced by ZIV Television.
The Zivs were distant relatives who I didn't meet until the 1980s.
-
My son, David, is coming over this evening for a belated Father's Day celebration.
Yesterday, he and his musical group were off doing a gig someplace.
-
Jane only has 9,961 more to go!
;D
-
I fell asleep ladt night.
-
Later I woke up with a headache which keeps coming and going.
-
Currently it hurts.
-
DR elmore I too am sorry about your difficult memories. My sister was mad at me for believing my father was dying.
-
*Hugs* for DR ELMORE.
-
Yes it was a Friday.....I was playing the middle Audrey II in a production LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS....so we didn't see much of the chase.
-
This morning was completely different from last week's difficult attempt to get to the appointment.
This morning I left the apartment around 8:25, got to the bus stop just before the bus arrived, got off the bus at 72nd Street and literally boarded the Fifth Avenue bus. I got off that bus at the 42nd Street stop and transferred to the next bus immediately. I got to my appointment 30 minutes early, was seen immediately and was out by 9:45, the time of my original appointment. I had the same easy transfers getting home, so I stopped at the corner bodega and purchased lottery tickets.
-
I hope Annabelle's trip to the vet this afternoon goes as smoothly.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I hope Annabelle's trip to the vet this afternoon goes as smoothly.
I hope the lottery winnings go just as smoothly, too!
-
Wow, thanks to DR Elmore for sharing the memories. Twenty-five years. Quarter of a century. Unreal, man. And so much going on at that very moment.
-
Not sure if I watched some of the OJ chase as it was happening, or if it was later that evening.
My stronger memory of OJ is the day the jury reached their verdict. I had been on an overnight trip to one of our big customer's annual "Oktoberest" dinner and was flying back from Harrisburg, PA to Westchester County Airport on the most beautiful sunny mid-autumn afternoon. As we were "deplaning" people were saying a verdict had been reached and was about to be announced. This part's silly, but I got over to my car as quickly as possible so I could turn on WCBS ("traffic and weather on the eights") and listen in privacy.
Of course I knew it could go either way, but I was truly floored when I heard it. Without a doubt, it's just as well I heard it alone, driving up I-684. :)
-
One of our cast has been in touch with Seth Rudetsky, who wrote "Please write me back and tell me what got the biggest laugh!".
(As far as I know, there are no plans for him to go up to see the show.)

On the day the verdict was reached our law firm effectively shutdown while we all went to the bar/restaurant across the street to have a mass lunch and watching on the tv for the results
-
The place was packed , once the verdict was announce there were cheers from some tables and dead silence from or mutters from the rest of them

I don't remember much about the actual car chase, except that I did watch some of it on the news later in the day. I do remember the verdict, though. I was here at work and several of us were in our staff room listening to the radio. All of us were very surprised (and not in a good way) at the outcome. :-\

I shall have to think about the TOD....I have been in a couple of productions, but I don't think I've seen any.
My favorite is George Washington Slept Here......
-
Reaching the goal vibes for MR BK.
-
Tonight we will have our last rehearsal in the Rehearsal Center while SHREK has its second set of auditions.
Then we move into the theatre and THEY get the Rehearsal Center. Of course we can't build our set until Sunday because the Youth Theatre Workshop SHAKESPEARED! is meeting daily with a performance on Saturday.....
-
The man is here to work on my heat pump. He says he thinks the blade he put into it was the wrong size....so he went to buy a new one.....fingers crossed.

Good morning.

The OJ experience was the beginning of a sad year for me. I was driving home from the VCR repair shop after dropping off the VCR for repair. I listened to the chase on the radio on the drive home. Without the VCR, our TV didn't work, so we didn't have a working TV for several years after that. I missed the entire OJ thing.
A few months after the chase, my best friend was diagnosed with a non-smoker lung cancer. She died a year to the day after Nicole Simpson died.
I heard the verdict when I was at the local community college cafeteria after my singing class.

In summer theatre I worked on a really bad production of You Can't Take It With You.
I've only seen live productions of The Man Who Came To Dinner (Ellis Rabb) although I preferred the broadcast with Nathan Lane as Sheridan Whiteside, and Dinner At Eight at Lincoln Center, which was glorious.
-
Something I just found out was that yesterday wasn't just Father's Day and my mom's birthday, it was also Pete and Chasten Buttigieg's first anniversary! Happy anniversary to the couple! ;D
-
And on a sad note, Gloria Vanderbilt, heiress and jeans queen, has died at age 95 (https://www.cbsnews.com/live-news/gloria-vanderbilt-died-heiress-jeans-queen-dead-age-95-cause-of-death-cancer-2019-06-17/). At 95 years old, she certainly led a life.

I'm up, I'm up - since ten, but the garage people came five minutes later - got all the books (my books) out (I kept only a few copies of each) and the shelving unit they were on, which now enables me to walk everywhere. I still haven't found the digital video tapes that were in my hall closet and that is very frightening to me. I still have a few boxes to go through but...
-
Then someone came and bought a few CDs.
-
And now I need to catch up on stuff.
-
And eat.
-
A package is due, but it's coming via Logistics (Amazon's delivery service) and that means it will either not get here, the moron will attempt an after closing delivery, or it will get there just before they close, which means I won't get it until tomorrow. They're not supposed to use logistics on my stuff anymore, it's in my account record, but this was ordered prior to that - hopefully this will be the last of them.

