Well, you've read the notes, the notes refuse to lose their sense of humor, and now it is time for you to post until the humorless cows come home.

Today, I have no plans, but I might finish my laundry.  Yesterday, I did probably five loads of laundry.  I don't think that I've done that many in one day before.  I think I might have three more at the most to do, then I will have no dirty clothes at all!  Who'da thunk it?

I also might work on more Blu-rays.  I still have quite a few programs that I've recorded from my DVRs, so we'll see if I work on those.  Then, I also might start to clean and declutter and organize...it's been faaaaaaar too long. ::)

Also, I found out yesterday that we're probably not going to go back in to work until May 4! :o Some of us might go in early.  I know I'll have to go in on the week of April 20 to invoice and pay some bills...details still to be determined.

I can't say I slept badly, but the hours between 10:00pm and 6:00am seemed to last for months.  I only remember one dream.  I was a junior in college and my friend John Uehlein and I had rooms in a dormitory next to each other.  I had to go back to Middletown for an appointment, but I managed to lock mysel;f out of my room and had to track down the adviser with a pass key. I got a new roommate, and we were working out the housekeepiong details of whose property went where.

Our announcement of a two season show was to be on hold until May 1 - since it in tentative and may be changed even before then....

BUT the director of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS that was canceled decided to post it on his Facebook page and piss and moan about it.  Of course he is friends with all of the biggest loudmouths in the county and they all started to piss and moan all over his page....

I am trying to keep announcements to a MINIMUM to keep from confusing people - season ticket holders and the parents of all the little darlings in the two workshops - who will now deluge our email and Facebook pages with messages and questions and outrage and suggestions and time consuming rants that I don't have the time or patience for right now....

Thanks!  I asked him to remove it, although the harm is done, maybe it won't turn into a flood......

The rationing of tests does have a theater wrinkle.

I will say it feels like access to the tests for employed show business folks (at a time when tests were even more scarce) is troubling. From this Variety article: https://variety.com/2020/legit/news/aaron-tveit-coronavirus-broadway-moulin-rouge-symptoms-smell-1203552585/ ominous words about access to the tests, I think, based on concerns of keeping shows open -

And that the show was letting personnel who they knew were exposed near the stagehands, dressers, too, and this in a show where there are entrances less than six feet from audience members.

This feels like economics dictated keeping the shows open.
Here's the quote:

"And then our producers went into immediate action. They availed anyone who was in direct or indirect contact with them to be able to be tested. At that point, I had cold symptoms and a little bit of a cough. I was feeling a little bit of fatigue. I thought, “Why don’t I go in and get tested?

[interviewer}. Was it hard to get a test?

Our producers acted swiftly to make that happen. There is a doctor who works with the Broadway community, and it turns out the doctor had the test."

Thatch loves to be brushed.  Every night, just before I go to bed, I give him a long brushing, during which he rolls about, stretches, and luxuriates in it.  About a week ago, I gave Annabelle one, and she reacted the very same.  Now, when I start to brush Thatch, Annabelle butts in, throws herself about, and carries on until I stop my work on Thatch and devote myself to her.

I love ANATOMY OF A MURDER.

Can't remember when I first saw it. Probably in LA at a revival house, I really don't know. But the last time (at a theater) was the best ever.

Back in the early aughts this beautiful old single screen theater in Suffern, NY, the Lafayette, was showing a lot of classics on Saturday mornings, and I drove out there for a number of them over several years. Peter Apruzzese, a wonderful projectionist (he posts on HTF once in a while), ran a *perfect* 35mm print that was to die for. I told him later that I, being fully aware of its 2:40 running length, was sitting there taking it all in and loving every minute of it, and at one point I thought to myself that we're probably at or beyond the halfway point by now, and wasn't this a satisfying presentation, blah blah blah. Five minutes later, the movie was over! He said the same thing happened to him in the booth. He was finding it so gripping that he very nearly missed a reel changeover.

Anyhoo--- love it, and love the music. I have the original 6-eye Columbia LP, and a very desirable Mobile Fidelity release. They're electrifying, played properly over the Big Speakers.

I wonder if it was Foster Hirsch who hosted the showing of PORGY AND BESS at the Ziegfield in... I'm thinking October 2007. He was promoting his new book, and really did seem to think he was God's gift to the world when it comes to Preminger.

TCM is honoring Peter Bogdanivich with a couple of films this evening and the following couple of Saturday evenings. Tonight they're showing TARGETS and THE LAST PICTURE SHOW.

