Well, you've read the notes, you've read the red-letters, and now it is time for you to post until the red-letter cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FULCRUM!
-
Dear BK.
Today’s Column is still August 3rd one…
-
I shall take a well-balanced approach to the topic of the day and give it considerable thought. I have never been a slave to fashion. Even high platform shoes in the 70's were not for me - and people thought I needed them! If I ever am up-to-date with fashion it is accidental or because I have been given the attire by well-meaning relatives!! I detest shopping for clothes.
-
Good morning, DR TOMOVOZ!
For some reason, I can't get Today's Note.I don't know why.
-
I mean today's Today's Note.
-
Happens to me sometimes DR Hisaki. I usually have to shut down the computer and log on again.
It's not good morning for me!! It's 18.30 hours!
-
Thank you and Sorry, DR TOMOVOZ!
I'll try to long on again and Good Evening to you.
-
I shall take a well-balanced approach to the topic of the day and give it considerable thought. I have never been a slave to fashion. <SNIP> ! If I ever am up-to-date with fashion it is accidental or because I have been given the attire by well-meaning relatives!! I detest shopping for clothes.
My sentiments, exactly! I rarely shop for clothes. I actually wore the same shirt two of the three times that I went to the Portland, Oregon HHW Get Togethers (a year apart, though).
-
Tomovoz, I'm going to send you an e-mail with two Word document attachments. Let me know if it does/doesn't work.
-
The new notes are definitely up. Either refresh, or try using another browser (IE or Safari).
-
FULCRUM, baby, FULCRUM!
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I was, as I sometimes do, perusing the first edition category on eBay. I have never seen such a bunch of crooked sellers in my life, and the fact that eBay lets this stuff happen is shameless. My favorite was a first edition of Mickey Spillane's I, the Jury, which in fine condition, might fetch six or seven hundred bucks, maybe a bit more. This copy is in VG condition but is signed and has an opening bid of 750 and a buy it now for 1000. However, when you read the description what do you find out? That the dust jacket is a Xerox facsimile, which, in plain terms, means that this book is just about worthless - maybe fifty bucks because it's signed.
-
I actually played some stuff today arrangeed by Dino, it's lovely stuff, mostly for church and meditative purposes, but fun to play nonetheless.
-
Tonight was the first music rehearsal for "I Love You, You're Perfect Now Change" and I found that I really enjoyed every minute of it!! I think it's because I LOVE my cast. They are all musicians and they all read music. They are going to make the material, both the scenes and the songs, come to life. And yes, they all have a copy of the recording!!!
-
Dino is the berries, baby.
I'm tired, but I'll stay up until I know dear reader Hisaka can see the notes.
-
Finally I got the notes via Internet Explorer, not Safari still now.
I go back to the notes. See you.
-
Thank you , dear BK, for waiting for my success!
-
Glad you arrived back safely DR Hisaki. Have a good night.
-
DR VIXMOM; belated welcome back! The site is more gay with you. :D How was the incredible loooong flight journey?
-
I gambled DR George. Terrific work. Only me that got it wrong (Updide down first try!). I will wait until morning!!!
-
Thank you for the nice report from the Collectors’ show, DR MBarnum. It’s very interesting, since I intend to go to the show in the near future.
By the by, did you see the Godzilla’s photos I posted on 29th July? Hope you like them.
-
A question to anyone.
I found this poster on a site and would like to know if it’s an original one (design). Just I'm curious.
-
Good morning, all! Yes, it's 4:50 am or so, and I've been up for around 20 minutes. I want to finish the bassoon part this morning before I leave the apartment around 8:15. I have a full day out and about: haircut, Tams-Witmark, where I'll work on the trombone part and answer all questions on what I've been working on here for the past two days. Hopefully, by this evening I'll be down to Horns, Trumpets and Clarinets.
I shall be E&T most of the day, so I wish you all a good one, and a good night to DRs George, Hisaka, and tomovoz!
-
Good Morning all.
I also up real early this morning. It must catching.
-
DR TomofOz:
You said yesterday on posting 298
I'm still puzzling over his "marriage". It was more of a shock than his death
Who were you refering to? I must of missed the earlier posting.
-
As for the Red Letter Day.
Isn't it the letter A for Adultry? And the day is when they put it on the person. I know its scarlett in the book and in the movies but isn't scarlet red?
-
And as for TOD
Worst: Hot Pant and yes I did. But I was only 11 or 12 and I didn't have fashion sense back then.
-
DR TomofOz:
You said yesterday on posting 298

