Title: AND NOW, JULY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes revealed that it was July, and now it is time for you to post until the July cows come home.

I went down a rabbit hole on YouTube!  Someone on FB posted a link, and then I followed that to another, then another, and then this:  THE HAMILTON WORKSHOP: FULL ALBUM!! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZimKbGCKng)

It's a live recording of the workshop version and it's not just someone sitting in the audience.  It sounds really like a professionally made live recording.  The only problem is that the song "Satisfied" isn't complete on this audio-only video.  However, the whole workshop song is available HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL1JMdF33zU)...if anyone's interested. :)

DR TCB, the niece you mentioned in your report, is this your sister's daughter?  If so, I think it may be time for her and her father yo enforce a serious checkup on your sister's mental state.  This is not easy, and I just spent the last couple of years observing a dear friend's father's loss to Alzheimer's.  Ir's grisly for all involved.  I hope it turns out to be nothing.

I slept well, but my left leg should be amputated.  Yesterday morning, after hobbling from pharmacy to bank and home, suicide seemed such a good solution to all my aches and pains.  After going through this past surgery, I am not eager to jump back in for a hip and.or knee replacement.  What I need to do today is contact my principal caregiver at my HMO and ask about gel injections for arthritis.  If I can gain a couple of months relief, I think my mental state will improve along with my irritable mood.

Last night we watched two episodes of Lillie, and we're into the period of her life as the official mistress to the Prince of Wales.  I didn't think much of the actress playing Queen Victoria, mother of the Prince.  I love Francesca Annis, so I need to drag out Roman Polanski's film of Macbeth to see how Ms Annis compares to my sister-in-law as Lady M.

Today is the birthday of my British conductor friend Martin Yates.  The orchestration that I was working on for the past three months was a gift to thank him for the work over the past couple of years.  The nice thing is that it will be delivered today to his home in France.

So, I went to the dentist today for a teeth cleaning, and he didn't clean my teeth.

Why?

Because I wouldn't sign a long legal form that told of all the ways I could get the virus in his office.  Very scary.

So, I put off my cleaning until January.

I brush and floss several times daily; also use a strong mouth wash.

By January, I figure that this thing will be over, or we'll all be dead.

Back from banking.  I decided to take a chance at my local branch and avoid the trip to the other bank.  The line outside wasn't too bad, I found parking space instantly, and the wait was only about seven minutes.  We were able to do everything that needed to be done, so that was good.  The whole thing took fifteen minutes.

Yay for Dollar Tree.

When we were at Safeway the only 3 people in the store not wearing masks were a mother and her two children.  Unfortunately they were right next to me picking out toys to buy.  I wanted to glare at them.  Instead I turned my back to them and finished getting what I needed so I could skedaddle.

"Annie" was the first song I turned to when I got my book and sat down to play through some of it. What I should do is sit down and properly learn the whole thing. I know a couple of gals who would sing the hell out of "Annie" and probably a few others.

Edit:  Also, how fascinating would it be to introduce them to that song in particular, because these are good singing actresses with plenty of familiarity with Annie, but there's no way they would ever have heard of any of this.

I've been feeling lucky, in that people here are consistently masking up in stores and offices. A lot of places have a sign saying you must have a mask on to enter, but I think it's the rule anyway.

As for the doctor or dentist.... that's bizarre. When I went in for my procedure last Friday, I'd already been advised to wear the mask, and that they would check my temperature at the door. And that was it. There was no other hassle.

The only papers I signed were their standard ones relating to the procedure.

Well, we do have some reports of a second pandemic from swine flu coming our way. So, we could be doubling our fun.

I wore my mask yesterday at my eye appointment, and I'm pretty sure that I only signed the standard forms, also.

Do it.  I'd love for some adventuresome kid to do the whole show.

Ended up ordering from Stanley's - I'm still having nightmares from the other day's meal fiascos.  I'll save the lobster roll for the weekend.  I was going to order from Carny's and get a cheeseburger and a hot dog and fries, but the calorie count for my grilled chicken pasta is less than that, so why not.

So I stopped to get gas this afternoon, and it was SO WEIRD because it felt like I was relearning all the steps.

I have a spreadsheet for tracking my mileage and a few other little things, and when I entered today's gas purchase it told me it had been one hundred and four days since I'd last filled the tank. Three and a half months.

I'm afraid these adventuresome kids are more like 21 or 22 years of age, which as I recall wouldn't be appropriate for some of the book. But there are some very talented high schoolers around here. Have to keep that in mind.

I cleaned the dinner dishes - mine and the cats - and took a hot bath.  Annabelle came in and talked to me, mostly about the fact that she wanted her night-time treat, and she refuses to listen when I point out that she's nearly 90 minutes early.  As soon as I stepped out of the tub, she and Thatch both ran to their scratching posts to sharpen their claws as a reminder to me that they want their treat.

I broke down today and bought Artists in Residence, a fundraiser album of songs written by people like Jonathan Tunick, Flaherty and Ahrens, Alan Menken and more in quarantine. I've listened to a few and really like it. Some are fun, a few are sad. Tunick's song, Central Park at Dusk, is beautifully sung by Harolyn Blackwell.

