So, I've been off work since last week.  We were told that we might come back to work next Monday, but with our governor's announcement that everything non-essential is pretty much closed for the next two weeks, I won't be going back to work on Monday.  Today, the Admin and Union reps were supposed to have had a Skype meeting and I hope that we employees find out today the results of that meeting.  Will we go back to work around April 9, or will it be later?  Will we still get to be paid during this downtime?  Will mail deliveries still be happening and will someone still be in the building in the morning to receive these deliveries??  I have packages on the way!  Inquiring minds want to know!

The Lysine isn't doing enough good.  Annabelle's breathing is quite labored this morning and she wouldn't eat.  I've wiped her nose too many times today and yesterday.  I can afford to see a vet next week when the pension lands in my account, so we're treading water till then.

DR JEANNE we had a new moon in Aries yesterday which points to a lot of new experiences for all of us. We are all finding that the old way of doing things is not working and looking for new ways to go.

Saturn is also moving into Aquarius [first time in 29 years] later this week and we will have clearer visions about what the "new You" means for each of us.

We may all get a surprise from a friend - if it is a project, it might not be well thought out yet - but don't be too negative, it could have potential for both of you.

No way I can catch people up on the past few years.  Suffice it to say, Callie died two years ago, my sister died unexpectedly the day after Thanksgiving last year at age 65 (Nephew Jon's mom) and my dad died this past Friday the 13th after battling Alzheimer's for the past 10 years. Now we're hoping my 93 year old mother doesn't get the virus.

On the positive side, I flew with the 185th refueling wing last year and got to see them refuel a B-1 Stealth bomber while we were flying over Kansas.  I graduated from the Citizen's Fire Academy where we learn to do everything the fire fighters do, from driving the fire truck to hazmat to putting out fires, opening fire hydrants, jaws of life etc.  It was fascinating and I wish I could do it again. .

I gave up immigration law completely about 2 years ago and went back to just doing criminal defense - immigration lawyers quit focusing on helping individuals- which I love to do- and it became totally about political activism even if it wasn't in the client's best interest.  I don't believe in that so I quit the field and went back to defending those accused of crimes.

I applied for a judgeship and was one of the finalists and was interviewed by the governor.  I didn't get it and that was a godsend.  I did plan B and moved to a different office space without another attorney sharing space and without a secretary.  It's been fabulous.  It's been 2 years totally solo and I love it

DE Elmore, I hope Annabelle is better this morning.  Be sure to keep her hydrated.  If she won't eat do your best to get her to drink without forcing her to drink.  if she won't and you have an eyedropper, very slowly drip water in the corner of her mouth, she'll drink it.  Hydration is very important in cats.

I follow two authors on Facebook.  Helen Simonson who wrote "Major  Pettigrew's Last Stand" & "The Summer Before the War" posted this today.

My father died Sunday of Covid-19. He had underlying health issues but showed none of the classic virus symptoms in advance. He had NO contact with any confirmed cases. My parents live in a rural French town, not a big city. The virus was spread by asymptomatic folks and untested sick people. The grocery store, the pharmacy, a local cafe or park bench? We will never know how he got it. My mother, who is alone now in a complete lockdown, was happy to see her grandsons warning on social media to take this seriously and isolate wherever you are. I'm passing on this message too, from my mother. Time later to celebrate the life of my wonderful father - time now to make your families safe.

My neighbor Judy is a good lady but she's not always playing with a full deck.  I've become her charity case, and she often turns up at my door with old clothes of her husband's.  This morning she gave me a bag of groceries saying that they were handing out free food where the old Gristedes supermarket was.  The bag contained a box of cereal and two large jars of peanut butter.

Then she complained that the Gristedes was closed.  It's been closed for about two years.  I told her where it now was.

I've also created trailers for all 4 books.

Once I have checked the proofs, the books will go live as both print-on-demand and Kindle editions.

I'm up, I'm up - was up forty minutes ago, but lots of e-mails this morning, including cover proofs and galley - covers have been approved, galley may have to be redone as the odd numbered pages have shifted to the right a bit - which happened on GEE and had to be redone, so trying to nip this in the bud now.  I looked at Magic Castle's galley, which is all perfectly centered and Grant's PDF is also all perfectly centered.  So, waiting to find out what's what on that, but even if they have to redo it, it should be pretty quick - the covers were the big thing and those are now approved.

It’s 88 degrees outside. Tomorrow will be 91. Time to get that AC ready.

I would have said that when it hit 75.

My cousin just emailed me and she asked me if I remembered anything about a smallpox quarantine when our mothers were young.  My grandfather had had smallpox, so he moved to his sister's house and ran errands and delivered groceries to my grandmother, who was stuck inside the house with the seven children.

I don't remember ever hearing about that.

It is shocking that they wouldn't have been vaccinated.  I did a quick search and not all states made it compulsory to be vaccinated.

I had several unpleasant emails this morning.  It hurts to know a friend is in serious trouble and refusing to do a thing about it.

If you insist you do not want to receive the facts, then you should not comment publicly as if you know the facts.  That's how alternative facts happen.

