Well, you've read the notes, you've read the convoluted questions, you're feeling convoluted, and now it is time for you to post until the convoluted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOMNAMBULISTIC!
-
TOTD: Almost impossible . Three wonderful singers.
A song from each:
RC - Where Will The Dimple Be?"
PL - Johnny Guitar
EF - Swinging Shepherd Blues
-
Word of the day"
Santo & Johnny Farina were somnambulistic brothers.
-
And the word of the day is: SOMNAMBULISTIC!
Good Morning!
I'm up! I'm up! Well... I'm still up! Which could almost make me SOMNAMBULISTIC. ;)
-Is it really spelled that way? I guess I'm so used to the Donizetti LA SONNAMBULA....
In any case... I just got back from The ZOO 3 - The final Zoo of the 2005 WTF season...
And I'm actually kind of wired right now... And a little bit hungry...
Hmm...
What to do... What to do?
OH!, I know! I shall catch up on the Posts and Notes, and then Post some more!
Yeah, that's the ticket!
-
DR Jason - Are you really still up right now? Or just still logged in? Or is "Berniece" logging in under your screenname?
;)
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Hey, Dino! It's my turn to practice!!!!
-
Good Morning! once again.
I'm all caught up on the posts and notes. And what a lovely number of posts to catch up on! Quite the veritable frenzy last night while I was at the shows.
Bus Stop was very good. This was my first time seeing the play - and I don't think I've actually seen the whole movie in one sitting. Great performances across the board, however, Elizabeth Marvel, Daniel Oreskes and Bill Camp really made the show for me. They portrayed Grace, Will Masters (the sheriff) and Dr. Gerald Lyman. Those characters just seem so, well, older and interesting than Cherie and Bo. Mr. Oreskes brief monologue about his youthful indiscretion was particularly moving.
The only thing I did question was the use of "new" songs by composer, Michael Friedman. It's been a while since I've read the script, and I can't recall if Cherie's number is something scripted or "optional". However, since the show was presented without intermission, the brief songs between the acts were in the spirit of the show, and were ably performed by "The Stanton Family Band" who were placed audience right in the first balcony.
But, again, I did enjoy the show very much, and it was nice seeing a Bo and Cherie who actually look 21 and 19 (Logan Marshall-Green and Elizabeth Banks). -I shudder to think of the production a few years ago with one of the former Mrs. Rod Stewarts.
-
...And there was this man who walking through the lobby before the show who just looked really familiar. However, I noticed that he had a press packet in his hand, and then we he turned to talk to someone and made face... Ah! Ben Brantley!
;)
-
And as soon as the curtain came down on Bus Stop, it was just sort of sad to think that the only possible way this play would receive a major, Broadway production nowadays would be if stunt/star casting was involved. It truly is just a slice-of-life play, filled with ordinary - but extraordinary - folks.
Am I wrong in thinking this?
-
Then it was time for Performance #2 of Triangle.
What a difference a couple of hours makes! We went up at 11:00 tonight. And the Act One company had already performed I Have Loved Strangers at 8:30. And this was the first time that we had done the shows in this order in one evening. And that included the changeover of the set and lights.
It was a good show, but, speaking for myself, I felt a little tired. However, we had a wonderful audience - very responsive - and they helped to keep us all afloat. I mean, I could just feel my blood sugar level drop right after I played the first chord. However, once we got into the homestretch, I could sense that all of us were back on track.
Again, it was a very good show, and the one thing that the tiredness did for all of us was that it made us take our time, made us make sure to communicate, to share. And now that I think of it, I guess what was most surprising to me tonight was just how "calm" we all were. Which, in retrospect, was a good thing. We weren't running on adrenaline - and anxiety.
It truly will be sad to say goodbye to this show and this company tomorrow night. To quote Baby: What a journey. What a ride!
-
OH!!!!
And not only did the casting director from Arena Stage happen to come up today to see the show, but I had two semi-surprise guests: DRs Rodzinski and TPunk! *Which is why they've been E&T today - and most likely until Sunday night.
They just wanted to get out the city for the weekend, and Williamstown and the Berkshires seemed like a good place to get away to. So they rented a car, and headed up the Taconic Parkway. It truly was very nice having them in the audience tonight. And I believe they enjoyed the show too.
