Title: LEAVE IT TO BEAVER
Post by: bk on October 04, 2019, 12:14:15 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the man who came to dinner, and now it is time for you to post until the cows who came to dinner come home.

I didn't see it.  Olympia Little Theatre did a staged reading and I saw that, but not that production. :-\

This weekend here in Olympia is the fall Arts Walk (http://olympiawa.gov/city-services/parks/artswalk.aspx).  I'm working concessions both tomorrow night and Saturday afternoon.  It'll be so easy, really isn't an event at the WCPA, just the viewing of the artwork that's hung all over the lobby. :)

BK wrote:  "We will find the culprits and they will be put in the corner and quietly flogged, like Judge Turpin."

Who the culprits are people who didn't;lt show up to do something rather than anyone who actually did something, it makes me think of what Sam Goldwyn said "If the crowds  don't want to  come, ya can't make 'em."

But I think here,  see more longer, thoughtful posts, which can be done here but not on places like facebook - so history will value a place like HHW when facebook had gone the way of being broken ups by the Elizabeth Warren Commission.  As much as we all adored the fuzzy early impression of Mark Zuckerberg, especially as he was played by Jesse Eisenberg in that movie - we're getting a batter sense that there's a real Max Bialystock there that was hidden from us, or perhaps wasn't;t there as Facebook grew.  It's feeling like AT&T, which got so big and grabby by the 1980s, that it had to be broken up.

I won't even bother to try to correct the typos in that last post. (Some are spellcheck playing games, but some were mistakes.  :).

We hear revelations like: Weeeell, it's not so clear that the Russians who were saying things in 2016 were pretending not to be Russian.  That a lot of those who were supposedly pretending not to be Russian were paying their Facebook accounts in the Russian currency.  facebook knew they were Russian, just didn't notice, OR didn't say a thing. The story goes that  THEY were voicing their opinion like we in the U.S. voice our opinions about France, Germany, Japan, etc.   that Facebook gad all it needed to know they were Russian as they were stating this stuff.

Hearing the Facebook powers talk now, that seems plausible.

Google and YouTube though has lots of competition.  And they all seem to thrive by people having more places to put their stuff.

And that's my legal education seminar on Antitrust.  :)  it just gets me bothered when YouTube is lumped with Facebook and Twitter.

Last night was a pretty good night of sleep.  I slept until 12:15 or so, then took the second Advil PM and slept until 5:00.  By 6:15 I was eager to get up and feed the cats.  I did go back to bed until 7:15, but I feel quite rested today.  Yesterday, I was completely lethargic after therapy.

BK:  I know Jim Beaver.  He's a terrific actor.  Saw him with Bridget Hanley in THE LION IN WINTER.

He was also on DEADWOOD for awhile.

Indeed, like you, when I was clearing stuff out prior to my move to Austin, he came by and purchased a lot of DVDs from me.

Please say "hello" to him for me.

T.O.D.

The day before yesterday, I received a review copy of DVD box set of 4 films directed by Ida Lupino.

I've watch 2 of them, and will watch the other 2 (i.e. THE HITCH-HIKER and THE BIGAMIST) this weekend.

Jim Beaver is an EXPERT on George Reeves & SUPERMAN THE original SERIES.

He used to be on those Mystery Shows all the time when they were talking about Reeves' murder/suicide.

He was very good on Supernatural, but the show went in a different direction a few seasons ago and sidelined his character in favor of a lot of useless untalented women whose accents were a Cook's Tour of the continent - all in the same episode.

He was also very good in DEADWOOD which I highly recommend to the populace.  I think there are a few seasons available out there.

He will make a terrific Sheridan Whiteside.

My!  Annabelle sure has changed since the last picture that you posted! ;)

:))

Maybe Annabelle's as good an actress as she says she is.

I saw the optometrist the other day. The doctor I REALLY need to see is the ophthalmologist, but my appointment's not until the end of November--earliest I could get. I was due for an eye exam anyway and could get in quickly with the optometrist.

