Well, you've read the notes, the notes were collected, and now it is time for you to post until the collected cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RAMBUNCTIOUS!
-
Last night, Tom wrote: "I hope all went well for George and his family today." I missed this. Then, a little later, Tom wrote: "I hope the day went okay for you and your family." And I missed that post, too! :-\
Now that I've caught up with all of yesterday's posts, I can say, "Thanks, Tom! It did!" :D
-
~~~Vibes for a Little Miracle or Two for BK!!~~~
-
And now, I'm going to sleep. Today is my sister's birthday, so we're all getting together for that. That'll be good.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR George, as family deaths go, I think it's wonderful that your dad had a humdinger of a sendoff. It's nice to celebrate a birthday today. The cycle continues.
-
I had a rough night, and Annabelle and Thatch stayed with me throughout. I had the beginnings of another nightmare like the one the night before with the Wicked Witch of the West and the zombies, and I woke just past 11:00. The rest of the night was restless. I had a dream about a Siamese cat but I remember nothing else. I will most likely nap part of the day.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I thought I had received my absentee ballot yesterday. What I got was a pamphlet on how to vote absentee! So I just emailed them - again - and asked for an absentee ballot.
-
I need to pay a few bills for October this morning.
-
Well, that was an amazing set of notes about book collecting.
It’s sobering to be reminded what real collecting is, as opposed to what the rest of us dabble in. But I will eat up that documentary even though it doesn’t cover the book world as BK knows it.
-
I bought that Mississippi Mermaid but have yet to watch it.
-
My last few nights of dreaming have been indistinct as far as my recall is concerned. I did have a short nightmare a couple of nights ago, from which I quickly awoke as I tried to scream something in the dream. No zombies or witches, just normal stuff going bad. :)
-
So, today and tomorrow are to be in the high 70s, then it’s cool again for a while. That would all be fine with me, if not for the fact that they’re throwing some rain in there, damn them. We need a complete overhaul of the weather forecasting business.
-
I’m remiss in not having brought my keyboard and other equipment in from the car after Wednesday night, so that’s happening today. I did some straightening and cleaning of the Music Room in preparation for it, so things will feel good in there. In normal times, indulging in such sloth wouldn’t be possible.
-
But enough from me!
I now turn the floor over to.......
-
The New York Animal
Concentration Camp Care Center is now photographing new arrivals in an autumnal setting. If I could, I would adopt little 33-lb Greenie in a heartbeat.
-
I read that as "going bald."
-
Well, I'm getting a little tired of listening to Bach motets and cantatas this morning. And it's time for breakfast.
-
Just because I cannot get enough of Greenie!
-
Alas, that one was years ago...and when I woke up, it wasn’t a dream!
-
Greenie is indeed a cutie.
-
Had a strange dream about a massive performance. I had somehow forgotten my pants, and I had to lead the choir rehearsal.
-
I have several "complete" sets of the Bach cantatas. Haven't listened to any in a long while.
-
I do wonder about something they said in the "Bookseller" documentary about collectors. For some, the hunt for the object is more fulfulling than owning the object, in the end.
-
This DVD popped up in my Amazon suggestions and it sounds interesting. Has anyone seen it?
-
I do wonder about something they said in the "Bookseller" documentary about collectors. For some, the hunt for the object is more fulfulling than owning the object, in the end.
Not for me!
-
Haven't seen that, although I do understand that the Victorians were obsessed with death portraits.
-
TWO?
-
Yes, two.
-
DR George, thank you for sharing your day with us yesterday. Glad that things went well and were meaningful for your and your family.
-
Haven't seen that, although I do understand that the Victorians were obsessed with death portraits.
And dead baby portraits in particular. I think I learned about those first.
-
Good morning.
-
Photography was expensive back then. A post-mortem photo might be the only photo of your relative.
-
It was very nice out for my walk this morning. So nice to be under 90F early in the morning.
-
Photography was expensive back then. A post-mortem photo might be the only photo of your relative.
Yep.
-
I first learned about the death photography in the 1973 book Wisconsin Death Trip, which really creeped me out 50 years ago. Then there's this tasteful new one.
