Well, you've read the notes, the notes had Zoom Mania, and now it is time for you to post until the zooming cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SYNCOPATE!
-
Topic of the Day: I've never Skyped or Face Timed. I did Google Meet one time for a Mamma Mia! rehearsal, but otherwise I've Zoomed for all my online work meetings. I think they got Zoom because it can handle a lot more participants than other apps. The meeting that I went to on Thursday had 151 people! They just had to make sure that EVERYONE's microphone was muted unless they wanted to speak. :o Fortunately, the person hosting the Zoom meeting could mute everyone, and then whoever wanted to speak could just unmute themselves.
-
Today, I'm going back to my parents' house and for probably only the third time since the quarantining happened, the whole family will be together. We used to have dinner together just about every week, so this will be nice.
-
I'll also be finished with all off the recording of the videotapes, so I'll bring those and we can watch a little bit of something. That'll be fun.
-
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept quite well for a change. The cats came and went during the night, but I got plenty of sleep.
-
Today I need to drag out the Big Ladder and put away a lot of cat food. I also need a corner mailbox and bodega run for a few things, and then I don't plan to leave the apartment for the remainder of the day.
-
DR vixmom, I hope your current existence now eases up. I miss you.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD
Haven’t done any of those things. I’ve only used Zoom once so far to attend one webinar in which only the hosts were seen, not the attendees.
-
When I was in LA in 2006 with The Brain From Planet X, Roger, the friend with whom I was staying, would skype me while I was working in the mornings to check in with me. I wouldn't know how to use it now and don't care to know.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished, so I need to head out.
-
DR George, Tom Lehrer and I became friends over the dreadful City Opera mess of Candide. He had seen every version and perversion since the 1956 original, and we both thought - and I still think - the 1958 London version was the best of all possible Candides. I had never realized until you printed out the lyrics to "I Got It From Agnes" just how much it owed to John Latouche;s lyrics for "Ringaroundarosy."
-
How great that you are friends with Tom Lehrer!
-
This morning I'm listening to the complete 1973 "Sondheim: A Musical Tribute," with all the host introductions and numbers that did not make the released recording.

I haven't seen him in years. The last time was in front of the Broadway Theatre, and I cannot remember now what he was seeing. I was just walking by.
Long before I ever found a 1958 London playbill for Candide, I had a photocopy from Tom. He's 92 now, and I hope he's in good health.

Yes, I’m happy that he’s enjoyed a great long life, and I hope that continues.

Whats a "Zoom"?
-
Is that the sound that Superman makes when he flies through the sky?
-
Last night, we watches another Abbott and Costello movie, IN SOCIETY.
Not one of their best, but it does have the "susquehanna hat company" routine in it.
-
THE SUSQUEHANNA HAT COMPANY!!!
:o :o :o
-
I guess you have to be an Abbott and Costello fan to appreciate that.
-
BTW: My new one-person play, BUD ABBOTT ALONE, is currently up for auditions on ACX.
If you know a voice actor who can do a good Bud Abbott (age 69), please have him take a look.
-
Good luck finding the right actor DR DRUXY.
-
Congrats to DR JANE on finding a new doctor!
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on his HMO approval.
-
I believe I saw an infomercial on television for a baldness cure called SYNCOPATE.
-
Where is Page Two?
-
Aha!
-
I have used Webex and Doxy.....but not ZOOM..... I am sure that will change as the summer progresses and we decide what kind of virtual production we will do for the 2020 season at PCPH.
-
I got out my copy of Valley of the Dolls last night and began reading it.
It's quite the page turner. And there are so MANY characters in it that are not even mentioned in the MOVIE - it's not a GOOD book, but it is entertaining.
-
I've been to mailbox and market, and I'm ready for a nap.
-
I read Valley of the Dolls...hmm, maybe ten or twelve years ago, it was definitely before I had come to this site. I would never have expected it to be something I’d be much interested in reading, but boy, was I surprised. You are right, DR Jrand69, it is most entertaining.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Elmore, love that complete Sondheim recording.
-
I need to move, but I cannot. Too tired.
-
I started using Skype too many years ago to remember. Zoom I started using for work about nine months ago. Some outside sales people used it for a presentation. I now use it gor bible study and for happy hour get-togethers. It’s soon to replace Skype st work. WhatsApp has a FaceTime feature, which is free and great for calling Germany.
-
Good morning!
-
Glad to hear that DR vixmom has some time off this weekend.
-
Thanks George and Jrand.
-
Re Zoom: First time I used it was last month when my friend Robin hosted an online birthday party for a certain superstar. We chatted, sang "Happy Birthday," and those of us with cakes blew out the candles. Her concert director showed up for a few minutes. Yes, we are aware that we are crazy.
-
Another (Facebook) group started using Zoom last Saturday. We introduced ourselves and told our stories (mostly about when our fascination with Ms. S began). In the future, members who have had unique experiences (such as attending the taping of "My Name is Barbra" or seeing "Funny Girl" on Broadway) will speak.
-
Bruce, I just read this headline "Americans hit the road for the holiday weekend".

