Topic of the Day:  in my DVD player right now:  a DVD from the library:   Life Like (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6547786/reference).  It stars Steven Strait, who is in The Expanse (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230854/reference) TV series, as well as James D'Arcy, who played Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3475734/), also a TV series.  It's a very interesting quasi-science fiction movie and well done.  I enjoyed it.

Patrol went quite nicely.  Annabelle saw 4-5 pigeons foraging on the sidewalk out front and they kept her amused.  She enjoyed her elevator ride.  Now that I've made her vet appointment, she's perked up.  Her frantic romping and leaping with Stella this morning is working my last nerve, she's tossed my keys off the table and three cans of Fancy Feast off a shelf.

Birdy Barnum had quite an adventure last night.

I got home about 11:45 p.m. I walked into his room where I leave a light and television on for him....and he was sitting on TOP of his cage....

I closed the door to the room and got a handkerchief.  When I tried to pick him up, he flapped and eventually dropped down behind the desk where his cage is.  I pulled the drawer unit out and he was standing there....

Eventually he took off again and landed on the floor.  I dropped the hanky over him, picked him up and put him back in his cage.

On examination, he had lifted the door by his food cup and it had caught on his new treat cup and stayed about halfway open.

He had thrown EVERYTHING out of the food cup onto the floor - nuts, pumpkin seeds, and dried apricots.

As far as I know he didn't leave his room.  I took the treat cup out for good!  And I will use bread ties on his doors for awhile.

The kindle oasis is the king of all kindles. Everybody I know who has one is completely obsessed.  This would be my #1 choice for a new kindle.

Jane since you are an avid reader I really think that you should consider an e-reader only. You will be less distracted by not having the internet options. And you will get used to it very quickly. Just think of it as having a book. You can't use the internet in your book.  But my main reason for recommending this is because of what you said about headaches. I have heard so many people complain of eye strain when using an ipad or tablet.  I get headaches very often. And have never had one from reading on my kindle.

I read a lot of historical novels and really enjoy the ability of searching for information at times.  Before I had a tablet I kept a pen & paper next to my bed to takes notes.  I realuze I can do that with the Oasis, howver, once my curiosity is satisfied I can immediately return to the book or go to sleep without thinking about it.

That Oasis is truly tempting.

Tomorrow the three New York Animal Care Centers have  an adoption day with waived adoption fees for all animals.  Much as I want to go, I know if I do I'll come home with a dog or another cat.  At the moment there are 102 dogs up for adoption at the Manhattan shelter.  I have never seen, in two years of observing daily the adoption lists, that high a number, and I must admit i have a huge crush on little Chance:

My cardiologist’s office called to summon me in for him to discuss Wednesday’s stress test.  We’re watching an arterial blockage that presents “moderate” risk.  Instead of an immediate angiogram (which presents its own level of risk) I will see Dr. Brown again in 3 months and revisit the issue.

I highlight and type notes on my kindle all the time. I hate it when I am reading a physical book and have to jot down notes on paper.

I've never wanted to look something up while reading. But with my kindle it gives me the definition of words if I'm not sure of something.

DR Jennifer a tablet lets you read the definition & also has an option to go to Wikipedia.   I liked the note option on the Oasis.  Since I only take notes when I am reading a book for a discussion, I just begin an email draft & write my thoughts there.  Once I finish my book I do some research using my computer and add more info to my email draft by copying & pasting.

TOD:

I'll be giving INSPECTOR MONTALBANO a try. I tried reading one of the books several years ago, but just couldn't stay with it. I suspect a poor translation.

Yay for comfort.

And yay for shower.

Had a nice lunch, picked up one package, came home, had the visitor, moved some stuff from the house to the garage, had to turn on the AC, and am now listening to music - ninety minutes until the work session.

Vibes DR Ginny.

Was this found because you changed the test to the chemically-induced one?

It would probably have been found either way, DR Jane.  Thanks for the vibes!

:(  I understand that.  My mother died shortly before our anniversary and I was in L.A. without Keith on our anniversary.  For years it was easier if we could go someplace for our anniversary than when we were home.  I hope next year will be better for him.

We also saw Vixters good friend Nick who works there.  They've known each other since kindergarten and held a joint high school graduation party .  We last saw him in Florida since he flew down to be part of the wedding party as he and Vixhusband have been friends since high school

We found he has been promoted to a managerial position so that was quite nice.

So, I can go in and review it? I couldn't find it the other day on Amazon.

BK’s code will allow you to download it from Audible for free. I installed the Audible app on my iPad and sent it there. At the end of the book there will be a link for reviewing it. My review for Magic Castle took, what, about a day? — then appeared on the Audible site, not Amazon, even though it looked like it would go there too. It’s a bit confusing.

I’ve downloaded GEE and will be listening to it tomorrow. I sampled the first few paragraphs and Canova sounds great.

More Stokowski Phase 4 recordings.  The engineers of these sometimes pushed the level so much that they got lovely distortion from certain mics - everything on these albums was close miked so you have to be careful especially with the brass.  The surprise is that apparently they either didn't hear the distortion, they didn't care about it, or they didn't have time to fix it.  It especially affects Scheherazade, but most of the second and third albums are fine.
