Today, I'm going with my sister and her boyfriend to the Mpowerment's Annual Red Ribbon Gala & Silent Auction (https://www.mpowerwa.org/events):

Mpowerment Washington holds a gala every year - a social event that raises funds to provide HIV/AIDS awareness outreach and education to Thurston, Mason, Lewis and other counties across Washington State.

I'm sitting here in my boxer shorts, trying to decide if I wear shorts or long pants today.  I prefer shorts if I'm not going out, since long pants are torture to get my legs into tangled fabric casings, but if it gets chilly in the apartment, shorts will then be a problem.

So, here I sit, waiting for the snow to get here.

I have one last song to proofread, and a few from the past week to look over. That will get done this morning.

I’m very grateful that I don’t have to lug equipment for this show. Just my better keyboard bench and stand light, and a few cables. I can use their keyboard and everything else. Come to think of it, that is probably going to be the case at the next jernt for the show following this one.

Today is World AIDS Day.  On the New York City Gay Men's Chorus and Alumni Facebook page, my friend Jim Vivyan posted a 20-minute video of photos of the 200+ members who have died.  Too many of them were friends during my tenure as staff arranger between 1981 and 1998, and I would swear that between 1984 and 1995, the Chorus sang for a memorial service for a dead member or friend or supporter of the Chorus.

The photos got to Michael MacDonald, the dear man who hanged my window blinds for me, and I lost it.  His partner, Neil Bickford, had already died, and I remember Michael telling me, I'll be gone soon.  Neil was a huge opera queen and he adored Renata Scotto.  She called him shortly before he died.

My dear friend Bill Tynes gave me a career, and I orchestrated for his company, The New Amsterdam Theatre Company, until his death in January 1986.  JUBILEE was his gift to me, and there have been so many times since January 1986 that I've wanted to call him and dish about recordings and revivals.  I think he would have fallen completely in love with John McGlinn's complete Show Boat recording.

The forecasts are still fluctuating as to what this area will end up with. As so often happens, we're right in the zone of uncertainty between one thing and another. I do think we'll end up with a smaller total amount of snow 'n crap than they were saying last night. I'm just hoping for it to be easily cleaned up, because nothing that hits the ground will be going away any time soon, and if it stays slick it'll be pretty awful.

I've been lying in bed, accompanied by Stella, Annabelle, and Thatch, reading the Cole Porter letters while they napped beside me.  The authors research still bugs me: their notes on The Guardsman, when Cole Porter turns down a musical version, mention the film made by Lunt and Fontanne, but omit the fact that it was a play by Ferenc Molnar and the Nelson Eddy film The Chocolate Soldier.  I think their research is pathetic, but I enjoy the letters.  Porter comes off as a very kind and generous man.

On Friday, Laura took her Mom and me to the Beer Nuts factory store.  We then picked up Sue and proceeded to a paper crafting store in Washington, Illinois.  After we dropped Sue at her home we returned to Laura's and spent the rest of the day in her crafting studio.  Had Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner and then watched Kinky Boots.

My niece Laura is retiring at the end of this month from her position as golf pro with Illinois State University.  The article linked below appeared in Thursday morning's paper, on the front page of the sports section - above the fold:

www.pantagraph.com/sports/golf/games/laura-provost-retiring-as-weibring-golf-club-professional-after-being/article_742a6e51-5dcc-52a7-a0fe-f4d0e9a5524c.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share

Her phone blew up for 2 days with texts and emails of congratulations.  I'm so proud of her!

That pretty cool, Ginny!  Congrats to your niece!

43 years ago this month friends made this needlepoint for Bryan's nursery.

That's so cool too, Jane!

These do look better when they aren't sideways ;D

That's very strange.  I downloaded both images and they were correctly vertical, but when I attached the downloaded image, it was sideways again! ???

Today, I went to a fund raiser for Mpowerment Olympia (https://www.mpowerwa.org/about), a nationally recognized HIV prevention organization.  There was a silent auction (I bid on something but got outbid), entertainment (the singer, Ken, and I knew each other years ago, and sang together in a local vocal workshop, AND were in a couple of shows together!), food and dessert. I don't remember if they said how much money was raised, but every bit helps. :)

I almost said that the new apples were delicious, but that would be an entirely different apple.

I haven't heard anything about this.  I wonder if they're available here in Tumwater.

You didn’t need to live in New York to be affected by the AIDS epidemic.  Over half of the men I dated in the Seventies and the early Eighties died from AIDS.  In addition, two of my very dearest friends died.

I found it rather presumptuous of PBS to put pledge breaks into a NBC production.

And they kept referring to it as a Great Performance production.

At least they acknowledged that the production originally aired on Easter Sunday, 2018.  I don’t remember if they ever mentioned NBC.

Back from our two run-through long, long day.  Second time through was better, but I'm cracking the whip now about the pace and I think we're going to make a couple of little lifts in act two to help it move along.  Mostly, though, it's just picking up cues and talking fast.

I have been asked to play Pontius Pilate.  Apparently, they wanted someone to play the part that actually went to grade school with him

I believe we cut the penguins from our production.