Alexander the Great DR Michael. He and I were at School Together. (A few years ahead of TCB)
DR Sandra had been studying the life and times of the man.
-
Hello Larry. I hope everything goes very well indeed for you after this early start.
-
And one for Mahler!
-
WHY AM I STILL AWAKE???? Well, on that note (Q diminished ;)), I'm off to bed for (practically) a short nap. I still have to get up at my regular time. Goodnight Tomovoz. I'm glad the booklet worked (for the most part). :D
-
Good morning DR Ben.
-
Hello, Tom!
Oh, my. 32 posts at 7:38am NYC time. MY fulcrum is out of whack seeing so many posts so early.
I, too, hate to shop for clothing. It's difficult to shop when you are of small stature and most everything is too big. There was a small mens shop here in NY in the early 80s but it's gone now. There are some on-line stores featuring clothing for smaller men. There is also a place in Ohio though I can't remember where. I get their catalogue in the mail quarterly. The hardest thing to buy for me is shoes. I have small feet (size 6) and finding decent shoes is a chore so if I find a pair I usually resole and re-heel them until they fall apart.
This has nothing to do with style, etc. but just thought I would share.
-
I took so long to answer that post that Tom went to sleep.
He will see it later today (tomorrow in Australia time).
-
I don't know anything about proper clothing, but since "red-letter day" brought up THE SCARLET LETTER, I do have a mildly cute SCARLET LETTER story, although it may be too early in the day for some people to read it. :)
Back in spring of 2003, RADIANT BABY and F***ING A, a play based on SCARLET LETTER, were playing at the Public. Heading toward RADIANT BABY, the freshly scrubbed, wholesome ushers were announcing "RADIANT BABY is to your right, bathrooms for RADIANT BABY are to the rear, etc." and that was nice enough.
But when I wnet further into the lobby, similarly freshly-scrubbed, wholesome ushers were sweetly announcing, as if they were the most natural words in the world, "Elevators for F***ING A are to your left, bathrooms for F***ING A are in the back, if you're picking up F***ING A tickets, just follow the sign."
Maybe you hadda be there, but it's one of my fondest Public Theater memories.
-
TOD:
Worst Fashion Trend: Vellore, in the late 70s, early 80s. There was way too much of it and it was all mostly in those drab earth tones. Also, wearing jeans with the top button undone and anything in the International Male catalog (fun to look at, but who in their right mind would wear any of that stuff?)
Best: the resurgence of natural fabrics in the 80s.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up.... Hmmm...
Apparently, the lounge at the end of my hallway - a very short hallway - is the designated gathering place for post-show, post-rehearsal gatherings. And since there was something on both mainstages and a workshop, there were quite a few people in there last night. Talking. Loudly. Smoking. Which is illegal on the Williams Campus. At 2:00am I could deal with it - heck, I was still up. But come 3:00am... Hmm... I may have to check in with Company Management this morning...
But I'm up...
-
As for fashion trends...
I tend to try to wear the new "in" colors and patterns. Most of the time, they simply don't work with/on/for me.
And speaking of colors, I've never liked that green variation - some seasons it's called "lime", some seasons it's called "chartreuse"... I think it's called "celery" this year. And I've seen very few people - mainly women - who actually look good in that color. Very hard to pull off.
And I'm hoping that "cantaloupe" for men fades away soon. I saw a couple of shirts in that shade at Brooks Brothers and Talbot's for Men... Hmmm...
-
And the word of the day is: FULCRUM!
Try as we might, we could only get a part of the leverage we needed, because we only had a half-fulcrum.
::)
-
And now I must finish dressing and head out for the day... Oh! and it's pay day today too!
...And I think I'm going to fast today. Just feel I need to right now. We'll see...
-Boy, was that random!
Laters...
-
My sentiments, exactly! I rarely shop for clothes. I actually wore the same shirt two of the three times that I went to the Portland, Oregon HHW Get Togethers (a year apart, though).
This habit would make you easier to recognize in a crowd.
-
...Worst Fashion Trend:...anything in the International Male catalog (fun to look at, but who in their right mind would wear any of that stuff?)
A friend of mine (back in my softball days) dragged me into their store once. A saleswoman (yes, female in the gender department) followed me around, insisting that I sample some fragrance she was touting. No amount of growling on my part could shake her off. I swear, she would have followed me out of the store into the parking lot if she could.
I do not like artificial fragrances, not on women and most particularly on men. Bleh. :P
-
LOL, FJL!
-
I fully understand what Ben is saying, when he talks about how hard it is to find clothes made for the small of stature. Being tall, as I am, I'm faced with a similar problem, that many stores just don't carry pants in my size.
Shirts, on the other hand, are much easier to shop for. Even there, I'm fairly conservative in my tastes; it's easier for me to justify the expense if I'm going to wear the shirt for several years. (This rule has been breached since I retired, however, with the inclusion of Hawaiian-style shirts, much brighter than anything I'd been wearing before, if still relatively sedate for the style.)
I have never worn shoulder-pads.
-
THE DUCK FOLLIES
Today we will find out just how large a duck I'll be cooking. This will have a huge bearing on how long I'll have to roast it. It amazes me, however, how many of the recipes just call for the bird to be roasted until the skin is golden and crispy...what kind of nonsense is that? I want to make sure the meat inside is medium-rare (over-cooked duck is the pits), but no one is telling me what the inside temperature should be!
Serves me right, I guess, to be reading cookbooks that were written before Poldar came out with their remote thermometers.
I've pretty well decided upon the right sides to serve with the duck. Wild rice should do nicely, I think, as should roasted beets. Der B loves beets, and the red will make a nice color contrast with the orange sauce.
(Of course, if I were using blood oranges for the sauce the plate would be very monochrome, but I don't think they're in season.)
-
Today is National Chocolate Chip Day!
-

