My friend Margo and I go to this particular restaurant here in Olympia where they have some bread with oil and vinegar to dip that's usually really good. But the bread needs to be fresh out of the oven or it just isn't as good as it could be, so we always specifically ask to get fresh baked bread. It's still pretty good after it's cooled down, but it's REALLY good when it's fresh and warm.

The best steak memory I have:
On December 17th, a friend was in nearby Edgefieid SC to give testimony in a murder trial. Said friend is a forensics analyst of audio/video recordings that capture crimes. He had been here in November for a pre-trial hearing and came back to testify in the trial. He called when he was done. We had agreed to meet up and have dinner, and I had suggested a new restaurant in Edgefield that I was very excited about. It is named "Christine's Farm to Fork". It's a family-owned restaurant and they their own vegetables. https://christinesfarmtofork.com/
I had dined there the week prior for a birthday dinner, and it was excellent food. There are many items on that menu that I wanted to try.
He finished earlier than we thought he might, so I drove over to Edgefield and met him in the town square. We went to a joint for a glass of wine. It was boxed wine, but it was Edgefield, so...!!!
The restaurant opened at 5 p.m. We were among the first five customers and were duly seated. I ordered an entree of fried squash/zucchini. It was delicious. i told my friend that the meal was on me and called his attention to the steak section of the menu which was where I was planning on making a selection.
My dinner order was a filet mignon which came with two sides of my choosing. I chose creamed spinach and roasted corn.
My friend ordered shrimp and grits, and he explained his wife has an allergy to shellfish and he never gets to have any at home. He also ordered a side salad.
My steak was simply SUPERB. I am very critical of steak preparation. My dad was the best steak griller I ever knew. I do a fair imitation of his best work on select occasions. But, in restaurants, it is very hit and miss. The steak at "Chrstine's Farm to Fork" establishment in Edgefield SC is a huge HIT with me. My steak was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The taste was unbelievably wonderful. I shared a couple of bits with my friend who was very impressed with it as he was with his shrimp and grits.
So...that's my steak story.

My sleep plans for last night went awry rather sooner than I thought they might.
I was in bed by 11:15 p.m. It felt so good to be flat in a bed and feeling warm and cozy. I drifted off at once. I was having a very odd dream in which I was attempting to bake pancakes as if they were to be in the shape of hot dog buns. As they baked, they grew bigger. As they grew, I began feeling as though they were constricting my breathing. I then woke up and realized that my sinus passages were once again clogged, and I was struggling to breathe through my CPAP. I HATE WHATEVER THIS IS!!!
A look at the clock said 1:15 a.m. Two hours is all I got to spend in my bed.
Happily, once I sat up in my recliner and covered myself with my blanket, my sinuses re-opened. Sufficient enough for me to nose-breathe the remainder of the night. I got another five hours of sleep before awaking.

Oh, yes....barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be joining my cousin Butch and his fiancee Sharon at Christine's on Sunday morning for BRUNCH!
The circumstance that might prevent this from happening is that my cousin Butch, who has been fully vaccinated and who had a bout with COVID-19 a year ago, has tested positive again. It has not been serious, but he has been quarantining all week and thinks he'll be good to go by Saturday.

I woke up insanely early, turned the heat up a little, and finally got back to sleep. I can remember one dream (which might actually be two, but I think they work as one), and I'm haunted by the feeling that another one followed, which would be the one from which I awoke. As of now, it's nowhere to be found, but I have a feeling it's chipping away at the wall and I will eventually get to know what it was.

Whenever I dream and wake up, usually to go to the loo, I try to remember what I was dreaming. If I can, the dream continues. Otherwise, it's lost in the ether.

Today I must pay a couple of ugly bills and call to change a doctor's appointment.
I must also go through four (count 'em) memory cards from my old camera and previous phone(s) and copy the photos over to the external hard drive I keep most of my stuff on, and then back the whole mess up to Time Machine. That will leave me with plenty of other miscellaneous photo file folders that need to be sorted through and put into better places. But at least all of that is already backed up six ways from Sunday, so the above is the critical part to get done today.

