Title: TWIRLING A BATON AND DOING THE SPLITS
Post by: bk on July 07, 2020, 12:30:56 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes twirled a baton and did the splits, and now it is time for you to post until the twirling cows come home.

I slept rather well.  Annabelle's new sleeping spot is the foot of my bed, which bothers me since I worry that I must kick her all night.  Thatch slept next to my pillow, and I have no idea where Stella slept, but I suspect it was the bathtub.

Last night we watched Miss Marple in They Do It With Mirrors, and I still have no idea how the murder was committed or howe the fat hell Miss Marple figured it out!  Penelope Wilton of Downton Abbey and Joan Collins played wealthy sisters.

After three seasons, Geraldine McEwan abandoned the part, and now Julia McKenzie is Miss Marple.  She's very good, but I think I prefer McEwan.

I can tell from Thatch's behavior that he is waiting for me to make the bed.  Once that's finished and I can lie down, he gets a lot of petting and brushing.

Yesterday, I watched an excellent movie on HBO: MIDWAY (2019).

Terrific special effects, and the film gives you an excellent perspective of what the historic sea battle was all about.

If you get a chance, take a look.

I read about 20 pages in Alexander Dumas’ Dictionary of Cuisine when I couldn’t sleep last night. That included a lengthy section on chicken. I wish I had his budget. His recipes often include a call for five or six truffles to make a roast chicken, not to mention pounds of butter and the like.

Roast chicken with truffles is one of the most incredible meals I’ve ever eaten. If I had to pick my last meal, that would be on the menu.

I’m pretty good at buying a rotisserie chicken at Stew Leonard’s or Costco, and fried chicken from Popeye’s or KFC. And I can’t off the top of my head think of any ways of preparing or serving chicken that I don’t actually like. So bring it on!

But prepare it myself? It’s been years since I’ve put chicken on the grill, let alone tackle anything more elaborate than that. Just laziness, mainly.

LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN is always worth watching......

DR DRUXY I watched MIDWAY on HBO on Saturday night and enjoyed it.....lots of history leading up to it and yes some wonderful special effects.

Some good acting as well.....

I like fried chicken like my Mom used to make.....but I can't have that anymore.  Now and then I get some KFC.

I like to cook chicken for a nice chicken pasta salad or chicken salad like I have in the refrigerator now.

Now and then I will cook some chicken patties - but some of them I don't like.....so I have to be careful what I buy.
I also like to bake some chicken breasts with small potatoes and have some peas and chicken stuffing.....but usually in the colder weather than we have right now.

So I went to Dollar Tree today for a few things.  They had masks, so I got two packages - four masks total.

I decided I was going to go to Goodwill since I hadn't been since March or April.....

But it was too early....they don't open until nine.  So I stopped at Meijer to buy some bananas.

Of course I had my mask on.  I put my bananas in a bag and weighed them.....$2.55 worth.  I headed for the checkout, but only one was open so I walked toward the self check.  I was stopped by a woman who said:  "This is only for people with carts....you can use the checkout."

I said...."Oh, well there's only one open and there's a line....and....well....bananas....."

She said:  "It says carts only on the sign."  She pointed and indeed it did.....say.....carts only.....

Then she said: "Well we have to take a break sometime.  The girl had been on the register for two hours."

There was a lady standing behind me watching this all with much interest and said:  "Two hours......imagine....."

So I tried to decide if I wanted to put my bananas in a cart or go stand in line....I went to stand in line with the lady customer behind me.  She said:  "That was odd."

I said: "Well now I remember why I don't usually come in here."

With the that lady at the self checkout opened a line and took me in.  But of course her register "froze up" and she had to have someone come and do something.

BUT I didn't have to worry about being at the Goodwill too early.  It was open when I got there.  I bought a book about Ocean Liners and two CD's.

THE END.

TOD - I like to roast a whole chicken with a cubed lemon inside.  We have one meal of chicken, rice or pasta, and a green vegetable, then I use the leftover chicken to make a pie or salad (or both if the bird was big enough to begin with).

I also marinate boneless chicken breasts in Montgomery Inn barbecue sauce, then grill them either outside or on the George Foreman.

I have been making caverns out of my paternal grandmother's quilt for Thatch, who likes to play Floyd Collins and hide out in the caves for hours.  This morning, none of my attempts worked, and watching him in frustration try to fold the quilt to work for him was both entertaining and sad.  I finally managed to make a cavern that worked and he's happily napping inside it.

Actually, Annabelle sings it over Thatch's body when they play Floyd Collins. He does like a good show tune, and they both love Randy Rainbow.

Both Thatch and Annabelle are cave dwellers.  She's becoming lately a rather aggressive bully about enforcing her own wishes.  Thatch is so sweet he lets her get away with it.

I like to sauté Vidalia onions with fresh mushrooms then add some chicken stock and halfed  cherry or grape tomatoes. Set aside and keep warm

In same pan brown chicken breasts  on both sides

Then add the cooked veggies and some Marsala wine and cover and simmer on low until the chicken is cooked through

Very nice over rice or egg noodles or even mashed spuds

I was very bad when I went to the grocery store. I bought a bag of cherry-mango popsicles. I've eaten more than half of them in two days. It's been so hot and they're so refreshing, but bad for me.

I feel your pain.  I had a couple of gift cards for See's Candy and the two-pound box arrived last week.  I haven't eaten it all, but I've had more than one piece of candy a day. ::)

Meanwhile, page three is wholly and even halfly unacceptably unacceptable.

I do not comprehend how one day we can get to page eleven with well over 200 posts, and other days we're on page three at 9:00 PDT.

Finished digging one post hole in the heat. I think it's deep enough. The pole is below the fence top but there's still enough to fasten it to the fence.

Congrats.   How many are left?

At least it has been chocolate that doesn't bother my GERD  (severe reflux) too much.
