Today, I get to go into work and pay the credit card bill.  Woo-hoo! ;) That shouldn't take too long...just a couple of hours at the most.  I don't know if anyone else will be there.  One of my co-workers was supposed to come in yesterday and another is going to come in tomorrow.  One or both of them might be in today.  We're all in the same area, but we're far enough apart from each other that no one should be able to give or catch anything.  Hopefully, no one has anything to give!!

DR JohnG, David Schramm was such a good man and talented actor.  His career began with Patti Lupone and Kevin Kline in the Juilliard Act Company, which was packed with talent.  AIDS took a few, and I used to see members of the original group on Law & Order and other TV shows.  David was really wonderful as the bigoted southern Senator Rawkins on Finian's Rainbow, who gets turned black by magic (and then played by the equally wonderful Chuck Cooper) to learn what a sharecropper's existence is really like. I miss that production!

Some moron on Facebook claimed that Cheyenne Jackson's performance was so lackadaisical that he spoiled the show with dropped lines and bad attitude, but I saw nearly every performance and never once saw any behavior of that sort.

The NEW 3rd edition of my book, THE ART OF STORYTELLING, is now available on Amazon.  Not only does it have a new, lower retail price, but for the first time, it is also available on Kindle.

As my late friend, film/TV producer Stanley Rubin said: "If you want to write and sell what you write, read this book."

Vixmom, I am STUNNED at that guy's behavior.

First, couldn't he have just said to the butcher, "thanks, and could I have another please, since we're permitted two"?
But he just takes them both and walks away without another word?

SERIOUSLY?

Usually, things that affect all of us tend to bring out the best in ... well, many of us. Obviously not all of us, or we would have recovered from the shortages by now. But holy     (sputtering, sorry) cow. I hope he steps into the road when there's a Russian driver barreling down the street.

However, I didn't have to wait for forthwith to watch A CAROL CHRISTMAS at bedtime last night. Most enjoyable, thank you, BK. I sure would love to have seen and heard the added speech, but of course I understand.

I actually have an ongoing beef with my local directors and theaters about how to archive a damned show. One place here always taped opening nights, and that was it. Others do closing nights, and that's it. Still others fail to procure a videographer in time to be able to choose the date, so they have to take what they can get and what they get is invariably a performance that leaves something to be desired, just due to fate and the luck of the draw.

My idea is to build this into the planning and budgeting for each show.

First, tape opening night or another early one in the run, because you never know what can happen later in the way of losing a cherished cast member or some such (cf. our CABARET). Then tape two performances late in the run, and perhaps make one of those closing night since energy and excitement tend to be up. But you'll then have those three to choose from and maybe even make a few edits where necessary to achieve a good archival copy.

So, BK's videos are good because it looks like y'all have a videographer who knows what to capture and how to plan closeups and panning, etc. In my experience we're just lucky when that happens successfully. More often than not, too many little things get missed.

Of course BK's shows have performances and direction and shape and momentum and all that good stuff. Always a pleasure. And I jumped for joy when "This Christmas" came around. That's a favorite song, anyway, and I loved that you fit it in.

In all this talk about taping shows, I'm not forgetting licensing issues when it's not one's own work. We had ourselves a nice little scandal here a few years back when one of the theaters was reported to one of the licensing houses for not only taping a performance of each show, but then distributing copies to the cast. And boy, did that ever result in a dumpster fire.

And now that theater doesn't permit it at all. Others keep it more under wraps and don't distribute copies. Or if they do, it's on an individual basis and strictly under the table.

So it's nice when you're doing an original work and the creator is standing right there authorizing the taping.

Back from the banking.  The first bank I went to in Studio City was Chase, to cash my pension check because BofA hasn't been cashing them for the last three months - they want to deposit and hold and I won't do it.  But Chase branch is closed, so on to the second bank, which went quickly, thank goodness, and then on to BofA, where I put in cash and tried to cash the pension check, which they couldn't.  I told them Chase was closed and I'd have to go to Sherman Oaks then to that branch of BofA and I was sure BofA wouldn't want me out and about that long, and she cashed it and I was done.  The whole thing, with walking, took about fifteen minutes.

Interesting thing: To use Postmates, which I've only done once, and get a small (and I mean small) pepperoni pizza (9.99 in the restaurant), and the antipasto salad (10 in the restaurant), with taxes, delivery, and "fees" - forty bucks.  To get a filet mignon, creamed spinach, and a half order of garlic cheese bread from the Smoke House via Door Dash - forty  bucks.  I know which one I'd go for first.

Listening to the soundtrack of the horrible film version of 3Penny Opera. Terrible lyrics from Menachem Golan, who directed. And the orchestrator seems to have thrown accordion at every song. (What is the squeezebox version of “More cowbell!”) But Julia Migenes, Roger Daltry, Raul Julia and even Richard Harris give it their all.

Yes, substitutes are an issue.  The system we're using at Kroger gives you the option to not allow any substitutes.  Or, if you do allow them, you're given the opportunity to accept or reject the proposed sub.  It's not perfect, but for now it's the best option for us.

