Guess I won't be able to stay up to see how the Bacharach show went.  A call would have been nice, but, I'll wait to read about it.

Just got back, BK, and I think it's way too late to be disturbing your beauty sleep.

Show went mostly very well.  A couple of little screwups, but I have been assured by several folk, including Betsy, that it wasn't apparent to the audience.  Everyone seemed very appreciative.  MBarnum was there, and he can give a more objective account of the proceedings.  I think that, all in all, it being our first time out with the insane rehearsal schedule we had, we pulled it off at least reasonably well.

Good morning, al!  I'm having an ache in my jawbone, and I wonder if there's an abscess?  Getting older is no fun some days.

Well, yesterday was a good day:  I wrote some fixes on one DARLING OF THE DAY number, and completed "Let's See What Happens" and "A Little Extra Shilling."  Today and tomorrow are BABES editorial days, but I have to get a bit of GOLDEN APPLE's cello book cleaned up before Monday morning.

I've ordered my Kritzerland discs, so I'm hopefully off the bitch-slap lists.  I was surprised to see myself in the video, and I treally liked the photos of the production and sessions.  Once again, I see no photos of the elusive Guy Haines.

Dear Friend BK, I would see MR & MRS SMITH for free, but it looks to me like a poor ripoff of PRIZZI'S HONOR.  I wouldn't pay for it.

DRJMK, congratulations on a successful opening.  I hope the polish and pacing are better tonight.

I'll just stick to a year for musicals:

1960:
Greenwillow
Bye Bye Birdie
The Fantasticks
Tenderloin
The Unsinkable Molly Brown
Camelot
Wildcat
Oliver (London)
Do Re Mi

Whew!  Just had a moment to visit the new KRITZERLAND site, and will be back for more this afternoon.  I pre-ordered the new GUY HAINES cd, and will anxiously await its delivery in July!  What a great line up of songs.

ANOTHER difficult trivia question.  I am headed back to the theatre to finish setting the light cues so that Monday's rehearsal will go well - even though the person doing the lights will be gone Monday & Tuesday - grrr.

I will be glad when next week is over!  Over 90 degrees here today and tomorrow they say.

More later.

I'm not sure I'm ready to offer my best season for musicals, but I will say that 1917 was a good year for Jerome Kern:
  HAVE A HEART
  LEAVE IT TO JANE
  OH, LADY! LADY!
Three of my favorite scores.

Also, 1925 was mighty tasty:
  NO NO NANETTE
  DEAREST ENEMY
  THE VAGABOND KING

Then there's 1956:
   BELLS ARE RINGING
   CANDIDE
   Li'L ABNER

okay I think I got it BUT I am also confused about

Name the person who played the lead in the hit play, and name the classic film they would co-star in (to great acclaim). Name the co-star from the hit play who also appeared in the classic film, and name the author of the novel the classic film was based on,

This I understand. They were in the play but not the film version. Did however appear in a classic film together that was based on a novel.

and the hit play that they had on Broadway at the same time as the hit play of our contest.

This I don't understand. How can they have a hit play on Broadway as the same time as appearing in the play for which they did not appear in the film version?

Morning, all!

How many miles does your new car have, DR Matt?  You know I have yet to put a thousand on Bonnie and I’ve had her since January.  Everyone teases me about that at work.

I guess I should plan a small trip to Orlando or someplace to give her a good run.

I'm very glad to hear that the Bacharach show went well.   :)  Good vibes for continued success with it!

The walking/eating tour is really starting to sound like fun!  Hard to believe we are less then a hundred days away from our gathering in the New City of York.

Well, not much else to say.  I have to make the usual shopping run.  Think I'll try to leave early so I can get home and veg.

Good Morning!

I ended falling asleep before midnight last night - which hasn't happened in a long time.  I got up around 8:30, but I'm still feeling a bit groggy, and it's already almost 10:00.   I went ahead and poured myself a half-cup of coffee, and hopefully that will help matters.

In any case...

DR Ben - Yes, I know Cones!  Those Argentinians really do know how to do it right!  Argentinians and gelati - who knew?!?  *And I seem to remember that there is some sort of direct lineage between Cones and Il Laboratorio.

*Actually, that part of The Village would make a days-worth of eating and touring in itself.  I can't recall specific names right now, but there are some nice Italian bakery, pastry and dessert shops down there.  Pizza - John's, Ray's, etc.  Then sampling all the various varietals of Olive Oils at Oliviers - which has really branched out, literally, in a very fast fashion.  That herb shoppe.  Coffee and tea shops.  Etc., Etc., Etc.

