Title: HOLD THE MALAISE
Post by: bk on September 16, 2020, 12:02:48 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes held the malaise, and now it is time for you to post until the held cows come home.

And the word of the day is: VOTIVE!

Speaking of malaise, The Manhattan Transfer recorded a song called, "Malaise En Malaisie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2FKmNpKNRM), which translates to "Malaise in Malaysia."

DR TCB, Trump has also made references to Biden's being a pedophile, which is quite funny coming from a man accused of raping a minor.

DR Jeanne, I could sure use a personal shopper along with a sherpa.  When I order from Fairway, they substitute things without asking.  My last order for sweet relish substituted Indian Relish.  What the hell is it?

BK, on Sunday I posted your Youtube link to the Cast Recording List.  This morning, this showed up there:
It's archived on You Tube - which I prefer because you can watch on any smart TV without and special teckkie stuff.

I reviewed all Bruce Kimmel's Lost in Boston CDs decades ago. Even if you don't watch the whole thing - you need to watch the first two numbers.  Now to find time to go back and watch previous ones.

Oddly enough, I met him at a little seminar he participated in, at Crossroads of the World, probably just a few months after he won the Oscar for the POSEIDON song.

The theater I usher for is scheduling a lot of virtual concerts, which sounds intriguing. Your admission lets you watch it with a 48-hour period. The first up is Stavinsky’s l’Histoire du soldat with Ravel’s Mother Goose thrown in for good measure. Quite a pair.

So, I haven't been talking about this, but Neve has been going downhill over the last week or so.  It all happened fairly quickly.  She was eating less and not using (needing?) her litter box.  Yesterday and the day before, she wasn't able to stand or walk very easily.  She was able to, just not easily.  Well, this morning, it really went downhill and I put her in my car and took her to an emergency vet.  I knew that I wasn't going to take her home, and I didn't.  Her heart actually stopped before the vets put in a catheter to put her to sleep. :'(

But not too long after I woke up and before I left to take Neve to the vet, I got a call from my mom saying that my dad is in the hospital.  He was in pain all night.  She got him up and was going to take him to the hospital when he collapsed at their front door.  She was able to catch him and let him down gently.  That's when she saw that his feet were white.  The ambulance people got him to the hospital and they found that he has a couple of issues that would need surgery (including amputating his legs), but my mom said that with his age and dementia that he probably wouldn't survive the surgery (she's a retired nurse, so she knows), so they're just going to keep him comfortable.  That's all I know. :(

I have not.  Not talented enough or knowledgeable enough to do such things.  I did have a friend who played the oboe and I tried to write a piece for oboe and piano - in fact, I did write it, but knowing nothing about the oboe or its ranges, it was a joke.  Nice tune, though.

Not a peep. One announcement I’d read referenced the 17th, so we’ll see if tomorrow brings any solid news.

You are so fortunate to have Suad. The couple of guys I got ahold of back in June were my own personal heros/guides in getting me into the program, but they’ve since cut way back on telephone access to anyone in our DOL — which is just barbaric, but that’s the way it is.

MEGA condolences to DR  George! So sorry to hear the news.

As for Neve, it clearly was her time to go and you don't have to worry that maybe you shouldn't have had her put to sleep. You two had many good years together. She was a lovely cat.

Your mother seems quite sensible and I'm sure will make good decisions regarding your father's care. I hope he will be comfortable.

Re malaise:
I've often felt a let-down once a project was over. You'd think you'd be over the moon and ready to celebrate, but that isn't always the case.

I have a friend who's a telephone psychic. He has clients all over the world. He tells me that there are days when he's inundated with calls, and everyone seems to be feeling rattled at once. You'd think people would be calling with their own issues, quite independent of others, but his call patterns suggest otherwise. The other day was one of those days.

And, lastly, how could anyone not be affected by all the bad news?

Great.  I am pleasantly surprised you were able to drive yourself to the appointment.  It sounds better than relying on a ride.