We'll be meeting a Noon tomorrow/today, and head somewhere for brunch/lunch and maybe some sightseeing. They may or may not catch a matinee too. We shall see.
-
OH!!!
And DRs Rodzinski and TPunk also joined me at The Zoo 3 for a few hours. Good times were had by all.
However, the mantra up here is: What happens at The Zoo, stays at The Zoo.
;D
-
And in a very coincidental case of "small worldness", it turns out that Antonia - a.k.a. DR TPunk - had hired our assistant director when he was one of the interns at Disney Theatrical. So we had a little mini-reunion amidst the loud music and free beer.
:)
-
And I believe I know two of the answers to the multi-answer Trivia Question, but I could be wrong.
And as for Today's Topic...
Rosemary Clooney - Many favorites, but I'd have to narrow it down to "White Christmas" and a live concert recording from ?? of "The Man I Love".
Peggy Lee - "He's A Tramp"
Ella Fitzgerald - Again, almost impossible, but... And since I just loaded the Complete Song Books into my iTunes... "This Time the Dream's On Me"... and a live recording from her later years of Ellington's "Imagine My Frustration" - she really "rocks" on that one.
-
Well, I best get some shut-eye if I'm to meet DRs Rodzinski and TPunk in a few hours...
Goodnight.
-
Goodnight DR Jose. Hello to TPunk & Rodzinski.
-
Good morning. Happy Saturday DR Elmore.
-
Good morning, all! Especially to you, my beloved Tomovoz! My, all that talk of unrequited love on HHW laqst night certainly stirred up too many pleasant and painful memories for me. Oy! However, our DRJason seems to be suffering a bit from it, and I sympathize entirely.
Today: Warlow and Hobson on the CD! I'm quite excited about it. I don't believe I've ever heard Mr Warlow sing (don't fall down, DRTomovoz!). After screwing up a bunch of band parts yesterday, I have to redo those today and move forward with the job, and I may hit the NYPL Theatre Collection to learn about Victor Herbert's THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER from 1912.
TOD:
Peggy Lee: "Fever," "Lover," "Is That All There Is?," and I've always loved her Lieber-Stoller album "Mirrors."
Rosemary Clooney: my first memory, "Egbert the Easter Egg" and "Suzy Snowflake." Now that my tastes are less sophisticated, "This Ol' House," "Mambo Italiano."
Ella Fitzgerald: She does no wrong! EVERYTHING, especially the Gershwin songbook.
-
Don't let François know DR ELmore.
-
Usually I list "Pieces Of Dreams" as my favourite of Peggy Lee. I have always enjoyed her Coleman songs too. I never tire of the Ella Songbooks and Rosemary's non novelty numbers are beautiful.
Three singers who truly made songs their own.
The only singer I put with them as an interpreter of songs is Dusty Springfield.
-
Don't let François know DR ELmore.
Don't let him know what?
-
OH!!!
And DRs Rodzinski and TPunk also joined me at The Zoo 3 for a few hours. Good times were had by all.
However, the mantra up here is: What happens at The Zoo, stays at The Zoo.
;D
One truly shudders to think....
;D
-
Given the time, PDT, I'm in a rather somnambulistic funk, thanks to my allergies.
I woke up about 30 minutes ago mouth-breathing. So, I've been doing the things I must do to get the "juices" flowing so my sinus passages start functioning normally again.
For the past two days, music from the movie "Some Like it Hot" -- the jazzy, trumpety stuff -- has been running through my head. Haven't watched the film in more than a year, so maybe it's time....
-
How quiet...how quiet the chamber is.
How silent...how silent the chamber is....
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see....what I see????
-
Don't let him know what?
That berets are out and snoods are in, of course!
:D
-
How quiet...how quiet the chamber is.
How silent...how silent the chamber is....
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see....what I see????
I see fireworks. I see the pagent and pomp and parade,
I hear the bells ringing out..
-
HI all,
Didn't expect to be able to post from the lake, but my parents' neighbors apparently have wireless.....so here I am
-
BB6 viewers. Please tell me what happens tonight. I have to go to a couples wedding shower for my nephew and won't be able to watch. I'm bummed the feeds are down until after it airs, but that actually makes some sense.
-
"Big Brother 6" Spoilage:
It appears that one bit of news has leaked out of the BB house...and it's that Jennifer was evicted.
