I taped it and watched it by fast forwarding for all the stuff I didn’t want to see. The tribute to Sondheim was disappointing. I wish they had a tribute to a Angela Lansbury on the main broadcast.

I did not get to bed until after 11:00, so I've lost two hours of sleep last night, and I feel it. I had a very strage dream that I was performing my cabaret act, and Steve Sondheim was also performing his after me. Then I learned I had to go on again after him with my old cabaret act. The problem was, I could rememebr no lyrics.

After seeing the Strange Loop bit, I think I'd  like to see it. I feel the same about Paradise Square. I wish I'd seen The Skin of our Teeth, which remains one of my favorite plays, and I would kill to see Take Me Out. The original production was wonderful, but I've always liked Jessie Tyler Ferguson, and I think he might be wonderful in the Dennis O'Hare role.

The actor playing Michael Jackson impressed me in the excerpt but much less so in his award speech. I kept thinking, well, he's very young.

Before the pandemic, I was going to do a new show with  Christopher Wheeldon. No word since March 2020.

The Tony Awards - it was on, and I was in the same room as the television.

I didn't see anything that would motivate me to see a show or buy a CD - and usually I at least see ONE thing I like.

Oh well.  I shall be back.....

I saw a portion of the Tonys at someone else's house, and caught the end of the program at home. I didn't even think to set the DVR, but I think the highlights I've seen and/or read about will be sufficient. Man, I know nothing about these newer shows.

The Music Man excerpt (their curtain calls??) is all I ever have to see of that production.

No, that's not quite true. I would watch a few snippets from the actual show out of simple curiosity. I'd specifically be interested to see the "My White Knight" scene, for the unearthed musical version of the number and to get some sense of how Sutton Foster actually portrays Marian. Again, only to satisfy the curiosity.

TOD:   I may have watched an hour or so of the Tonys.  Nothing amazed me.  Many of the acceptance speeches were way over-the-top.

I did admire Phylicia Rashad's speech, though.  I hated the speech by the featured actor in a musical.  Dear Lord!  You'd think he had won the Kentucky Derby, the Olympic Gold Medal and the Best Actor Oscar all rolled into one.   I appreciate that he was excited, but...

I did not care for the number from "Company" at all.

And where is it engraved in stone that Bernadette Peters is the ONLY singer who should ever be in a Sondheim tribute?  At least she was singing a song from "Into the Woods" instead of the one she usually sings over and over and over again on any show about Sondheim. I love "Not A Day Goes By", but out of the many times I have heard her perform it, it was only special once.

The In Memoriam sequence was maybe one step above the fiasco we now routinely expect from the Oscars, but that's not saying much. Why must these things feature a performer AT ALL? Am I wrong in thinking that that occasion is not about them? And boy, were those slides rushed. Oh, the hell with it. What a waste.

I love Bernadette, but I believe I have now seen - and heard - her actually growing old. And the tribute as a whole was kind of a nothing burger. I know it couldn't be long, but it needed to be something different, somehow.

About that “76 Trombones” dance number:  has it been moved in the show?  I don’t think Marian would dance that enthusiastically with Harold Hill as early in the story as that song usually appears.  And I still don’t see Sutton Foster as Marian…

No, I'm told that's the curtain call number they did last night.

But the whole idea of making The Music Man a tap dancing show in the first place is just hideous, in my puny little brain.

Saturday evening Richard and I sat in theatre seats for the first time since November 2019.  Well, it was Miami University’s Hall Auditorium, but close enough.  We were there for the Men’s Glee Club Alumni concert, which was wonderful.  It was live-streamed on the Glee Club’s Facebook page, so my sister joined us from Michigan and her daughter from Florida.

We had an agave that bloomed this year. Earlier it shot up a stalk that grew about a half foot a day, it seemed. It was about 30 or more feet tall and leaning over to fall onto our house.

We are supposed to get a storm this weekend, so we felt we needed to do something.
We pulled it over this morning so we could control where it fell and wouldn't damage anything. We've had enough falling things this year.

Back in May, I ordered a high-volume dehumidifier from Amazon.com.  It was a 2-day shipping order via UPS.

On May 26, I got a notice it was on a truck for delivery that day.

Later that day, I got a notice saying it was being held for delivery on request of receiver.

As receiver, I had made no such request, but I bided my time.

No updates of any kind have been available since then, so I have been in discussion with UPS today concerning when or if my package will be delivered.

I was first promised a callback within one hour.  Three hours later, I was told I would be called back by the end of the day.

All I want to know is whether I will get the package or whether to notify Amazon of its non-delivery in hopes of getting a new shipment.

Sigh.

I liked part of the Strange Loop song. But it didn’t do a lot for me.

I only made it halfway through the opening number. The white of her outfit did her no favors.

There was. I think it was "Like a Rolling Stone."

Was there no song from Girl From the North Country?

Yes.  Anthony Edwards, who is Mare Winningham's husband and rook over a role, introduced the show.

I clearly missed it, but I'm so happy my much-missed friuend Bruce made the In Memoriam tribute last night.

I miss him so damned much.

I just looked up Mare Winningham's IMDb page (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001858/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm) and it says that they've only been married since last year.  It doesn't say how long they've been a couple, though.

Back from a peculiar meal - new pasta place in the new shopping center where once was the Sportsman's Lodge. Ugly as sin and only high-end trendy jernts. I had the carbonara - the pasta itself is very fresh and flown in from Italy - but the sauce and everything else was just weird and kind of off-putting. Also, about three ounces of pasta, so very small portion.

The pasta sounds like a treat.  Do you normally order/like carbonara sauce?  Even when I ate meat it wasn't something I would have wanted.
