Well, you've read the notes, the notes were December-like, and now it is time for you to post until the December cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BENEFICENCE!
-
Topic of the Day: I've only seen 8½ and Nights of Cabiria...and not all the way through. ::) But what I saw, I really did enjoy!
-
I'm outta here.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have no idea what will turn up on today's agenda beyond my usual bouts of picking up after the cats.
-
DR Matthew, are you unpacked?
-
DR Jrand70, I hope your dental crises are soon behind you.
-
DR vixmom, have you recovered from your holiday?
-
A Christmas Gift From Bob is now available from Amazon.co.uk as a Region 2 DVD.
-
Today is World AIDS Day. Light a candle, say a prayer for those you miss.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Thanks for the reminder, Elmore.
-
I can't think of anything to say.
-
And I just said it.
-
Glad to hear that bk's Thing went well.

TOD:
Fellini is a director who seemed to start believing his own press too much for his own good. His early films are extraordinary. Some of his later films are pure crap (City of Women, Satyricon, Casanova). Only Amarcord and Intervista among the later flicks work for me without over irritating me.
I have half of the contents of this Fellini set already, so I held off buying it. Nice to know White Sheik is in such good condition.
-
Glad to hear that bk's Thing went well.
Excellent news.
-
Congrats to MR BK & Co on getting the project in the can.
IMPORTANT ENVELOPE VIBES CONTINUE.
-
Thank you DR ELMORE - I have pretty much decided to do the project in TWO sections..... I need to check with my sister to see if she is traveling to Baltimore/Point of Rocks this year, because she will be taking me and picking me up on the day of the B I G push.....or....uh.....pull as the case may be.
-
TOD:
I shall have to see the lists of the other DRs - I know some Fellini films.....but I can't say that one or the other is a favorite.
-
Glad to hear that bk's Thing went well.
Ditto!
-
I haven't seen that many Fellini films:
La Strada, which bored me in college; I should watch it again.
Cabiria, which I like more than Sweet Charity, but I miss Cy Coleman
La Dolce Vita, which I thought of as Nashville in Rome
Juliet of the Spirits, great color and fantastic Nino Rota score
Satyricon, which I compare to Kubrick's The Shining, since both films missed the good points of their source material
-
Since watching The Court Jester, I've been on a Mildred Natwick movie kick. Last night I watched 30 minutes of Barefoot in the Park, which I hadn't seen since its first release. Hated it. I couldn't believe Redford's character would ever marry such a flake as Jane Fonda's young bride, and her rather complete apathy toward his first court case infuriated me. Then I thought about what an ass he was, letting this flake rent such a pathetic apartment, and it was over for me.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I've watched very little Fellini in comparison with other "foreign films" that I've seen many times over since college. For whatever reason, the Italian style in general had less of an appeal to me than others.
I still have a few Fellini films on Criterion laserdiscs, like Satyricon, that I never completed watching! I've watched 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, but not in some years now. I enjoyed Toby Dammit in the Spirits of the Dead trilogy. Shockingly, scandalously, I have never seen Cabiria. That and every other failing will be rectified when I get the Criterion set, which at this point will probably be during their next crash sale in February or March. I do have some of the individual Blu-ray releases that I'll make an effort to ketchup on in the meantime.

By the bye, we put off the cutting of a tree till this coming weekend. Thanksgiving weekend has been the tradition, but we have twice before deviated due to schedules and whatnot, and it turned out that there was a lot going on here last week. We'll go up to the tree farm on Saturday, set the tree up to "relax" overnight, and decorate it Sunday evening.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

My standard PayPal address may be used, thank you in advance.

Hi All.....another new radio show is up. It's the holiday season; so, I'm doing a series of Holiday Gift Guide shows for 2020. This episode is an interview with the amazing Maxine Linehan. Maxine is originally from Ireland, but now resides in Vermont....she's a talented theatre and cabaret performer. Her new holiday album This Time Of Year is one of the best of the year! A real treat and it was a delight to chat with her! Enjoy!!!

Good morning!

Tuesday morning greetings! At noon today I'll be Zooming to the book discussion hosted by the director of the library where my career began. I only got about one third of the way through Eric Larson's The Splendid and the Vile. I just wasn't in the mood for surging fascism last month - go figure.

Ladies and gentlemen, THE PIE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.
For a late breakfast, I just polished off the last of the pumpkin pie with a mountain of whipped cream. Along with a fresh cup of Green Mountain Dark Magic, that was a little bit of heaven.
-
So what's for lunch?
-
Petco's site is screwed up this morning and I have been unable to place an order. I am not happy.
-
From DR George:
Umm, Jane...is that supposed to be "later" years??
That's one really weird autocorrect! :o
"hks ñare"
hks, obviously a typo which should have been i instead of k.
ñare is my darn international keyboard on my tablet. It is an example of the strange auto correct spellings I deal with.
-
DR George, wow, to your saving the library book.

All the people involved in the filming of the Group Rep plays had to get tested. Weirdly, that's all we had to do and the deal was no more than three days before the shoot. We'd planned to do Friday but could get no appointment anywhere, so we did it Saturday morning. So, I didn't actually have the result yesterday. It came this morning and...

That's funny. I am glad my group read it in February. It was actually interesting comparing Churchill's leadership during the war, especially during the bombings. He inspired the people to stay strong and do what was necessary while understanding the hardships.

DR George I am glad you encouraged me to get the Pierce library card. I now need one for Keith as our Ashland accounts have expired. They have given me a one week extension to retrieve my book information.

Melania Trump's Christmas Video!