I knew the disciples would pick Maggie over Jenn.
-
And here's a show tune reference for DR Elmore3003:
"This can't be love because I feel so well!
"No sobs, no sorrows, no sighs!"
-
DR Jason: Take heart. The theme from "The Golden Girls" also has the line:
"And if you threw a party...invited everyone you knew...you would see the biggest gift would be from me...and the card attached would say, 'Thank you for bein' a friend.'"
-
TOD:
Rosemary Clooney:
Hey There
Come on a My House
Peggy Lee:
Why Don’t you Do Right
Ella Fitzgerald:
Too Marvelous for Words
-
GOod morning. I awoke to another sweltering morning with highs today predicted in the mid-90s. Another good day to stay inside and drink soda and lemonade.
-
Peggy Lee:
I loved the songs she sang in PETE KELLY'S BLUES, especially "Sugar, Sugar."
Of course, "Fever," "Lover," "It's a Good Day," and "He's a Tramp."
-
For Rosie:
"Hey, There," "Where Will the Dimple Be?" (my dad's favorite), "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me," Come On'a My House."
-
And isn't it ironic that when Decca put out the "cast album" for the movie WHITE CHRISTMAS, since Rosemary Clooney was under contract to Columbia Records, her songs were sung by Peggy Lee. I'm not sure any of the selections on the WHITE CHRISTMAS LP were from the soundtrack. I think they were all re-recorded for the album.
I haven't listened to it in years.
-
Not a big Ella fan though I admit her great talent and legendary career.
"A Tisket, a Tasket."
-
I'm thinking I'll put ALEXANDER on tonight and probably watch FOLLOW THE FLEET in the early afternoon while I'm cooking and eating my lunch.
-
"I'm very lonely, Abagail."
-
Good Morning!
I'm up! I'm up!
-Well, at least I'm outta bed... And now I have to get ready to meet DRs TPunk and Rodzinksi in a few. It's a bit overcast right now, but I'm not exactly sure if that will have any bearing on what we'll be doing this afternoon...
Umm...
OK...
-Yes, I'm still waking up...
The Zoo... The Zoo!
-
;D
Well...
Laters...
*And something tells me, ice cream will be partook of this afternoon. :)
-
Reading about DR Jason's infatuation brings back such wonderful memories. And DR George's comments last night about the fun of falling for someone are completely true.
I keep looking, but it hasn't happened to me in a quite a while. [sigh]
-
Oh, well, John Schlesinger is calling, so I think I'll rejoin him now prepping MIDNIGHT COWBOY and getting ready to deal with the international reaction to FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD.
-
BTW, I wonder why FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD hasn't had a DVD release yet?
-
Good morning all!
DR Jose, if you all are going to the zoo, please, please, please take many, many, many pictures!
Is it the one in Central Park? I AM going to see it when I get there in October. Well, at least I hope I do.
-
Guess what I watched last night?
The first half of "What If", thanks to DR Jane!
I really, honestly enjoyed it. Can't wait to watch the 2nd half tonight.
My Mother thought the songs were clever. She doesn't quite understand when I tell her that Bruce wrote them and I can "talk" to him here on the board.
She knows I'm going to NY and she's thrilled that I'm going to meet some nice people but she doesn't understand how I met you all. :)
-
Here are my choices for the Topic of the Day:
Peggy Lee: "Fever," "Is That All There Is?"
Rosemary Clooney: "Hey, There"
Ella Fitzgerald: "A Tisket, a Tasket," "How High the Moon," "Mack the Knife" (especially from her "Ella In Berlin" recording!) ;D
-
Well, I have the exciting task of going to look a new lawn mower today.
I swear that by using the electric mower I really do at least three times the lawn. I have to pull the cord all over the place and go back around places so I don't get wrapped up, etc.
I really don't want a mower that you have to pull to start--I've had those and they are so hard to get going.
Home Depot's website had one that might be perfect for my needs. A Toro 22 inch Electric Start Self Propelled mower so I think I'm going to give it a look/see.
Anyway, wish me luck!
-
Thanks for the picture of the Japanese Gaston & Belle, DRGEORGE!
Why yes, DRFRANCOIS - I am familiar with Jerome Robbins - and particularly the extent of what I think is Miss Betty Garrett's "talent." Liked her best in the movie version of MY SISTER EILEEN - funny, and natural. Maybe she just didn't get a part that fit her, or I haven't seen it.