OH!!!

DR Jane - Have you heard about "teany"?  It's a tea shop and cafe that was founded by the musician/"rocker", Moby, and his wife.  Very world conscious and health conscious.  And vegetarian.

And on the Lower East Side - which opens another world of possibilities - culinary and otherwise.

*And I was surprised that no one had taken that name, "teany", before.  Just such a great play on words - tea and   N(ew) Y(ork).

And then there's also Rice To Riches - the rice pudding place.  Lots of flavors.  Lots of toppings.  And fun names for their concoctions: Cinnamon Sling, Rest in Peach, Almond Shmalmond, etc.

And a very cool website too!  -The opening animation is fun.

As for my favorite theater year, that's a tough one since there are several Broadway seasons that were wild with hit plays and musicals. DR Elmore mentioned 1956 and didn't mention MY FAIR LADY, but I think he's picked one of the greatest for certain.

But I think I'll have to pick the 1950-1951 season where we had

GUYS AND DOLLS
THE KING AND I
CALL ME MADAM
OUT OF THIS WORLD
MAKE A WISH
A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN
FLAHOOLEY
THE CONSUL

and the plays

COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA
THE COUNTRY GIRL
THE ROSE TATTOO

DR Danise, since I retired, I typically put between 3,000-4,000 miles a year on a car, and that's all. And if I don't do a show that involves commuting, even less than that.

I really do not drive much at all unless it's absolutely necessary, and with gas prices what they are, joy rides are strictly out of the question.

Just listening to one of the Broadway internet radio stations, and they just played "Spend, Spend, Spend" from Spend, Spend, Spend which apparently ran during the 1999-2000 season in London.

Oh, and now they're playing "Simply Heavenly" from Simply Heavenly...

-I guess they're running an English musical block right now.

Well, my car just hit 214,500 miles, so...

I remember being slightly amazed the first year I had my current and only car - I had driven it at least 14,000 miles.  So, as for the whole "1 Year or 10,000 miles whichever comes first"... Well, the 10,000 miles came first.

;)

I have to say I do love driving.  Even traffic can be fun at times for me.  Forces me just to relax and deal with it.  Listen to the radio.  Listen to music.  Watch the other drivers around me getting frustrated over something they can't control (sort of).  -Now, if I'm running late, well that's another story...

But if I can take the time do so, I do like going for a drive in the country - or even just around the neighborhood.  "There's such a lot of world to see..."

In fact, it looks like tomorrow will be an "exploring" day for me and my friend, Andy.  A friend of mine will be giving his graduate recital tomorrow afternoon out in Winchester - a nice hour's drive out Route 50 from DC.  So, the current plan is to drive out there for the recital, then to make our way back Route 50, stopping at all those various small towns along the way: Purcellville, Upperville, Middleburg (which is where that one contestant from that fashion show on Bravo lives, and has her shop), etc., etc...  Oh, and I guess we could take that small detour on Rt. 11 to the Rt. 11 Potato Chip Factory.  -And I bet the roadside vegetable and fruit stands should be quite "full" this time of year too.

"There is life outside your apartment..."

I really loathe driving for the most part. When I was dating a fella who lived 220 miles away, it was a GREAT endeavor for me to drive that distance so we could be together. I did it, of course, but the drives were torture. I much prefer travel by plane.

I feel so groggy and congested this morning, and my throat's a bit sore, but I'm still fighting to not get this thing full-force.  I notice they're having a garage sale across the street.  Maybe I'll mosey on over there.  I think I slept a little, but it was one of those nights where it seemed like I was awake the entire time.  Tonight: NYQUIL, baby, NYQUIL.

*BK - Be sure not to over do it with the Emergen-C.  Your body can only process so much Vitamin C at one time, and if you do happen to take it on an empty stomach, all the extra acid could cause problems, if you get my drift.

Is it possible that you're just having a bad allergy episode?

And you're actually drinking water too?  And admitting it!?!?!  What is the world coming to?!?!?

...And with everyone dealing with late spring colds, allergies, etc... It does sound like you may also have "Airplane Sickness".

Have you tried "Airborne"?  It's good stuff.  It was developed by a teacher who got sick of getting sick from her students.  They market it to frequent flyers and any other people who find themselves in constant contact with lots of people, crowds.  Lots of actors swear by it when working on movie sets.

