Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the mystery of the taquitos, and now it is time for you to post until the mystery cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INCORRIGIBLE!
-
And now - Dino at the taquito - oops, piano.
-
From last night:
My condolences to your niece.
Thanks, jan.
-
Bruce, you say in the notes that you are 96, not Scotty Bowers.
-
Bruce, you say in the notes that you are 96, not Scotty Bowers.
And that you died at 96! :o
-
Well, I was checking my e-mails (I have seven), and the one that I use exclusively for my bills had a dozen new, unread e-mails. :o I was afraid that I got hit with a bunch of spam (I rarely get spam on this e-mail address), but fortunately it was all good. Whew!
-
And now, I need to go to bed. I need to get to work a half hour earlier than I usually do because I have to be at a meeting.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good night, George
-
Have a good day all.
-
Bruce, you say in the notes that you are 96, not Scotty Bowers.

I don't know WHAT you people are talking about.

Gaslight.

Listening to interesting music by Gail Kubick (a guy). He wrote quite a few film scores in his day, plus classical. He wrote a score for the Bogart film, The Desperate Hours - it was mostly thrown out and replaced by some Daniel Amfitheatrof and Victor Young music. So, he fashioned it into an orchestral piece, which I found.
-
Good morning
-
I have no idea what a tacquito is
-
I have lived a very sheltered life
-
It took a HHW get together for me to finally have an enchilada
-
My best friend from Michigan arrived Sunday night
-
She and her husband are staying at my moms house
-
Sunday night we went out to an Irish themed pub and had sauerbraten
-
That was a mistake...it was an Oktoberfest specialbut we would have been better off with one of their regular Irish dishes
-
But we had a fine time anyway
-
Yesterday all 5 spent he morning hanging out at moms and talking and then all of us went to lunch at the diner
-
Then vixdad went home , we dropped Mom home and my BZf her husband and I drove in to flushing meadows to meet someone at the unisphere
-
That’s the big globe statue from the 1964/65 NY worlds fair
-
Good morning, all!
-
I don't believe I've ever heard of a taquito, and I love Mexican food.
-
BF has been busy with genealogy investigation and discovered a distant cousin through a mutual great great grandfather
-
The cousin lives in Boston but her family happened to be in NY this weekend for college tours for their high school daughter
-
My BF lives in Michigan
-
So we had a nice visit with the cousin and then headed back home
-
I do not go back to City Center until Thursday, so I have two days to grind out major chunks of this overture, My goal is to finish it by Sunday, Monday at the latest, and send a scan to London.
-
In the evening vixdad joined us again and we went to meet BFs nephew and wife for dinner at a Smokey Bones
-
We had a quite a good time
-
Then we came home to discover our washing machine had died
-
It is 28 years old and has provided good service
-
Vixdad says the gear box is shot and beyond his ability to repair
-
I am quite saddened since I know the new machines are not as well made and ridiculously expensive
-
Vibes fir everyone
-
I have not caught up
-
BF will be here until Thursday morning so between work and visiting and looking for new washer I may not be around
-
Laters
-
Good morning, all.

Sometimes the mystery of taquitos is simply “is there anything in these?” Because if it’s a store bought or cheaper variety, they can seem awfully small and not too generously filled. But a couple of years ago one brand in the frozen snacks department caught my eye, and I did a quick fry in oil, in a pan (not deep fried), and they were delicious.
BK is right, we don’t often think of taquitos, or bother getting them if we do. But they can be very tasty. And addictive. Because they’re small, and if you have a bunch of them at home, they just keep going into that fry pan so easily. And do take the trouble to do the oil thing rather than just nuking them. It only takes another minute and it makes a huge difference.
-
I have much to do in music editing today (like, who do I think I am? - DR Elmore?), so I will be back this evening. Have a good day, and vibes for all!
-
Condolences to DR George & his niece on having to say goodbye to Nessa.
-
Bruce the nest taquitos are at Olvera Street. As you walk in the north entrance, just on the left is CiIelito Lindo. In front of the restaurant you can buy taquitos to go. They are served with a delicious thin avacado sauce I have not found duplicated anywhere else. I have had other thin sauces/dips but found them to be lacking in flavor.
-
Open this for photos of the best ever taquitos.

TOD:
I've only had frozen taquitos. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, so I usually get chicken fajitas when I'm in a Mexican restaurant. And I substitute the disgusting refried beans with more rice.
-
George, I'm so sorry about Nessa.
-
Unlike Bruce or DR Chas I often think of taquitos and always check the menu for them at Mexican restaurants. My difficulty now is finding vegetarian taquitos. There is a restaurant near us that will make me black bean taquitos.

Ask for whole black beans.
-
The owner of an excellent Mexican restaurant in Ashland surprised me with fried black bean one day. They were delicious and not at all greesy like regualar refried beans.
-
Good morning.
-
I have a lot to do today. I need to get busy. But I am sitting around.
-
I too have only had the frozen type taquito....but it was nice....I don't remember the brand....
-
I like tacos - but that may not be a REAL Mexican dish.....
-
Sorry to hear about Nessa.