-
Hmmmmm....thanks for the RED GARTERS report, MR BK. (And hopefully you received my email, re: address). I agree that the songs are the best part of the movie. And I am not certain that that horse was supposed to fall down and slide on his haunches through that one scene.....Daley's facial expression is priceless. Clooney's vocal on "Goodbye, Jane. Goodbye, Joe" is so beautiful. And the title number is a LOT of fun. Gene Barry and Joanne Gilbert make a good pair as well.
TOD: hmmmmm. Will have to think.
Love MOST all of Clooney. The other two I don't know many songs by....just the usual suspects, I guess. They are fine, but their styles are not what I usually like to listen to.
I will just say that Clooney's "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" in WHITE CHRISTMAS is a highlight for me.
-
Good luck with the lawn mower, DRDANISE....sounds like just the one you need. We have a Toro self-starting mower and it's great!
-
I will just say that Clooney's "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" in WHITE CHRISTMAS is a highlight for me.
Me too!
-
Good luck with the lawn mower, DRDANISE....sounds like just the one you need. We have a Toro self-starting mower and it's great!
Is the speed easy to set, DR JRand? I've never had a self Propelled mower and I'm a bit worried I won't be able to hold it back. Can you just picture me being dragged acrossed the lawn! LOL! ;D
-
I'm up, I'm up. Unlike the last few days, very sunny out right now.
So far only one guess in our treacherous trivia contest, but it's a correct one.
-
We're at 89 degrees F with a heat index of 98. Hot, hot, hot!
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Here in Olympia it's 60° F and overcast. It's supposed to get up to a high of 79° F and be mostly sunny.
-
May I ask a question: Has the Internet turned a generation into the biggest bunch of grammar and spelling-challenged people in history? I was perusing, oh, yes, I was perusing, and this is the thread title I came upon: The Fools At Paramount Loose More Money. I ask you. And it's not just in that thread - "loose" for "lose" has become the most misused (and ridiculously so) word of the last decade. Do they not teach these things in school anymore? Or do the majority of students just sit there, too lazy to pay attention to even the most rudimentary uses of words? I think we know the answer, in this era of generational laziness and feeling of entitlement. Not everyone, I know, but certainly, at least to these eyes, the majority.
-
Was I ranting? Part of the problem, as I see it, is the fact that all these "me" generation youngsters are now parents, and by gum and by golly and buy bonds if they aren't instilling in their children those values but magnified 1000 fold.
-
See what ranting gets you? Page three, that's what ranting gets you. Well, I'm not going to loose any sleep over it.
-
May I ask a question: Has the Internet turned a generation into the biggest bunch of grammar and spelling-challenged people in history?
In a word: yes. :P <raspberries> to them all!
-
Loosing sleep is not worth it! Just remember its not just grammer and speling that have suferred.
I haven't started on the Trivia Question....yet! Whew!
DRJOSE thanks for the BUS STOP report, and I think you are right about casting. I remember many years ago, before DRJOEY was born, that Miss Jayne Mansfield was on the Jack Paar show talking about doing a production of the play....and Mr Paar reminded her that there was NO "T" in the first word of the title....which is how she pronounced it!
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
My friend Margo is going to Hawaii tomorrow morning with her three kids (I'm driving them to the airport...I have to be at her house at 6:30 a.m.!). She doesn't have a computer at her home, so I went on-line and made her seat selections and printed her on-line boarding passes. Pretty slick. ;) Because of her frequent flyer miles that she's gotten with her credit cards (she even pays her mortgage with it!) she was able to buy FOUR round-trip tickets to Hawaii for a grand total of $85! TOTAL! Now that's amazing. ;D
-
Well, I must now depart for a time. I have to take a shower and then do some errands. And I have a package waiting for me at the post office, so I must pick that up! Have a good day, everyone!
-
GOod morning. I awoke to another sweltering morning with highs today predicted in the mid-90s. Another good day to stay inside and drink soda and lemonade.
Oof-tah!
Here in Oakland, it might nearly almost get up to F 69 degrees today!
-

I know that thread. Have you seen the one about "What is the most awesome combination of..."
