Well, you've read the notes, the notes told the tale, and now it is time for you to post until the telling tales cows come home.

I have no specific plans for the entire weekend, except to watch 1776 and maybe Independence Day.  I know where my Blu-ray to 1776 is, but I'm not sure where Independence Day is.  Hopefully, I'll be able to find it.  If not, I won't watch it. ::)

T.O.D.

I don't recall ever having an "expensive meal".

I've dined at fine restaurants in Los Angeles and elsewhere, but the check was nothing that stood out.

Maybe if I drank alcohol...

Now that I'm moving, I plan to do very very very little today.  I may listen to Dearest Enemy with my full score.  I loved the cast and orchestra and wish I could record more with them, but those days are past.  I'm happy with much of the recording, but the entire experience of those sessions and battling with a difficult musical director, who had been so wonderful on the Eileen recording, was an ordeal.

DR Jane I think that you are right to be cautious with covid cases going up. There is no way that I would get on a plane right now.  I like the idea of renting an RV.

If you went there now would you even be able to go into your son's home?  If he doesn't have a yard then would you have to meet only at public places?

I am relieved that in Quebec (8 million people) the number of new cases for the last week have been between 65 and 90 per day. And thankfully most people are wearing masks in stores. But I'm still nervous going out (which I only started doing recently).  Hopefully the numbers will go down where you are.

No big plans for today. We finally have clear weather again, so we'll be throwing some hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill this afternoon. No official fireworks this year, but we'll no doubt hear plenty of nearby "private" ones this evening.

Other than that, just some tidying up to do around here, and I'm sure some music and movies will figure into it.

We are having brush pickup starting Monday. I had two of my three oak trees out front trimmed back because they had grown over the street. So, there’s a big pile of branches by the curb. Same in front of just about every other house around.

I’m just waiting for one to go up In flames when the fireworks start in the street tonight.

Toni Basil!  Only $10 a lesson!

One year at the annual Dance Convention, my students and I taught a routine to "Mickey" - and the place exploded.  The song had just come out as was headed for Number One.

The kids loved it!  I'm only sorry I don't have photos or video.....both of which had been invented by that time.

I watched about 20 minutes of Russell Crowe's Robin Hood before turning it off in disgust.  I'm too old, life is too short, and the Erroll Flynn and Walt Disney version with Richard Todd are too good.  I think we'll watch some of Julia McKenzie's Miss Marple, beginning with A Pocketful of Rye.

I'm almost positive that my most expensive meals were those paid for on business expense accounts. So I don't have any prices to quote, but we sure ate in some great places.

DR Laura mentioned the Blue Bayou at Disneyland. I'll betcha my truly most expensive meal was the one had upstairs from there, in Club 33, on someone else's private membership. I know those memberships used to cost in the thousands per year, so it's probably billions now. An incredible experience, with acres of wonderful food to die for.

TOD - on my first visit to Paris in 2011 we stayed in a hotel around the corner from Cafe Voltaire.  We’d had a quick lunch there at a sidewalk table and decided a few days later to go inside for dinner.  Well, that was an entirely different story, price-wise!  I don’t know exactly how much it cost and I don’t remember exactly what we ate, but it was worth every Euro!

They are fine with us inside their place.  We are the ones who are nervous.

My Canadian friends talk about people wearing masks and mostly practicing social distancing, which is why the numbers in Canada have been better.  It seems countries that are cautious are far better off than those that are not.  Proof to me that masks do work.

Well, I made a Texas ranch style of potato salad -- new potatoes with an oil-vinegar dressing when it's hot. Then you add celery, green onions, herbs, diced dill pickle and a mayo-mustard-sour cream dressing.

It has to cool off for a while.

My friend Glenn loved foie gras. He ordered it everywhere we went that offered it. Foie gras club sandwich, foie gras burger, seared foie gras, you name it. Everything but pate. Well, a group of about 12 of us decided to get together for a foie gras dinner for his 70th birthday. We did buy a lot of it -- I think it was $75 a pound back then -- and then we made dishes for a potluck around it. I have no idea what that would cost a person these days.

