Title: ROSH HASHANAH OR THE JEWISH NEW YEAR
Post by: bk on September 19, 2020, 12:04:35 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes wished everyone a Happy Rosh Hashanah Jewish New Year, and now it is time for you to post until the Jewish cows come home.

And then - earthquake - not much but I got off my chair and screamed at the top of my lungs, "STOP IT ALREADY!  ENOUGH!"  I like to think it worked

God, I hope it worked.

So, one of the channels on YouTube to which I subscribe is the Stratford Festival (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_1Ricuv8kk5oUwJn4K4r7Q) in Canada.  They just posted this excerpt of "Seventy-Six Trombones (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EOqh_s7kOo)" from their 2018 production of "Meredith Willson's The Music Man." ::)

One comment likes the choreography (really?? ??? ), but another comment is, "So, not to nitpick, but shouldn’t there have been some trombones in there?" :o

And they RAVED about it.  I suspect they take down any negative comments and I'll know that shortly since I just left one.  It wasn't nasty, just real:  If I want to see Hamilton I'll see Hamilton.  And the song is not called 76 Drums, it's called 76 Trombones.

DR singdaw, the gas in your shoulder area is truly horrible.  I had honestly forgotten about that or I would have warned you.  How many incisions do you have? Are they glued shut?  I had five incisions, which surprised me since only two things were removed, and it took weeks for the glue to start peeling off.

I am honestly not sure how many incisions I have. I know there were several, as it was robotic surgery.  And a longer one through which the kidney was removed. They are all covered up with white tape, and I imagine you're right that they won't go away easily; sort of like those damned stickers on supermarket apples.

None of my incisions were covered with tape, just big globs of dried glue.

Sorry DR GEORGE that is just the type of "look at me I made it better" staging that I really don't appreciate......had it been done to a contemporary song, I think I would have enjoyed it much better.

Saturday.

I got my script for A Christmas Carol.....I have a total of ten lines....I think I can do it.

My number of lines increase if I do some dance calling under dialog.....but I think since this is a radio script that we are doing on ZOOM, that section may be cut.....I will find out tomorrow when we do the ZOOM read thru.

I am now under the impression that not ALL of the students are on campus and that some of them will be doing their sections from their homes.

I left way before dawn today to get a parking spot at the mountain. I waited until it was light enough to hike. People were hiking in the dark, but I probably would have tripped.

I was about two minutes too late to see the rattlesnake on the trail. By the time I got there, he had slithered off the trail and blended in with the desert.

Happy New Year to those who celebrate.

We made all of the food and then had people stop by to pick it up.  We decided not to eat all together. It's quite cold today to eat outside tonight. And we don't think that we should all eat at a table inside due to covid.

I am looking forward to having some yummy matzah ball soup tonight.

Now if only my eyes would stop hurting and my vision back to its normally shitty condition.  I am far from the only person complaining of headaches.  At least I am not more dizzy than usual as others are.  Last night when the pain slammed into me I almost got up to use the  oximeter to check my oxygen levels but didn't want to bother Keith.  I think there may be a connection.  This morning the numbers were ok.

They usually eat in the early mornings, so most of them are still there....but they'll probably be gone when I get up.....tomorrow.

Food was good - I decided on Togo's - haven't been in at least four years.  They no longer have the chicken salad sandwich I liked, so I got a "regular" (six-inch) pastrami for the  main meal and a "mini" (three-inch) salami and provolone for the balance of the meal.  The pastrami was great, and I just finished the salami, also very tasty.  It was a good choice and pretty inexpensive.  The two were 1200 calories, which is fine.  No more food today.

Annaliese found two of Dad's old yearbooks. Very funny stuff. In the back, where there was a page for "Autographs," he had an engineering equation mapped out.

In the small yearbook (about the size of a theatrical souvenir book), she found a mention of him being one of the four quiet ones in his class.

I found a listening his senior year in which William Henry Griffin listed his nicknames: Bill and Elmer. No one ever called him Elmer as far as we know. We're still scratching our heads at that.

We also found all of the photos that didn't make his albums. It was about 10 for every photo he saved.

Then tonight we played dominoes. I had to teach Mom the rules again, which is kind of sad, because she had used dominoes to teach me how to add quickly back when I was six or seven and wanted in on the action.

Mom thought she had sold off all his stamps, but there were some good ones in there. Too bad no one wants that stuff any more.

What will you do with the stamps?

That's what I was thinking.  I know a couple of people who still collect stamps.

The will have a vigil Friday night, then a liturgy on Saturday morning, and I guess that that will be open to up to 30 people who must be distanced.

More people can be in their cars and listen on their car radios on a specific station, like the way drive-ins broadcast their movie soundtracks instead of through wired speakers.

My dad wanted the full military salute, so my niece doesn't mind leaving for that one part.  Since it's outside, she should be able to go into the church and wear her noise-cancelling earphones, and then come back out when it's done.

Yeah.  He originally wanted to be buried, but years ago my mom talked him into getting cremated (it's a lot less expensive), and he was okay with that, but he wanted the military guns.

I miss going places, not the flights.  I seems to work when they fly over pretty scenery and can move around on the plane for views.  No luggage needed reducing the pre-travel stress.

The flights are in locations with very low covid numbers.  I suppose if they landed elsewhere they would have to quarantine once they returned.

DR TCB did you see this story about what really might have sunk the Titanic?

https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/solar-flare-actually-sunk-titanic-194900308.html

Actually, Jane, the article doesn’t really address the solar flares were responsible for the sinking, rather than the iceberg.  The solar flares may well have caused the incorrect bearings being sent out by the Titanic, but that had nothing to do with hitting the iceberg.  Or the rescue of the survivors.

It was always known that the position sent out from the Titanic was wrong, but it wasn’t known how far off the position was until the wreckage was found by Mr. Ballard and company.  In fact, the fact that they were about 13 miles from where the wreck was found was why it took so many years to find it.

One more thing about those nasty icebergs back in 1912.  The positions sent out regarding the spotting of icebergs were not much help to the Titanic due to the hours that had passed between when the iceberg Was spotted and also the ocean’s currents.