One of your favorite people joins in at the third post...and takes it upon himself to pass critical commentary upon each entry...AND makes a fuss about "awesome" being misused. I'm ready to bitch-slap him/her/it (I mean, really, is there a "Mrs. Boo" and if there is, is this person a beard or an even more effeminate man than Mr. Boo?).
Gosh! I feel ever so much better just saying that!
-
DR DANISE the speed control is easy to set....you are ALWAYS in control....and like putting your car in neutral....but the salesman will demonstrate it for you.
-
DR DANISE you can find consumer ratings on products at www.epinions.com by just typing in the Mower and Model number. Real people writing about their experiences with products.
See if your model is there. The self propel feature is controlled by you and isn't in operation when your hands aren't on the mower.
-
89 degrees and thunder here. Thunderstorm warning until 6 pm.
Off to sell tickets for PIPPIN's closing night!
-
Nobody here but us chickens.
-
I listened to New Guy in Town as I drove past the fields of corn on the way to the lake yesterday. It was most enjoyable
-
Don't let him know what?
That you've never heard Anthony Warlow sing before!
WHAT??????
YOU'VE NEVER HEARD HIM BEFORE???
YOU'VE NEVER HEARD HIM....
YOU'VE NEVER....
oooooooohhhhhhhhhh! :o
-
Not a big Ella fan though I admit her great talent and legendary career.
"A Tisket, a Tasket."
Oh, NO!, Matt!
You can do better than that! Yes, you can! ;)
-
Why yes, DRFRANCOIS - I am familiar with Jerome Robbins - and particularly the extent of what I think is Miss Betty Garrett's "talent." Liked her best in the movie version of MY SISTER EILEEN - funny, and natural. Maybe she just didn't get a part that fit her, or I haven't seen it.
No! My mentioning Jerome Robbins was in regard of the "blacklisting" you were referring to when talking about Betty Garrett not getting work (because of her political orientations) which was due -- your words -- to her lack of talent, rather than anything else she could alledge!
You know.... the House Committee on Un-American Activities....
To pretend that she did not get work in the US for so many years because she was talentless (Oh, she was no bathing beauty for sure either!) and NOT because of a certain blacklist is a little... crass in my book!
Not that, at this place and age, Miss Garrett needs "defending" from me at all! :)
-
I love Is That All There Is, Fever (one of the great recordings of all time), Pass Me By, The Best Is Yet To Come.
I love all of Ella, but am especially fond of The Jerome Kern Songbook.
-
Fav Rosemary Clooney: Blame It On My Youth
Fav Peggy Lee: I Wish I Didn't Love You So
Fave Ella Fitzgerald: Cole Porter's I Am In Love
-
I love Hey There, White Christmas
-
All of a sudden my iTunes isn't buring CD's. I thought it was my burner, but I burned a CD off of Windows Media Player and it was fine. It keeps saying something about the burn speed all of a sudden, so I lowered the speed, we'll see if that works. That means, though that the process takes longer!
I love Ella's Rodgers and Hart disks as well as one of the Cole Porter discs, I'll have to check out the Kern collection as I'm not a big fan of Kern, but I do like Ella's interpreations. As for Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney, as I know they exist, I'm not familiar with much of their work.
-
And here's a show tune reference for DR Elmore3003:
"This can't be love because I feel so well!
"No sobs, no sorrows, no sighs!"
I prefer the reprise:
This must be love for I don't feel so well,
But I was only sympathizing with DRJason! To quote PAJANA GAME, I'm not at all in love!
-
ENjoyed FOLLOW THE FLEET this afternoon, but the film was in far worse shape than TOP HAT. Lots of little scratches and debris on the transfer.
-

You're not a fan of Jerome Kern and you get wet over Sir Andrew Lloyd webber? Oh, DRMatthew, I weep for you! Raise your eyes to the heavens and learn what harmony and composition and some intelligence can mean to humanity and the notes of the scale!
-

No doubt youve been spending far too much time watching Allison Hayes' classic repertoire of films.
Count me in as a Betty Garrett fan!!
:D
-
I was really surprised on the documentary to FOLLOW THE FLEET that it wasn't mentioned at all that Lucille Ball and Betty Grable make early film appearances in this movie. I would think that would be at least worthy of mention.
-
I love Hey There, White Christmas
Hummm...NEVER heard that song!
Is it new??? ;)
-

One of your finest moments, DR elmore3003!
-
Ah... Jerome Kern!!