-
That's it! I didn't buy it, but I browsed a lot of Wisconsin Death Trip in bookstores. That was where I, too, was learning about this.
-
Nice notes.
-
Nice to hear from DR MATTHEW yesterday.
-
I appreciated DR GEORGE's posts yesterday.
-
I made some Sloppy Joes today which I will enjoy today....and probably for the next three days.
I have a rehearsal/meeting tonight at 6 p.m.
Board President sent me a copy of the 2021 Fund Raising Letter for my suggestions. I only suggested that he give them a thanks for their 2020 support that allowed us to meet our obligations even though we didn't have a season and income from season and individual ticket sales.
-
Now I am going to watch The Partridge Family event.
-
mmmmm..... sloppy joes.
-
My second cousin once (or is it twice?) removed, in Morgantown, West Virginia, has a homemade recipe that's simple but delicious, and its original claim to fame when I was being introduced to it is that the filling holds together better than many Sloppy Joes. I need to take that out and enjoy some.
-
DR Elmore, do you watch Kitten Academy on youtube? It's a foster home.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3PA5rqwAEQ
-
Tom please say hello to Sharry and have a nice lunch.
-
From DR George:
The two men ceremonially unfolded the flag, then snapped it fully open for a few moments, then ceremonially refolded the flag and gave it to my mom. It was VERY moving and touching.
It is, especially when the flag is for your father.
-
I too believe the flags are provided by the military.
-
The flag resting on your father's urn is very moving. We have one from Keith's father's service.
-
DR George I am sorry I couldn't stay awake long enough last night to be here when you returned. I am glad the service went well and hope you found it comforting. Thank you for sharing the photos and details. Sending more hugs.
-
And now, I'm going to sleep. Today is my sister's birthday, so we're all getting together for that. That'll be good.
Have a good day, all!
Happy birthday to your sister who shares the day with Craig.
-
I hate to do math on Sundays (or most any other day).
I ordered half a duck for lunch, but probably didn't eat a third of it. If that remaining duck is moving at 5 mph out of track 3 while the duck I ate is sitting comfortably in my belly, what will I have for dinner tonight?
I'm thinking leftover pizza.
-
Happy birthday to your sister, George. Glad to get to celebrate a life in the midst of all you've gone through.
-
I used my head as a RAMBUNCTIOUS once, but it hurt too much to ever do it again.
-
I have never had any leftover pizza. I'm too much of a glutton.
-
Mom is taking a short nap. Then we're doing to the park near the cemetery where Dad is buried. We used to go there when I was a kid. I remember ponds and ducks and all sorts of weeping willow trees, really serene.
-
DR ChasSmith - please share that recipe if you find it.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Three!
-
Sounds lovely, DR John G.
-
I have never had any leftover pizza. I'm too much of a glutton.
I usually am, too. But we had some substantial appetizers before the pizza. The arancini were like deep-fried macaroni and cheese balls, only with rice instead of pasta. And we had some sausage-stuffed mushroom halves with a mountain of cheese melted on top. then we had two pizzas.
-
We just watched the 2015 film version of Ahrens and Flaherty's Lucky Stiff. Fun!
-
One could almost gain a lot of weight just reading HHW.
-
One could almost gain a lot of weight just reading HHW.
Tell me.
-
DR Laura, I've never seen the Kitten Academy before, but I've now subscribed to it. Thanks!
-
I lay about and napped with Stella and Annabelle for a bit.
-
Good afternoon!
-
I'm glad to hear that everything went well, DR George.
-
I enjoyed the Partridge Family reunion on youtube, BK! Loved seeing the clips of you!
-
I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep. Got up at eleven-thirty and dealing with a touch of merde soon thereafter, but hopefully that will go away by the end of this day.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! Yesterday afternoon we had a video chat with Charlotte and her parents and in the evening we had a socially distant patio dinner with friends. I made lasagna, Sharon made a salad, and our hostess Marianne made garlic bread and chocolate mousse. Richard, Tom, and Steve (and their wives) ate and drank heartily and enjoyed the in-person conversation.
-
Nice.
