Topic of the Day:  I have to rerecord all three VHS tapes of my dad's trip to the Ukraine because of typos.  When he wrote on the VHS labels, he misspelled some names and I didn't think to look them up, so I just used his spellings.  After I burned the DVD (one DVD for the three VHS tapes), I deleted the files on my DVD burner.  Then, I looked up one word because I'd never heard of this place and his spelling of it was not correct.  If I hadn't deleted the files, I could've just fixed the spellings and reburned the DVD, but no...I had to delete the whole files.  So, now I have to rerecord all three VHS tapes back onto my DVD burner because I hate it when I have typos in DVDs that I make. :P

About the article about Fancy Feast that Larry posted yesterday...I have fed Neve (and Ebonie) Fancy Feast, but I haven't in probably a month.  I've been giving her Friskies Paté, some Extra Gravy varieties and some all-natural dry stuff, but I hadn't gotten around to getting more FF.  My niece pretty much only feeds her cats FF, so I'll have to ask her how they're doing.

I had a good night opf sleep until around 3:30, when Stella decided to explore my bed table and brought down a glass of water and the lamp with a crash.  There was only a little bit of water in the glass, and the lamp luckily still works, but I was not happy.  As soon as I went back to bed, Stella was back in my bed and snuggling up to me.

Post by: elmore3003 on May 22, 2020, 04:27:19 AM
Last night I watched Chimes At Midnight, which I'm still pondering.  The Wars of the Roses fascinates me, and I really love Shakespeare's Henry V, but my problem with all the history plays, since there are large number of characters to keep track of, I usually feel I am at another's family reunion where I know only a few people, and I spend the time trying to figure oput the relationships with no guidance.

So, I enjoyed the film - the back and white photography is beautiful - and the performances, although I did not recognize John Gielgud as Henry IV until late in the movie.  I liked Margaret Rutherford as Mistress Quickly and Alan Webb as Shallow, and I wondered why Jeanne Moreai was cast as Doll Tearsheet and if she were dubbed.  As to the screenplay, it seems to mainly be the Falstaff scenes from Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, with enough of the remainder of the plays for continuity and then a bit of Henry V for Mistress Quickly's account of Falstaff's death.

The last part of the film, from the new King Henry V's rejection and banishment to Falstaff's death is quite heartbreaking.  Welles is a good Falstaff and I liked Keith Baxter as Prince Hal.

Well, DR Elmore, you already posted more than I remembered about the movie. (And how did I not think to mention Margaret Rutherford?)

Better put this one on the watch pile. Better yet, establish a separate Shakespeare watch pile. That’s been a plan of mine for a while now.

DR Vixmom, I am so hoping this caregiver works out and gives you a break from the notorious and quite common CFPCLRM (Caring For Parents Can Lead To Murder) Syndrome.  I loved and miss my dad enormously, but my last year of his cancer was enough to drive anyone mad!  When it was over, I suffered and still suffer from vWSBSDB (Wish Sibling and Bitch Sister-in-law Dead and Buried) Syndrome.

New moon in Gemini!

With the appearance of the new Gemini moon, we say goodbye to one cycle and hello to a new one. Gemini energy can be restless and scattered, making it hard to come up with concrete ideas to expand upon.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the fast-moving ruler of information and communication, so you can use this time for brainstorming and networking with big idea people. You might not know exactly how the things you’re talking about now are going to unfold in the future, but you’re okay with that. Use this dynamic, airy energy to explore bigger-than-life thoughts and dreams without worrying about the details.

Made a really good Portuguese dish for dinner. It was essentially a salad with cod, garbanzos, onion, cilantro snd tomato. The original recipe called for salt cod, which I did Not have. So I baked my regular cod in panko breadcrumbs, which added a crunchy texture. Will definitely make this again.

It took a year to get this appointment.  Originally I was only going for a second opinion.  When I couldn't get a bone density test where I usually this new doctor got me into a place that had the same kind of machine where I have been getting it done.

Church is going to reopen next Sunday, which is Pentacost, but I think the rules will enrage some. Yes, you have to wear a mask, but you also have to have your temperature taken before you can enter the sanctuary. You have to adhere to social distancing. All hymnals, bibles and any paper and pens have been removed. Everything will be wiped down between services.

I’m not ready to head back.

Technically it should be done on the exact same machine but I do believe this was close enough.  Letting the new doctor order the test I felt as if I was burning my bridges with the old doctor and hoped I liked the new one.  It was a relief that I do.

