Well, you've read the notes, the notes were long and sleepy, and now it is time for you to post until the sleepy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RECHARGE!
-
TOD:
Enjoyed Michael Douglas in many films.
The War of the Roses
The American President
Wall Street
-
Fatal Attraction
Falling Down
Romancing the Stone
-
Most recently, although not a film, I really liked him in The Kominsky Method, a comedy- drama series on Netflix.
His chemistry with Alan Arkin is wonderful, and all of the supporting cast is excellent.
Actors will particularly enjoy this, as will those who appreciate the easily recognizable scenes shot in and around L.A.
-
Larry, I hope you wake up feeling better this morning.
Sending excellent vibes for your scheduled cataract surgery today.
-
Vibes to all in need.
Wishing everyone a happy Monday.
-
Vixmom, I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed Lindsay as Mary in Merrily.
I have known her since she was 15, and one year ahead of my daughter in high school.
They performed together, and it was obvious even then that Lindsay would be successful on Broadway.
-
She won her first Tony Award for Carousel in 2018.
She was excellent in Godspell, and fabulous as Elphaba in Wicked.
And she is a really nice person, warm, kind, and just as sweet and down to earth as she was at 15.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
~~~CONTINUED VIBES~~~ for DR elmore3003 this morning!!!!!!
-
Thanks for sharing your theeder thoughts with us, DR vixmom. Glad you had such a great day.
-
Just think: if you made a nativity scene out of cheese, you could have the Brie Wise Men.
-
And the baby cheesus.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning to all. I hope you all have a great week.
-
Ah, Monday. Back to work.
-
Last night, following my last post, my health went to pieces, with really awful gastrointestinal issues. I finally turned off the lights about an hour later than I intended. I slept very poorly.
Curiously, except for a fuzzy throat and nose, I feel well.
-
So, around 8:30, I will call the surgeon's office, describe my health, and let them determine if I should come in or reschedule.
-
DR vixmom, what a good day you had!
-
I think Lindsay Mendez played Helen in the Encores! production of The Golden Apple.
Hope things work out for you today, DR elmore3003. I hope your surgery does not have to be postponed.
-
Larry, Lindsay Mendez did indeed play Helen in the Encores! production of THE GOLDEN APPLE.
-
Iris, Lindsay was indeed wonderful. I had forgotten you mentioned knowing her . She really was wonderful and was very touching in performance and what a voice!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes of all sorts for Larry
-
Slept poorly. So tired.
-
More vibes for Elmore.
-
I had trouble falling asleep last night, or early this morning because I was still full of adrenaline from the wonderful Sunday
-
One more.
-
Two!
Now, of course, I’m having trouble waking up
I spoke to Gramercy Surgery Center, and they are calling my doctor. The young lady I spoke to believes the procedure will be canceled today. Now I wait for a return call.
It certainly sounds like it will be. And I would take that as being for the best, in spite of the disappointment and the drudge of having to put it off.
-
I am envious of vixmom’s Sunday. Congratulations on not only seeing two fine productions, but in having everything about the day actually go according to plan. What a treat! My adrenaline would be up in the air, too.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I am awaiting DR CHAS SMITH's BABYLON report - or are you sworn to secrecy?
-
Of course now that I have the names of the directors, I can do some work.....so I suppose I must.
-
My friend Jerry is coming by at 12:30 p.m. or so in order that I might take him for a birthday lunch.
He is coming into town because he wants to buy some paint for his winter project.....and we have a Menard's store in my one horse town.
-
I was introduced to Mr Michael Douglas in the television show THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. I thought he was very handsome and was a good actor.....
Movie wise:
Behind the Candelabra
The Game
The Wonder Boys
Wall Street
The China Syndrome
Adam At 6 A.M.
Summertime
Canceled!
Hello from the theeder, where I’m letting my bass player in to pick up his bass. After this, I must make brief stops at Costco, Shop Rite, snd a card shop.
Good. How are you feeling?
I don’t think I’ve been sick since 2019! During the pandemic, I was so worried about Covid that every day I took plenty of zinc, vitamin-C, vitamin-D, and a multiple vitamin. I haven’t done that since early 2022, and I’m sick. I’m very angry at myself for letting my guard down.
Well, hopefully it will pass!