I actually prefer to get a ride to many medical appointments. I get nervous when I have any sort of procedure coming up and would rather leave the driving to someone else. I'd planned to arrange rides for today, but was so put off by the taxi driver last week, both his rude impatience and his abstention from wearing a mask, that I chose to drive myself. Had this not been Covid, it might have been different. You just can't distance properly in a car. I'd like to see taxis retrofitted or redesigned to have a safe passenger area.

DR Jeanne, I could sure use a personal shopper along with a sherpa.  When I order from Fairway, they substitute things without asking.  My last order for sweet relish substituted Indian Relish.  What the hell is it?

Substitutions seem to be the biggest obstacle in delegating grocery shopping. DR Ginny's weekly Kroeger curbside arrangement seems to work well for her, but wouldn't work for me. I clearly need help and was very pleased to learn about Jason's business. He'll go to several stores in a row, if needed, and has a Costco membership, which we non-members can take advantage of. This could really help me out. I hope to keep him!

DR Jeanne I was telling Keith how great it is you found your personal shopper.  Vibes you do get to keep him.

Back from a great meal outside at the Smoke House.  I was a very good boy - shrimp cocktail, cup of clam chowder, and a wedge salad with 1000-Island dressing.  Oh, and four pieces of garlic cheese bread, not as bad as it sounds as they're very thin and small - imagine a six-inch Subway sandwich - take the top half of that and slice into fifths - I had four of those five.  That and the 1000-Island dressing were the worst of the calories so I'm guessing I didn't go over 1000.

After my two posts earlier today, I came home and hung out, then I met my friend Margo at the local Eagan's burger joint and we chatted and ate.  My friend Judy works there, so I broke the news to her.  Just a few days ago, Judy posted on FB that HER brother had just died!  He had Downs and Alzheimer's, but still, it was a shock to her, too. :(

I came home and called my sister.  We talked a bit, then I went over to her house.  Around 3:30 my mom called and told us that my dad finally died around 3:00 pm.  Before then, the doctors made sure that he was comfortable.  He had last rites, so that's good.  She sat with him and remembered him and then he finally passed.  She didn't want us coming over yet.  She just wanted to spend some time alone and process everything and decompress.

We're all going over tomorrow at some time, and then we'll be together.  We also made calls to their friends and other family who needed to know, so that's taken care of.

In a town hall meeting we had last week, someone mentioned that he wanted to go and throw out the plant on his desk that by all rights should be dead now. Turns out the cleaning staff has been doing their part to keep all of the plants watered and alive.

There were a couple of people who came into my work while everyone was gone and took care of plants, too.  I was going in kind of regularly, but I don't know enough about plants to have helped.

Thanks so much, Jane.  Yes, she's strong.  Part of it is the stereotypical German stoicism, but it's probably mostly because she was a nurse for many years and saw a LOT, so she knew what to expect.

Listening to Byron Janis work his brilliance with the Rachmaninoff second and third piano concertos on Mercury - these are great-sounding performances in Mercury Living Presence - I have the SACD version, but even the CD layer is absolutely stunning.  I think Mr. Janis does these as well as anyone ever has.

I am here mainly to apologize to you all.

I didn't depart HHW due to any tiff or disagreement, or leave in a huff. I simply felt that to be a full participant here at HHW, I needed to read every word of BK's daily notes and every word of every DR's posts. And I came to a time in my life where I didn't feel I was able to make that commitment.

I truly regret that I didn't communicate that clearly to you all at the time.

I still don't know that I can make that commitment now. However, due to surgery I will be undergoing on Friday, I will have some enforced recuperation time after I am released from the hospital. So I thought I might dip my toe back in the HHW waters.

I do sincerely apologize to anyone that felt hurt by my actions.

When I went back to see all the babies, this one adorable little kitten came rushing to the front of her cage trying to get my attention.  She kept reaching out between the bars and wanting me to pet her.