DR VIXMOM - Lowe's has some nice washers that are not EXPENSIVE.....and they take your old one away. I think it costs $15.... I bought the Roper washer.....it was $299 and it seems to be doing all right after several years.
I did get the matching dryer that I had to replace....so I bought a more expensive one.
AND check the scratch and dent section.....my dryer had a dent in the bottom and it was $200 off! Warranty is still good on those appliances.
-
Best Buy might have similar options, including purchasing the dented or scratched floor models discounted.
-
I set up for tonight's gathering. I had kept back a pan and a half of brownies from the funeral. So I'll bake some cookies and a cake and call it good. I also made hummus and baked corn tortillas for the vegans.

I’m on a quick break, so, a little ketchup.
We have a whole scratch and dent store here that carries all brands, and we’re delighted with the fridge we bought there a few years back.
But here’s what to watch for — scratches and dents are fine, but go over it carefully to make sure the damage isn’t something like a loose knob or switch or control panel, anything like that. Otherwise, enjoy the steep discount!
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Those taquito photos look exactly like what I used to have regularly - but I never went to Olvera Street back then, so we must have had a jernt near us where I could get them.

Back then I only got them at Olvera Street. I don't remember Rabozo's having them.

Tuesday afternoon greetings from Cumberland, Maryland! We had a smooth drive and are now settled into the same hotel we stayed in on June 19.
-
DR ChasSmith, there’s a lot of construction on Interstate 70 between Pittsburgh and Wheeling. In West Virginia, our eastbound traffic was slow, but westbound was at a standstill. We’d already decided to go home a different way on Saturday, but I thought you’d want to know.
-
Bruce, you say in the notes that you are 96, not Scotty Bowers.

What?? ??? Well, I could've sworn....

Well, guess what! Ben Bagley’s Contemporary Broadway Revisited (http://www.kritzerland.com/contemp_bway.htm) and New York Profiles - The Music of Norman Dello Joio (http://www.kritzerland.com/nyProfiles.htm) have arrived in Tumwater!
-
I think I've solved the mystery of the taquitos - In 1977 I lived in Valley Village (then North Hollywood) - we had a little Mexican jernt just four blocks away - I drove by it today and I'm guessing that's where I had them regularly, because we went there often.
-
Back from picking up packages, an important envelope, banking, and grabbing food at McDonald's, as I just wanted something quick and easy.

I am sorry I never ate there.
-
Moving around the country I discovered not all taquitos were tightly rolled, and too my surprise were still good. They were just a bit different.
-
I don't believe I've ever heard of a taquito, and I love Mexican food.
They're not "real" Mexican food...just a Mexican-inspired creation created here in the states (https://www.buzzfeed.com/conzpreti/dishes-that-are-not-really-mexican)...like so many other delicious foodstuffs.

Oh, no! :(
-

Wow! 28 years is a good long run for a washing machine. Mine is going on 13, and my car is over 21! ;D
-
I'm hoping my car lasts until I pay off my mortgage, which should be in about 2 1/2 years.
-
Condolences to DR George & his niece on having to say goodbye to Nessa.
Thanks, Jane.

George, I'm so sorry about Nessa.
Thanks, Fred.

Thanks, Jack.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I've hardly stopped for several days. Yesterday I didn't eat breakfast until noon, and today it was 12:45. It's amazing how much needs to be done just to have a few days free!
-
I'm scheduled for surgery on Thursday, will text BK once I'm coherent enough to do so, and then will need a few days or so to recuperate. I'll post as I can.
-
R.I.P. Nessa.
-
R.I.P. Vixmom's washer.
As DR George said, 28 years is a LONG life for a washer.
-
Vibes that Vixmom finds a new washer that she's happy with and also has a long life.
(Both Vixmom and her washer.)
-
I don't think I've ever eaten taquitos. I like veggie tacos and cheese enchiladas. Very much. With sour cream and guacamole. Yum.
-
And now - Dino at the taquito - oops, piano.
Dino at the piano eating taquitos.
-
Back from picking up packages, an important envelope, banking, and grabbing food at McDonald's, as I just wanted something quick and easy.
What? No taquitos?
-
We walked along the canal towpath, which is now a bike trail, to The Crabby Pig for a delightful outdoor dinner. I had clam strips and a garden salad - yum!
-
Travel vibes to DR Ginny for a continued good trip.
-
TTFN.

Travel vibes to DR Ginny for a continued good trip.
Thanks, DR Jeanne. Clergy meetings for Richard in Leesburg, VA. I’m just along to navigate and enjoy the fall foliage.
Surgery and recovery vibes to you!

R.I.P. Nessa.
Thanks, Jeanne.

I am impressed with 13 years. Due to moves I have had to leave some behind. Ten might have been the longest we had a washer & dryer set. I really can't remember.
-
I'm hoping my car lasts until I pay off my mortgage, which should be in about 2 1/2 years.
Vibes it lasts that long.