-
Good Afternoon. I am done with my church duties for the day. Got the car washed now I'm home futzing with the old video camera. I've been a crusade of digitizing things, so it's like Christmas whenever I put in a video tape because I have a bad habit of not marking things.
I'll probably go for a bike ride and then return and get things ready for the week.
-
We had a nice long birthday chat with Craig. He spends most of his time on the computer planning classes and trying to teach. It is sad the hours of work he puts in each day doesn't offer much reward.
-
Yes I would like a recipe that gives the secret of the sloppy joe staying together.
I have changed my shirt twice.
-
I shall now be on my way to the ZOOM rehearsal.
I enjoyed the Partridge Family get together very much....I liked when MR BK showed up upside down.....no one else even commented on it, that I heard.
-
A sacred Erev Yom Kippur to those who celebrate.
-
DR Jane - bless Craig, and all teachers who are doing such important work at this time. They are working so hard to pull things together, at great personal cost and without much acknowledgement (or compensation for the extra effort).
-
We are watching Kol Nidre services at the Temple where DH Jayson plays. Everything was pre-recorded over the past month.
-
Thank you. What shocks me the most is the amount of time that is required to teach from home. Everything is new. He said the other teachers at his school are all working as hard.
-
Lovely. I haven't watched this year.
-
Funny stuff - was nuking stuff from iTunes and came upon two Saint-Saens piano concertos with Philippe Entremont doing the pianistics. I forgot how much I love his playing and these were magnificent performances with the added magnificence of Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra. So, I looked up to see what else was available, as I could see I had two other concertos with him playing. And I came upon a wonderful original jackets box from 2014, which Amazon told me I bought in 2014. So, out to the garage I went and found it right away, brought it in and began loading the other seventeen albums, which I realized I hadn't even gotten around to listening to! Disc one, recorded in 1950 in glorious Columbia stereo sound is Grieg's piano concerto - great performance, coupled with Rachmaninov's Rhapsody, also spectacular.
-
A sacred Erev Yom Kippur to those who celebrate.
I'll second that greeting.
It was interesting. The sermon this morning would have made a good message for Yom Kippur. It was essentially calling for everyone to take stock and atone for past mistakes.
-
Why did the art thief's van run out of gas as he drove away from the museum?
-
Because he had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh.
-
Let's move off this page...
-
FOUR!
-
As they say in golf.
-
So I hear.
-
I am not familiar with the Saint-Saens concerti. I suppose I should be. Something to remedy!
I like all the French!
Really warm weekend here. I think it was more than 85F today.
-
It is currently a comfortable sunny 71 degrees. By tomorrow we should reach 81, and 85 by Wednesday.
-
I purchased a pretty new soap dish today as I can't find any liquid or foam soap that I can tolerate. Target will let me order 4 bottles of the Method foam coconut soap but there is a catch. I have to order $35 more in order to purchase the foam soap.
-
Time is running out fast on this trip. I leave Wednesday.
-
It's going to be hard.
-
Time, be my friend. Help me start again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWfJlI8Wq3M
I love this song.
-
And here's an unknown Whitney Houston singing it, too, on the Merv Griffin show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf9P-_zvplo
-
Finished with my viewing and listening to Mr. Entremont.
-
I wonder what Mr. Entremont orders as an entree when he dines out.
-
I wonder what Mr. Entremont orders as an entree when he dines out.
Something from Entenmann's?
-
I'm fading.
-
Good night, all.
-
Taking an Entremont break to listen to Mr. Bach's St. Matthew's Passion with Klemperer - it's pretty gorgeous.
-
Enjoying the Bach - very long but very good. Each disc is over seventy-five minutes, there being three discs - I believe it's the slowest recording but I love the sound and the band and the singing so who cares.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Most unseemly.
-
Taking a break from Mr. Bach and have gone bach to Mr. Entremont doing Rachmaninov 1 and 4.
-
It's going to be hard.
I am sure. Is there any chance of extending it or doing it again in the future?
-
DR George, as family deaths go, I think it's wonderful that your dad had a humdinger of a sendoff. It's nice to celebrate a birthday today. The cycle continues.