I've developed a deeper understanding, though, of how powerless my mother felt when she started relying on others (mostly me) to shop for her.

Made pasta with red onions and mushrooms but the mushrooms tasted weird so I avoided those, only having had one, which I spit out.  The sauce was fine but I threw out about three ounces of it.  Part of the problem is that I wanted a dash of cayenne - I unscrewed the cap to add and dumped in a ton because they've now changed the way you do it - flip-top now.  I cleaned most of it out since it was all on top but enough was still  there to make it too spicy for me.

LOL, I like your reasoning.

My brother who is the manager of the Greencastle Aldi says that old folks shopping time is the WORST time to go - no social distancing and LOTS of people.

He says that other times of the day there are only two or three folks in the store......

DR JRand, we saw some news footage from a Kroger store that made me suspect as much.  We are now thoroughly sold on pre-ordering for curbside pick-up and I've been coaching, via text, my friend Rebecca on how to do that.  It would be so much easier to show her in person...

My problem is I do not want any substitutes.  Keith likes to check expiration dates.  For some reason many of the foods we buy are expired or have too short of an expiration date.  As for vegetables, we want to pick our own.

For now we will continue to go inside the store and do our best to avoid people.  We are going less often.  I purchased cabbage I didn't need yesterday as it lasts a long time.

At least you purchased what she wanted even if it wasn't good for her.

Back in the days, I rented that film version "Mack the Knife" from a local video rental.  The opening number, "Mack the Knife," was so full of prancing chorus boys I turned it off and saw no more of it.

One of my neighbor's has been doing senior shopping, even though he's not that senior. Twice now he's told me how Costco is well-stocked and Ralph's, too. I woke up at 6 this morning and couldnt go back to sleep, so I threw on some clothes to drive to the nearby Ralph's. I passed said neighbor, who was just returning. "Where'd you go?" "Ralph's." He told me that store was well-stocked, even TP. At 7:30 there weren't many people in the store, but NO TP or PT, no alcohol, no wipes. The manager told me that they get deliveries every other day and yesterday was one of them. Out of maybe six items I was only able to find one, raisins. I think my neighbor must be shopping a different Ralph's because we had completely different experiences.

Around noon I drove over to Trader Joe's, where there was a line, spaced out. TJ's had even put tape on the ground to mark off 6' intervals. Even though the line looked long, there were lots of empty parking spaces, which NEVER used to be the case, so there couldn't have been all that many of us. No TP, which they said is delivered daily, but sells out instantly. I bought quite a bit, but all food, none of the hard-to-find items.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 4 p.m.

Several months ago, pre-Covid-19, I was at the local 99 Cent store and asked the checker if one needed to come in the early morning to miss the crowd. He said no, that early morning is very busy. What time is best? Late morning.

I'm sure it varies from store to store, but there does seem to be lot of people who like the early hours.

Exactly!  Theater Artists Olympia did our own musical adaptation of The Brain That Wouldn't Die, called The Head That Wouldn't Die!  We filmed it and my friend pug the director literally just yesterday sent (private) YouTube links to watch it.  It was a great show. :)

Yes, Richard walks every morning.  I’m not quite ready to put that kind of stress on my ankle, but I’m doing more around the house and continuing my PT stretches.

Stretches and motion are good.  I am sorry your ankle is taking so long to heal.

I'm very frustrated that our governor hasn't issued a stay at home order.  She just says "Iowans know what to do and they will do the right thing" . Yeah right. Meanwhile, the cases and deaths are beginning to increase and people aren't taking it seriously.  School and most businesses are closed and she thinks that's enough.    I'm working from home and only going to the grocery store once a week or so.  Ok, it as twice this week,  I am going for walks, going to the office once a day just to check the mail and leave and working in the yard when it's nice.  But people are still having get togethers etc.  We only have 7 cases in the county,(counties on the eastern and southern parts of the state are much higher) but they just started testing  with a drive through testing site this week.  I have a feeling it's just going up

Ohio’s public health director, Dr. Amy Acton, today said the most depressing thing I’ve heard:

“I wish I could give you hope about your summer.”

 :'(

And our Governor says it's just going to get worse but maybe we can reopen the schools in another week she'll take a look at it Good grief

I am so thankful I can work from home.  I do have a few masks from woodworking.  The federal court is still having in person hearings but the only three people who are in close contact are the defendant, the defense attorney and the US Marshal.  I don't have a hearing set until May 1, but I will be wearing a mask

You have drive through testing, wow.

I am sorry your governor didn't make the call early when you had a better chance to slow it down.

Tonight’s Zoom meeting was a nightmare!

Just today, I got a FB message for the production of Mamma Mia! that I'll be doing in Centralia:  "Our rehearsals are scheduled to begin on April 20th with a read through and handling paperwork and so we are going to do that, but we are going to do that virtually."  And the music will be taught online starting on April 21. :o

The new plan is this.  Opening night is delayed another week to May 7 (Thursday).  We would run Thursday and Friday night, two performance on Saturday, and then a Sunday matinee.