...
I have small feet (size 6) ....
Might this have been the Cadet Shop on Hudson Street? I recall buying a couple of sweaters there at one point.
And might I say you are a brave man to admit your shoe size in this crowd. ;)
-
TOD:
Two words: Double knit.
'Nuff said.
-
I do not like artificial fragrances, not on women and most particularly on men. Bleh. :P
I don't mind colongnes on women or men, but I don't like unisex fragrances, like the kind Calvin Klein has been pushing for the past ten years or so. I like my women to smell like women and my men smelling like men.
-
Twenty years together, and I'm still learning things about der B.
Last week, he let slip that he'd taken violin lessons when he was a sprig of a twig. I'd never known about that before. He swore he'd told me at some time, of course.
Yesterday, he chided me for playing some of Pajama Game on the DVD player the night before. Turns out, he'd been in the chorus of a production once, and was one of the boys that did "Steam Heat." That, and he got to tango during "Hernando's Hideaway" and polka during "Once-a-Year Day".
I'm still having trouble thinking of him as a dancer. They must have been desperate. :-\
-
I've never been a slave to fashion, though I have found myself far more aware of my clothing since I moved to New York. It's hard to be in this business and NOT get caught up in wearing the latest styles - you're sort of expected to if you want to stay in the game.
My look is a very classic one: shabby chic. It never goes out of style. :)
I do remember in the mid-90's when everyone was wearing ponchos. I had one. They were hideously ugly things now that I look back on them, but I thought I was the bee's knees wearing that thing. And Hypothermic shirts that would change colors when you got hot. I thought those were neat, too, until I got one and realized that my armpits were ALWAYS a different color than the rest of me. And then there were the silk shirts that clung to every lump and bump on your body.
And who can forget Swatch watches (with multiple Swatch Guards [the more you wore, the cooler you were]), K-Swiss shoes, "Chucks," "Bucks," "Docs" and color block shirts. God, I hated the 90's!
-
Stuart said (or asked, actually):
Might this have been the Cadet Shop on Hudson Street?
Oh, my, yes! That was the place. With all the small statured gay boys running around the Village then I'm surprised it didn't stay in business longer.
-
DR Ben, why don't you just shop for clothes and shoes at department stores in the teen sizes. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to get nice shoes or clothes that would actually fit.
-
I was waiting patiently for someone to mention double knits, which I, I'm ashamed to say, wore for a time (it was hard to find slacks that WEREN'T double knits). And velour was awful. So were Nehru jackets. And most of the "hippie" fashions. But, the worst fashion ever is right here, right now - rappers, teens in baggy shorts hanging so low that the crotch of the shorts sits on their knees, knit caps, that whole awful look for guys - and then there are the girls with the low jeans (going out of style), the thongs (going out of style), and the whole slut look (thanks to charming young people like Britney and their "handlers").
-
TOD: I do remember at one point in time, owning several pairs of stirrup pants in a rainbow of colors. I did the double pair of socks thing, matching my socks to my outfit of course. I also owned a pair of LA Gears... ah the 80's.
-
DR VIXMOM; belated welcome back! The site is more gay with you. :D
Announcing my return and beating TCB to the punch in one post (no mean feat), may I ask: could this site be any more gay? ;)
-
I have always been very simple in my clothing tastes. Of course, I have not been immune to fashion trends over the years. I still remember during the 90's when I thought that black stretch pants and big t-shirts were the coolest things on the block. Then I went through a brief overall phase during early college years. Ugh...glad that one passed. These days I stick to jeans and simple shirts for the most part. There are some fashion trends I would love to get into, but I just can't seem to do it. For example, the peasant/bohemian shirt styles that have been all the rage this summer. I love the look of them, and have been trying since Memorial day to find one that suits me...but to no avail. I just can't pull off the look. They flatter my body type just fine, just not my personality. Ah well...
-
Not to mention avoiding being bitch-slapped from here to eternity and hell and back, you whippersnapper.
-
And what's with the new underpants trend of what they call "boy shorts" which, to me, are as ugly as anything? I've never seen boys underpants look like these "boy shorts". Why can't they just go back to nice classic bikini-style underpants for women, the kind you can still get from Calvin Klein or Hanes Her Way.
-
Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
DR Ben, why don't you just shop for clothes and shoes at department stores in the teen sizes. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to get nice shoes or clothes that would actually fit.
I'm trying to imagine DR Ben running around in short-shorts and tops with his navel showing.
It don't work. :-\