My sister Paula wanted to go to Lowe's and buy some flowers and mulch and top soil.....so I went with her.
I wanted to get a hanging flower basket for the back porch.....and I also got a Sunset Gerber Daisy - which I had never heard of before, but it was very eye catching.
-
That sounds like fun DR KEVIN H.
-
Author Helen Simonson shared her thoughts on not being able to have a funeral for her father during these times.
Rethinking bereavement:

I think it is comforting thoughts for any times when people cannot be together to mourn.

I love Gerbera Daisies. Will there be a photo of this particular one?
-
Just finishing a nap and don’t want to move.
-
I think I hurt my back yesterday doing yard work. Or maybe I am just old.
-
I had a third company come out to do an estimate on residing the house. It’s the best I’ve received but they can’t do the stucco. So I will eventually have to find a company to do the fourth wall.

good luck finding good people.
-
Yes DR JANE I shall take a photograph.
-
I think it's called a Sunset because of the colors...

The flower is about as big as a half dollar coin.
-
It is very pretty. Do you think more will bloom soon?
-
I need to get up and clean, dust, something. I have rested long enough after our 4.5 mile walk in spite of everything hurting this morning.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I did the laundry and am now taking a break. Like Jane, I need to do some cleaning also.
-
I have not used Zoom, Skype, or any other product of that type, nor do I feel any need to do so. I understand how it would be useful for some things, but I don't need it myself. A week or so ago my therapist, who I hadn't seen since pre-Covid, asked me if I'd been staying in touch with friends with Zoom. No, it hadn't even occurred to me. I communicate now as I always have--phone and email. I do miss going out with friends, but don't need a visual for a casual conversation.
-
Several of you have mentioned your feelings about attending religious services under lockdown. I've been interested in your various views. What about eating out once restaurants reopen? Using public transportation? Being out and about in general?
I've been going to those doctors (and my dentist) who are open, but personally am not yet comfortable taking Lyft/Uber/cab. I rescheduled an overdue visit with the ophthalmologist because I'd have to take Lyft. I was told that they are cancelling a lot of appointments and mine might have been cancelled anyway. And I am NOT ready to eat in a restaurant!
-
At some point I'll need to get Brian over here to help with the cleaning. He was here in early March, so that helped. We had no idea then that we'd go into lockdown. I'm not sure what would make me feel comfortable.
-
Vibes to Vixfam for continued progress taking care of Vixgran.
-
Anti-anxiety vibes and pre-surgery vibes to Larry.
-
Vibes to all.

Re gas prices:
The price of crude had plummeted due to the worldwide slowdown in gasoline usage. In the last few days the price has been bouncing back and is up significantly. Thus the rise at the pump. I can't speak to any Memorial Day influence, only general market factors.
-

Is Brian working? If not this might be a good time to have him over to do some work, if he is willing to wear a mask.