-
Talked with Mom. She’s getting no response from her right leg. They’re working with her on it. Right now, she has a wheelchair to get around with. Her speech is getting a little better and so is her right arm.
May she be up to playing Sweeny in no time.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep, I think.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone? We've got a birthday week goin' on here.
-
A plethora of postings is what we need.
-
This morning we had breakfast with another Keith.
-
And we need a little Christmas.
-
Dinner tonight is with another Jane.
-
Where exactly are you, Jane? Here?
-
Is Jane here? Or there?
-
Or everywhere?
-
We rarely spend time with other people that have our names, to do so twice in one day has never happened.
-
I'm still thinking about which of two ideas will be the new book. I waffle back and forth and then I waffle forth and back and then I eat a waffle and waffle some more.
-
Where exactly are you, Jane? Here?
Downtown Phoenix ;)
-
One idea is an idea I've had since I began writing books, but I could never figure out a good way into it - I have now. The other idea is still embryonic but I have some notes and it's a genre I haven't really done, not properly.
-
I thought you were dining with people who live HERE.
-
Not THERE.
-
Why aren't you HERE?
-
Rather than THERE?
-
Better yet, why aren't you EVERYWHERE?
-
I have no idea what I should eat today, other than I will go out to get it (and bring it back). I'll call the mail place in a bit and see what's what.
-
Page four must be lurking somewhere close.
-
I sense it.
-
I feel it.
-
Could be. Who knows? It's only just out of reach.
-
Down the block, on a beach.
-
Under a tree.
-
Page four's coming, don't know when, but it's soon, here it is, close to noon.
-
I knew it was close and it just took my close personal friend, Stephen Sondheim, to get us there.
-
I heard there was no there there.
-
But what do I know.
-
I know things now.
-
Many valuable things.
-
Lucky #97
-
Back from the errands. I can finally put my feet up and rest for a short time before getting ready to leave for BABYLON.
-
DR Elmore reminds me that I have likewise been letting my guard down. I was doing pretty well at keeping up with the zinc, etc., throughout Carrie, but my attention to these little health matters has gone all to HELL since.
-
Mail place says nothing is there. So, guess I'll go out and figure out food for today. Cheapest would be Wacky Noodles, but I think I've overdone that. Could make spaghetti with red sauce, though, but that's boring really. And I don't want to make a mess here either.
-
Also cheap would be Taco Bell or my pepperoni pizza thing or, well, whatever.
-
Bruce ;D
-
The DH has just tested positive for COVID (rapid at-home test). We have been so careful for 3 years. I don't think there is any chance of my avoiding it, as we only have a living room, a bedroom, and a small kitchen.
-
Sorry, and good vibes. When did you both get the current vaccination?
-
This morning we asked our friends for a recommendation for Mexican food near our hotel. Now we have reservations at the restaurant they said was good.
-
Her speech is getting a little better and so is her right arm.
May she be up to playing Sweeny in no time.
For Mother’s Day one year, I did get her the official Sweeney apron with the blood dripping from the razor down the side. She wore it backwards.
-
Mega vibes for Singdaw and his DH.
-
And we need a little Christmas.
Thank you, Jerry Herman.
-
Monday evening greetings! The ladies’ luncheon was a success. I came home, changed clothes, and took a 2-hour nap.
-
Thanks! Sometime in September, DR Jane.
-
DR Elmore, I’m sorry you’ve had to postpone your eye surgery. Feel better soon!
-
Where exactly are you, Jane? Here?
Downtown Phoenix ;)
In the 13 years my mother lived in Phoenix, we spent very little time downtown. Went to the Herberger Theatre a couple of times and the Fiesta Bowl parade when Rob was a toddler.
-
DR Elmore, I’m sorry you’ve had to postpone your eye surgery. Feel better soon!
Thanks! I'm going to stay inside till whatever it is passes through my system.
-
DR Elmore, the luncheon I coordinated today took place in the room where we performed The Fantasticks, Apple Tree, Jacques Brel, Trial by Jury, Rodgers & Hart, etc. Lots of good memories…
-
If you were a health care organization, would you use Std in your texts? I received this today.
The Center for Special Surgery and its affiliates want to send you important healthcare and financial messages. Reply Y to receive or STOP to stop. Std rates apply
-
Five!
-
Thank you, all.