Looks like Amazing Race 8 came to Canada:

Were your stirrups and socks in fluorescent colors? Did you wear more than one fluorescent t-shirt at a time for maximum color saturation? Did you have friendship bracelets? More importantly, did you make friendship bracelets, cause anyone who was anyone made friendship bracelets.
And how many Simpsons and Batman t-shirts did you own?
-
Time to go to work! Have fun with the chocolate chips!
-
Oh god, I'd forgotten about the stirrup pants...*shudder* What were we thinking??
I never could get the hang of friendship bracelets, but I did enjoy Snap Braclets....anyone remember those?

LOL--is that a challenge?

For some reason, I had been holding my tongue on DR Hisaka's comment. It seemed like just a way-too-easy target.
We love you, DR Hisaka, but the word "gay" has far too many definitions around these here parts. Though just the other day someone (it might have been errant DR/DB Jay) mentioned to me that they wished they could use the word in its original meaning, just has DR Hisaka has.
BTW (By the way, in internet lingo), nice new avatar, DR Cillaliz.
-
The friendship bracelets were EASY! The trick was to safety pin them to your jeans so you could keep both hands free for braiding.
As DR JMK said, could this site get more gay??
-

I like the boy shorts! So does Rodzinski... or is that too much information??

Why yes, I did own a number of flourescent items of clothing. And I'd forgotten about the double t-shirts. You had to layer them and then roll up the sleeves so that the second color would show. These two colors also had to match my double socks. I also think I had shirts that had the second shirt sewn in with the cuffs sewn in as well.
And yes, I made friendship bracelets- in many colors and patterns. And I safety pinned them to my pants while I was making them.
-
Ann, I had snap bracelets. They were eventually banned from my school because supposedly the metal inside could wear through and cut your wrist. Urban legend or true life?
-
Why do I feel like this has turned into true confession day for me? I had forgotten about many of these embarrassing trends.
Note to self, burn all photos from middle school and early high school years.
-
DR Ben, why don't you just shop for clothes and shoes at department stores in the teen sizes. I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to get nice shoes or clothes that would actually fit.
If I might answer for DR Ben, and expound upon what DR SWW implied, the idea of shopping in the male equivalent of a junior's department doesn't really work. The sizing might be right, but the style would be all wrong. Just try to find a pair of Bass Weejuns, or (at that time) Levi's 501s, or any of the other preppy/clone gear that was popular back when the Cadet Shop was open, in one of those "Young Men's" departments, and you would see what I mean. This shop to which DR Ben and I refer meant that a more mature man could buy clothes that were age appropriate, but just in smaller, harder-to-find sizes. Granted, I was all of maybe 18 - 22 when I was shopping in there, but I did always like older, preppy men.... ;)
-
These shirts were "cool," but not for us sweaty kids...
-
I like the boy shorts! So does Rodzinski... or is that too much information??
Way.
;)
-
How about leg warmers. Mine were rainbow colored. I never really liked the peasant shirts, although I wore them. I thought they made every woman look pregnant
-
Jason, I had the one in the center of the photo.
-
I, too, love the word "gay" in its original meaning.
-
Ah yes, the rolled up double t-shirt. I remember those days. I also tight-rolled my jeans.
There was a period of about 9 months that I was on the prowl for a bomber jacket. I don't think I ever got one. Not while they were still in style, anyway.
Another trend that I went for which makes me absolutly shudder now was the colored bands on my braces. I had blue braces, red braces, purple braces and yes - even green ones. My orthodontist would even color coordinate for the holidays, alternating red and green for Christmas and pastels for Easter. Orange and black for Halloween. Well, you get the idea. The green bands sort of made me look moss-mouthed. Not attractive.
Now I realize why I never smiled in any pictures taken during middle and high school.
-
I, too, love the word "gay" in its original meaning.
As in don we now our gay apparel?
-
These two colors also had to match my double socks.
DR TPunk, I too always match my socks to various items of apparel I am wearing. I used to be MUCH more obsessive about it. To the point that a former boyfriend broke up with me because I wore pink socks with penny loafers, grey pants (anyone else remember Reminiscence? When it was off Washington Square Park?) and a pink shirt.
My proudest moments include peach socks, peach shirt (or perhaps this is now called "cantaloupe" as DR Jose mentioned last night), peach and green striped bow-tie AND a peach yarmulke to a Friday night service. OK, it was at the Gay Synagogue, but still.... (And yes, I wore pants, too....)
Another was finding a pair of argyle socks that precisely matched an argyle sweater of mine. Also Pink and black tweed socks that matched another sweater of mine.
-
Our hearts were young and gay.