I have felt that very thing lately, and this is me taking a stab at it. No question, it's a huge job to tackle.

I love steaks, and filet mignon is probably my absolute favorite cut. But if done right, all the great cuts are to die for.
Filet or not, though, my best / most memorable steaks were had on a few business trips in the '90s and '00s, in various locales, because when our company went out to eat, or took others out to eat, they went first class and I got to experience a few fabulous places. What those places actually were are unfortunately lost to the sands of time, but even if I can't identify the jernts, I remember the sensation of those bites of steer inside my mouth. The sides, too. Something I always wish I could remember a little better and recreate for myself was the onion and tomato salad at a steakhouse near Atlanta, where they value their sweet Vidalia onions. That's also where I had a steak tartare that was to swoon over. Damn it to HELL, I do kind of miss those times.
The other superb steaks for me were cooked by friends who knew exactly what to buy, how to season, and how to properly grill or broil. If you learn that stuff, you can serve yourself the best steak in the world at home.

Speaking of which (i.e., our various feline contingents), in going through these memory cards yesterday to see what was what, I came across many cat photos I'd forgotten about, that quite literally startled me in how young and/or in-their-prime healthy and fabulous our four legged friends looked at different times. It was almost more shocking than seeing photos of our very own humans from years ago. Though that can get rather shocking, too... 8)

HA! It's Thursday.
Last night's Amazing Race was most entertaining.....they paused the show near the end - February, 2020 - and then wall-lah! came back in the next shot. A couple of teams didn't return so I would guess they added the two teams that had been eliminated.\
I couldn't quite tell who was there, although I recognized most of the teams. I'm sure it's online somewhere.

Steaks!
My best steak experience was also in a business dinner setting - in Miami Beach, Florida. I don't remember the name of the restaurant - it wasn't a Ruth's Chris - but I had a sirloin with french fried potatoes and green beans.....
It was a nice size - not too big - and cooked medium well as I requested.
Still remembered 28 years later.

MR BK - I guess I feel the same way about the previews.....sometimes it was the posters that would disappoint because there was definitely stuff there that never showed up onscreen.

My favorite steaks are generally those that are home grilled. A generous coating of McCormack’s Montreal Steak Seasoning on top, the grill. I like to heat all of the grill, but turn down the heat when applying the meat. Five minutes or so each side, then let rest a few minutes.

A friend did make a beef tenderloin poached in butter one Christmas that was excellent.

I’m very picky and primal about steak presentation at a restaurant. I do not want it cut into slices for me. I want to see a big hunk of meat that I can tear into with my own fat steak knife and fork. I want to see the medium rare juices run when I make that first cut. I want the smell, the heat and the taste to be just right.

Got the first of the four memory cards done.
It turned out that everything on this one had already been copied to computer, but I checked every group of photos anyway to be positive, reorganized a few things, then blanked out the card for later use. A backup is running right now while I take a break from it so I don't burn myself out and starting making mistakes.

Any card with photos that weren't already on the hard drive will NOT be blanked or formatted until everything is moved over, triple-checked, and the backup run and checked.

Our dermatologist, with a young child, has been home with long covid for at least 15 months. I hope she isn't suffering this much :(

Spoke with a coworker who had omicron last week. Sad the sore throat was nearly unbearable. The problem here is that mold and cedar pollen levels are high, so people are already weak and suffering, then add a third and worse malady to the mix, and you’ve really got problems.

Last night she ended up in the ER and found out that her doctor did not take her autoimmune issues into account and mistreated her. To begin with he said she was not eligible for Monoclonal antibodies. Her autoimmune disease made her eligible and now it is too late to receive them :(

Ron, sorry to hear about your sinus issues. I have very chronic sinus issues, but the standard drug treatment given by allergists didn't help me at all. I've found a number of OTC products that do help:
Sambucol dissolvable tablets, which are so good for colds and flu, are also good for sinus
Similasan Allergy Relief nasal spray
Nutribioic grapefruit seed extract (GSE) nasal spray
Silicea 30C homeopathic pellets (or a combination product with Silicea in it)
There are many other products out there. These are just ones I've used successfully.