I’m not ready. No dance classes. No hair cut. No nothing. I’ve largely bypassed to-go food.

Break is over.
Have a nice weekend, everyone.
TTFN.
-
Bye, Jeanne.

Brian works full-time at Home Depot. As far as I know there's been no change there. He'd wear a mask, but my concern is that he gets lots of exposure to other people, but is young and could be asymptomatic, yet still give it to me.

The food doesn't bother me (maybe it should), but being around others sure does. I especially don't want anyone in my apartment. I could REALLY use a trip to the hairdresser, but am iffy about that--not that they're open here.
-
Bye.

I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of very needed sleep.
-
It's a very rainy day in Manhattan. I'm glad I went out before the downpour began.
-
The cats had a lazy day which was a nice break from the usual romping and frolicking. Thatch came up to my worktable to see what I was writing and get some love. I hope they';re not too freaked out while I'm away.
-
I got eight pages of orchestration written this afternoon. At the moment I'm wondering about dinner.
-
It’s supposed to storm here. But it’s been supposed to storm for the past four days and nary a drop.
-
Watching an unedited version of Henry VI Part 2. The scene where the rabble torments a man because he can write his name and has a book with him shows how little has changed in 400 years.

The guy who came over to give an estimate on siding today asked me if he could come in. I bluntly said no. But when they start work, the workers might need access to a bathroom.
-
Is there one they can easily use that you can avoid?
-
DR JANE there is one other bloom just behind the one in the photo....smaller and still green.
-
No I'm not ready to go out socially for any event......
-
Stucco vibes for DR JOHN G.
-

Good :)

I had a third company come out to do an estimate on residing the house. It’s the best I’ve received but they can’t do the stucco. So I will eventually have to find a company to do the fourth wall.
I think you're supposed to break that one.
-
Saturday evening greetings! Another not-very-productive day for me. I did do some reading on our sunny porch until a storm rolled in. Oh, and our kitchen is cleaned up for a new week of cooking.
-
No packages, no mail = infuriating and now there won't be anything until Tuesday.
-
This Zoom concert from 54 Below is still showing.

Went to Jerry's Deli and brought home a Cobb salad - excellent.

Wasn't there a rule about no groaning at HHW?

And that is why I would never use Zoom for anything - so amateur, terrible sound, video lag - I'm so glad we didn't do any of those things - Skype has a pro version and supposedly you can do all those things but nope.
-
TOD - we do Zoom because that’s been chosen by the leaders of various groups in which we participate. We have not initiated any Zooming ourselves. I use FaceTime to chat with Rebecca, but that requires both parties to have iPhones. For video chatting with Rob and Mary Linda we’ve used Messenger’s video function.

We never used Messenger video before the pandemic, now we are very pleased to have it. It is very easy to use if you are on Facebook.
-
A long time ago we switched from Skype to Google Duo and used that with the kids.
-
I can't believe that there are people who are wanting to back to church. Obviously they want to. But I can't believe that they are actually going to do it. That sounds beyond crazy to me.
-

Public transportation. No. Restaurants. No. Maybe it depends where you live. But I can't even imagine doing those things right now.
-
Thus endeth the three parts of Henry VI.
-
I feel for the reporters interviewing crowds of people all refusing to wear masks.
-
I need some laughs.
-
I think I can trust my hairstylist not to do this, still she is in a salon with other people.
"A hairstylist worked while symptomatic and exposed 91 people to coronavirus"
https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/23/us/missouri-hairstylist-coronavirus-trnd/index.html?fbclid=IwAR1rLgyf_x43mKgf2JVoMW3P83GqoT8JX2OGEdVe1XDF7oyhKYYSHRKHYUs