That's a lot of pink, Stuart... a LOT of pink. ;)

That's a lot of pink, Stuart... a LOT of pink. ;)
They were summer outfits. They offset my tan. ;) (This was before I realized that blue set off my eyes better!)
Besides, I was never one of those New Yorkers who wore only black.

Better get back to the seminar. I'm a co-chair of the committe that organizes the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers continuing legal education national seminars. I'm in the learning phase this year, so I can coast a little. They sent me on an internet errand, so I had to play here a little. Next year I will be in charge of the meetings in Miami, Boston, San Diego and Cincinnati, so I better go back and pay attention for a little while.

Cincinnati!!! I'll organize a HHW gathering around your visit, DR Cillaliz.

I spent the latter half of the 70's, and all of the 80's and 90's in business suits.
But ah those 1970's bellbottom jeans... those I loved... back when I was a slim young thing with long blonde hair hanging down to my size 3 bottom, nothing was better than a pair of tight jeans with big bells so you could wear 5 inch heels and your legs looked like they went on forever...
these days , since the loss of my dear, lamented and sorely missed thyroid I am hoping for a resurrgence of this style:
-
I am going to Smart & Final to shop for bathroom fixtures (a Forever Plaid reference).
Still no word from "Charlie," who isn't answering his phone today and whose work is holding up our inspection.
-
I spent the latter half of the 70's, and all of the 80's and 90's in business suits.
So did I, DR vixmom, at least until 1985, when I transitioned to maternity clothes. After Rob was born, I was a stay-at-home mom for several years, so never went back to the John Molloy Dress for Success suits, button-down shirts, and little bow ties (which I still have - WHY?). I'm thankful that, by the time I reentered the workforce, business casual had been invented.
-
And one for Mahler.
-
DR Stuart, we seem to have much in common. Matching my socks to my outer outfits has always been part of my grooming.
And, yes, your explantion of shopping in the teen department is correct.
Although I did shop sometimes, years ago at Lord and Taylor's, but also now the style of clothing (at least in New York stores) carried in teen boy departments brings a new definition to the word ugly. I find the styles today hideous. I wouldn't wear them if I was dead and laid out in a closed casket. I would come back to haunt the person who dressed me that way. Do I make myself clear??? :D
-
I just saw the film cast of Rent at Bryant Park. They sang Seasons of Love and Take Me As I Am. Seasons of Love didn't quite have the oomph that the cast recording does...but then, it was only the principals and no ensemble.
It was great to see and hear Idina Menzel live singing Take Me As I Am. She and Tracie Thoms, the new Joanne did quite well. I am super excited for the movie.
As a side note, both Taye Diggs and Adam Pascal looked hot. Adam Pascal has lost some weight and looks fabulous.
-
Have written a first go at the jacket flap copy for Rewind. Next up, I have to proof the Stages/Together Again notes, which I now have mocked up in booklet format.
I also had a nice conversation with a set designer I used to know way back when. We're going to meet next week, but I think he's going to come on board and do the set for my new play. He's fantastic - an Emmy Award-winning set designer, who is finding it difficult to get work these days with all the rampant ageism that goes on shamelessly in show business.

