DRMattH, I believed you mentioned doing a bio of Charles Walters; did you know he was one of Cole Porter's boyfriends in the 1930s? He began as a ballroom dancer with Dorothy Fox, and when he was cast as the Prince in JUBILEE, Miss Fox had to be given a role in the show: she had an Act Two Scene Three dance, which has never been recorded, but which is one of the two beautiful Ravel-inspired dances Porter composed for the show.
...OH!
And when I get back after rehearsal, please remind me to share the story of the Drunk Ass Gay Boy Giving Advice and Commentary to the Drunk Ass Straight Boy Last Night On the Subway.
;D
Rodzinski, Vixmom, and Ginny...this BOOKWORM game had us HHWers quite busy for sometime until we all managed to kick the habit!
Click on the link...I dare you! .....http://www.popcap.com/gamepopup.php?theGame=bookworm
dear elmore I am glad that you are up and well enough to post, but sorry that you are in so much pain.Ditto from myself and der Brucer.
~~~~~VIBES FOR A QUICK RECOVERY~~~~
Tonight, I will be most errant and truant...and truant and errant. A local community theater is doing La Cage Aux Folles and my ticket is for tonight. I've been hearing really good things about this production, so I'm really looking forward to it. I have a couple of cast recordings (OBC & OGermanC) but have never seen it. So, tonight I will!
Dear DR Jrand, I'm not sure about episodes of shows that I particularly dislike, since I'm not that fanatical about my television watching (with the exception of Good Eats, of course).
However, I have noticed a peculiar phenomenon. There have been occasions when I have, for whatever reason, only seen one episode of a series in first run. Whenever I happen to tune in to that series again, in repeats, more often than not it will be the exact same episode! I kid you not!
I mean, deja vu is creepy enough in real life! :o
DR Elmoore: Be wary of the side effects of Vicodin. I think I mentioned them last summer after breaking the bones at my elbow joint.
It continued through the week. It was quite nice to have such a thorough cleaning, though.
Ask Question Day #1:
When will you announce the title of the cast album?
Wednesday....my question for ASK BK day:
Are there any episodes of favorite television series that you do NOT like:
IE. I do not like the I LOVE LUCY episodes that deal with Little Ricky learning to play the drums, having stage fright, or going to nursery school, or the one with Jay Novello as a nervous man who rents the Ricardo's apartment, or "The Hollywood Anniversary". I also do NOT like any television episode of any series that features Sterling Holloway, who irritates me in the most horrible way.
I'm asking! I asking!...
BK - Since Little Women will be closing on Broadway this weekend, do you think you're gonna try to catch one of the final performances?
I can't remember if this has been asked before, but...
Is there any artist/group whose catalog of songs you think would actually make a good "jukebox musical"? Something with a real plot and not just a revuesical?
Why is this the LAST "Ask BK Day"????? :o
Will you never more answer questions put to you? :(
Will we be prohibited from ever again asking questions? :-X
What if it is information we really need and only you know the answer? ???
Oh this is so distressing. :-\
Greetings, all. Sorry to have been E&T the last couple of days.
But my return does bring a question for Ask BK Day:
Has there ever been a movie that you have seen once and only once, and refrain from seeing ever again because you feel that in its initial viewing, the circumstances were so perfect for you to love the movie that you fear any subsequent viewing would ruin what you feel was a near-perfect experience? (Of course, the movie itself doesn't have to be any great work of art...:) )
For "Ask BK Day":
1) Which performance of DRAT, THE CAT will you be atttending? We will be there Saturday night.
2) Will the Guy Haines CD have a "hidden track" which has come to be a feature on so many BK-produced CDs?
Dear Everybody,
What was your Junior High school science fair project? Was it something creative, or was it one of those boring volcanoes?
Ron and elmore I’m very jealous Vicodin has such a positive effect on you both. I have only taken it once and my experience of sitting with my head over the toilet for four hours discouraged me from ever taking it again. Craig & my sister were also very sick from it.
And I feel about Ray Walston, the way that JRand feels about Mr. Hollaway! LOL!
DR SANDRA - my Jr High 8th Grade Science Project was on Heredity! I cut pictures of grown-ups and children out of magazines like the Saturday Evening Post and created a family tree of two sets of grandparents, a husband and wife, and a child, and showed dominant and recessant genes. I got an A!