And here's today's NY Daily News cover.

Today's shopping adventure was at Whole Foods. Not crowded, which helped. But a joke! The hot foods counters were closed, the salad bar was closed, no prepared foods at all. The bakery had 1/3 to 1/2 of its usual stock. The sandwich counter was open, but they had only two loaves of bread, both challah. No lettuce. No avocado. The produce aisles were fairly bare, as well, and NO carrots! (I especially wanted carrots.) Many of the shelves of staples were low. I had brought my reusable shopping bags, but was told that I'd have to pack them myself -- the cashier wouldn't touch them, even with gloves on. I don't mind packing them (it was only one), but it seems to me that some of these measures make no sense.

Have any of the officials who are making lockdown decisions actually tried going shopping recently? I support social distancing, but we need to find ways to do it sensibly. And we all still need to eat.

From what I am reading about reusable bags I kind of understand that.  So far we can still take our bags in.  Keith usually packs them anyway.  We are also using a mix of plastic bags as they are still available here.  I am saving them for when the stores stop using them next year.

I am sorry you found so little to purchase.

Thanks John.  It's a bit of a relief, but still sad.  Something told me to go visit him on Thursday the 12 so I did, he died early in the morning on the 13th, so I got to say goodbye. Because of the virus, we planned a private family funeral for the 18th and the only 10 people thing went into effect either the day before or 2 days before. He was the first post corona guidelines death at the funeral home so everyone decided to go through with funeral as planned. We will do a celebration of life sometime later.  We only had 15 plus the honor guard who stayed on the other side of the funeral home and then did the salute outside. So we only cheated a little.

My mom is handling it pretty well.  They've had in home care and the VA was in there all the time. Mom was totally stressed out over his condition and all the people coming and going, so there is a lot of relief for her.    She knew it was coming and he got to die in his sleep in his home.  It's what he wanted.   She has dementia too, so there's that, but she knows what is happening.

Dad also had dementia. When he started to go, it was quickly, within five days. Mom was with him, holding his hand as he went. The last month he was in a nursing home, which was for the best. Mom, at 92, is too frail for the physical needs of keeping someone else.

She's hale and hearty, for the moment still living in their home by herself. But the loneliness is beginning to get to her, though she understands that being in assisted living is not the answer right now during this scare.

My dad never wanted to go to a nursing home, so we went the in home route.  They have a care giver who is there probably 4-5 hours a day and sometimes more.  Dad had a VA nurse and then was in hospice the last week.  Mom will still have Krista every day and Cory deep cleans twice a month.   Mom refuses to leave her house.  When the doctor asked what she'd do if she couldn't climb the stairs, she said "Crawl".   She still plays bridge and her friends say she doesn't remember much but is still a hell of a bridge player.

That's great!  Congrats on your successes!

What was so weird is we used to say unsafe sex was like having sex with all this partner's partners.  Now it's just that it's like you're standing next to all the people that person has stood next to.  With people dying quickly,
It hit me that this is like AIDS without at least getting to have the fun before it.

I'm so sorry.  My condolences. :(

Thanks George

That's great!  Congrats on your successes!

Thanks

UPS has held up the Amazon delivery I expected last night.  I hope it arrives today.

I normally have packages sent to my work.  I don't know if someone is going to be there everyday during the stay-at-home order.  Will my packages be sent back to Amazon?? :-\

Is there a way to go to Amazon and see if you can change the address or instructions? of course that would only work if it hasn't shipped

Work vibes for DR George.  If needed, can you go online and redirect those packages to your home address?

I don't know.  I'll have to look into that.

oops, should have read Jane's comment before posting

The CVS at my home office received the prescription refill I needed and were more than happy to send it to the CVS around the corner from me. Trouble is, the nearby CVS didn't want to fill the prescription. Excuse me? They did, finally, and I had to pick it up after 7 p.m. but before they closed at 8.

I draw up the legal documents for loan closings.  In New York mortgage lenders are represented  by attorneys, not title companies, and buyers and sellers are likewise represented by attorneys, not real estate agents.

Then you are doing what I originally thought.  It seemed as if were in a specialty office within this specialty.   Did that make sense?

I have never heard of them not wanting to fill a transferred prescription.   >:(

I read the Peace Corps is sending everyone home and gave them very little warning to prepare.  Supposedly they were not permitted to take their pets.  I doubt Craig would have left without his pets :(

Down to my last two Pepcids - I ordered more a week ago and they have yet to arrive.  Will probably have to Rite-Aid it for a small bottle.  Shouldn't take this damn long to get here.

Listening to a Khachaturian symphony - not Aram, but nephew Karen (a male) - wonderful music - not quite the melodic gift of Uncle Aram but plenty gifted.

Why don’t you shift them to a third party address, like a Rite Aid or a Safeway?

What possible reason did they give for not wanting to fill it?

Go into Your Orders at Amazon (NOW) and see whether you can still switch the addresses.  I have done it before.  If it is too late, they will tell you.

Amazon has a toll-free number to call for information, but not an option to change the delivery address.
