Elmore and others asked how Nicky is doing.  I appreciate the thoughts.  I wish I knew how he was doing.  He still leaves the bedroom, goes into the guest bathroom, and howls like he thinks I can’t hear him in there.

I got his new pain medicine yesterday, and I gave him some last night.  My God, the drama.  He hacked and coughed thru every room in the house, like he was looking for some dark corner to throw-up.

Today, I followed the pharmacist’s advice and stirred some into his food. He looked at it for a couple minutes, sniffed it once or twice, and left the room.

I think they do cry out if the pain is bad, yet stopping when you walk in the room is different.    Whatever the reason for the crying I think you offer comfort when you go to him.

We've discussed her before, but Alma Deutscher is a 14 year-old prodigy who began playing piano at 2 and violin at 3.  Last night she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in a concert of excerpts from her opera Cinderella, and her orchestral music, with her as soloist in her violin and piano concertos.

The Packard Humanities Institute, sponsors of the aborted John McGlinn-complete works of Jerome Kern and Victor Herbert, has taken her under its wing.  They produced two years ago her opera Cinderella, which is now on DVD.  You may remember as well, that I worked for them from 2001 to 2011, when they shut Toyland down.

Earlier this year, I was asked about returning to work on my edition of Babes In Toyland, and I spent part of October and November working on the editorial material.  To my surprise, on late Monday morning I received an invitation from PHI to be their guest at last night's Carnegie Hall performance.  Just after I accepted, DR JRand69 posted his comments about Dec. 12 being a good day for me.

I have no idea where this will lead, but I had a lovely visit with David Packard and his lovely daughter Arianna, whom I last saw in 2010.  Arianna now has a son Alfie, who is - I would guess - around six years old.  I had a wonderful time.

We had a crazy audience-attended brush-up last night. Most of it was fine but there were a few amusing little weird things that happened. It's a fast moving show with tons of antics and props and costume changes. Should be good tonight for the mostly sold-out house.

Last night DR Jeanne asked: The cats sharpen their claws before dinner? Do you make them open the cans?

Annabelle's vet ad I discussed this.  When cats are ready to eat, they sharpen their claws.  I suspect this is a residual holdover from the long ago wildcat days when they needed to sharpen their claws to tear open a meal.

As soon as I say the word "treat," all three cats run to scratching posts.

Danny Aiello has died. I saw him in that incredible revival of House of the Blue Leaves with John Mahoney, Swoozie Kurtz, Stockard Channing, Ben Stiller and more. Woody Allen was in the audience that day.

We just returned from dinner with our neighbor friends.  We went to a new restaurant on the waterfront.  It was delicious.  We all ordered brussels sprouts as an appetizer.  As excellent as they were I might not order them again as I can still taste the garlic.

On  to the animated version of Elf. I like this version so much better than the original. I just can't take Will Ferrell for a whole movie.

Back from picking up packages, wor won ton soup, and seeing our show, which was attended by a small number of people (around thirty) who were actually a very vocal audience.  Too much line fumfering for my taste and a VERY low energy act two, which I'll be sending notes on.  The new Banjo did a great job.  Had some old pals in the audience - director Joel Zwick and actor Danny Goldman - haven't seen the latter in over forty years.  We came up together as actors and I saw him often back in those days.