-
Jacques Brel was one Kino Lorber movie I debated buying. Then I remembered how much I disliked it and said no.
-
If I remember after 40 years disliking something that intensely, I’m probably not to change my mind.
-
Vibes for the mother of DR JOHN G.
-
Nothing at the mail place?
-
For some reason I thought DR CHAS SMITH was seeing Babylon yesterday.....
-
Very dark out for 6 p.m.
-
Thanks! Sometime in September, DR Jane.
I hope it is still protecting you.
-
I am watching SOLOMON & SHEBA - very unBiblical Biblical epic.
The best thing I can say about it is that Gina Lollobrigida is easier to understand than Claudia Cardinale ever was.
-
The lunch was most excellent and my friend liked his gifts - so the day was a success.
-
Where exactly are you, Jane? Here?
Downtown Phoenix ;)
Understandable as there isn't much to do here.
-
DR singdaw vibes for you and the DH......I hate COVID and the horse it rode in on.
-
DR JANE - I love meeting people with my name.....it leads to some lively conversations.
-
When we lived in Tiburon we hardly ever went to San Francisco even though there is much to do there ;D
-
DR JANE - I love meeting people with my name.....it leads to some lively conversations.
-
I will admit that I have stopped watching JEOPARDY! after many decades.
It is just not the same anymore and the cutesy look at me contestants have become tiresome.
So another milestone passed.
-
DR GINNY a two hour nap sounds like a good idea.
-
I may make the delayed meat loaf tomorrow....or I may wait until Wednesday.....I shall let the suspense build.
-
I have no idea what I should eat today, other than I will go out to get it (and bring it back). I'll call the mail place in a bit and see what's what.
I'm now having lunch at Panda Express.
-
Not their best (the Kung Pao Chicken has been sitting around just a little too long)...but definitely not their worst.
-
The DH has just tested positive for COVID (rapid at-home test). We have been so careful for 3 years. I don't think there is any chance of my avoiding it, as we only have a living room, a bedroom, and a small kitchen.
DR Elmore, the luncheon I coordinated today took place in the room where we performed The Fantasticks, Apple Tree, Jacques Brel, Trial by Jury, Rodgers & Hart, etc. Lots of good memories…
And speaking of The Fantasticks, today, I just received the 1961 Mexico City Cast Recording (http://stagedoorrecords.com/stage9095.html) from Stage Door Records in England.
-
I went out and picked up Panda Express, so that's two of us. I had the orange chicken and the sesame chicken, both very good.
Good afternoon.
Jane, you can take the light rail north on Central Avenue to the Heard Museum. It's a museum of Indian Art.
-
Did you rent a car?
-
Singdaw, I hope you have very mild cases.
-
Alert the media if you find the lost Stephen Sondheim CD - it's as if someone found the Shroud of Tourin.....
-
...if there were two dozen of them....
-
He's trying to defend himself and say he never said it was the only copy, but that's exactly what the headline infers and the article says. I believe he went to his publishers and told them - good publicity for his book on Sondheim. Sondheim sent these kinds of things basically to anyone who asked. There are many out there - it's not one-of-a-kind or rare at all, nor is it the "first Sondheim cast album." It's an amateur recording done on an early tape recorder.
-
DR GINNY a two hour nap sounds like a good idea.
It was totally unintentional, but I must have needed it.
-
Jane, there are some wonderful art galleries on Main St. and the surrounding areas in Scottsdale.
-
If you’re still there on Thursday, there is a special ArtWalk, with wine, music, and other entertainment.
I lived in Phoenix for 20 years, and my friends always enjoyed the galleries and restaurants.
-
Vibes for the DH of Singdaw!
-
Continued vibes for John’s mom.
Hope to hear encouraging news.
-
Feel better vibes for Larry.
Are you able to have chicken soup delivered?
Wish Artie’s was still around.
-
Very interested in hearing DR Chas Smith’s review of Babylon.
What an amazing cast!
-
Jane, I also highly recommend the Musical Instruments Museum.
Check it out online and see if it would be of interest to you and Keith.
-
ZooLights at the Phoenix Zoo is quite beautiful.
-
And, if you’re up to it, hiking around Camelback Mountain is fun.
If you have a car, make sure you take in a view of the city lights at night.
-
I may make the delayed meat loaf tomorrow....
A meatloaf delayed is a meatloaf denied.