I take Llfe Extension's Fast Acting Joint Formula for pain in general and arthritis in particular. It really is fast-acting. In fact, Life Extension offers a number of products for arthritis. They also have free health advisors available by phone.

Our big plan for today is to visit the public library for curbside pick-up.

"Curbside pick-up" seems to have a number of meanings. I always thought it meant driving through the parking lot to a specifiied spot where you are given a package. I called Best Buy the other day and was told that there it means you park your car, then go inside the store to a specific counter. That could mean being around a lot of people. And how is that different from pre-Covid store pick-up?

At the Dollar Tree almost every customer was wearing a mask - and of course all of the employees were.

In WalMart - I would guess about 20% of the folks were wearing masks....moms there with the kids - no masks.....older folks....no masks.....

I do not understand not wearing a mask. Here the compliance numbers are higher. There are always a few hold-outs, but I'd say 80-90% wear masks.

First off, I am a very very lucky woman. The outpouring of concern and love has made me cry (happy tears) more than once in the last few hours. I love my community and I love you my friends and thank you.

I have decided I'm going to post about how I am doing. Because it's an easy way of getting this information out for the people who are concerned. And because there are many faces to this Covid thing.

First off I went to the doctor because I was feeling achy and stuffy headed had a scratchy throat and some tummy cramps. I have never had a fever. Not at all. So the important take away from this is do not expect fever to be the litmus test for this thing.

When I went into Sea Mar yesterday they gave me two tests. The first has 15-minute turn around but it has a high failure rate. It can often give you a false negative, not so with the positive.
The second test is more reliable but takes two to three days to get back. I came out positive with a 15-minute test. Ethan took the same two tests, but his 15-minute test came back negative. We will find out in a few days. Marko has also been tested with the slower test.

Today, I have no fever. I do not have any severe symptoms. What I do have are muscle cramps, I feel like I can't get warm and my soft palate is swollen and itchy, anything I eat gives me slight abdominal cramping. I woke up sneezing and coughing.
I am isolating in the bedroom, have started doing breathing exercises to try to keep my lungs open and clear. I'm buckling down on my diet. Going even more heavily into keto than I have been for the last few months. It's been a bit wobbly wobbly since we've been in lockdown. It is an anti-inflammatory diet and inflammation is the killer in this disease. So I am being proactive.

That's what I've got for now. Hug the people you can. Wash your hands. Know that I love you. And wear your fucking masks.

Dental offices are tricky because bacteria can be released into the air just by cleaning your teeth. Likewise Covid. But, as my hygienist said, having a mouthful of bacteria won't help you fight Covid.

I don't know how my area compares to others, but the restrictions are usually done on a county-wide basis. I do know that last Sunday bars were told to close due to the increase in numbers. I have not heard anything else. But it's surprisingly difficult to get detailed information. I find the local news much too sketchy. I asked the owners of the Mexican restaurants how they are notified. They said they get news bulletins on their phones, but they have a business. It's difficult to keep up!

Thanks, George. Her symptoms certainly do not sound like the usual ones we've heard about. It's good that she found out right away and can take appropriate measures. I hope that her symptoms do not get any worse and she gets over it quickly. Ethan and Marko are her sons? Vibes to them as well.

Thanks, Jeanne.  Marko is her husband and Ethan is their son.  pug also has two older daughters, but Marko isn't their father, but they're all one big, very happy family. :)

I brush my teeth and floss.

Years ago, I had a dental hygienist that said that flossing should be done first, and I've been doing it that way ever since.  I don't know if it really makes a difference, but to me it seems that if you floss first, you can then brush away all the gunk that's removed by the flossing.

Vibes to pug!

George, is she showing symptoms?

Thanks, Jeanne!  This is what pug wrote on her FB page:

Quote

Getting ready to watch Paulo Szot in Shostakovish’s The Nose. The preview looked hilarious. It’s got animation of the nose, a dancing nose and Lord knows what else.

Pardon the pun.

Yes, ChasSmith. 24 hours. The other good thing is this one is only 2 hours long.

Interesting since in the office they floss last.

We're going to send some Lorna Doone shortbread cookies, Bit-O-Honey candies, a box of individual bags of popcorn, a Costco sized bag of Hershey's Nuggets assortments, Big Hunk candy bars and Abba Zaba candy bars.  Our aunts specified what they like, so that's what we got. :)

Be back later.

To me curbside pickup means they bring it out to your car. I've never heard of what you mentioned.

I agree, Jennifer.

Curbside pickup at the library is slightly different. You call and they place your items on a table in front of the door. Then you can go pick them up. That way you have no communication with the library staff in person, only over the phone when you call to let them know you're there.

How that's working with early voting going on, I don't know.

Just finished with The Nose. It was cool to see Paulo Szot in something fully operatic. I'd only seen him in South Pacific before. The production is strange and wonderful and unlike anything I've ever seen in an opera. Not one of the greats. There's not enough emotionally to take with me, but the satire is pointed and on target. And I liked the music a lot.

Okay, I shall try to catch The Nose tomorrow.

If I miss it I’ll have to settle for Woody Allen’s Sleeper.  (Get it?  GET IT??)

Paolo Szot did a very fine Bernstein Mass, so far the only thing I’ve seen him in besides South Pacific.
