Well, you've read the notes, the notes were slightly off, and now it is time for you to post until the slightly off cows come home.

Just got an e-mail and just from it's header I knew it was one I did not want to read.  My friend Alan Abelew has passed away.  No, we didn't really have much communication since the late 1980s, but he was one of my best friends from before LACC all through the seventies and eighties.  I put him in every show I did and, of course, he created the role of George Brenner in The First Nudie Musical, which was a variation of the character I wrote for him in my musical Feast.  He was in all the evenings I did of my songs, he was in Stages and Together Again, and he's in The Creature Wasn't Nice in the Dirty Harry Strikes Back sequence.  He came in to do the Nudie documentary that Nick Redman directed, which is really the last time I saw him - I may have run into him somewhere after that, but only briefly, like in a restaurant.  Cancer.

I slept poorly last night, and I would kill to have another night like the one three nights ago.  I was up and down too often with leg pains, restlessness, sleeplessness, and inability to get comfortable.

Kitty cleanup went very badly.  The litter is heavy and I spilled a large amount onto the litter pads after I had sifted it.  This necessitated getting out the dustbuster, sweeping it all up, and working around curious Stella and Annabelle who want to know everything.  Thatch very smartly stays out of the way.

Our THAT rehearsal was Wednesday a week and a half ago. Some of the costumes were donned, mock-up lighting was employed, and the photographer was there for the first hour doing what photographers do. When he left, we started our piano run-through, and it was apparent in the opening number (and I include mine own self in this judgment) that it was THAT one. The evening was not unpleasant, it was just a quietly degrading form of Hell.

Today, last minute preparations for our coming sh- weather. We have to install the reflectors along a couple of sections of the driveway, an annoying task in the rocky soil in these parts. We have to fill the sand and salt buckets with (you guessed it) sand and salt, and set them out in their customary places, also no small task because they weigh about 50 pounds each. I have to make sure the snowblower is fueled and run it for a few minutes, and check the supplies of gas and oil. I could go on...

I enjoyed KINKY BOOTS last night - except of course for the pledge drives - everyone was very talented and sang well.

The songs are more POP songs than Broadway type songs, I guess...with a LOT of repeated choruses....and strangely enough when the lyrics were repeated - oftentimes so was the choreography....

But that's the way it goes, I guess.....

I asked my London conductor friend how the copying of that Holiday Overture was going, since I believe their first holiday performance is in another week.  Her just wrote back:
I haven’t quite finished it; probably Monday I think.  It’s really lovely and fun and does everything and more that a Theatrical Christmas Overture should.
The first concert is about a week and a half I think. Will check and let you know.

Done with the outdoors prep.

AND.......our tech Sunday is cancelled due to weather. We'll have to pull the show together on Monday, Tuesday, and the now-reinstated Wednesday night without one cast member (the reason it wasn't scheduled in the first place). Thank the goddesses for the Thursday preview (which will be packed -- this theater opens it to seniors only, for free), because they need to be in front of that audience before opening on Friday.

This happened to us once before, at the same theater in Jan. or Feb. of 2006 when a significant snowstorm wiped out our tech Sunday for THE LAST 5 YEARS. Good thing it was that show, and nothing big. The tech session was fairly easily folded into Monday night, and we didn't really feel an impact at all that time.

In the "it never ends" department, our set designer, who also is our Beverley Carlton, went to the hospital this morning with chest pains.  They've been running tests and so far think it's just a muscle thing.  We don't know if he'll be back in time for our afternoon run-through at three but will most likely be there for the evening run.  We do have our lighting guy who could read it, but that's kind of dopey, so I will probably spend the afternoon doing a cue-to-cue mostly for sound since there are only ten light cues, and then cleaning up sloppy stuff.

I'm getting really excited for this Friday's release of the 2017 Encores! cast recording of Cole Porter's "The New Yorkers."

The orchestrations were written by Josh Clayton and myself, some individually and some together.  Josh and I agreed to claim only one orchestration and let everything else be a collaboration, and the orchestration he claims is glorious.

But I'll let him tell.

I always thought the point of those musical numbers  was to entice people to the theatre by giving a preview of the show.  I found the lyric changes off putting...

And now, I must be off to my sister's.  If there's time after fixing her lights and before I have to usher, I might go shopping for a new beard trimmer.  The one that I've had for at least 15 years is crapping out on me, and I'm sure it's not worth it to try and get it fixed. :-\ I might look on-line first.  We'll see.

Be back later.

Keith recently purchased a WAHL trimmer online and loves it.

The orchestrations were written by Josh Clayton and myself, some individually and some together.  Josh and I agreed to claim only one orchestration and let everything else be a collaboration, and the orchestration he claims is glorious.

But I'll let him tell.

Today I started listening to Find Me, Andre Aciman's sequel to Call Me by Your Name. It's read by Michael Stuhlbarg, who played the father in the film. And the novel starts with the father, who meets a young woman on a train to Rome.

I talked with my mom and my sister, Annaliese. Dad was dehydrated and probably sick with a virus, which is why he was admitted to the hospital. They've got him on liquids. One doctor tried to release him yesterday, but the nurses said he wasn't ready and they refused to send him home.

This is Keith's first trimmer.  Too bad he didn't get one years ago.  He purchased it as Craig had grown & beard & was about to shave it off.  Keith found the trimmer to encourage Craig to keep his beard, just trim it up nicely.  Then Keith decided he should get himself one.  He actually used his before Craig used the trimmer as, not knowing it was in the post, Craig shaved part of his beard before the trimmer arrived.

Foods that I am addicted to the ones I simply can not do without.

Hmmm, chocolate.  I have reduced how much I eat, and have mostly switched to dark chocolate.

I once was addicted to Pepsi but finally gave it up.

I have given up most of the foods I simply can not do without, simply because I don't want them killing me :)

Last night I finished reading a novel about a woman exiled from Cuba who is working with the CIA as a spy.  Her goal is to return to Cuba & kill Castro who had her twin brother killed.

Under the Goodreads questions, with a spoiler warning, was "Does she end up killing Castro?"

I thought the only response was great.  "I'm sorry if this seems rude but, do you ever watch the news or read a newspaper?!"

Speaking of the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade did anyone else think it was weird that they changed the lyrics in the Beetlejuice song to talk about the NBC hosts, the parade, and Thanksgiving?

I loved that.

There was only like 1 or 2 pre recorded. I think maybe it was Mean Girls.

Back from a productive day in certain ways.  The run-through was MUCH better, but act two stubbornly is resisting moving along quicker - made even more so by our having to have someone read Beverley Carlton and read it as slow as molasses.  But that's only about three minutes and IF that was the case, we still need to pick up seven more and I felt the act was paced pretty well and was surprised at how long it ran.  So, I may go through and make some judicious edits.

T.O.D.

I am not sure what foods I couldn’t live without.  Hmmmmm

I guess chocolate, although I still have some Halloween candy bars sitting in the kitchen.
Probably anything that is really fattening; such as potatoes prepared as mashed, scalloped, or fried with lots of butter and onions.
Most desserts.....pies, cakes, cookies.
My mother’s tamale pie.  It is probably good that I don’t have the recipe!
