Well, you've read the notes, the notes went to infinity and beyond, and now it is time for you to post until the infinity cows come home.

Tom, vegan crumbles can be made with textured vegetable protein, or soy protein and wheat gluten...along with other ingredients, of course.

Today, I'm taking the day off from work.  It's my dad's 81st birthday and we're all going to go to my parents' house to celebrate.
Title: Re: 173% - TO INFINITY AND BEYOND
Post by: George on August 20, 2019, 12:58:57 AM
Originally, I took the day off because my mom bought my dad a new (to them) desk from a friend if hers for my dad's library and we were all going to take out his old desk, clean up things, then bring in the new-ish desk.  But my dad fell down yesterday and isn't feeling too well, so we'll switch the desks some other time, maybe sometime next week.  But I'm still taking the day off because I have the time, and I just want to.  So, we're all going to my parents' tonight and just celebrate his birthday with dinner and a cake. :)

Another night of several awakenings, culminating in a bizarre dream in which the Danbury Symphony was holding a special event for pianists. The fifty or so pianos were set up, and everyone at all levels who wanted to come and sightread and play along in the Tchaikovsky concerto was welcome. At one moment I was half tempted, and since the event wasn’t to start until noon, I had plenty of time to get there. In the next moment I knew I couldn’t get through one page of that, not even faking it. Another good one to just wake the HELL up from and try to shake it off.

2010 would be great for me too!  The years of cyberstalking started by Encores' and Broadway Cares' videographer Jonathan Frank weren't until middle of February 2011, and I'd know from this vantage point that Skip asking quietly for some  help from the  truth-challenged Jack  Viertel would be a bad idea, and I would have gotten the police involved right away.

And he's a fool too. Devalues a work that people keep asking to do.  He gave an interview a few months ago

https://www.commercialtheaterinstitute.com/broadway-profiles-a-serial-interview-with-jack-viertel-part-four/

From that interview:

What would you classify as the biggest mistake you’ve ever made?

Dramaturgically, the biggest mistake I ever made was trying to produce a show with a passive hero.  The best example of this was in Time and Again, which is a novel that has many attractive things about it.  It’s a wonderful book that is not meant to be a musical for the most basic reason, which is that it has a passive hero.  We could never get it off the ground.  Of course, there were other design-related issues, but the fundamental problem was that I couldn’t devise a way to get an audience interested in the protagonist.  That was the most important dramaturgical mistake that I ever made.

So he was asked about mistakes he had made.  And he said the biggest mistake he veer made was trying to write a show about a passive hero.  But - What show was he working on - By  15 minutes into the show, the very show the jackass himself wrote, the character becomes (maybe too) active in the new old time.  Whether that's a good idea as a take on the material, that being in the past makes him active,  can be debated - but did he even sit through his own show?

 The show with a passive hero was never the libretto he wrote.  Yutz to the nth degree.

I'd asked the salad bar I frequent to stock vegan ice cream and gave them my favorite brand. They responded with a different brand, but it's still good. But Reishi Chocolate? Mushroom chocolate? Doesn't sound very appetizing, but I tried it today and it wasn't bad. No taste of mushroom that I could detect.

Yes, water classes are easier on your body because the water supports your weight.

During a portion of the class we use water weights.  I am still deciding which ones I want to buy.  I have tried a couple of the lighter weights people use.  I am a bit hesitant to get them at all.  My right shoulder hurts with them & it is somewhat unbalanced to use only one weight.

Thanks, Larry!  My dad was pretty tired from yesterday, but for the most part it was a pretty good day.

X-rays accomplished.  The entire shebang and bus rides took me about 90 minutes.  Tomorrow I may spend the day at City Center with Joshie.  I need to call him and confirm.
Good test result vibes!

~~~Ditto!!~~~
And he's a fool too. Devalues a work that people keep asking to do.  He gave an interview a few months ago
https://www.commercialtheaterinstitute.com/broadway-profiles-a-serial-interview-with-jack-viertel-part-four/
From that interview:
What would you classify as the biggest mistake you’ve ever made?
Dramaturgically, the biggest mistake I ever made was trying to produce a show with a passive hero.  The best example of this was in Time and Again, which is a novel that has many attractive things about it.  It’s a wonderful book that is not meant to be a musical for the most basic reason, which is that it has a passive hero.  We could never get it off the ground.  Of course, there were other design-related issues, but the fundamental problem was that I couldn’t devise a way to get an audience interested in the protagonist.  That was the most important dramaturgical mistake that I ever made.
So he was asked about mistakes he had made.  And he said the biggest mistake he veer made was trying to write a show about a passive hero.  But - What show was he working on - By  15 minutes into the show, the very show the jackass himself wrote, the character becomes (maybe too) active in the new old time.  Whether that's a good idea as a take on the material, that being in the past makes him active,  can be debated - but did he even sit through his own show?
 The show with a passive hero was never the libretto he wrote.  Yutz to the nth degree.
You know very well how I feel about Mr. Viertel.  He's an ASS.  Everything wrong with Time and Again was him.  Skip could have fixed the opening number (I still have my notes on it and they are exactly right) easily had Mr. Viertel been a writer.  He's a no-talent hack who has spent his life when he was a dramaturg telling others how to "fix" their work, and badly so - and then when he writes the book of a musical he won't listen to ANYONE because of his sickening ego.  That should could have been a huge hit - but not with him as writer, EVER.
Back from a great dinner at the Smoke House and then sitting through a presentation of an excruciating one person show called Barrymore, written by William Luce - nicely written, too - the actor who played it had all his friends there standing up at the end of the show, but I'm afraid this guy is a bad, bad actor.  He did Deathtrap there and singlehandedly turned that show into a disaster.