No one will know for awhile, but exposed does not equal infected and apparently all were wearing masks. I'm gonna guess that no one will get it. And the article is very poorly written - it doesn't actually seem to know if the person who was asymptomatic actually tested positive. And here's my other simple guess: If no one gets it we will not here another peep about this. If ONE person gets it it will be plastered everywhere with no mention of the 90 who didn't get it.
-
We use Go To Meeting for our court hearings in state court. It works very well and the video/audio is very clear, but if course it isn't music. Our Rotary Club does Zoom meetings while the pandemic is on and my PEO group had a Zoom social. I've done several Zoom seminars. My grand nephew called me on Skype once, but it's the only time I used that. I just got my iPad since I don't have an iPhone and have enjoyed visiting with my family on Facetime for the past couple days. I'm the only one in the family who has been alone since Dad died. They have each other and mom has her caregiver, so it's been a comfort to me to see them on Facetime.
-
I was on a zoom seminar that was hacked. A couple young kids saying a lot of foul language and drawing lewd pictures. The host just ended the meeting
-
They are coming to service my air conditioner. I was asked if I was sick and was told that the service tech will be wearing eye protection a face shield, a mask, gloves, and booties. Can't remember if they were going to wear the full suit, but I think she said that too.
-
On the other hand, the guy who came to give me an estimate on a new slider didn't have any PPE at all
-
I'm not planning to go out to eat any time soon, but I may be willing to go out for coffee and sit outside with a mask on or at a distance
-
I mowed my yard today and checked the distance on the app on my phone. I walk 2.5 miles every time I mow my yard.
-
Very restless this evening. Tried movie watching but too fidgety. Listening to music - too fidgety. Went to Gelson's and got a snack, a sweet, very small, came home and ate it. Still restless and fidgety.
-
Someone just told me they got Barone's to go, so I may do that this week.
-

Apparently you have to keep the password private to avoid such takeovers. I don't know if it's that simple. But we're about to find out at work.

Let's move on ...

Five!

That was my first Zoom meeting. I don't remember if I got an email link from the person who led the meeting or I was sent the link by someone else. It hasn't happened since

True and I am watching for more information on this. It will be great if the masks protected everyone. My point about the article is that a sick person continued to work without getting tested and risked spreading it.
-

Did they ask you to wear a mask?
-
Clark County, where I live, was not among the group of Washington counties given the green light to move to phase 2 of reopening. I was expecting my county to be approved, however, there was an outbreak at a Vancouver food processing plant.
-
The Firestone Pacific Foods plant shut down after 38 employees tested positive for the virus.

In total there are 150 employees at the plant.

Shouldn't we be on page 55?

I managed to finish the movie and willed away the restless - now listening to the symphonies of Edmund Rubbra.

Exactly what I thought!

Hi, Tom.
-
How are you doing, tonight?
-
This morning I'm listening to the complete 1973 "Sondheim: A Musical Tribute," with all the host introductions and numbers that did not make the released recording.
I have a copy of the whole show, too. I wish more had been able to be released.

So, when's the HHW Zoom get-together going to happen??
;)
-
Say, we could do an HHW Zoom-together. Let's think about that, that might just be amusing on some level.
-
My sister Paula wanted to go to Lowe's and buy some flowers and mulch and top soil.....so I went with her.
I wanted to get a hanging flower basket for the back porch.....and I also got a Sunset Gerber Daisy - which I had never heard of before, but it was very eye catching.
When I first read this, I thought you got a Sunset Gerber Baby! :o
;)
-
What is not amusing on any level is page five.
-
Page six would be amusing on some level.
-
And yet, here we are on the most unamusing page five.
-
Page five is a dive.
-
Page six is alive.
-
And yet we linger, oh, yes, we linger.
-
Page five is now irritating.
-
Okay, now we're in gaslighting territory.
-
I knew the minute I mentioned gaslighting the page would change. That's how gaslighting works.
-
Whew!
-
At some point I'll need to get Brian over here to help with the cleaning. He was here in early March, so that helped. We had no idea then that we'd go into lockdown. I'm not sure what would make me feel comfortable.

I actually went to Home Depot today to get a basin wrench to replace my sister's kitchen faucet (what a pain!). Some employees (but not all) were wearing masks, and not all customers were, either. I actually wore mine, but even then I never really had to get too close to anyone.