I believe the only play I’ve seen live is THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, in a sublime production by one of our top local theaters with top director and cast. These people completely, totally, got it.
And other than the movie, the only professional production I’ve seen was the (one time?) showing on TV in the early 70s with Orson Welles as Whiteside.
So is that all? Seems ridiculous, but there it is. I do love the play ACT ONE *about* Kaufman and Hart from several years back...of which I loved the Lincoln Center telecast, and for which I played the original score in a local production.

We saw a wonderful production of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Having seen the moving I had no idea how delightful and funny the play was.
-
Got some Taco Bell for lunch. I'll probably go do some organizing in the garage now - one nice thing, all the overflow art books are now on shelves out there so easy for me to get to finally.
-
For a buck at Taco Bell you get a cheesy bean and rice burrito that's quite filling - I add onions to it. So, if you have that and one other one dollar item you have a very filling meal for two bucks. At McDonald's you can get two McD's (two patties, one bun, cheese) for three bucks.
-
I gotta tell you.

We are home from the vet. Annabelle is indeed sick and she has a fever. She was dehydrated so she was given fluids and I have a prescription to give her for the next week. I knew she was sick. She was not doing any of her usual things like climbing onto my lap to watch TV, pestering me in the morning to patrol and helping me clean the litter, chatting to me as I work, and climbing all over my work table.
At the vet she seemed frightened, and she either hanged on to me or took safety in the carrier. Usually she leaps all over the office and explores. My little girl is sick.

I still have that production of ACT ONE on my DVR. I really enjoyed it. That's one show that I eventually want to make an actual Blu-ray of...I just need to get off my butt and do it.

I've not seen the play, but Moss Hart's autobiography Act One should be required reading for anyone in theatre. It's one of my absolute favorite backstage books, and I've read it many times since 1964 or so. The last time was 1986 while I was working on Jubilee.

Poor baby. I hope she feels much better simply having been hydrated. Is she contagious?

Feel better fast, girl!

Hello, everyone.
-
GET-WELL-PRONTO VIBES to DK Annabelle!
-
Twenty-five year ago today I was staying at my father's house in Culver City, not far from where BK and Jane grew up. My father had passed away a month before, I was grieving deeply, and trying to get the house cleaned out so it could be put on the market. I heard a lot of commotion from helicopters overhead and turned on the TV to see what was happening. It was the Bronco chase. The house was just a few blocks from the San Diego Freeway, so I was both watching the account on TV and living it first-hand.

That was a dark time in my life as well.

I've been watching the new TALES OF THE CITY. Anna Madrigal has some great lines. Maupin is one of the writers--it's a team--and I suspect he's writing her lines. Olympia Dukakis, at 88, is as wonderful as ever.
-
No, Annabelle is not contagious. If she were, Dr Mohr would have said something. She's on her usual prescription for these respiratory issues: azithromycin.
-
TCB, why was there such a delay in receiving the second part of your sectional?
-
Vibes you're settling in well and unpacking is going smoothly.
-
TTFN.
-
I've been pondering for several months the huge number of complimentary rejections I got from literary agents. I decided to wait for six months to a year before I began submitting the Annabelle and Thatch stories again while I decided what I wanted the book to be. I think I've solved the problem with a new opening chapter. It needs some developing, but I think I'm on the right track.
-
Important envelope arrived via Fed Ex, which was a surprise. Also the logistics package arrived, too, and one other. Not a bad day at ALL.

I thought not but you might not have mentioned it. I am glad she isn't having had 3 cats at once with a severe respiratory illness.

I decided to wait for six months to a year before I began submitting the Annabelle and Thatch stories again while I decided what I wanted the book to be. I think I've solved the problem with a new opening chapter. It needs some developing, but I think I'm on the right track.
Good vibes with this.

Page four? Really?
-
Really? Page four?
-
I found a lyric I wrote sometime in the 80s - really good, I think - have no idea what the tune is so I wrote a new one - I'll get used to it and if I end up really liking the tune I may just introduce it in one of the next two Kritzerland shows.
-
I am actively bored of this page.
-
I need a new page.
-
And I have one!
-
Damn them, damn them all the hell.
-
I ate some chocolate mousse - very rich and I now I feel I shall vomit on the ground.
-
Page five? Really?
-
I can get us to page seven and then I shall achieve a new milestone and a big milestone it shall be and I do hope someone is at the ready to commemorate such a thing.
-
I found another box of Kritzerland show music that Alexa missed completely, so I got that all organized and up on a shelf and there's a half a box of room in it for new show books.
-
I watched quite a bad movie on Amazon Prime late last night. Irresistible, starring Susan Sarandon and a very young Emily Blunt. Sam Neill, too. Poorly directed and written.
-
Good acting, though.
-
In a mere fifty postings I shall milestone big.
-
I left my phone at the office
-
I don't have a key to this office and since everyone actually goes home at the end of the day I couldn't retrieve it
-
BK--thanks for mentioning Taco Bell. I've never been there and it seems there's one very close to me. They actually have a vegetarian menu online. And the prices are great! I'm going to check it out soon.