Quite. :D
Oh, for the days of the late, lamented B. Altman's.
-
I've always tried to go against fashion trends as much as possible. Yes - I'm a rebel and I'll never-ever be any good. I'm basically a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy, or shorts and sweatshirt, I don't own a jacket as I find them very constraining, especially when trying to play, the very broad shoulders don't help! I prefer to purchase clothes at Target and K-mart and the occasional trip to Casual Male Big and Tall.
DP Eric is constantly on my back about being a "clothes horse" which I prefer to be called a "clothes whore". There just something about new clothes that I find exciting and I always like to have a plethora of things to choose from each day to wear.
-
I am so glad that I never was a "clothes horse" (or "whore" ;)). I never would've been able to find anything "trendy" in my size, anyway. Oh, well.
-
I shall now be on my way to the Hills of Beverly to pick up auction items and to lunch. I shall return shortly.
-
Lunch, there's a concept....

Y'know, Rit now makes a dye remover. That might help with your little problem.
;D
-
My intermittant internet did NOT post my post earlier today. Hmmm.
-
RENT - oh well. As Bill Sampson said: "You may not like it, you may not understand it. But that doesn't mean it isn't theatre to somebody, somewhere."
-
I HATE the dressing "down" at formal events. I liked the old fashioned dinner jacket OR tuxedo with a wing collar shirt and nice bow tie. A vest, sometimes....
I like button-down shirts and nice comfortable shoes.
-
Hopefully sooner or later - Mr BK will run into Mr Tony Walton!
-
Looks like there's a storm a'brewin', right outside my office window.
-
It's about to storm here as well DR DtM!
Looking forward to seeing the LIL ABNER scans when I get back from rehearsal.
DR HISAKA - I have never seen that LIL ABNER poster before!
-
The skies are looking a little grey and ominous here in the Big Apple, too. If it's gonna rain, it better be one heck of a downpour so it cools things down. None of this piddly sprinkles stuff - that just makes it more humid!
-
Hopefully sooner or later - Mr BK will run into Mr Tony Walton!
Why? Will something special happen? What did I miss?
-
Well, I'm back from Tams-Witmark, and I did indeed finish the trombone part. I will be fading soon; I'm quite tired. I also learned today that my beautiful young friend Naomi Aborn is playing Meryl Streep's daughter in the new movie PRIME. I'm so happy for her.
-
Our hearts were young and gay.
Mine still is DtM. The rest of me.....
-
Here's Naomi's picture! I forgot.
-
She's much bigger in real life!

Dr Elmore - are you editing the parts, fixing the parts, re-orchestrating, or restoring? Enquiring minds want to know

Dr Elmore - are you editing the parts, fixing the parts, re-orchestrating, or restoring? Enquiring minds want to know
About five years ago, I mentioned to Susanna Moross Tarjan, the composer's daughter that the last engraved vocal score she paid to have done had some errors. Early in 2003, she called me and asked me to edit a new one. I went through her father's ms piano-vocal, had it entered into computer, checked the lyrics against the published libretto and the recording, and went through the new score, perhaps too quickly, with the original conductor's score. Now that I'm finally correcting the orchestra parts at Tams-Witmark, I'm finding a million errors I let slip past me, so this venture next month will guarantee as much of a corrected piano-conductor score as possible without having erome Moross around to answer several big questions, like why the score they lease has a musical number in a different key from the band parts!
The orchestra parts leased by Tams-Witmark were made from the uncorrected Broadway parts, in some case, so I'm constantly checking each note against my new piano-conductor score and the original parts with correections - on file at Tams-Witmark. The librarian who prepared trhe materials in the mid-1950s had neither the penmanship nor the editorial skills of his replacement, Tams-Witmark's librarian emeritus Dale Kugel, whose work is a model for us all, so his recopied masters have his own errors. The show doesn't make enough income to warrant the cost of copying new band parts, so the new masters I'm providing will be correct as far as possible but often still lousy to read. I'm copying new pages, tidying what I can, but I'm primarily trying to reconcile everything.
In 1977, Moross wrote a new version of "My Love Is On the Way": same tune and harmony but with a 9/8 bar replacing the fourth 6/8 bar in a phrase, most likely to get rid of the dum-de-dum feeling and give Penelope an occasional breath. That and the original finale "We've Just Begun" are the only changes in the score. However, they were handed out as inserts, so they are finally in the new band parts where they belong. The Broadway ending "Going Home Together" was turned into the Curtain Call by Moross. We did find in the original Broadway parts Exit Music and Entr'Acte, and I've put them into the new vocal score as appendices.
This score is so fantastic. I'm living for the orchestra rehearsals just to hear how the whole score fits together. Each musical sequence seems to be composed along the lines of theme and variations.

