Last night I was feeling so poorly that I was in bed by 8:30.  I've inherited some of my mother's hypochondria, so I was convinced I was dying. I thought it might be a real case of Covid-19, a result of a botched biopsy, or encroaching death. Well, the alarm rang at 5:45, and I slept in until 6:30.

I think DR TCB was right about food poisoning. In my grocery delivery last week I ordered 2 packs of sausages, but when I finished unpacking things with the cats, I found only one pack, which I put in the freezer and let the cats play in the large shopping nags that the groceries came in. Five hours later, when I folded up the bags for the basement, I found the other pack, which I should have tossed. Instead I put it in the freezer, folded the bags and took them to the basement. Yesterday moprning I had three of the sausages with my eggs for breakfast.

So, that's what I think caused yesterday's problems. This morning I feel quite good, and my unemployment has kicked in.  I should be paid tomorrow.

Today is an Oh, Boy! day to make up for yesterday. It's a chilly rainy day so I am very happy that I do not need to step out. I do need to make an appointment for my barber this week.

DR Elmore, was that sausage raw and uncooked, or the kind that's cooked but you cook it again to heat it up (like, say, Brown 'N Serve)?

If the former, it's a time bomb for sure. But it's probably important for the latter, too, to never be refrozen after thawing.

I don't know if I ever actually suffered from making that mistake, but I know I used to make the mistake. In recent years I've been convinced to just be safe and not sorry.

A question for you Mac people. I should know this by now. How do you print just the text or section of the page that you've highlighted on a web page or email?

In Windows I'd highlight the paragraph or whatever I wanted, pull up the print dialogue box, choose "print selection only" or whatever the terminology was, and hit Print. I can't find how to do this in the Apple print function.

My soon to be 50 year old sister Molly is doing some wall decorating with those 50's long-necked cat illustrations.

I bought her a copy of the Mr Lucky soundtrack LP.  It came on Saturday, so it is all wrapped for her to receive on Wednesday, her actual birth date.

TOD:

I love being able to go out into the backyard and pick my salad. Lettuce is nearing and end of its run, but I have plenty of parsley, chives, mint, basil and more to go in the mix. On top, I like a classic French dressing of olive oil, vinegar, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper and scallions or shallots.

Aside from the wonderful Chicken Noodle Salad....

I like a Chef's Salad or a Nicoise Salad....which may be the same thing......

At home, I make a small salad of lettuce, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and sometimes ham or chicken bits......

I love many kinds of salad, but a "chef's salad" is a real favorite. The way I like it, it's a complete meal. I haven't ordered one in years, but I'll occasionally make my own at home, and believe me it takes some planning and shopping. I try to replicate the ones I loved in L.A. at places like Ben Frank's and other quality coffee shops.

A truly loaded one for me will include cherry tomatoes, onion, cucumbers, radishes, sometimes a few mushroom slices, ham and turkey, cheddar and swiss, avocado, artichoke hearts, and hard boiled egg. I'm probably forgetting something. Each item is sliced and diced for best presentation and fork pickup, and arranged artfully on a big deep bowl of romaine. Dressing varies depending on mood, and I usually keep it on the side so as not to overwhelm the salad with it.

I left out the warm rolls and butter! :)  And mind you, I probably make these salads larger than what my memory tells me they were, but they really were a wonderful full sized entree. I wonder if the diners around here make a decent one. I'll bet vixmom's Lawn Guyland diners probably do.

My grass needs to be mowed.....or threshed....  I may go buy a gas can tomorrow....and do some of it.

My sister and her husband who usually help me have put their mower in the shop....so Wednesday is the first day they might be able to help.  I don't think I want to wait until then.

ChasSmith, I can probably help with the mail thing if I understand what it is you're trying to do.

Here's what I was trying to describe:

Let's say I'm on a web page, or reading an email, or maybe some other app, and there's one paragraph I want to print -- just the paragraph, not the whole page or all the pages. So I highlight that paragraph and press Command-P. In Windows, the equivalent print command box includes "Selection" as an option, meaning, just print the highlighted paragraph. There's no such thing on the Apple screen or in menus that I can find. So what I'm looking for is how to print just that paragraph from the Mac.

Don't know if that's totally clear. If not, don't worry about it. In a few days I'll be seeing a friend who's a real Apple guru (not quite a Genius, just a guru), so if this isn't easy to answer, let it go and I'll figure it out then. Thanks!

She said, “ah, so you’re not in Switzerland, then”

My soon to be 50 year old sister Molly is doing some wall decorating with those 50's long-necked cat illustrations.

I bought her a copy of the Mr Lucky soundtrack LP.  It came on Saturday, so it is all wrapped for her to receive on Wednesday, her actual birth date.

Great gift.

I do NOT like cabbage so I am not a fan of cole slaw or anything like that......I especially don't even like to look at shredded cabbage encased in Jello.

I use cabbage instead of lettuce for my salads.

Until later.

I enjoyed Soul. I was surprised. I haven't like the last few Pixar pix I've seen. But there are 10 minutes of credits at the end.

And the very last credit says "Created and Produced at Pixar Animation Studios, Emeryville, California, and in homes at least six feet away from each other throughout the Bay area." So I guess it was filmed partially during the pandemic.

Starting a weepie called Our Friend. I'm sure I won't last the night. It's more than two hours. About a woman dying of cancer and how a friend helps her and her family out. It's based on a true story and got some nice reviews. It also seems to be Casey Affleck's rehab movie after his MeToo moment.

My doctor told me I need to go on a low-oxalate diet to avoid kidney stones. It ain't pretty. Some of my favorite foods are on the forbidden list.

No chocolate.
No tea.
No raspberries.
No spinach.
No rhubarb.
No nuts.

A world of no.

I have been VERY good so far but it sure doesn't feel like I'm on the way to losing weight. They always say you lose a lot the first week - well, I certainly haven't lost a lot, but maybe they mean after your body goes into ketosis. If so, they really shouldn't say the first week.

Like all these no carb things, I cannot imagine a harder diet to do because it's so restrictive, but I'm in for at least a month - if I haven't seen results, back to counting calories.

DR JohnG--to answer your question, I don't have any definite plans but I have three possible trips in mind.  My friends may be driving to Buffalo in the next month or two and asked if I wanted to join them.  I've been invited to stay with one of my friends in Southern California.   Also, Mr. Barrett is performing in Las Vegas on July 11th and I'm thinking of seeing his show.

Where is Brent performing in Las Vegas?  Is he performing alone, or is it the Broadway Tenors?  Does he still have a home in Las Vegas?

Thanks!

Can’t you just cut and paste?
