Title: KRITZERLAND AT FACEBOOK RETROSPECTIVE SHOW
Post by: bk on April 06, 2020, 12:31:02 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Facebook, and now it is time for you to post until the retrospective cows come home.

The Kritzerland FB Show began as I was going to bed, and I'm sorry that I missed it live.  I loved reading BK's narration and the DR comments.  I think I will watch the show today and read the narration between videos.

I'm running late this morning and kitty cleanup is over.  I still have to tidy up the apartment.  Today's project, besides watching the Kritzerland show, is to put away the DVDs before the cats kick them all over the apartment.

The Facebook Kritzerland show was wonderful, at nearly three hours!

The first few links I followed were from here. Then I saw one of the live introductions and realized I was missing a lot if I didn't watch those instead. So I checked back here for comments but pretty much stayed on FB. And then the ways Facebook operates drove me nuts. Maybe there are better ways I could have done this, but this was my method:

I've only ever watched single FB Live events, and had no issue with those, but the need to constantly refresh BK's page caused little things to be missed, even after I got a routine down.

(Read further at your own risk, f you really want to geek out!)  :)

First, is there a setting that enables/disables the muting of volume every time you get to a video? If so, I probably have it set to mute on purpose, since FB could be hellish otherwise. So I'd have to uncheck that for an event like this because there's no way I could refresh the page for BK's latest introduction and not miss the first few seconds of audio every time.

And then, it seems that "click to expand" is what "joins" you to the event, where you can read people's comments on the right side of the screen. (Is there another way?) Is this correct? I could read people's comments, and it would announce that, for example, DR Ginny was watching, and I think that's because she's a FB friend. No other FB friends of mine showed up until near the end for the thanks and goodnights.

That view of the live video would sometimes freeze upon starting the page, or it would delay starting. I usually had to refresh that page, thereby missing even more of it. And then sometimes it would freeze right in the middle, necessitating a refresh.

Finally, once a live segment is finished, I found you can't leave the page there and just refresh that when BK comes back. That one's gone, and you have to go back to the person's regular page and start the process over again.

But what a great show it was, and kudos to BK for making it a real event!

That comes from real showmanship, of course, not just controlling some hardware and software.  :)

Looking forward to another!

Two volumes of Kurt Weill Revisited this morning. I forgot how good some of this music is. Nell Carter’s Sing Me Not a Ballad is really jazzy and great. Mae West should have tried that one, though her voice was never that good.

And then I got up at my somewhat usual 7:30 a.m.  I thought I'd want to try getting back to sleep later, but I think not. Which is fine. Plenty of things to get into today.

I'm up, I'm up - four hours of sleep - just couldn't fall back asleep at eight.  So, already have been to the mail place (no one there), and then right back home.  Gelson's looked busy but plenty of empty parking spaces seen.  And people alone in their cars driving - with a mask on.  Sorry, kids, stupid, at least to me it is.  But they buy into the panic and hysteria daily.  In a month or two, people will look back on this and understand how much the media and Facebook/Twitter caused much of the unnecessary crazy.  Sure, if it makes you comfy wear a mask into the market.  Kind of meaningless as long as you keep some distance, but I understand the comfort level.  Every time I read of new cases it's never because people got it from being in a store or masked or unmasked - never.  It's always from being in very close proximity to someone who has it, I mean like close, breathing on them close.

LOL, we must be reading different news.  The majority of new cases I read about have no idea where they got it and many were practicing basic social distancing.

RIP - Zev Buffman, producer, 89

I don't know how far and wide he was known, but for those of us growing up in South Florida in the 1960s and 1970s, his name was synonymous with the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami and the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. These were were our temples.

Thinking about it, his name and fame were right up there with conductor Emerson Buckley. For this teen (I'm still a teen, right?), those two were at the pinnacle of cultural life -- the classical music and Broadway touring worlds -- in South Florida in those years.

Most of the masks are homemade or cheap ones the professionals wouldn't use.

The reasoning to wear a mask now is that you are contagious before feeling sick. If you wait until you have symptoms to wear a mask you may have all ready shared the virus.

I had no idea the KL show was live last night. That must have only been on FB. I was here, Bruce, and watched as much as I could until I had to crash. My favorite, I think, was Adrienne Stiefel doing "Have I Stayed Too Long At the Fair?" I'd seen the clip before. It really is perfection.

Re masks:
I wear one now to protect myself and others. It's not always possible to stay 6 ft away. For example, last week I was at Trader Joe's. TJ's has been in the forefront of allowing only a few people in the store at one time, giving you hand sanitizer as you go into the store, and marking off six-foot intervals on the waiting area. But, despite all that, I was in the prepared foods section, deciding what to buy, when suddenly I was aware of a man standing RIGHT next to me, very close. I was shocked. We've only been distancing for a few weeks, but it's become second nature. Then, I heard another man, RIGHT behind me, talking to man #1. They were speaking a language I didn't recognize. Neither wore masks. Neither made any attempt at distancing. I grabbed my food and left. Even pre-Covid I think I would have been uncomfortable with such proximity.