Good Afternoon!
Back from rehearsal. Got a lot of stuff done today which was good. And after rehearsal we had a little "discussion" which was good too - and much needed.
Everyone keeps saying it's really hot here today, but I've been kind of comfortable all day. Yes, it's warm, but the humidity seems down from yesterday and there's been a slight breeze all day. Maybe I'm feeling cooler since I've been fasting today.
I've been drinking lots of water, and I just had some fruit juice. I'm about to head out with Tom and Curtis to make a grocery store run, and I may go ahead and break the fast tonight. Or not. But I feel fine.
I really felt like I needed to give my body a break today. My sweet tooth has kicked in big time in the past three days, and since the coffee shop next to the rehearsal hall has some very good pastries... And then there is the ice cream shop across the street (which had Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream last night - Sooooo good!). So... I have a feeling I've loaded and stored enough carbs for at least a day if not two.
-
Well, I'm off to the Stop 'n' Shop... Anyone need anything?
Laters...
-
DR Elmore - thanks for your explanation :)
-
No Charlie today. The inspector calls tomorrow.
-
I'm back, and to prove it, I'm here. I shall now photograph the Li'l Abner sketches.
I've done banking, picked up several excellent packages, and at least one of the big store invoice payments arrived today.
-
No Charlie today. The inspector calls tomorrow.
Very theatrical references Dear Reader Laura.
"Where's Charley"and "An Inspector Calls".

I saw the cast on the Today show today. I cannot wait for this movie!
I also thought Adam Pascal looked like he had lost some weight. I hate to think that what i saw had 15 tv lbs added on.

Any other Big Brother fans anxious to know what tonight's twist is. I know I am. Only 1 more hour!
Btw, DRs Ben and Stuart re: shopping in the teen section, I'm talking at department stores. Here they sell all kinds of stuff. I certainly wasn't suggesting that you buy teen outfits. But I'm sure they sell regular clothes in that department as well.
-
I am frustrated. I can get into my email but not my inbox. And I am waiting for an important email. But I cannot see if it is waiting for me. :(
Btw, I cannot believe TAR was here just this past Saturday. I wish I had been able to see the teams or help someone. I would be so good at that!
-
Any other Big Brother fans anxious to know what tonight's twist is. I know I am. Only 1 more hour!
I'm really excited to find out what the twist is and what we will be voting on. If it's good, I'm in. If it's crap, I'm writing an ugly e-mail to somebody.
This has been the LONGEST week...and watching the live feeds has been SO boring.
I sure hope the "outcasts" win HOH tonight (Howie or Janelle or Rachel only, though). The house needs some sparks.
-
In the mail today:
Title card to "El Cid"
One-sheet for "Hannah and Her Sisters," signed by 11 cast members, including Mia, Dianne, Michael, Barbara, Woody, and Max. No Maureen O'Sullivan or Lloyd Nolan, regrettably. But..it's my favorite Woody Allen film and getting this item with original signatures is nearly "nirvana."
-
Here is the sketch of one of the Dogpatch wives for the "society" party (the dress they also wear for Put 'Em Back The Way They Wuz) - this seems to have been designed for Dee Dee Wood, who recreated Michael Kidd's choreography for the film. She would then marry her dancing compatriot, Marc Breaux and together they would choreograph Mary Poppins and other stuff.
-
And here is the one, the only, Mammy Yokum design. My fave.
-
Well i finally got into my inbox and the email i was waiting for had been sitting there for 3 hours. Not happy!
Btw re: BB6, i wonder if the vote will only be for a short while (like 2 hours) like they do on American Idol.
-
Good Evening!
Back from the Stop'n'Shop. At first, there was nothing I really wanted to buy, but after wandering the aisles, I ended up with four bags worth of stuff. Of course, as soon as I got back to the room, I realized that there were two things I forgot... Ah, well...
-
And now I think I'm gonna catch up on some reading...
Laters...
-
Great costume plates, BK. I love the colors. Just the two of them?
-
Yes, the two sketches, which are now at the framers, along with an original Modesty Blaise strip from 1964 by Jim Holdaway - from one of the first Blaise newspaper strips.
-
Those are pretty cool sketches, BK! Congrats on getting them!
-
Thank you Bk. My Cd's arrived today.
-
Cincinnati!!! I'll organize a HHW gathering around your visit, DR Cillaliz.
It won't be until Spring 2008, so don't start planning yet!
-
Btw re: BB6, i wonder if the vote will only be for a short while (like 2 hours) like they do on American Idol.
I hope not, I have a reception at the Chinese Garden and dinner out with friends. If it's good I want to vote, but I won't know what it is until I get back