I love all of his early stuff, and I probably own whatever of it I need to see. But I'll be interested to hear how they present these, especially TARGETS, nowadays, considering its subject. I haven't watched it in years, but it's a favorite, what with its San Fernando Valley settings and a wonderful old Boris Karloff.

Ginny, did you ever read Toni Morrison's Beloved or see the movie? It's set on the outskirts of Cincinnati, but I can't remember if they actually name a specific place. I'm watching the movie now, and it just mentions that they go to Cincy for a carnival. The movie's brutal, and it's excellent, which I wasn't expecting. I don't remember too many of the movie critics, except for Robert Ebert, liking it.

I found this interesting from a friend of mine, even if it was on fb.

On the advisability of covering your face:

Even though today’s temp is slated to approach 60, it was still below freezing when I set out on my walk - I was hoping to avoid the crush of conscientious, good-weather walkers in my neighborhood. As I chugged up the first (not insignificant) hill, I could see my exhaled breath vaporizing in the chill. then drifting to my right and rear while spreading ever further. Its reach was surprising. And so, also disturbing.

Is anyone else having trouble sleeping? Elmore said so. Others? It's strange: I don't feel particularly anxious or depressed, but things are clearly bothering me. How could they not? The Covid situation is so bad, and yet there's something surreal about it. I guess it's difficult to fathom the enormity of it.

After reading Bryan's news last night that he finally has protective clothing I slept until 5:00 this morning.  It is hard to tell if stress is causing less sleep or me just being me.

I should've waited to send that to you so I could send you A Carol Christmas at the same time (and for no additional cost), if you wanted that one, too.

As you can tell, though it is not a cause for concern, my attitude is NOT what it should be, and I am OVER a lot of things that I am dealing with at this time......as are we all.

But it will get better.....

Speaking of "A Carol Christmas,"  I finished watching it and really loved it.  The cast was terrific and, of course, the score was great!

I don't know if I posted this when the CD came out, but one thing I love about the score is that, like the stage version of Grease, so many secondary characters get their own songs.  And not just lines within group numbers...full out leads and solos.  The lead character is listed in I think three songs, but so many other people get their time to shine.  As a community theater actor, I love shows like that!

there was a wonderful opinion piece in the Washington Post yesterday comparing our stay-at-home situation to Waiting for Godot. (There another piece today that reminded me of Philip Roth's last novel, Nemesis, about the polio spread.)

Anyway, I just discovered that a TV version of Waiting for Godot, with Zero Mostel and Burgess Meredith, is on a DVD I bought from BK more than a year ago that I haven't had the time to watch. Well, I'm watching it now. Watching. And waiting.

I haven't read anything that explains the dependency in test results.  I suppose it is what they use or if the test is labeled priority.

DR Jane are you walking on paths?  Or up and down streets?  I refuse to go on any bike paths as they are too narrow. And there are lots of people walking and biking and passing each other. To me this is ridiculous. I am only biking in my neighborhood on streets. And I can cross to the other side if there are people walking. The only thing that i don't like is when there are more than a couple of people.  Sometimes they just don't move far enough away for my preference. :(

I am glad you have alternatives.  Our path is 12 feet wide, easy enough to practice a safe distance except the majority don't.  Today we went a different direction and walked down side streets and through parking lots as that stretch is an industrial area vs homes.  I think tomorrow we will go to Fort Vancouver where it is easier to move away from people.

Back from a little drive.  Glad I did it - car was very hard to start, but once it did it was fine.  The first thing I noticed was Ralph's was still open at eleven.  The second thing I noticed was there were about four or five cars in the drive-through at In-N-Out.  The third thing I noticed was the Shell station across the street - two cars there and today, at some point, gas prices there dropped from 3.90 to 3.13.
Title: Re: A SENSE OF HUMOR
Post by: bk on April 04, 2020, 11:36:08 PM
I drove a bit then decided to check what is usually the cheapest Arco station near my old home environment - well, apparently Arco hasn't gotten the memo - it's still 3.80 there and I was almost tempted to walk in there and tell them I was going to report them for gouging.  I didn't.  When no one goes there tomorrow I suspect the price will drop to 3.10 or thereabouts.  Then I drove back to the Shell station and put gas in the motor car - I had a half-tank, and it was less than thirty bucks to fill it up.  So, I won't have to get gas for the next month now.