-
Thanks for all the well wishes! So far, I am asymptomatic.
-
Page seven is in sight.
-
I can see it.
-
Shining somewhere.
-
I can see it from my backyard.
-
I can also see the sun in the morning.
-
And the moon at night.
-
I can see it all the livelong day.
What is this nonsense?
-
Beats me.
I enjoyed it, for the most part. The Luisa was a bit shrill (to me), but she otherwise sang well enough...as did everyone else. And I thought the sound was pretty good.
It is very hard to find a good meatloaf in a restaurant. Daily Grill had one - maybe I'll go there.
Finished one terrible movie.
BK, does the Cheesecake Factory have good meatloaf?
Haven’t tried it, but their recipe is frequently featured online.
-
Daily Grill’s recipe does look better.
And Art’s Deli has a meatloaf sandwich.
-
But, hey, what do I know?
I don’t eat meat. 😊
We are getting a car tomorrow afternoon.
-
DR JANE that's what I call a real friend!
-
I just stumbled on that thread about the CD.....but after reading his posts, I'm surprised he didn't call his book ME & STEPHEN SONDHEIM....but I didn't want to put that in the thread and start a whole NEW mishagoss.
-
I know DR VIXMOM. Any movie during which Brad Pitt walks around in his underwear is A-OK in my book.
-
Meat loaf.
-
Oh dear.....it seems Kirstie Alley has passed away....I just saw DR RON PULLIAM's bookface post.
-
ZooLights at the Phoenix Zoo is quite beautiful.
.
I saw photos. They are beautiful. I doubt we will return after dinner in Goodyear.
-
Jane, are you planning to visit Ramsey Canyon Preserve in Sierra Vista?
I’m a huge fan of hummingbirds, and Sierra Vista has more varieties than anywhere in the world.
Wish I could go with you!
-
And, if you’re up to it, hiking around Camelback Mountain is fun.
If you have a car, make sure you take in a view of the city lights at night.
I wish we had more time. We will be hiking South Mountain Park with DR Laura.
-
South Mountain Park sounds great.
-
As does page 8
Hope we’ll see photos!
Yes to photos.
Jane, are you planning to visit Ramsey Canyon Preserve in Sierra Vista?
I’m a huge fan of hummingbirds, and Sierra Vista has more varieties than anywhere in the world.
Wish I could go with you!
The only plan is to see Tombstone and Bisbee. I would like to go to either to Ramsy Canyon or Kartchner Caverns. I don't know if we will have enough time.
-
Do we need to go to the preserve to see the hummingbirds or are they simply everywhere in the Sierra Vista area?
-
South Mountain Park sounds great.
Thanks
-
I thought we'd drive up the mountain to the parking lot, then go to Fat Man Pass.
My DH suggested the arboretum in Superior.
-
I'll leave it up to Jane and Keith. Either South Mountain or the arboretum would be fine with me.
-
The arboretum in Superior. They might also want to go to the garden in Phoenix, but I'll take a pass on that.
-
It is very hard to find a good meatloaf in a restaurant. Daily Grill had one - maybe I'll go there.
DR Laura I am trying to compare the two locations.
-
Oh dear.....it seems Kirstie Alley has passed away....I just saw DR RON PULLIAM's bookface post.
Oh, no. :( I was never a fan of her religion (or her politics), but she was a good actress.
-
The arboretum is about 50 miles out of Phoenix, and it's easy walking, with an uphill loop with good footing. Probably my favorite place in Arizona. There's a lake, so birds are plenty.
South Mountain is a hiking trail with rocks and boulders. I suggest driving up the mountain and hiking from the parking lot. I haven't hiked up from the bottom in quite a while. It can be pretty difficult in places. There's no water nearby the trail I'm thinking of, so not a great birding spot.
-
I thought we'd drive up the mountain to the parking lot, then go to Fat Man Pass.
My DH suggested the arboretum in Superior.
The trails at the arboretum look beautiful. Fat Man Pass pops up as one of the best hikes in the area so let's stay with that. I just hope we find the correct parking area.
-
South Mountain is much closer, right?
-
I'm sure it's Hidden Valley that's listed. You go through Fat Man Pass and come out the Natural Tunnel. The trouble is that there's a lot of scrambling up and sliding down huge boulders, and I've reached the age where I'm afraid of getting hurt. I haven't done that hike in years.