What record label is running scared? Only weeks after the launch of Bruce Kimmel's new record label and website; the record label has redesigned their amateurishly designed website so that it looks more professional. Despite the new makeover a backsteet cat is still a backstreet cat.
-
Even I must admit that the timing was most amusing. I predicted just such an occurrance to several friends the day we went live.
-
So much for the blind item! :)
-
Well the twist has been revealed.
I won't say what it is for those on the West Coast.
But to vote you can go to cbs.com to vote (it's not opening for me, i guess a lot of people are voting).
I am not sure how long the voting is open. That is why I logged on (it got cut off on tv).
-
Re: big brother 6.
here is the link for voting:

(i think you have to click on #1).
but it is only good after 9pm pacific time. :(
-
My, what entertaining posts today! As Ann will confirm, I'm thoroughly oblivious to fashion, counting on her to keep me from looking too ridiculous.
-
And "Charley's Aunt," in which our DRJed is starring!
Along with DR TCB! He may not be playing my father, but we will be sharing the stage again in this production.
-
Good news DR Jed. I knew the TV star credits would eventually land him a role.
-
Just glad that a renowned MTV actor will still consent to appear in community theatre.
-

And it looks like the bonus tracks that were offered when one purchased directly from the site are no longer offered. At least, a couple of CDs that I looked up didn't show them in the track listings. :-\
-
Just glad that a renowned MTV actor will still consent to appear in community theatre.
I suspect he will waive his fee as an act of charity. I hope he still remembers those who were kind when he was on the lower rungs.
-
The Twist has been revealed? How about the Boogaloo?
-
BK, have you got the new Guy Haines album to your pal Gary Owens and to radio 1260 yet? If not, for shame!
-
CD is on its way to Mr. Owens.
-
Should I be scared, very scared, that someone from the Islamic Republic of Iran is repeatedly accessing my FF web article? :o
Mini-HHW get-together tomorrow chez nous. Maybe we'll post pics.

Yes, and apparently an open voting free-for-all through next Wednesday.
I'll have to vote diligently several times a day, I guess.
I'm glad to see that there seems to be some "healing" going on in that house. Everyone was well-behaved when the evicted houseguest left. I think most everyone in the house has respect for that person.
It was good to see someone new win HOH, too.
-
Yes, a very good BB6 tonight! And I am pleased with the new HOH...I think it will be quite entertaining!
And am also happy that the remaining houseguests were so nice to the ousted one...just as it should be....and I am very sorry to see that person go.
-
Hmmm, bad fashion....those polyester shirts in the 70s with the big collars....and anything now that makes one look like a gangsta rapper...you could swim around inside some of the pants those guys wear?
For myself I usually tend to go with a classic look...the flant front khakis...and I really love shirts that have a 50s vintage design, color, and/or style...some trendy stuff I like, some I don't...just depends on how it looks when I wear it.
People in Portland can get away with dressing very trendy and chic, but it just doesn't fit in with Salem, which is much more conservative.
-
DR Hisaka, I just now saw the Godzilla pictures that you posted (I am still trying to catch up on posts that I missed while in Burbank) and I loved them! Godzilla was such a big part of my life as a kid...never missed a Godzilla movie when it played on TV, and of course now I have most of them on DVD!!
I am looking forward to seeing GODZILLA: FINAL WARS when it plays here!!
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com? We just had two incredible day of postings, and now we have a slow news day here at haineshisway.com. Most unseemly.
-
Let me get this straight - no posts in over an hour and I'm the only living boy on haineshisway.com. This will NOT do, oh, no, this will NOT do.
-
Right now, I'm watching the show "Starved" with Tony Award® nominee Laura Benanti. She plays a bisexual anorexic and she and her friends all have different eating disorders. Except for the ending which takes a bit of a serious turn (nothing overly dramatic), it's pretty funny.
-
Has Ann caught up? Or is she just sitting there like so much fish?
-
I guarantee you, you will be humming tomorrow's notes.
-
It's the ATTACK OF THE WUSSBURGERS!
-
The show right after it is "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." This show, like "Starved," has three men and one woman as the main characters, but this show is about four people who work in the bar that they own and their trials and tribulations. It also is very funny...to me, at least. And like the show "Lucky" (with John Corbett, if anyone saw that), it's on FX and they don't bleep out the swear words! They say sh*t and talk about sex and all that good stuff.
-
My housemate's cat has discovered the quiet comfort of sleeping in my washing machine! AARRGGHH!! I have a front loading washer and keep the door open so that after I use it, it'll dry out and not smell...it's the theory, anyway...my sister told me to do this. So, I'm going to have to make sure that I check for the cat whenever I do laundry anymore. :P