So, do you all know about this ridiculous crap known as Quibi that just launched?  It's stuff you watch on your phone in quick bites, six to ten minutes.  I heard about this a year go because David Wechter's son sold a series to them or a movie in chapters or some such silliness.  Because the attention span of people these days isn't short enough, the brainiac known as Jeffrey Katzenberg wants to make it even shorter.  It's gotten pretty bad reviews for the content and also the irony of launching something you watch on your phone (you can't watch it on other devices) during a stay at home.

The Levi video has been uploading to Dropbox, which is the only way I can share it, for four hours and it's not even close to being finished.  I suspect it will take until tomorrow.

;D  I am familiar with that reaction.

After a hectic time shopping this morning we were pleasantly surprised to have a relaxing walk in the afternoon.  Most of the people out today were regulars and considerate.

We were on a sidewalk and saw a couple coming towards us from a good distance away.  To avoid them we took a path down to benches overlooking the river.  As we turned to head back, figuring the couple had continued on, we noticed them coming towards us again.

We then realized it was our friends in our building heading to visit with us :)

We had a nice chat while practicing social distancing and away from any walkers that might want to pass.

I tried going for a walk earlier. I would like to finish my audiobook tonight and figured I'd be able to do that on a walk. Well, no. I rounded the corner and a group of six or eight people with no gloves, no face masks were headed straight at me. I returned home and listened while I cleaned up some more in the garage.

I have many stacks of books that need boxes so I can get rid of them one of these days. I've decided to get rid of most of the wine books and a great many food histories. I have a great many more to cull through.

I did manage to clean out what I needed to from the freezer. I'm left with a turkey, some bacon, a pork tenderloin, a bottle of aquavit and ice cream bars.

Our state isn't going to have a mandatory shelter in place or stay home order.  Almost anywhere you would want to go is shut down and our Governor says 90% of the jobs here are essential to the food chain so they can stay open.  The sad thing is it's the restaurants and small businesses that are getting hurt the most

Let's see......I backed into my neighbor's girlfriend's car the other day.  Her damage was enough to report it to insurance.  I don't have a deductible on hers, but on mine there is a $500 ded.  The estimate from the photo thingy from the company was absurd.  The paint is cracked and chipped on my bumper and the estimate is over $1000. They say they have to replace things that aren't even broken.   I've been watching Youtube videos and am thinking about repairing it myself.  It's quite a process, but if I can take a beat up old farm table and make it look really nice, I should be able to fix the paint on a bumper.  It would save me $500....well probably closer to $400 after buying all the supplies
Title: Re: KRITZERLAND AT FACEBOOK RETROSPECTIVE SHOW
Post by: cillaliz on April 06, 2020, 10:12:39 PM
I don't think the insurance adjuster was used to people telling him that they don't understand why they want to replace this or that when the estimate is twice the deductible. He got quite flustered when I asked why they were replacing the cover on the spare tire when the cover had 0 damage and isn't even connected to the bumper.   He tried to tell me the parts come together that way....lol, one visit to a parts site online told me that's not true

If my car was brand new, I wouldn't be so picky, but it's 8 years old and paid for.  It's like they had to add things on to make it enough over the deductible that I'd say, "Oh yes, I'll go to your partner body shop".   Well, I can sand, I can use putty, I can prime, paint and clear coat.....and if I mess it up....I can go get it fixed.   It's a challenge and what else am I doing now days.

Well, certainly not Vimeo - you're allowed a whopping 5GB a post.  Needless to say, Levi is 160GB.  So, YouTube it is but I have to figure out the privacy thing there.

It's really 160GB??  Standard Blu-ray discs for the most part are only 25 or 50 GB.  It must be super hi-def...or some special format about which I know nothing. ;)

Do most cities have people with their faces or hands covered?  I am not going into stores. But in Canada (at least where i am) they have said to keep the masks for the medical professionals.  They wash the grocery carts before each person uses them. You wash your hands before going in the store. And you stay 6 feet away from those around you.

They wash the carts or sanitize them?  The entire cart?  I am impressed.  Keith & I like to go in together and split the list in half but I do understand the reasoning to permit only one person.

Most of the masks are homemade or cheap ones the professionals wouldn't use.

The last time I went to Costco, they were just wiping down the handles of each cart, not the whole cart...at least, not that I could tell.  I don't know what any other store is doing with their carts or baskets.