So, even though we had this night completely to ourselves a mere two days ago, there are suddenly three major concert things that people have suddenly decided they're doing because it's Tony night.  Funny that they only figured that out two days ago.  I must say, there's too much stuff now - everyone and their mother is doing a porch concert or a this or a that.  We're not like that - we're just doing what we've been doing for almost ten YEARS now - we're not doing it to call attention to ourselves - if I felt like doing that I would load us up with every major musical theater person I ever worked with - we're doing what we'd be doing at Vitello's if we could be there - we can't, so we do it online so our loyal audiences can enjoy.  But the sheer volume of home stuff, porch stuff, balcony stuff, is mind-numbing at this point.

I want a  small BBQ chicken salad.  Hold the chicken and add extra black beans.  A slice of anniversary cheesecake for dessert.

Friday evening greetings!  I'm not sure where today went.  I shopped online a bit, played in my craft room a lot, and did some desk work.  Not much time in the kitchen, because we had leftover chicken pie for dinner.

The closest Cheesecake Factory to me is 25 minutes away.  I will not be having any.

Will you continue to worship from home? Are there other options?

Yes. I will watch the live stream of the service.

The church for which Fr. Richard has been doing services on Zoom has some parishioners who want to go to the building for worship, but many (including the priest, his wife, and the music director) do not.  So, Richard will continue to conduct the service in front of his computer, I will attend in front of mine, Amanda will play the piano in her living room and the people at the church will watch the Zoom broadcast on a jumbo TV.  How ridiculous is that?

My book group had a similar conversation last night.  Some wanted to meet on someone's large patio, wearing masks and sitting 6 feet apart.  I and most others said if we had to do that we'd rather continue Zooming.

My CF order would be a Santa Fe salad, with ranch dressing instead of the peanut cilantro, and a slice of Dulce de Leche cheesecake.

Watched a bit of a movie, fell asleep for almost an hour, then took a drive.  I'm beginning to think the traffic spike IS because of Memorial Day.  The other reasoning, that people are just getting out to go on scenic drives doesn't make sense to me - why wouldn't they have done that from the start or four weeks ago or even two weeks ago?  The Memorial Day thing might also explain the gas prices going up by almost twenty cents.  I suppose we'll know the answer to that if they start going down again next week.

I got my new iPad this week.  I've never had anything "i"  I'm strictly andriod and PC, anyway, I got it because everyone else in the family Face Times  Mom and I are the only ones who didn't.  So I suggested getting one for mom and everyone thought I was nuts because my mom won't even use a digital camera and has never touched a computer.  Anyway, my brother and Krista got it set up for her and she loves it.   She's face timed with her great grands, with my bro and his family and with me today.  All my sister's kids have facetime so they are excited they can see her without driving 8 hours from Joplin. They can also send photos.  It's a good thing

No, I'm not back at my office.  The state courts decided to put off trials and most in person hearings until July.  We do most of them on Go To Meeting.  It works very well.  The federal court is planning to start jury trials sooner than that, but I don't have a hearing in federal court scheduled until the end of June, so I'm not too concerned about it.  I think part of it is people being cooped up.  At first arrests were down and it seemed crime was down. Now is just the opposite and there are lots of new cases out there and a lot of violence.  I got a new attempted murder client and a sex abuse client and some other little things.

In my hometown, our church has broadcast on the local access channel ever since I can remember.  They are on Facebook now, but mom has been watching on tv instead of going for ages. I've always been glad they had that so they didn't have to go to church after they got to the point they shouldn't be driving.  It's even more important now

Impressive

Thanks...but actually it's more of an annoyance. ::)

“This people’s got it, and this people’s spreading it around...”

That lyric takes on new meaning in our covid-19 era.

Or, my favorite (if it hasn't been posted already), "I Got It From Agnes" by Tom Lehrer:

I love my friends and they love me
We're just as close as we can be
And just because we really care
Whatever we get, we share!

I got it from Agnes
She got it from Jim
We all agree it must have been
Louise who gave it to him

Now, she got it from Harry
Who got it from Marie
And everybody knows that Marie
Got it from me

Giles got it from Daphne
She got it from Joan
Who picked it up in County Cork
A-kissin' the Blarney Stone

Pierre gave it to Sheila
Who must have brought it there
He got it from Francois and Jacques
A-ha!
Lucky Pierre!

Max got it from Edith
Who gets it every spring
She got it from her Daddy
Who just gives her everything

She then gave it to Daniel
Whose spaniel has it now
Our dentist even got it
And we're still wondering how

Ah, but I got it from Agnes
Or maybe it was Sue
Or Millie or Billie or Gillie or Willie
It doesn't matter who

It might have been at the club
Or at the pub, or in the loo
And if you will be my friend
Then I might
Mind you, I said, "might"
Give it to you!

:D
