Title: 151%! TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!
Post by: bk on August 14, 2019, 12:20:23 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes gave 151% and went to infinity and beyond, and now it is time for you to post until the 151% cows come home.

An interesting night of sleep, in which I awoke about once every hour throughout the night. Strange. Room was comfortable, etc., but I'd wake up just enough to feel compelled to look at the clock, then I'd be back asleep after a minute or so.

And only one dream to speak of, which is trying to come into focus. Oh, right. Something about a small section of transitional music in "It Couldn't Please Me More" in which I needed to make a cut and insert a couple of bars of ... something, it gets abstract here, involving the MacBook but not using MainStage or anything like that. Weird. Bottom line, I still have the song in my head.

Okay, wait. There was something about a house, too. I think. This one's not coming into focus.

Vixmom, how scary about the choking and the need for Heimlich. And how wonderful that Vixdad could just jump in and do it.

Yes, chop those salads a little more. That one sounded good, by the way, even if you eschew (Gesundheit) tomatoes.

That makes four or five people I've known who refuse to eat tomatoes. I believe this is evidence that certain people are mutations and should be watched carefully.

I just don't  like raw tomatoes ... I don't know why.
They look so lovely on sandwiches and burgers and salads and I've tried them many times but they just taste awful raw

But broiled, or in soup or casseroles...to tomato sauce, tomatoe juice, tomato salad dressing....love them

Speaking of tomatoes, cherry tomatoes in particular, those have become a real favorite of mine. I love 'em all, but when I'm making my own salads and want some tomato in them, I've grown to prefer carefully slicing a few cherry tomatoes in half to slicing up a regular one -- unless I intend to use up the whole tomato, in which case I have to figure out the best way to preserve it (because tomatoes lose something in the fridge).

Anyhoo, my point is that for my taste, the cherry tomatoes provide the flavor and juiciness that a grape tomato doesn't. Grape tomatoes are ubiquitous these days, which probably means they're cheaper, and of course they're easy to handle, so everyone uses them as a convenient shortcut. But a cleanly halved cherry tomato (halved, because it's silly to pop the whole thing into your mouth and have to explode it in there to avoid a mess) is the best.

Jane, Laura is correct... I lost about half my salvitary glands to the radiation.

At the beginning of the treatment  were giving me a daily shot in the stomach to counteract the effect but I could not tolerate the drug in conjunction with the radiation and simultaneous chemo and they had to stop.

Small  price to pay to stay above ground but I fear I annoy people with my very slow eating and constant drinking during a meal

The faithful Thatch abandoned his place in my bed last night to play with Stella.  I always learn the source of the occasional noise I hear when I get up to feed them at 6:30.  They not only frolic, but they talk to each other.  Since Thatch was neutered at 2 months, his voice is still a kitten's, like hers, and I can't tell which of them is talking.

Annabelle stayed with me all night, and some nights she has terrible flatulence issues!

And what a great song!
I shall have to get out that Lost in Boston album.

I love that first Lost in Boston, and I like much of Lost In Boston 2.  I wish I could now rewrite several of the charts for LIB 2.   I think I was burned out by the time I finished the charts for both 1 & 2.  What's surprising is that some charts like "Take It In Your Stride," which is one of my favorites, was written very late, and I thought, I don't know what to do with this; it's going to sound like crap, while one that seemed easy, like the FANTASTICKS song "I Have Acted Like A Fool," is not nearly as good as it should be!

Nothing like a good controlled escape.

Our controlled escapes consist of taking Poe outside to sit on the back deck, always in our arms. Which he loves. He probably wouldn't try to run off and explore at his age, but we'll forever protect him from that and from our having to chase him down if he did.

Mikey, on the other hand, is a devil if he gets outside. We could probably hold him, too, for brief periods, but it's a bit of a risk that he'll jump away and go exploring under the deck or perhaps even farther from the house, and we just won't take that risk.

Some time around 1997 I was working with the Frank Loesser office, and I got to know Colin Romoff, a wonderful arranger and pianist who played rehearsal for a lot of shows.  He taught Mary Martin the score for The Sound of Music and played rehearsals for Gypsy.  I had lunch with Sid Ramin one day and I mentioned seeing Colin.  Sid told me that at Gypsy rehearsals he used to sit at the piano, and a lot of the orchestra licks in Gypsy, like the little woodwind figure in "Wherever We Go" was based on the stuff he would hear Colin making up as he played piano for the singers.