I took a walk across the street - the usual junk no one would want - but they did have a fifty pack of CD-Rs, out of which only five were missing.  I bought that for five dollars.

It makes me realize what a garage sale I could have - I don't have ANY junk like that - I have great, great stuff, and if one could get the word out, I'd probably make a good deal of money.  But, someone would have to come and organize and do it all for me and take a cut.

I think previous seasons that were considered mediocre would be more thrilling than what we get now.  I'm going to have to do a little research; it's been awhile since I've thought about this.

Speaking of haircuts and taking "a little off the top,"
I got my hair (what little there is left of it) buzzed the other day.  Most of today's "Superstars" (and I use the term very lightly) weren't born the last time it was this short.   I'm kind of getting used to it and like it.  Some people have complimented me on it, and I'm sure others haven't even noticed.  I really was afraid I'd look like an old Zippy the Pinhead.  Luckily I don't look like Zippy--I'm not so sure about the old thing.  Sometimes I think it looks good, and then I'll unexpectedly catch my reflection and see someone looking at back at me who looks like he should be whispering, "Rosebud," and dropping a snowglobe to the floor.

BK and JMK can be very proud of themselves for last nights Bacharach show! I had a blast, the rest of the audience had a blast, and even though JMK said there were a couple of glitches...I'll be darned if I could tell what they were! It really was a wonderful show...and I am not just saying that to be nice!

I left the wedding party at around 9:45 and hightailed it to downtown Portland. Found a parking spot and walked up to the theater. There was a play earlier in the evening that was just letting out, so I waited by the front door. I then spotted Adair's boyfriend Dan and chatted with him for a bit. He is one heck of a nice guy. Works for IBM and gets to travel all over the world for his job.

I then spotted JMK's lovely wife Betsy (by the way, one of the nicest people you will ever meet) who was busily getting things arranged with the cashiers and the person who would be serving beverages in the lobby.

I was an early bird so I bought my ticket and went into the theater to get settled. I probably was not supposed to be in the auditorium just yet, as they were still setting things up, but no one one kicked me out and it was interesting to watch the sound crew arrange things.

Oh, yes, BK, I will be totally honest in my assessment!

Prior to the show beginning I chatted with a very nice lady who turned out to be Bruce Blanchard's mother. What a sweetheart! After the show I also met one of Bruce's sisters and a family friend.

Ok, on to the show:

Ok, one glitch that I noticed...there was a drip from a ceiling that was most annoying...it was a big drip and I kept expecting it to plop on Adair's head, which would have been most unseemly........oh, and I do think that Bruce might have had some difficulty with his dialogue at the beginning of the show...but those were the only things I noticed as far as glitches of any sort.

Adair Chappell:

Quite a personality on stage. One heck of a singer, and she did some pretty funny stuff up there too, as far as some slight facial reactions when she and Bruce are singing certain songs together...she definately knows here stuff..but then she is not new to this. And, my gosh, I had forgotten how many of Bacharach's songs are favorites of mine. If you could have seen my face you would have seen nothing but a huge smile during the entire show...all of those songs make me very happy!

They even did a section of Bacharach duds...songs that just didn't cut it...and it was easy to tell why! LOL!

Oh, and Adair and Bruce did THE BLOB... a favorite of mine, of course!

Bruce Blanchard: The guy has a wonderful voice. I think he does best with more powerful songs...or at least that is the type of song I enjoyed hearing him sing the most...the ones where he can get his voice deep and strong...like the song he did from PROMISES, PROMISES...which might have been called PROMISES, PROMISES...not to be confused with that other song called PROMISES, PROMISES......anyway, I think he did a wonderful job on his songs and if I recall he has only done one other show, CAMELOT. I hope he does more musical stuff...I would certainly go.
Title: Re:FINDING KRITZERLAND
Post by: MBarnum on June 25, 2005, 10:00:10 AM
But wait, there is more....

My favorite part in the show, besides the songs, was when Bruce mentions that many people have fallen in love to a Burt Bacharach song, himself included....then he mentions that some people get divorced to a Bacharach song...and points to Adair (LOL!)...then says that some people even have had affairs to a Bacharach song...then Bruce and Adair both look over to JMK (who is on piano)...it got many laughs!