And by a strange coincidence - two of my younger brothers and one of my younger sisters did the SAME project when THEY were in the 8th grade. They also got A's!
SENILITY ALERT
DR Pogue & al: Well, yesterday, I was thinking Sunset Boulevard, I had a mental image of William Holden in Sunset Boulevard in my head. I knew it was Sunset Boulevard. I typed All About Eve.
My mind is going,... I can feel it, Dave...
Sterling Holloway was rather sinister as the TV repairman in that Twilight Zone with Uncle Charlie and his wife fighting, and then seeing themselves fight on TV.
Does this mean, JRand that you also dislike Winnie the Pooh?
I didn't do a Junior High Science Fair project. I never did any Science Fair project. I was a Drama Nerd, not a Science Nerd.
I can't remember if this has been asked before, but...
Is there any artist/group whose catalog of songs you think would actually make a good "jukebox musical"? Something with a real plot and not just a revuesical?
Stanley Holloway is NO prize either. His lip movements NEVER match the vocals in "With a Little Bit O' Luck". But Sterling....well...well....WELL as Cass Daley used to say!
Well {sputter}...well [sputter]...Allison Hayes is dogmeat!
;D
Ohhh! Sterling Holloway...dopey me! All this time I was thinking of Stanley Holloway and wondering who doesn't like Eliza Dolittle's poppa?? ;D
Well, I see this is spreading. I was thinking he meant Stanley Holloway, too!
That's alright, until they mentioned W- T - P I was thinking Sterling Grey (or was it Gray?)
DtM I like the idea of a Mamas & Papas Jukebox musical.....but I guess nobody likes my idea....oh well.
Everybody somebody's fool.
A tunestack that would include both "Stupid Cupid" and "Havah Nagilah" would be an interesting one.
Jose, this is a reminder for you to share the story of the Drunk Ass Gay Boy Giving Advice and Commentary to the Drunk Ass Straight Boy Last Night On the Subway. ;D
...I have a hidden track in mind, but we haven't recorded it yet. We'll see if we have time. I'd meant to do one on the original Guy Haines album, but it didn't work out, time-wise.Vinnie sings? :o :o :o
Dear Everybody,Back when I was in Junior High School, science hadn't been invented yet.
What was your Junior High school science fair project? Was it something creative, or was it one of those boring volcanoes?
BURBANK, Calif. - Actor Frank Gorshin, the impressionist with 100 faces best known for his Emmy-nominated role as The Riddler on the old "Batman" television series, has died. He was 72."
<SNIP>
In 2002, Gorshin portrayed George Burns on Broadway in the one-man show
"Say Goodnight Gracie." He used only a little makeup and no prosthetics.
"I don't know how to explain it. It just comes," he said. "I wish I could say, 'This is step A, B and C.' But I can't do that. I do it, you know. The ironic thing is I've done impressions all my life — I never did George Burns...."
Marc Cherry, the creator and producer of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, is a huge musical theater fan. Every episode of the show carries the title of a famous song from a musical. He's partial to Sondheim, but the other staff writers insisted that other composers' songs be used in the titles, too.
In my senior year I was sent to the National Science Fair in Seattle, but it was part of the World's Fair that year (the year they built the monorail and the Space Needle), and we got sort of lost in all the hoopla.Yeah, I've heard all sorts of stories about that Naval base "stuff".
I did win a prize there, from the US Navy. They sent a lot of Science Fair winners for a week at the Naval Base in San Diego (it was supposed to be a week on an aircraft carrier, but none was a vailable), with lots of cool tours of military things, a nuclear submarine, and ... stuff.
JRand, dsylexia strikes again! I kept looking and looking at that and knew it wasn't right. duhhh! I went back and changed it.
Well, here's what I know: I always though John McGiver was the voice of W-t-P. You learn something new every day.
Where in the world do you find the title of each show?Warning: Spoilers. (http://www.tvtome.com/DesperateHousewives/guide.html)
I know they name them...but I never know what the name is until a season shows up on video, or one of them gets nominated for Emmys.
No No NO John McGiver is the guy who can make computers out of paperclips in that old TV show!!! ;)Isn't he the guy currently doing a Kurt Russell impersonation on another TV show?