Well, I've never forgotten that advice, and much of the orchestration in every early album I did with BK was based on what he did while the singers rehearsed.  At the end of a number, I had a pretty good idea of the feel he wanted and a lot of ideas for the fills.  Later, when he was recording tons of things and time was limited, I missed those early rehearsals with the singers and BK singing next to me.

Wednesday afternoon greetings!  We are back from an early and long morning at our local hospital for my routine bi-annual cardiac stress test.  For the first time I did not walk the treadmill, but had the chemically-induced test.  It wasn’t bad and they didn’t keep me, so I guess that’s good news.  We went to Cracker Barrel for brunch and are home, ready for naps.

DR Ginny, what are the treadmill tests like? I've never had one. I always figured they "wear you out" to get you huffing and puffing -- on purpose, of course -- but how far do they really go with that?

Wednesday afternoon greetings!  We are back from an early and long morning at our local hospital for my routine bi-annual cardiac stress test.  For the first time I did not walk the treadmill, but had the chemically-induced test.  It wasn’t bad and they didn’t keep me, so I guess that’s good news.  We went to Cracker Barrel for brunch and are home, ready for naps.

DR Ginny, what are the treadmill tests like? I've never had one. I always figured they "wear you out" to get you huffing and puffing -- on purpose, of course -- but how far do they really go with that?

Yes, DR ChasSmith, the treadmill version is quite strenuous and my last one was not pretty.  I have a knee that probably would not permit me to exert myself sufficiently for them to determine my cardiac capacity.  From what the nurse told me today, I got  the impression that this is more controlled and focused and the recovery is almost instantaneous.  Best part, the antidote to the chemical was coffee (which I had not been allowed since yesterday)!

Last night was Family Night wherein family members of the cast can come and take photographs if they like and wander in and out and see a preview of the show.

This morning someone who was there last night who is definitely NOT a member of the family of ANYONE in the cast posted on Facebook how much he loved the show....it was the TECH director from Send Me No Flowers.....

He said his favorite quote was from donkey.....about how friends always forgive friends....

If he's talking about himself, he's being a jerk.....if he's talking about us, he's being premature....

Was there an explanation given as to why you had this test instead?  I believe it is more accurate, but than it has been around for awhile and could have been done before now.

I see you basically answered my question.  I should have kept reading the posts before I asked :)

I returned my new tablet today.  I double checked if I could read a book on the store sample & could not.  I am not sure why since I was able to do it with my previous tablets and knew I was ok with it.

I looked at the Kindles.  The Paperwhite did not entice me.  I liked the Kindle Oasis 2019 e-reader very much and am tempted.  I am still not sure I can bring myself to spend the money when I still need to have a tablet along with an e-reader.

I have been hovering anywhere from 195-205 for the past couple of years. This summer I've dropped to 192. I still have a way to go, but it's happening. I think the new med I'm on will help. It's the first drug with an appetite suppressant that actually has worked.

I'm home. I'm wiped out. The surgeon was running very late (2 hours) because of complications during an earlier procedure. He ran into a little surprise with me, too. Since I had local anesthesia I could hear all the conversations. But he sounded satisfied when he was done.

It was no piece of cake, but I had a good surgeon and three good, attentive nurses.

I had arranged rides to and from through my insurance. My Medicare Advantage plan gives me 12 free rides round-trip per year to doctor's appointments--a big help. But the office that arranges them closes at 5 pm. The doctor didn't get to me until maybe 4 pm. I found it rather comical that while lying on the operating table, surgery in progress, the nurses and I were coordinating with the insurance company ride department. I couldn't move, of course. They had to run interference--and they did.

Tonight we dog sat for our neighbor's Westie.  She was on her way out to dinner and he hadn't pooped on their walk.  Spur of the moment she stopped to ask if I would take him out later to avoid an accident while she was gone.  Since he walked on in when I opened the door we let him stay for a couple of hours playing and snuggling with him.  After I walked him, and he did what was needed, I took him home.

We just love that he enjoys coming for visits 😊