Well, that is all I can think of to say right now...the songs were wonderful, the staging seemed great, and the audience loved it....we even clamored for an encore...which I think took Adair and Bruce by surprise as they were already chaning into their street clothes backstage! But an encore was most welcome as it was obvious that we didn't want the show to end!

You all did great!!!

OH, I forgot...I also saw Bruce's wife Jamie and she came up and gave me a big hug...she is so sweet, and so beautiful!!! I do believe that BK can attest to that! LOL!

Ok, must now drink coffee and read newspaper...if you need more specific info BK, just let me know and I will post more about it!

Hi all, Jami wife of Bruce Blanchard here.  Just registerd, have been lurking in the shadows for a week or so though.  I must say BK, the show was terrific!  And this opinion is coming from a very picky actor/wife! Especially when you are aware that the rehearsal time was extremly limited.  BB and AC are consumate performers and the band was top notch.  Your hand was evident, in the execution of a tight and well put together cabaret act.  Everyone had a smile plastered on their face the whole way through.  It's such great music.  There were a few issues with sound and diction etc. Bruce shouldn't have his shirt tucked in, he looks like a dad.  You know those kind of little picky things, but heck it was their first audience, it is only going to get better and better, they already have some corporate interest.  Mbarnum was adorable, such a nice energy.  It was lovely to see him there.

By the way, MBarnum, BB has quite an extensive resume, performing in NYC and around the world, He actually sings on two of BK's award winning albums.  Camelot is the only musical he has done in PDX since returning from NYC but he did just close "Death of a Salesman" (Biff) at the theater we were at last night.
Good Job BK, It was awesome! Hope you feel better.
Come back and direct me in something...
I'll wear white cotton panties.

Good Afternoon!

Back from lunch...

Steve and I ended up back in Carytown, and back at Can-Can for lunch.  Lunch was OK.  I ordered their Asparagus Tartine which friends of mine have ordered during past visits.  It's basically an open face sandwich composed of asparagus, country ham, a fried eggs, and some cheese.  It was always a pretty plate when it came to the table, so I decided to try it myself this time.  Well... They changed the "format" of the dish, made it more like a composed salad with the cheese melted over a hunk of bread on the side of plate.  The small plate.  Ah, well...  Live and learn.

Steve ordered their Salade Nicoise which turned out to be a very generous portion.  He liked it.

I just have the sense that the place is starting to coast on it's recently earned reputation - warts and all.  The staff even seemed surprised - and admitted - that it was busier today than expected - which I always take as a very indirect way of saying, "Sorry, the service has been a bit slow today."  In any case...

If I do return there, it will most likely be for dinner which is where all the culinary attention seems to be put anyway.

After lunch, we walked around Carytown for a bit.  Compleat Gourmet.  Mongrel.  For The Love Of Chocolate - which I actually walked out of without buying anything!  Then after a brief pass through EQ3 - a modern furniture store - we headed back to the apartment.  The heat had really started to heat up along with the humidity. Both of us are a bit zapped from it.  And I think we're both about take a nap.

And then after my nap, I'll go ahead and venture back up north to Fairfax.

But, first, that nap.

A big welcome to Jami!  Glad to hear your report.  Got one via e-mail from Adair, too.  Apparently, some staging had to be adjusted, because originally they were hoping for a full house, and since it's a thrust stage I had blocked a few things where the went to the extreme sides of the house - there weren't any people there, however, so I'm sure they made the easy adjustment to play where there WERE people.

I'm on my way to pick up packages and shall return momentarily.

Greetings from Chicago!

This will be a quick post because I'm in the ALA internet cafe and people are waiting to use the computers.  Our journey here yesterday was smooth, but took about 2 hours longer than I'd estimated (traffic jams around Indianapolis and Gary).  When Becky and I were checking in at the Hyatt, we were asked if we wanted to pay and extra $15 for a lake view, which we did and I will post a spectacular photo when I get home.  Because I'd requested a AAA rate, we were also given vouchers for breakfast for 2 in the hotel restaurant for each morning we're here (now, that's a deal!).  We tried to get into Wicked last night (sold out), but had great seats to see The Lion King.

Today, I'm in full conference mode at McCormick Place.

It's very, very hot in Chicago.

Thanks for the travel vibes, everybody - they really helped.

Jami, I am so glad you posted...and now I realize I have been misspelling your name all this time! LOL!

Jamiblanc, by the way is appearing in the stage production of ROCKY HORROR SHOW, which I am going to try to get tickets for next month!

