Well, you've read the notes, the notes got the go-ahead, and now it is time for you to post until the go-ahead cows come home.

The movie that we watched last night was the movie musical version of Reefer Madness (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GKFUZHG/).  I was in Theater Artists Olympia's production about eight or so years ago.  A couple of people were kind of singing along. ;D

TCB, from last night's posts - "Wheelchair Haven" makes it sound like something that must be wonderful to experience!

When my mom broke her pelvis back in 2015, she was not permitted to walk on her own, and kept getting wheeled around in the rather pleasant upbeat-feeling facility (that CarePlus would only allow her coverage for 30 days in, no matter what, though!!!) -

and they made sure as part of every day that she got plenty of well-supervised exercise specifically to replace what walking would have done for her - for arms, torso, legs, just not upsetting the pelvis area which needed to repair "on its own" like a broken rib would need

T.O.D.

Too many great Gregory Peck and Gary Cooper films to name, but since I'm a Western buff, I'll leave it with THE GUNFIGHTER and THE BIG COUNTRY (Peck) and HIGH NOON (Coop).

Never a big Sharif fan, though I like DR, ZHIVAGO.

I had the pleasure of meeting Peck once.

And, since Cooper is today's topic, I might as well plug my new play, GARY COOPER AT HIGH NOON:

I've been reading Kenneth Williams' diaries, and I stayed up past midnight catching up on London theatre gossip from the late 1950s.  As a consequence, I slept in and Annabelle is now letting me know we are very very late for our patrol.

Love that word and name for the event!

We kept having to write the word out as "rose-ay" in sheet music and script when doing a piece about an over-imbibing character.
"Ro - sé" was not cutting it for singers otherwise.

The lyric is (it's not a parody project)
"Most moms help out without rose-ay.
Most Dads help out and they don't run away."

but after two times of people singing "Most Moms help out without Rose."

it was "So who is Rose?"

sort of like in GYPSY rehearsals Jerome Robbins apparently asking Sondheim "Everything's coming up Rose's what?""

Word has it Sondheim told Robbins if anyone else has that problem besides you, then we'll change it.  :)

I wonder if Larry knows whether that really happened, or just a theater urban legend.

Patrol was of very short duration. It was, I believe, our shortest.  We entered the elevator, got off on the first floor, sat down on the lobby steps, and Annabelle walked back to the elevator, insisting she wanted to go home.

I do not know. I only know Gertrude Lawrence's question about Ira's "I could wait for years / Till it appears."  Four? Why not ten or twenty?

The Robbins remark and Mr. Sondheim's reply was reported in a book I read about the creation of GYPSY.....but I don't think a source was cited....although Mr. Styne was also said to be present.

Wonderful!

That could go along with the words "How a part of me she's grown" on Maltby's lyric "Look Who's Alone Now" which (I must believe) must have slipped Maltby's mind that he should change that  before it got recorded.

begs the question: what part of him has she grown?

Waiting for the NYC Animal Concentration Camp to finish up their butchering today.  so far, two dogs have been murdered, but there are at least six more dogs condemned today, and I don't know yet who will live today and be relisted tomorrow for murder on Tuesday. Made it to the winery early, met the new panelists and we had the first panel right on time. People had great questions, there was a lot of interplay with the audience, and I didn't trip up too much trying to keep things moving.

In between the two panels, I sat out back with the winery's owner and his son, both of whom are also doctors in the same group that my diabetes doctor is in. A couple of other people joined in and we had a nice talk. There was a nice breeze and it wasn't too hot. But I could tell something was slightly off, though I couldn't put my finger on it.

Second panel actually went a little quicker than the first, but I felt I moderated it a little better, so that the talk stayed lively. And the folks seemed to enjoy themselves -- at least they said they did afterwards.

It was after the second panel that someone let me in on the gossip. The winery owner's wife, a lovely woman I've known for about 20 years now, was recently diagnosed with gastric cancer and given only a few weeks to live.

I'm sorry, Fred, but I was never able to work in the lyrics. I was able to work in mentions of all the new rose' products on the market, from vodka and vinegar to mustard and water. (Yes, rose' water. It's like the antichrist. They're turning wine into water.)

I didn't have time for dinner, but I did head out to a few hours of dancing, which was a lot of fun, but I was really tired. I barely had time to sit tonight. Joy's students are now good enough to do at least basic steps in cha-cha, rumba, swing, hustle, salsa, mambo, foxtrot, two-step, tango, merengue, bachata and now some waltz. So, somebody always wants to dance.

Made it to the winery early, met the new panelists and we had the first panel right on time. People had great questions, there was a lot of interplay with the audience, and I didn't trip up too much trying to keep things moving.

Well done.

Second panel actually went a little quicker than the first, but I felt I moderated it a little better, so that the talk stayed lively. And the folks seemed to enjoy themselves -- at least they said they did afterwards.

I am glad both panels went well.

It was after the second panel that someone let me in on the gossip. The winery owner's wife, a lovely woman I've known for about 20 years now, was recently diagnosed with gastric cancer and given only a few weeks to live.

Really sad news on what had otherwise been a good day.

I am sorry :(

Then I headed back. It was a lovely drive through the Hill Country. The spring rains have left everything lush and green, and it hasn't been too hot up there this summer.

I remember the lively drive.

And I got to listen to some more of Colson Whitehead's The Nickel Boys, which is hard-hitting but compulsive listening.

I looked it up and it seems like an interesting but hard story to read.  I do not care for Whitehead's style of writing and will pass on this one.

I'm sorry, Fred, but I was never able to work in the lyrics. I was able to work in mentions of all the new rose' products on the market, from vodka and vinegar to mustard and water. (Yes, rose' water. It's like the antichrist. They're turning wine into water.)

That's ok.  Your getting us to page 4 more than makes up for it.  :)

The stumble-through went really well - no lyric flubs at all - well, maybe one tiny one.  Cast was great, I had very few notes, we ran a couple of things and that was that.

That's great, BK!

PBS is showing its American Masters on Hal Prince through Aug. 14.

I hope it's broadcast around here.  The only episode that's coming up next according to the Comcast guide is the Ursula K. Le Guin episode.