I love it! She's the ONLY thing that I'm going to miss with Biden in office. ;)
-
DR George I am glad you encouraged me to get the Pierce library card. I now need one for Keith as our Ashland accounts have expired. They have given me a one week extension to retrieve my book information.
Cool! I've actually also gotten an online library card from the Sno-Isle Libraries (https://www.sno-isle.org/get-a-library-card/new-registration-english/), too! ;D
-
So what's for lunch?
I'm going to the local Red Wagon Burgers (http://www.redwagonburgers.com/menu/). Today is Double Stamp Tuesday!
-
DR George, wow, to your saving the library book.
Thanks! I had to do something...I just couldn't wait at least another 8 weeks before I could get another copy from ANY of the libraries where I have online cards! And I didn't want to pay for it. ::)

I just cleared out the Ashland libraries books, either onto one of my Washington library accounts or onto my Nook wish list.
-
Including Keith's local account, which he doesn't use, I have 3 accounts. I think I will leave just the one account with Pierce since it is simpler. Going between accounts on my tablet can be a pain when I don't remember the account numbers. One account opens right up to it :)
-
George did you pay to open an account with the Sno-Isle Libraries? It seems to be a foundation.

One advantage of two accounts is putting a hold on both accounts, and then I was next up for the book if I didn't finish in time, not that I needed that option very often.
-
From what I can tell I can't get a card at a Sno-Isle. I think I am good though with three accounts.
-
Have no idea about everyone else tests.
-
Back from the mail place and picking up a package and more importantly an important envelope, then did banking, now home and a half-rack of ribs has been ordered from the really good barbecue place from the other day, thanks to another 30% off code.
-
Have no idea about everyone else tests.
I would think the information would be shared.
-
Maybe they haven't gotten results yet. I'm not concerned if that's what you're wondering. We were all in masks and not near each other. The only time masks were removed was when the actors had to play the scene.

Ha! How un-American of you. Wink, wink.
-
Thank you, DR Donald, for the Broadway Radio Hour reminder!

My dance instructor/partner took her husband (my former personal Chinese chef) to the hospital last night because he had lost 15 pounds over the last three weeks. His doctor said his blood tests came back normal. But the hospital said he has pneumonia and should have been treated a week ago. Today, he was diagnosed with covid. Not a pretty picture.

BREAKING NEWS:
Anyone Can Whistle has landed.
-
I am sorry the album producer decided to "drive the message home" in the liner notes with photos of the current administration to outline the story parallels.
Totally unnecessary.
-
You've heard of the Elf on a Shelf? (I know DR John G. has!)
Well, here's a bellini on Fellini!
-
Hello, 1 Guest!
-
Another thing that arrived today was "The Operas of Benjamin Britten," which amongst other things contains the complete libretti of all of Britten's operas. Which is great, as these were left out of the Britten box set.
-
Laura Benanti is a national treasure. But the Charlie Brown Christmas special spoof had me in tears

Does it have Paul Bunyan in it?

That is beyond wonderful. Would you put baloney on Antonioni? Or Fran Kublik on Kubrick? Silver Bells on Orson Welles?
-
I need a little silly. It's been one of those days.
-
Magoo's Christmas Carol is up soon. Three very different Christmas Carols in a row. Maybe I'll make a fourth with A Carol Christmas. So many possibilities.
-
George did you pay to open an account with the Sno-Isle Libraries? It seems to be a foundation.
No. I just created an account and they sent me a library card number. :-\ Maybe the link I posted is not where I actually did it. It was only a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't get any e-mail or information about a foundation.
-

It does, indeed. Hooray, Auden!

Laura Benanti is a national treasure.
Agreed.

Odds are good you won't catch it even if someone tests positive.

I went back in and found where I had to chose a library. I passed not even knowing where these libraries are.

No one on Facebook will publish anything but drooling raves of Anyone Can Whistle because if they do this relentless little producer will go after them, shame them, and post every great review, which he tubthumps 100 times a day on every Broadway related group - they should just rename them all the John Yap group. When Follies came out and got the same exact raves from everyone, I don't believe I made more than a single post in two groups about it. This guy is either so needy as to beggar belief or he's just a little, well, needy, I guess there's no other word for it. Twenty four YEARS to birth this thing. And from the two songs I've heard, I certainly wasn't crazy about the sound, the mix, but no one will talk about that because they don't understand that stuff. And of course everyone is just so happy to have a complete version, although the OBC wasn't exactly short.

Ribs were absolutely amazing - I looked up the calories for a half-rack and it's not bad at all.

As much as I agree with their opinion on the current political situation, I totally agree that it should not have been part of the recording.

I've listened to the first disc and really like it. The parts that I miss are the boys singing the echoes and Cora's Ooos during "Me and My Town" (if that makes sense).

I don't own that one. Instead, I watched a 1935 British version on YouTube with Seymour Hicks. It's only 75 minutes long, but the shadows used and the faces were wonderful. Seymour Hicks was the star. I'll need to read up on him.

It does. It's the whole Kay Thompson effect that Sondheim was so proud of.

Watching a wonderful Christmas movie called It Happened on 5th Avenue with Victor Moore, Charles Ruggles and a great script. Second time I've seen it and I like it better than before.
-
Time for me to leave work.
Be back later.
-
DR Matthew, are you unpacked?
Not at all. I did get a good portion of the kitchen done after work today, until I broke a hinge and had to repair it. But I'm hacking away at the boxes. Hopefully by the weekend!
-
Hi all - another busy day. I'm worried about the schools, rumor has it that we may close again if we get a Stay At Home mandate again. I'm not surprised.
Speaking of home... it's shaping up a little bit. Trying to do as much as I can each day after work. I really want to decorate for Christmas, but I can't until I'm settled. I'm hoping for the weekend. The boys love to run around in all the extra space. I'm happy they are happy.