None of us had ever cooked it, so we didn't think about the grease that would soon go flying. Thankfully, the friend who volunteered her kitchen had child-proofed it for her grandkids. And cleanup proved easier than we had thought.

I remember making an Italian white bean and colossal shrimp salad as my dish. My dish alone ran to more than $50, and this was maybe 15 years ago. And I didn't like it. (I do now. It needs to sit longer. I assembled it there.)

Another $50 or so for a bottle of wine to share made that one of the more expensive dinners I recall that were really worth the price.

A friend gave me one of these Polish deviled egg dishes a couple of years ago, jane. Mine holds only four eggs, which is much more manageable than the one for a dozen that Mom passed on to me. Mine's a little different. It has a bird in the middle instead of a bunny. But it has prompted me to make deviled eggs a little more often than I used to. I try new variations when i can. Today's had no pickle in it. But it has Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and Old Bay seasoning for a little kick.

I love the dish.  It would be fun to eat off of.   Is that four full eggs or four halves?  Four eggs is a lot to eat at once.  It would be perfect if Keith still ate deviled eggs.

DR Laura mentioned the Blue Bayou at Disneyland. I'll betcha my truly most expensive meal was the one had upstairs from there, in Club 33, on someone else's private membership. TOD:
Three places come to mind. The first was Valentino, the wonderful West LA restaurant that Barbra liked to frequent. This was in the 1970s. It was a lovely meal. I recall that the prices were more than I felt I could afford. (My date paid.)

The second was a place in West Hollywood, where I was taken for my birthday one year. It was very noisy -- I do not like noise --  and the tables were so close together that I was practically in the guy next to me's lap. The presentation was very good; the food not quite as good. Apparently, it was an "in" place and the diners all seemed very happy to be there. It was a nice gesture from the friend who invited me, but I would have preferred someplace quieter and less crowded.

The third was a restaurant near Santa Barbara, called, I think, The Ranch House. Only two seatings. We all sat in the lovely herb garden. It was a delightful experience.

I agree with John G, although my experience is more limited: higher price does not necessarily mean better food. I look for eateries with good food at affordable prices.

In Japan he met a local for business at the hotel.  Two drinks, a few chips and dip was $100.

American?!?! :o

I dozed off for an entire hour.

I actually took a nap for about an hour and a half.  I really needed it, even though I didn't really do much of anything today.

I got an hour into The Searchers and the disc is apparently defective. I can't get it to play after a certain point.

Oh, no!  How long have you had it?

Today, I slept in, then I got a text from my sister (fortunately, after I had already woken up), saying that she had some leftover strawberry ice cream and strawberry-lemonade donuts and would I want some.

Would I?  Of course!  So I eventually took a shower, got dressed, and went over.

The ice cream (Tillamook) and donuts (I don't know the specific brand, but they were from Costco) were all VERY good!

I cut the donut in half and put the ice cream on it like cream cheese on a bagel.  Yummy!

After the donut and ice cream, I was thinking about going to either Happy Teriyaki or Subway to eat a real meal, but when I drove past Panda Express and saw that people were inside, I decided to go there, instead.

When I got there, I saw that people could only order inside...there was no actual seating for eating inside.  Darn. :-\

But if it’s playing in the teevee machine I suspect I’ll be able to use captions

I would definitely suggest the use of close captioning, especially at the beginning.  There are so many character names and vital bits of information that I was totally lost.  In person, I am sure everything would be a little clearer if you were seeing the show live.  Lin-Manuel Miranda is certainly a powerful force to reckon with.

T.O.D.

Probably the most expensive meal I hav had, was the dinner with Colleen Dewhurst.  Colleen wanted escargot, we all thought that sounded good.  Caesar salad?  Sure, why not.  Dessert?  Perhaps a Courvoisier would be a nice way to finish off the evening.

That is what happens when you try to speed read.  I read yours as Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and Old Spice

You ate in club 33?!

An ex-boyfriend used to love Club 33.  He never took me there.  For some reason, he thought it more important to take his wife and son.