Thanks, Larry. Today was a good day.
-
My family all got together at my mom's, as well as my niece's aunt and other grandmother (her late father's sister and mother, whose birthday is also today...and ALSO named Diane!), as well as my niece's late father's wife, and several other family friends.
-
After my sister and her husband got divorced, both sets of parents stayed friends. There was never any animosity between them.
-
While at my mom's, she said that anyone who wanted any of my dad's books or DVDs or CDs could take them.
-
So several people got some things, including my niece's stepmom.
-
My sister's boyfriend got a few, too.
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
I went through and took probably three dozen DVDs! ;D
-
I did forget to gets some CDs from their extra bedroom, so I'll get those when I go back to put up a new curtain rod in my mom's extra bedroom.
-
My dad's library, which used to be MY bedroom, is now my mom's study.
-
She really likes the recliner that she got for my dad, so she'll keep that.
-
Also, my dad pretty much only used his computer to play Bookworm and other games (he never went online), so she'll keep and use that when she needs a desktop computer instead of her laptop.
-
After EVERYONE has taken any DVDs or books or CDs, I'll take some things and see what the library has and donate those.
-
For the most part, the library really only takes things that they already own and are in good condition...nothing smelly or wet or damaged, of course.
-
But if they don't own it, unless it's really important or of local history, they usually don't want to add just one copy of something.
-
It'll be a process, but it won't be difficult.
-
DR George I am glad all is going well.
-
Thanks, David.
I appreciated DR GEORGE's posts yesterday.
Thanks, Jrand.
The flag resting on your father's urn is very moving. We have one from Keith's father's service.
Here's how my mom has the flag in her bedroom right now. I still need to order a frame for it:
-
Here's where mom is keeping dad's urn...it was his side of the bed:
-
And here's a close-up. I should've moved the lampshade to be able to see his picture better. ::)
-
DR George I am sorry I couldn't stay awake long enough last night to be here when you returned. I am glad the service went well and hope you found it comforting. Thank you for sharing the photos and details. Sending more hugs.
Thanks, Jane. It was comforting.
Happy (belated now, though) Birthday to Craig!
Thanks, John! Today is also her ex-mother-in-law's birthday! :D
-
We just watched the 2015 film version of Ahrens and Flaherty's Lucky Stiff. Fun!
I really enjoyed it...not everyone here did, though (but that's okay, too). ;)
I also really liked the idea that someone even wanted to do it, at all! The performers were pretty good, and they got Broadway talent to do it.
-
I'm glad to hear that everything went well, DR George.
Thanks, Kevin!
Apologies to TCB for not responding to his inquiry last night.
According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Byck):
Byck is one of the (failed) assassins portrayed in Stephen Sondheim's and John Weidman's 1991 musical Assassins. His role in the musical is built largely around his tapes sent to Leonard Bernstein and other famous public figures, which he is depicted recording during two scene-length monologues, the first addressed to Bernstein and the second to Nixon himself. Byck also wears a Santa suit throughout the play in reference to a photograph of him protesting Nixon.
-
Because he had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh.
No groaning allowed at HHW!
Interesting...Byck was born almost exactly two months before Stephen Sondheim...January 30, 1930 and Sondheim was born March 22, 1930.
I only saw the Lakewood Playhouse production, but I was not crazy about it. Of course, I wasn’t crazy about WEEKEND AT BERNIES either.
I did the same with Dad’s collection.
Can’t sleep.
My dad wouldn't, but people HAVE donated items like that to the library. And existing library items have been returned by patrons in those conditions. :P
Interesting...Byck was born almost exactly two months before Stephen Sondheim...January 30, 1039 and Sondheim was born March 22, 1930.
You had better adjust those dates.
Allergies.
-
Listening to Bernstein's brilliant The Age of Anxiety symphony with Entremont doing the wonderful piano part. And aren't we just living in the age of anxiety.
-
I took a pill - I thought it was working but I'm still sniffling, which is annoying, but it mostly affects my throat, with lots of throat clearing and phlegm.
-
I gotta tell you...
-
Why I oughta...
-
And then I wrote...