I do hope the Bacharach show continues, and if it does, I do hope BK will be coming to Portland again as his last visit was a lot of fun!

And Jami is right, and I had sort of forgotten, that her hubby has done a number of other things on stage...and I had plum forgotten about DEATH OF A SALESMAN, which I would love to have seen! Perhaps JamiBlanc will keep me posted as to Bruce's (and Adair's) further stage exploits so that I don't miss anything fun!!

Wonderful reading about the revue and all the excitement!

The trivia question:

Great one. Work hard on it. Funny thing was I would have had it sooner but the wording was hard for me and I was working on another season that had plays that worked right up to the second to last question.
When BK reworded it I went back to my first thought and it worked!!

Good Afternoon!

All napped.

:)

We'll be heading out to dinner in a little bit.  Vietnamese tonight, a place called Mekong.  Very good Vietnamese food, and it's been open in Richmond for years.  I haven't been there in a long while, and since I have a drive ahead of me later tonight, Vietnamese food should be perfect since it's never really "heavy" food.  And one of Steve's neighbors will be joining us since he was the who called to see if we wanted to go to dinner.  :)

That's because MY FAIR LADY was a part of the 1955-56 season, and the musicals I mentioned were part of the 1956-57 season.  However, I was inconsistent; I really don't know if the 1925 shows I listed were all part of the same season or not.

Except that MY FAIR LADY won the 1957 Tony. And the shows it beat out for the Tony were BELLS ARE RINGING, CANDIDE, and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA (definitely a 1957 show).

I was going strictly by Tony eligibility (which has not been consistent from year to year admittedly).

Bruce maybe I should have mentioned this before you fed your cold, ;D however, “Feed a cold, starve a fever” is an old wives tale.

 From http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_154b.html
“Doctors have been trying to stamp out the above piece of folklore for years. Current medical thinking is that you want to keep an even strain when you're sick with either a cold or a fever, and you certainly don't want to stress your system by stuffing or starving yourself.”

I have to say I do love driving.  Even traffic can be fun at times for me.  Forces me just to relax and deal with it.  Listen to the radio.  Listen to music.

But if I can take the time do so, I do like going for a drive in the country - or even just around the neighborhood.  "There's such a lot of world to see..."

I think it wasn't until sometime in the 1970's where the Tony Awards followed the season June 1st-May 31st. I think it may have started with the 1973 Awards, but I could be wrong.

For example Company opened in April 1970. But it won its Tony Awards in the 1971 competion.

We watched the "Candide" DVD last night.  Mostly fun.  I still just don't "get" Ms Lupone.  Her diction was even worse than in "Sweeney Todd".  I really enjoyed "Candide's" performance too - what a wonderful voice. (I must do some research).

I've seen a few productions of "Candide" and have several recordings and two other versions on Video. I think the only way it really works is in concert. It just does not need elaborate sets etc.

The CD of her "Sweeney" is worth quite a lot of money these days. Don't know why - I can't listen to it. It is in the same class of Bernadette's "Song and Dance".
(and I do like soem of Ms Peter's work).

I must admit, Song and Dance is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.  I generally like Bernadette, but not ALW.  I realize it's far from "good," but there's something about it that strangely appeals in spots.

I'm completely with you in regards to Lupone, though, Tomovoz.

With "Song and Dance" I didn't care for the new lyrics either. I still much prefer the orginal "Tell Me On A Sunday" version with Marti Webb.  The video with Ms Brightman is OK.  The whole concept of an English girl in New York and then LA worked much better IMHO.

The "Letters Home" music resurfaces in Act One of "The Woman In White".

Prolific Disney Recording Artist Robie Lester Dies at 75

Grammy-nominated Hollywood singer/actress Robie Lester, singing voice behind Eva Gabor in The AristoCats and The Rescuers who, died Tuesday, June 14, of cancer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank at age 75.

Lester helped teach millions of children how to read beginning in 1965 as the “Disneyland Story Reader,” on the record label's 7-inch book and records sets. For seven years following, she told young readers to turn the page “when Tinker Bell rings her little bells.” Between the “little LP's” and full-length albums, Lester recorded more single Disney records than any other performer, playing a variety of roles from Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz to Duchess in The AristoCats, a “Storyteller” album that was nominated for a 1970 Grammy.

