Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the notes that were, and now it is time for you to post until the those were the cows that were cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AMITY!
-
It's suddenly pouring rain outside, with thunder and lightning.
-
Thank you George and Jane for the good wishes last night.
-
Rain is good. I hope the lightning doesn't do any damage.
-
'night.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
Today, I'm back to work, and hopefully, the end-of-the-year fiscal roll-over that I did on Saturday won't cause any problems. I don't think it will, but I'll find out soon enough!
Have a good day, all!
-
Just enjoying the HELL out of Previn's Streetcar opera - I'd enjoyed it the one time I heard it, but it's really like having new Previn film music - and I LOVE Previn film music.
-
~~~MEDICAL TEST VIBES~~~ of all sorts to DR TCB
-
A hearty CONGRATULATIONS to the DIL of DR Laura!
-
TOD:
Highlights of 2020 for me have been returning to the HHW fold, surviving some pretty traumatic health issues, and finding resilience despite stay-at-home protocols.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I don't know why it is, but each time I go to bed early because of an early appointment the next day, my plans go to hell. I went to bed at 8:00, and finally fell asleep after the last time I checked the clock at 11:07. Then I slept poorly the rest of the night. My physical exam is next week, and this morning I have the lab work. I'll leave around 8:30.
-
When I get home, I have no plans. I have a couple of packages in the lobby to bring up, I hope to get some work on Oh, Boy!, and I need to pay a few bills.
-
DR Laura, great news about your daughter-in-law!
-
DR TCB, I hope you pass your test.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Work laptop is restarting. Takes forever, it seems.
-
Test vibes for TCB.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's a Monday morning, and I have little to report. The housemates are back at work for the first time in several days, and I've got a few little organizational projects in mind.
-
I'd say it's a good day to put some of this new music on and crank it up on the Big Speakers.
-
Vibes for DR TCB.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Congrats to the DIL of DR LAURA!
-
I will have to think about the TOD....
-
Last night, we watched FIRST COW, which seems to be winning most of the film critics awards for 2020.
My wife didn't care for it, and I thought it was just so-so.
Certainly they did an excellent job of re-creating the time and place.
There was an interesting story somewhere in there, but the film could have easily lost 15-20 minutes. It would have also been nice if they'd lit the night scenes better, so that you could tell who was who and what was happening.
Is this really the best film we have this year?
-
T.O.D.
Highlights of 2020?
What highlights...when you're stuck in the house for most of the year?
I write more plays for THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection.
Beyond that...?
-
Home from the lab! My legs are killing me, so I will lie down for a bit.
-
Monday morning greetings! So far this morning, I have resolved a health-care premium issue and had a nice (accidental) video chat with my sister.
Oh, and I started Page 2!
-
TOD - by far, the best (if not the ONLY good) thing that happened in 2020 was the birth of our precious granddaughter Charlotte.
-
Will this work day ever end?
-
Today, I'm back to work, and hopefully, the end-of-the-year fiscal roll-over that I did on Saturday won't cause any problems. I don't think it will, but I'll find out soon enough!
It wasn't a feel good movie, something I am more inclined to watch these days.
Don't forget to add you were able to hold her :)
Finally having a grandchild which gives us great joy.
Wonderful, beautiful video chats to see our granddaughter. While fitting the positive part of the question, after the chats I spiraled into a depression and struggled to come out of them. Like DR Singdaw I am resilient.
Yes, DR Jane, and I'll never stop being grateful for that - and for the fact that neither of our in-person encounters resulted in serious health outcomes for them or us.
Me, too.
Positive highlights o' the year:
1. It seems like a lifetime ago, but being part of a funny and successful revue throughout February that miraculously wasn't touched by what was then known as the "novel coronavirus" would be the first good thing. Not being touched by it directly AT ALL is the biggie, of course, and I knock wood and vow to continue living safely as I say that.
2. The three of us in this household managing to keep ourselves safe and sane throughout the year, and ending up having holiday weekends and major holidays that were as wonderful as ever.
3. Playing one (count it!) unique and unforgettable gig, and learning that its composer had watched from right behind me.
4. BK's shows were a standout among all the goodies made available online through the year. Thinking back on it, there were some real stinkers from a few quarters, especially early on. I'm thinking of some local efforts, but there was pro stuff that missed the mark as well. The greatest stuff was top notch throughout.
Had we been closer, we too would have braved it at least once. There was a stretch where Bryan wasn't seeing too many covid patients.
I am glad you are not taking any chances while things are worse.
Getting a trip in just before the restrictions set in was a thrill that has lasted me since March. And I rammed so much into those three days in San Francisco. The highlight of highlights was certainly the catamaran trip across the bay, past Alcatraz and down to the bridge. But dinner at Chez Panisse and seeing Sting in The Last Ship are near that.
-
Spending time in Louisville with Mom has been good, for her, for JB and for me.
-
Taking on debt to have the house resided was necessary. In ways, it feels like I have a new house.
-
Working from home has been a huge plus, especially in terms of recognizing where some allergic spots for me are. I have also been more productive.
-
Losing dancing was the worst part of the year.
-
Also, along the lines of what BK said about listening to operas, and what I said above about various online things that came about wholly in response to the pandemic...