That's pretty cool.

You've never been to Taco Bell?? You've definitely been deprived!
-
Of course, it's not "great" food, but I like it. :)

Don't forget to take your charger with you to work tomorrow.

Well, I want to leave work, so I'm going to.
Be back later.

Page five? Really?

I'm watching another four episodes of Highway Patrol. Sometimes it gets quite maddening in terms of locations - you see an address and you pretty much know it's right here in the valley - the one I just saw would be near Lankershim, but the layout of the streets is very wonky.
-
Good evening, all.
-
Made it to the resort where we had a huge storm all night long. Tornado, gales of wind, sheets of rain. Today was clear and bright.
-
I saw a horrific production of Once in a Lifetime from an avant-garde director who didn’t trust the script. But I have read a few others of Kaufmann and Hart’s plays, including the original Merrily We Roll Along.
-
(((((Hugs for Elmore)))))
-
Sorry I couldn’t help you pack, Vixmom.
-
I‘ve been too busy swimming.
-
I cooked pork chops smothered in mushrooms tonight. They came out really good.
-
Tomorrow might be lamb chops.
-
Let’s move on...
-
Six!
-
Listening to string quartets from Philip Glass, George Antheil and Bernard Herrmann.
-
Carol has gone to bed.
-
BK, did you watch ADAM-12 back in the day, or have you checked it out since for locations?
How about EMERGENCY? I remember less about that one in this regard.
-
Finished the first book of the trip, Balzac’s The Provincial Curate. Now trying to finish Death in the Dark by Stacey Bishop aka George Antheil.
-
TOD The only production I remember was at LACC. It was "The Man Who Came To Dinner" featuring our own BK as Banjo. He was not Jimmy Durante but enjoyable. No offense, Kimmel.
-
So not only didn't John pack for me, but now he taunts me with mushroom covered pork chops
-
Is there no end to your cruelty, Sirrah?!
-
In only 5,003 posts I'll have a cool post count
-
But it will not be this day
-
Finished with Highway Patrol. One fun shot in the alley a block from the Bekins building on Santa Monica Blvd. and another nice one near Melrose - same market featured in Double Indemnity.
-
BK - That's such fun to find your old lyric that had slipped your mind but that you really like.
-
Are you sure you never recorded it, even for yourself on tape?
-
Weather stability vibes for JohnG!

Coconut key lime pudding for dessert, m’lady.

Gracias. Big, bright full moon tonight. Clear.
-
Good night, all.

I think I watched The Dancing Itos when they were originally on!
-
I‘ve been too busy swimming.
That sounds good.
-
I got home at a little before 7:00 and started watching Chris Matthews and his special, "The Deciders."
-
About a half hour into it, my power went out! :o
-
I went outside and several other people were outside and their power went out, too!
-
We chatted for a bit and figured that something happened to at least the whole complex...maybe more.
-
Eventually, I came back inside.
-
I read my Kindle for a bit, then took a little nap, and then the power came back on at about 9:00. Whew!
-
I'm now watching the rebroadcast of Chris Matthews' show.
-
In our second home in Michigan we had a furnished basement with a treadmill and large tv. Keith was on the treadmill when whatever he was watching switched to the chase. He called me downstairs and we watched together.
The sad murder took place in the alley behind my brother's street.
-
I read my Kindle for a bit, then took a little nap, and then the power came back on at about 9:00. Whew!
I have a fear of running out of power on my tablet while reading a book.
-
I think I am crashing

My Kindle had plenty of power, but my cell phone was down to about 10%!
-
I have two other cell phone batteries (I love that I can very easily switch batteries!) but one of those only had 18% (better, but it faded fast) and the other had only 3% power!
-
Fortunately, the power came back on before all of my batteries died.
-
I just got notification that my order of the original cast recording of Philemon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QWNR7FH/) has shipped and I should receive it by Wednesday!
-
It's supposed to come with Amazon's AutoRip, but one of the three comments says, "The complete album is not being downloaded. MANY tracks are repeated. There is an error in the digital album. I want a refund until it is repaired!"
:o
-
It's not yet in my Amazon music account, however.
-
I'm now watching and recording American Masters on PBS. This episode is "Terrence McNally: Every Act of Life."
-
I have tons of not identified cassettes - may be on one of them, but I kind of like the tune I wrote today. Maybe I'll post the lyric in the notes.
-
I'm thinking that milestone will happen tomorrow.
-
That's what I'm thinking.
-
I'm thinking that.
-
I have to write notes soon.
-
Soon I have to write notes.
-
But only forty postings to go.
-
Puuuuuuuuush.
-
But only forty postings to go.
You'll get there one post at a time!
-
Marin Mazzie is on the American Masters episode. It has a 2019 copyright date, so it's recent. This is definitely a keeper.
-
Well...
-
...before it's too late, since we're here...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!

:D