Well, this is pretty cool...I wonder if Richard Sherman has seen this video: Small World Magic in 2 minutes! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy-F4mronfY)! :D
-
Gratuitous Post #100!
-
I used to make tacos & cheese enchiladas at home rather often when the boys were young. For the tacos I would do a lazy susan of different fillers for the home made taco shells. Scrambled eggs made a nice substitute for meat.
-
And now, I must be off. I'm going to my sister's to staple some plastic sheeting onto her new chicken shelter.
Be back later.

Good evening, all.
-
I have finally made it home. The last leg of the trip, from Houston to San Antonio, was the worst. Though the flight was only 35 minutes long, it felt like it was several hours long and the turbulence was so great that I flew up off my seat a couple of times.
-
But I'm here. I've had dinner. And I'm trying not to fall asleep too early.
-
Vibes for Jeanne.

OMG, how do you fly off of your seat when wearing a seat belt? I would have probably thrown up.
-
Welcome home DR John.
-
TOD:
Taquitos are called flautas here. They come with chicken in them that had been boiled for the caldo. They're wonderful hot out of the fryer with guac and/or sour cream melted on top.
What we call taquitos here are Mexican street tacos, the small tacos on miniature corn tortillas. I love those with pork al pastor with the pineapple juice melted into the meat. Top with plenty of cilantro, onion and radish, add a charred jalapeno and you got some good eats.

The air conditioner didn't seem to work, so it was blowing mostly hot air through the whole flight. Plus, heat was coming up from below. I felt sick before the turbulence. Thankfully, everyone was laughing about it. But, yes, the seat belt was slightly loose, so I had room to fly.
-
Welcome home DR John.
\
And thank you.

Watched a couple of good movies on the plane today:
Britt-Marie Was Here, which is also one of the books I'm reading now (the movie is faithful in the right ways and Pernilla August is excellent in the lead role)
Yesterday, which was surprisingly good and made good use of the Beatles' music.
-
Right now I'm watching the rather perverse Golden Earrings with Marlene Dietrich and Ray Milland.

I ate those in San Antonio and forgot about the different name.

I pass on sour cream for all of my Mexican food.

Yes. From the man who wrote A Man Called Ove. Very much in that vein.

Five!

Thanks. It looked like a feel good movie.

Thunderstorm happening outside, and rain is falling. Plants should be happy.

Good night, all.

Thank you for the heads up, DR Ginny. I’d pretty much decided to take the I-80 route this time. Of course there could be delays there, too. That’s always a gamble.
-
Right now I’d kill for a plate of taquitos. ANY KIND. Damn it.
-
Back from picking up packages, an important envelope, banking, and grabbing food at McDonald's, as I just wanted something quick and easy.
What? No taquitos?
Not the same jernt anymore - I made that mistake, actually, about eight years ago, thinking it was the same - got food poisoning.
-
Listening to music.
-
But it’s the witching hour (whatever in the HELL that is), so I must be going.
-
Had six taquitos - good. Probably should have stopped at three, but they're very small.
-
Still, I should have stopped at three. But they're very small.

From my various music finds recently and rummaging in the garage, I have two new releases we can do - classical music by film composers.

The two composers are off the beaten path - but I like them both.

We were on page five two HOURS ago.

Two HOURS ago, do you hear me?
-
I gotta tell you.

We were on page five two HOURS ago.
Well, better than still being on page 3 at 10:00. ::)

-
I'm up late tonight, unwinding from the hostessing duties of this evening.
-
Tonight after leaving my sister's, I was in the mood for a diet Pepsi because I don't have any at home, so I decided to go to the 7-Eleven a block from my condo complex and get a Super Big Gulp.
-
I save my cup and refills cost less!
-
Anyway, I saw that they had taquitos!
-
They cost $1.49 each, or three for $3.00, so I got three.
-
They were pretty good...not absolutely freshly cooked, but still quite tasty.
-
And here's a picture:
-
And here's another picture after taking a bite:
-
Oh, look! It's Page Six!
-
Might have to try them taquitos.
-
I do like that it was the taquito that took us to page six.
-
Listening to an interesting French composer named Jean Rivier. I had some concerto by him that I enjoyed, so I've found several of his symphonies.
-
I do like that it was the taquito that took us to page six.
7-Eleven's website menu (https://www.7-eleven.com/hot-foods) lists four different kinds of taquitos, but I only saw two kinds at my local 7-Eleven: the Monterey Jack Taquito and the Taco & Cheese Taquito.
-
I just watched Lin-Manuel Miranda and the cast of Freestyle Love Supreme on The Tonight Show from October 1st. I really like improvisational comedy but I'm not so sure about a whole Broadway show of improvisational rapping. ::)
-
Now, I'm watching Ben Platt on The Late Late Show with James Corden from October 7th. He's performing a song from his debut album.
-
Good evening.
-
Thank you all for the evening off.
-
I guess my threat of no more long trips scared John into posting.
-
Open this for photos of the best ever taquitos.
