It's very chilly in the apartment this morning. I heard the word "snow" in the TV weather report, but I'll believe it when I see it.
OMG It is cold out! -18C/0 degrees F. That doesn't even include the windchill. When I got up that was -29C.
Friday afternoon greetings! Today is our 39th wedding anniversary. We're going to dinner with Rob and Mary Linda tonight at Montgomery Inn, one of our favorite places.

I've slept about three hours. I guess my days of eating an apple fritter at midnight are done - blechhh. Going back to bed for a bit.

I disliked "Midnight's Children" so much I haven't read anything else by him.
My wonky thyroid problems remain minor. A1C at 6.6, which pleased the doctor. So, all in all, a good visit.

Sandy came through the surgery okay. She will be in the hospital until early next week, and then will be going to rehab for about 2 weeks

We're about a week away from celebrating Chinese New Year, when we will say goodbye to 2019's Pig and welcome the year of the metal Rat. Rat years are said to be energetic years where ambition counts, making this an excellent time to think about the future.
The emphasis this year is on working smarter (not necessarily harder) as you move toward achieving success, but there will be a lot of temptations along the way. The metal Rat puts you in a singular mindset, so you might lose sight of the big picture as you work toward your own individualized goals. Rat energy is fast, but you should still make time to stop and smell the roses.

I've been trying to get to the car wash all week. I headed over there today, but the street construction, which has gone on for many months, was still in progress and the driveway to the car wash was blocked. Terrible for business. Rather than fight all the traffic to find another way in I moved on to Errand #2. But my car's tire pressure light went on, so I drove to a nearby gas station to put air in the tires. I did so, but the indicator stayed on. There's a tire store not far away, and I felt it was time for their expertise. They adjusted the pressures and said I needed two new tires. They had the size in stock, could do it right away, and the price was decent. I've been thinking it's time to put a little money into the car. I like the car, it's in good condition, and I've spent very little on repairs to date. But I'd forgotten it was due for new rear tires.

I wish I could say that they are, but no such luck. Both boys received 30 days in jail, 60 days suspended, and 500 hours of community service. At that time, Washington had no crime of vehicular homicide on the books.