DEAR FRIENDS OF LITTLE WOMEN-
BLOGGER TOM here-
I'm sorry to share this news, but I did want to let you know officially that LITTLE WOMEN will be closing on Broadway THIS SUNDAY, May 22nd. It was a difficult decision for the producers to make, but it was necessary, and I give them credit for being brave enough to make this hard choice.
For those of you in the area, we still have several performances, and we'd love to have you there with us! TELECHARGE is ready to help at 212-239-6200, (outside NY call 800-432-7250) or come by the box office at the Virginia Theatre.
In happier news, the National Tour is shaping up nicely, and that information will soon be posted at www.LittleWomenOnBroadway.com. In fact, the site will continue to grow, and will serve as the site for the tour. Keep us as one of your "favorites" on your computer- We'll have updates as news comes in for the road!
To honor the memory of LITTLE WOMEN, we encourage you to VOTE for the show in the numerous on-line contests! www.broadway.com has us in 7 of their categories, www.playbill.com has one tied in with VISA, and www.broadwayworld.com lists every possible nominee in each category- plus it shows you live results as well. What better way to show your support than by voting for this special show?
Thank you again for all your support over the past year- We at the website have loved getting to know you all, and look forward to having the March family out on tour.
With our great appreciation and a little sadness,
BLOGGER TOM
and MOJO
I am so hopped up on caffeine right now my eyes are about to bug out.
Yup DtM - JIMMY was another Anita Gillette Broadway blockbuster.
Does anyone remember Hodge Podge Lodge onPBSNET back in the late 60's?
Have a wonderful day/evening/whatever it may be where you are.
Best wishes and big hugs to DR Elmore from both of us here.
Personally I tried to avoid science as much as possible when I was in school...the only project I can recall was making crystals in a glass jar....mine was none to successful as I recollect.
You're not the only one!! ;)Ohhh! Sterling Holloway...dopey me! All this time I was thinking of Stanley Holloway and wondering who doesn't like Eliza Dolittle's poppa?? ;D
MR BK isn't it exciting to hear your words out loud for the first time?
Que esta IL DIVO?
Some exciting DVD news:
The Thin Man series collection releases on Aug. 2nd. Along with all of the Thin Man films it will have the pilot to the TV show, radio shows, cartoons, etc.
Astaire/Rogers collection releases Aug. 16th:
TOP HAT, SWING TIME, FOLLOW THE FLEET, SHALL WE DANCE, and BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY are on this first set.
And the film everyone is waiting for (well, I am waiting for) THE THREE STOOGES MEET HERCULES starring Samson Burke releases on June 28th! Woohoo!
Are any of you...out there in the dark..."into" the group called "Il Divo"?
Sad news about Frank Gorshin. Wasn't he still touring "Goodnight, Gracie"? -Sorry, just haven't had the time to read the obits.
I was hoping that BK would reveal the name of the show as I am itching to reveal my announcement.
I've heard of them, but I've never heard their music. They are nice to look at, though! ;)
They don't do mime, huh?
However, I have noticed a peculiar phenomenon. There have been occasions when I have, for whatever reason, only seen one episode of a series in first run. Whenever I happen to tune in to that series again, in repeats, more often than not it will be the exact same episode! I kid you not!
DICK VAN DYKE SHOW- Any show with too much Little Richie was a bad thing.
Elmore update!
You wouldn't know that the guy had even been in the hospital. Looks good, drugs seemed to have worn off, mind sharp as a tack.
Did you have a good time inspite of the rain?
Where in the world do you find the title of each show?
I know they name them...but I never know what the name is until a season shows up on video, or one of them gets nominated for Emmys.
We lost one of our two actors - and are now trying to replace him with an hour to go. I hate actors with a passion.Actors without a passion would be worse.
A new singing group...apparently going to be HUGE!
:D :D :D
Glad I made you laugh. :)
We lived in Oakland, near Franklyn Lakes. Craig was born in Hackensack hospital. Why?
Given how national election results are regularly given before the polls have closed nationwide (here in the USA, perhaps in Canada as well), this obsession with not revealing spoilers on plot developments for a danged TV show strikes me as trivial. Sorry, just my opinion.
I try to avoid looking in certain parts of my refrigerator in order to avoid looking at spoilage.