In the film version of AristoCats, Lester was the singing voice for Eva Gabor, a task she repeated in 1977 for The Rescuers. Lester was one of Hollywood's most sought-after studio soloists for countless commercials and recordings, including the Spanish vocal in The Sandpiper's hit single, “Guantanamera.” She also played schoolteacher Jessica (who becomes Mrs. Claus) opposite Mickey Rooney in the Rankin/Bass animated special Santa Claus is Comin' to Town.
Lester was born in Megargel, Texas and raised in northern Ontario, Canada.

After a few years in Detroit, she joined the United States Air Corps before attending UCLA with a major in music. In Hollywood, she worked with Henry Mancini and Herb Alpert, recorded for Liberty, Warner Brothers and A&M Records and sang demos for songwriters. Disney tunesmiths Richard and Robert Sherman brought Lester to the attention of Disney's in-house record label.

Lester spent her later years in Fillmore, California, writing novels, fund raising and crusading for animal rights. In the last few years of her life, she was gratified to discover a fan base that had grown up with her work.

Her last voice performance was for the Adventures in Odyssey radio series.

Lester is survived by her husband, producer Geoff Eccleston, daughter Mindy and three grandchildren.

More fairies in Queensland, Oz soon?

The Mickey Mouse state?

Chris Griffith
23jun05

THE Walt Disney Company is believed to be again considering a Disneyland-type venture in Queensland.

Sources told The Courier-Mail the State Development Department had been conducting a highly confidential assessment of potential sites of the dimension that a Disney park or resort would need.

Neither Disney nor the State Government would confirm or deny the step.

In fact, the Walt Disney Company was keen to highlight the success of its existing overseas theme park ventures in Paris and Tokyo, which it said had become the number one tourist destinations in both countries.

State Development Minister Tony McGrady, who is in the US, yesterday would not confirm or deny whether he had held talks with the Walt Disney Company or any other US theme park or resort conglomerate.

Sources said the department had been preparing a list of possible sites which included the Brisbane Entertainment Centre site at Boondall or ones near Gold Coast theme parks. They said any proposal to snare a Disney project would meet fierce competition from other states.

Disney itself also would not confirm nor deny any proposal "at this point".

Spokeswoman Michele Nachum, speaking from Burbank, California, said Disney was expanding its business outside the US. It already has international theme parks in Paris and Tokyo and is preparing to open Hong Kong Disneyland in September 2005.

"All I can say at this point is that we are always looking at strategic markets around the world to grow our business," Ms Nachum said.

"We are definitely looking around the world in strategic areas to look at whether we would build, not necessarily always theme parks, but expand our business in a multitude of ways."

This is not the first Disney proposal to be floated in southeast Queensland. In 1997, Disney held talks in the US with then Borbidge government minister Mick Veivers over a possible Bribie Island base.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said last night the mayors of southeast Queensland would be keen to work on any Disney proposal, but he was against the Boondall wetlands for conservation reasons.

Exactly right, DR Michael Shayne. The Broadway theater season as far as the TOnys was concerned used to end much earlier than it does now. COMPANY opened at the end of the 1970 season but it opened after the Tony cutoff date, so that allowed APPLAUSE to win the Tony for 1970 and COMPANY to win for 1971.

Good Evening!

Back in Fairfax...

Good dinner.   Steve's new neighbor, Paul, is a very nice guy.  And he comes up to DC a lot for work and family.  And he knows DC restaurants.  So, we may be checking out a new Ethiopian place up here next week.

:)

All in all, the two days down in Richmond were just what I needed.  After all the various agita I've been dealing with up here in DC the past two weeks, I just needed the escape.  And since I could actually afford the time to do so...

I'm still feeling a bit sobered from my visit to my storage unit, but I've planned out a plan, and barring any major roadblocks, it's all very doable.  Details to come.  Or not.  ;)

I just hope all the "stupid people" keep to themselves this week.

-Of course, there is Little Italy and Greek Town in Baltimore...

Hmmm...

If we are really going to eat at all the food places you and Ben have mentioned I will need to WALK, WALK, WALK to burn off the calories.  I will be very embarrassed if you need to roll me down the streets of NY. ;D

I don't think I've mentioned teany before... Hmm... But I have mentioned Teaism in DC.  In any case...