I'm grateful for the considerable number of MET telecasts I've been able to catch, thanks to their continuing free nightly streams. There have been several times over the years that I considered becoming a subscriber, and each time, I could never justify the price. So I gratefully take what's free, and if a few of the newer things I like ever become available on disc, they'll definitely get some money from me for those.
I think I've been exposed to more musical works and more performances in general this year, certainly not just opera.
Amen. I had never seen a Strauss opera before. And I have seen a few masterpieces that were new to me.
-
Thomas Ades is a living composer I very much admire now.
-
I did hear about a new work, can’t remember the composer’s name, called Knoxville Summer of 2015. Sounds vaguely sacrilegious, IMO. What next? Madame ButterflyII: Cio-Cio-San’s Revenge?
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
It's been pouring outside - sounds like it JUST calmed down.
Once the fog began to lift and we could see the river, this was our view.
-
Sorry, the file was too large to attach a photo.
-
It was a large marine crane barge right in front of our window.
-
Well, not exactly in front of the window ;)
-
One of my big projects was to watch all of Shakespeare’s plays that I had missed in the theater. It was good to see some of the lesser known works (Two Noble Kinsman, Troilus and Cressida) as well as many of the histories. The drag queen, disco version of Troilus was one particular oddity I won’t soon forget.
-
DR Ginny, did you watch the Meet Me In St Louis last night?
-
Where has the day gone?
-
Picked up lots of packages, but there are still four eBay things that are sitting in New Jersey and Maryland - it's absolutely infuriating - we're talking about almost a month for one of them. Shame on Mr. deJoy and the USPS.
-
DR Ginny, did you watch the Meet Me In St Louis last night?
I did, indeed, DR Elmore, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Please congratulate Josh for me.
-
Listening to lots of music - I cancelled the visit due to the rain - too dangerous for anyone to drive.
-
First it was an album of stage music by Humperdinck that was delightful.
Especially in LA where they do not know how to drive in it ;)
-
Now Ute Lemper's volume two of Kurt Weill songs - excellent save for the way too low mastering - this seems to be a John Mauceri "thing" and he clearly knows nothing about sound. But this is Ute when she was in her prime - she's gotten so breathy and phony now it's almost unlistenable.
-
The river was busy today. We often see barges, however, today we saw a tandem barge.
-
That photo was also too large to post.
-
The photos are on FB.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
We had a doozy of a storm last night. A bit of thunder and lightning, but HEAVY rain and wind. I was surprised there was no damage here. It's raining today, too, with brief dry periods. I wanted some tacos and just needed to get out, so I did a taco run and mailed a couple letters, then came right home.
-
Congrats to DR Laura's DIL!
-
I have no news.
Vibes for a restful week for all, as we close out a very difficult year.
TTFN.
The tracking info on the baby's first Christmas ornament says "In Transit, Arriving Late". ::)
Another positive thing for the year is that I have not lost anyone to covid. I hope that does not change.
This past week, Mom discovered that her most favorite cousin, a woman who took us on a tour through southern Germany and Austria, died from covid a few months ago. She knew Friedela had died, just not the cause.
Just catching up
Vibes vibes and more vibes for TCB
I just read that Texas and Florida are not following the CDC recommendations and will be vaccinating those 65 and older first. I am glad Illinois and Maryland are doing essential workers first.
DR John the article I read did not say if having Diabetes would move you up to that category. You might want to check.
That's so sad. I'm very sorry, John. :(
-
And now, I'm off.
Be back later.
-
Listened to lots more music, but saved the three operas for last - am now listening to Rusalk by Dvorak. Prior to that it was Hanns Eisler's Deutsche Symphony, which I didn't love but must give it another listen, and a Viktor Ullmann one-act opera, that I also need to hear another couple of times - that one's very short, though.
I'm not 65. Not surprised the state isn't following guidelines.
No. I don't think so. She's more concerned with the first anniversary of Dad's death, which is tomorrow.
Gratuitous post No. 100!
-
Just looked at the Met's schedule for this week. I always enjoyed Pavarotti, and he's the theme of the week. I hope I have the chance to watch a couple of them. I've never seen Ernani or Un Ballo en Maschera.
-
My eyes are tired. And so am I.
-
Good night, all.
-
Rusalka is very long, but I'm enjoying it. Are there links to all these opera streams?
That is why I suggested you check if diabetics, as well as other people with comorbidities, are included in the 65 and older group.
Hi, Tom.
-
As the host said (or thought), “Where the f^^^ is everybody?”
-
It is very chilly here this evening.
-
Has anyone else watched “SOUL”?
-
Tonight I watched the Disney/Jim Carrey version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. It was okay, but nothing to write home about.
-
Tomorrow I may track down my version of SCROOGE.
-
Has anyone else watched “SOUL”?
I haven't seen it, yet.
-
I am sure I had it since moving into the condo.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a garage.
-
Hello, George.
-
Three more days until 2021
-
Today, my mom went to the casino with a friend of hers, and my mom's jacket got stolen! :o
-
It is going to seem strange to see a nearly deserted Times Square on NYE.
-
I am sure I had it since moving into the condo.
Hopefully, you can find it!
Ditto.
-
Only her car keys were in her jacket, but still the guy could've found my mom's car with the fob.
-
Thank you all for the good vibes.
-
MOST fortunately, they caught the guy before he got out of the casino!
-
I have a feeling that this may be a case where a positive is really a negative thing.
-
After she got her keys back, they kept playing for a couple more hours! ;D