Re Ruth's Chris, unfortunately it sounds like a death spiral. Loss of staff due to Covid. Loss of business due to Covid. Lesser ingredients, perhaps due to shortages or perhaps due to cost-cutting. Soon the restaurant becomes unrecognizable.

One day I was at Julie Goes Green and chatting with Julie when I saw a pan of small mounds being put into the pizza oven. "What are those?" Julie said, "That's our garlic bread." They bake small loaves/mounds of bread especially for their garlic bread. Yesterday I decided to give it a try. It was quite good. Unfortunately, my body does not tolerate wheat well, so I pay the price if I indulge.

Yesterday I tried Amazon Fresh for the first time. Both Singdaw's and Larry's posts have mentioned it and I needed a delivery. I was fooled by the "two-hour delivery", though. It took over 24 hours to find an open delivery slot. The order arrived on time and the driver brought it up to my door, so I was pleased. It wasn't until today that I saw that the bottled water that I was charged $9.79 for is $7.49 if you order from the regular Amazon site! Oh, well. It will provide me with another option, since I lost my personal grocery shopper.

I finished a collection of short stories called Readers and Writers that were more often than not hilarious. I love reading, obviously, but I never knew how much I enjoy reading about reading. Hell of a Book’s descriptions of the writer’s life fits in that category.

When I ate meat I don't recall where I had the most memorable steaks. While I enjoyed a good steak it was one of the easiest meats for me to give up eating.

I would enjoy the baked potatoes with sour cream and chives that were usually served with the steak.

There was a restaurant in San Diego that also had a delicious side dish of mushrooms sautéed in butter.

What a wacko day. Work session was the best of it. Then picked up packages and that was fine.

I then got a call from the gal at Vitello's telling me that management has decided to cancel all shows until mid-April, but that they weren't cancelling our show this month because we're basically sold out and they're not about to lose eighty dinners. Other sold out shows will also play. But the majority of shows weren't selling at all because people have, once again, locked themselves away. But our March show has to move to May now, unless there's a date in late April that we like. And at this point, they're going to be dark on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, which means we have to find another evening that will work well for us. All that said, I think there will be a major reassessment in two weeks when things have calmed down, which they will. Cases are already going down on the East Coast.

The I ordered food from Lucille's barbecue - I'd had their fried chicken breasts in gravy once before and it was great. So, I ordered that.

Then I finally began to futz and finesse and got through some of that until the food arrived. And they screwed up my order, sending me a horrifying chicken sandwich. I called Uber Eats and the gave me an instant credit, so I ordered again. Forty minutes later they brought the new order - and for the second time, didn't ring the bell or text me. I believe I'm done with Uber Eats. This time the order was right. It didn't matter. The food was horrible. The fried chicken was so spicy I could only eat one of the breasts. The mac-and-cheese was like eating plastic, and the coleslaw was yuckilicious. They're not gonna be happy with my updated Yelp review. Did I mention I'm a Yelp Elite again?

Then I finished futzing and finessing and started writing new pages. I've done over five so far, so another ten to go, which I'll space out through the evening. I also found out the handyman is coming back at nine in the morning to finish touching up what he did. No warning and I don't know when I'm supposed to catch up on sleep as I have to be up even earlier on Saturday. So irritating.

I have a cousin who lives on the Isle of Man. Her husband has Parkinson's and is unable to travel anymore. In order to see them I have to go there, except taking a small plane or the ferry is a problem due to the high winds. I just get too sick. I suggested to Keith we find a cruise that goes there. We found one cruise that stops there. Fortunately we liked the rest of the cruise and booked it for June.
We made a small deposit and had until next month to back out before paying the balance. Today the cruise line, very wisely, extended that date to April.

It's pretty much doing the work for each aspect, and taking screen shots of my computer, and then writing what specifically needs to be done.

It's not difficult, just time consuming.

Even though I'm not the only one who does those parts of my job, I'm the one who gets to create the procedures manual.