Well, if we make a full day of it, we can start on the Lower East Side at the Donut Plant and/or teany for brekkies... Walk across to Soho for Marie-Belle for the mid-morning chocolate break... Then to The Village for John's Pizza (lunch) and Cones (dessert, gelato) and Magnolia (snack, dessert)... Up to Chelsea with stops at Li-Lac and Chocolate Bar (mid-afternoon chocolate break) and the Chelsea Market (late-afternoon snack at Amy's Breads, Fat Witch Brownies and/or Eleni's Cookies)... Then make our way up to Midtown to the Cupcake Cafe (just because)...  Then up Columbus Cirlce just to see and/or eat at the Whole Foods at the Time-Warner Center - and rest our feet on the comfy chaises up on the third or fourth level overlooking the Park...  Then up to Artie's for dinner... Then across the street to Beard Papa Cream Puffs for dessert!

Sounds like a plan - and a very full day - to me!  *And we can zig-zag and back track on opposite sides of the street just to add some mileage.

*OH!  I forgot about Rice to Riches!

I'm home and at the Amercian Cancer Society's Relay For Life, I walked more than two and a half hours total.  Our team (The Bookers) raised more than $3,800!  And the event has raised about $275,000 total (which is less than the goal, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! ;))!

I was actually able to sleep (catnaps, really) during the event and at about 9:15 this a.m., I went home, showered, washed my clothes and took a nap (but not in that order).  I went back at about 3:00 p.m. and stayed until the very end.  After that, I went to my parents' house and played SuperScrabble.  I came in second after my mother (who tends to win all the time)!  We had fun, but I came home and had to post  Soonly, I must go to sleep in my bed and for the entire night!

Back from Mr. and Mrs. Smith, about which more later.  Now, may I just say unless we have a rally here, we're on our way to a new all-time low.  Seems peculiar to me, but there you are.

Tomovoz, do you mean Long Ago, Tomorrow?

I brought home some chicken soup from Jerry's.  I'm having terrible congestion pains in my chest, as if there were a little man in there squeezing everything very hard.

Okay, I have now eaten a vat of chicken soup with one matzoh ball.  Of course, the matzoh ball was the size of Glendale, but it was quite good and I'm hoping it will help heal me.

I'm eating rye bread now.

George, it's up to you.

George, for heaven's sake, WAKE UP out there.

Was today a holiday?  Why must everyone go all errant and truant on these weekends in June, June, June.  And then they all come back on Monday and say, "Oh, I had to twiddle my thumbs on Saturday," or "Oh, I had to clip my toenails on Sunday."

I'm also watching an NBC special on "The Da Vinci Code" (a book that I have not read) and the history (and myths) behind it.  It's somewhat interesting, but since I haven't read "The Da Vinci Code," I don't know what it's all about.

Oh!  When I got home, there was a package from Amazon.com waiting for me!  In it is the CD, "Sondheim Sings, Volume I:  1962-72" and the "The Entire Series:  Tabitha."  When I've caught up (and before I go to bed tonight), I want to watch the original pilot episode.  I remember watching the series when it was first on, but not any details about plot.

Tell us what you think of the original pilot.  At the screening I went to tonight, they were actually playing Sondheim sings Sondheim - of limited interest, and really terrible-sounding (all from acetates or old tapes - lots of scratches and such).

No. "Long Ago Last Summer" (I found love).

It was the single before Trask's version of "Our Language Of Love" from Irma.

I cleaned out my cookies today, so I had to re-log on in a few important places (like here and the bank), so I thought I'd say, "Hello"  since I was in the neighborhood.     So, Hello!!!!!!

Hi Tom, Bruce, Jose, George.  Did I forget anyone?

The song would have been produced/aranged or whatever by Mitch Miller I guess.

I've only been able to locate Diana Trask's Country songs when searching the net.  Even her Mitch Miller TV show album is not on Cd , though the companion one by Leslie Uggams has made it.

I will.

I figured that the sound would be pretty bad.  I know that old tapes and records can be cleaned up, but I never expect miracles in sound fidelity.

I bought the Sondheim sings Sondheim - interesting for the changes in lyrics. I didn't expect much more than that. I'm pleased to have it though I probably won't buy the new releases of Sunday, Merrily etc for the cut songs and demos.

Me three!

I'm now going to watch the original pilot episode of "Tabitha" starring our very own BK!!  I'll be back when it's over.

Although, one of my favorite lyric changes still has to be when one young gal came into an audition and sang, "Broadway, Baby"....

Like a Ziegfeld or a WEESman..."