But you can hike to Fat Man Pass and take the regular trail to the Natural Tunnel. It's just not in Hidden Valley.
I've posted tons of photos from the arboretum over the years.
Yes, South Mountain is in Phoenix.
Keith would prefer staying local.
-
Did you bring hiking boots?
Just tennis shoes.
-
Is that a problem
-
They named a pass after me? They never let me know.
-
I guess lots of people hike in tennis shoes. You'll probably be fine. The trail I picked is not too rocky.
Watching a fun one called Merrily We Live. Constance Bennett, Brian Aherne, Billie Burke at her Oscar-nominated best, Patsy Kelly and more. Perfectly daffy.
-
Great. I don't even know if my boots are still wearable, even so they wouldn't have fit in my little carry-on.
-
Jane, I’ve only been to Ramsey Canyon, so not sure if the hummingbirds are visible everywhere.
They have a live hummingbird camera online, which I check out from time to time.
-
There’s also a Visitor Center if you’re in the area and only have a short time.
-
It is very hard to find a good meatloaf in a restaurant. Daily Grill had one - maybe I'll go there.
I tend not to like anyone else’s meatloaf…except the Vixter, she makes a nice meatloaf
-
I have friends who run vineyards in that area.
Arizona grapes make excellent wine.
Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
I get meatloaf from Mom's. ;D
-
'night
-
Jane, I meant to ask if you were planning to spend any time in Tucson.
-
If so, don’t miss Sabino Canyon.
-
Finished the second movie. Better than the first, certainly.
-
Had a few nuts and then some muenster cheese.
-
That was a fine snack.
-
Thinking about watching something else.
-
I see TCB is in absentia and of course George is nowhere to be found because he's in a rabbit hole or sleeping or doing some unseemly thing, and so we have not progressed one iota since my last post two HOURS ago.
-
That is just wrong.
-
Wrong is right.
-
Still, I do feel page ten is somewhere around here, so maybe we'll get there without the errant and truant boys.
-
Then again, maybe we won't.
-
It's suspenseful around these here parts.
-
I'm listening to an Ernst Krenek symphony, which I think of as music to become a serial killer by.
-
Well, page ten as I live and breathe.
-
And we got here without the errant and truant boys.
-
Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
-
It's still eight minutes until notes.
-
I was paying a game on my phone...and I'm not sorry! ;D
-
Tonight's rehearsal went pretty well.
-
Both the light and sound designer had most of their stuff done, but they both still need to work on them.
-
Otherwise, what was there (certainly more than 90% from both) was quite good.
-
Perhaps I'll do a modern ballet to this Krenek symphony - all angular and weird movements. The scenario of the ballet will be thus: A group of ballet dancers find themselves in an all-black room, a void. Each has some kind of angst. In the center of the void is a black table with a plate on it and on the plate is a peanut butter sandwich on white bread. Each dancer has a different attitude to the peanut butter sandwich and the sandwich is their undoing, even though they never touch it. Finally, one lone dancer is left. As a spotlight tightens in on the peanut butter sandwich, the lone dancer dances around the table in angular fashion, takes a bite of the sandwich and dies. Curtain.
-
Wouldn't that be a fine ballet?
-
I call it The Sandwich.
-
It's a great show (Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, that is)...highly recommended, if you get to see a production in or near your area.
-
No playing games on phones when we're trying to have postings.
-
What about it?
-
I'm told that in a few minutes it will be Tuesday. I thought today was Tuesday. Go know. Today is Monday.
-
But in a few minutes it will be Tuesday.
-
George has already gone down another rabbit hole.
-
How many rabbits does one person need?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
George has already gone down another rabbit hole.
To quote Sondheim, "I'm still here."
-
I've seen and read them, not necessarily in that order.
-
To quote page ten: "Where in HELL is page eleven?"
-
I've seen and read them, not necessarily in that order.
I certainly would hope so!
-
To quote page ten: "Where in HELL is page eleven?"
Only five more posts!
-
It's Tuesday now, not Wednesday or Monday.
-
We can DO it.
-
Can we make it??
-
It's not the impossible dream.
-
It's here somewhere.
-
I knew it!
-
PAGE ELEVEN DANCE!!
-
Gratuitous Post #303!!
How long before the day is locked?