Last year I booked with Dr A (optometrist), but when I arrived learned that Dr B would be doing my exam. I was a bit annoyed, as Dr A is much more experienced and I had specifically booked with her. As it turned out, I liked Dr B very much. This year (last week) I specifically booked with Dr B. But Dr A, who is the owner of the business, did my exam. I know she's experienced and competent, but I don't like this! I told her what had happened. She didn't give me a direct answer, just said that was kind of the way they did things. I can't believe that other patients don't have preferences, too, and would like them honored. I didn't just ask for the next available appointment. Sigh.

I have now seen three different doctors about the problem with my right eye. Of course, I've had three different explanations. Part of the problem is terminology. This week's doctor--Dr A--is familiar with the floater pellets I've been using. She thinks very highly of Natural Ophthalmics' products, as I do, and sells several of them. I will probably need to have another procedure done to one or both eyes, but given how booked up the ophthalmologist is, it probably won't be until after the first of the year. Thankfully, the floater pellets help in the meantime--and I hope they continue to do so.

I'm having a pair of computer glasses made and asked for the blue-light coating. A friend mentioned the other day that he finds computer glasses very helpful and RAVED about the blue-light protection. Dr A asked if I have trouble falling asleep (sometimes) or wake up in the middle of the night (frequently). She said that her patients that have gotten the blue-light coating say how much better they're sleeping! Spending a lot of time on the computer puts a strain on our eyes and messes with our sleep cycle. I'm hoping to have the new glasses by the end of next week.

Does anyone here watch THE GOOD FIGHT? I just finished season 3. Very clever, but also very dark. Definitely a cliffhanger.

Tom thanks for the info on the shooting :(

DR Jane, on the news report we heard they said Vancouver is about an hour north of Portland.  It’s not really that far, is it?

Well, if traffic is moving we are 10 minutes over the bridge, 20 into downtown Portland.  Downtown Vancouver where the shooting was is about the same distance away that we are.

Thanks for the geography lesson!  They could use you at NBC.

:D

I expect in traffic it can take an hour to get from the farthest end of Portland to the other end on Vancouver ;)

One of the stops was the church built by our shared ancester.  She arranged for the church warden to talk to us about the history of the church.  The original chuch was too small.  The committee to improve the situation couldn't agree what to do about it until our ancester had a dream that he needed to rebuild it, and he did.

He hired the best church architect and then paid for the reconstruction of the new, larger, beautiful church.

Several ancesters are burried in the church she attends so we spent a good amount of time there.  Our tour even included going up the bell tower.

Had a fun lunch with David Wechter - some jernt called the Black Bear Diner - formerly Coco's.  In truth, it wasn't very good.  I had their "light" version of chicken fried steak - five ounces rather than ten - five was plenty and only six hundred calories.  We had fun chatting and catching up.

Then I went to the used CD store nearby - not much of there - got a couple of three dollar CDs just to hear and maybe expand my musical horizons - discs of Bach, who I have enjoyed in the past.

Once home, I had a ton of e-mails to read and respond to, which I did.  Doug had told the actor we didn't end up using we'd gone a different way and why - and he wasn't so happy, even though a lot of our decision had to do with one conflict we couldn't live with, and the fact that he told us his agent was against him doing it and was going to work extra hard to get him a job, which means if that happened, we'd be looking for a new actor.  We simply couldn't take that kind of a chance.  Barry Pearl, who's good friends with him, had a talk and I think all is okay now.

Then I watched the final two episodes of Chernobyl - it was very powerful, occasionally hard to watch, but like most of these things, it seemed too long for its own good, but clearly they wanted to have five hours so there's some unnecessary repetition.  The acting was terrific, and the writing mostly terrific with a few clunky passages.  The direction was fine and the Blu-ray looks very good.  The one big no for me was the score, which is more sound design than music - yes, there's some of the usual choral dirge stuff, maybe five minutes - the rest is just noise, really, and not my cuppa.  If you like this sort of drama it comes highly recommended.

I would like to that kind of trip.  My ancestors lived on Church Farm in Slapton, Buckinghamshire from 1066 to 1974 when the last owner died without an heir.  I would love to see the area and cemetery.