And then, Anthony Warlow singing Jerome Kern!!
I'm dead and have gone to heaven!
(Heaven! I'm in heaven!...)
-
I read that Betty Garrett was the first person contacted to replace Judy Garland in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN when Judy was fired from the picture. Seemingly, her agent asked for too much money. (Her MGM contract must have expired.)
I think she would have been excellent in the role.
-
Ah... Jerome Kern!!
And then, Anthony Warlow singing Jerome Kern!!
I'm dead and have gone to heaven!
(Heaven! I'm in heaven!...)
I thought that was Irving Berlin! ;D
-
Watching FOLLOW THE FLEET, I was surprised at how much taller Randolph Scott is than Fred Astaire. Ginger in heels is right about the same height as Fred, so she must have been a very tiny lady.
-
Drat. Another new page dance needed, and I'm once again on my downstairs computer away from a scanner.
That's three page dances I owe the forum! Argh!
-
One of your finest moments, DR elmore3003!
Thank you, DRRon Pulliam! I, too, am a Betty Garrett fan, but I'm fond of Betty Hutton, who Christopher Isherwood said would be a nymphomaniac if they could slow her down, as well.
Does anyone know about a British concept album of WUTHERING HEIGHTS with Lesley Garrett and Dave Willets? The two of them do a delightful duet "You Were My First Love" from it, and I wonder if the rest of the score is as good? I listened to Miss Garrett and the Anthony Warlow-David hobson duets albums this morning in the office.
-
Betty is a lovely person (Garrett - don't know Hutton). My favorite film of hers is On The Town, but I don't think the camera cared for her.
-
I finally finished the short story. Whew! Now, I shall figure out the next one and write it, and hopefully and I will not take so many days off from writing this time.
-

Yes, this is a good score overall! And Mr Dave Willets is a fine singer. I've posted how I like Miss Garrett here before... Betty AND Lesley! :D I believe Claire Moore (I don't know... I tend to have a fondness for Moores!!) has also cut some songs from that show!.....
SO..... what do YOU think of the Warlow/Hobson cd then????
-
SInce I had so many visitors yesterday, I didn't get to my kitchen cleaning, so off to do that now. Then, ALEXANDER on DVD. It's going to be a LONG night.
-
SO..... what do YOU think of the Warlow/Hobson cd then????
I enjoyed it, although I think David Hobson's voice is showing signs of wear. Some of the duets are quite wonderful, and "Roses of Picardy" isd one of my favorite Edwardian songs. "Give Me A Ticket to Heaven" is a hoot, one of those songs Bock and Harnick make fun of in "Artificial Flowers." I think DRMBarnum would like Mr Warlow's voice.
-
Just for you, Larry! -- Hush, don't tell anyone else!
Wuthering Heights
Based on Emily Brontë’s novel. Concept recording
stars Lesley Garrett as Cathy and Dave Willetts as Heathcliff, with CliveCarter, Bonnie Langford and Sharon Campbell. Arrangements and orchestration, Nic Raine. ©1990 Bernard J. Taylor. 17 tracks. 60 minutes.
"Bernard J. Taylor's big, sweepingly romantic score sustains a feeling of dark passion entirely appropriate for an adaptation of Emily Bronte's novel concerning the ill-fated love between Cathy and Heathcliff." - Show Music Magazine, USA, Summer, 1992.
"This is what stage music should be - passionate, powerful, melodic . . . If you buy only one album this year, make it this one - Mike Gibb, Masquerade Magazine.
"Every number, whether vocal or instrumental, packs the kind of emotional punch that musical performers and audiences cry out for." - Sarah Hopkins, Beneath the Mask, Summer 1994 issue.
"Something to shiver about!" - House & Garden (British edition), March 1992.

Am I betraying a certain lack of class and dignity when I admit that when I quickly glanced and saw the reference above to Miss Garrett, I thought of Charlotte Rae and THE FACTS OF LIFE.
But I really enjoyed the MY SISTER EILEEN movie, and the rendition of "As Soon As They See Eileen" (if that's the right title) remains one of my favorite introductory songs. I mean, I love WONDERFUL TOWN, but the jealousy of Eileen in Betty Garrett's rendition of that song colored the rest of the MY SISTER EILEEN film dramatically for me. I understood the character's plight better than I had in WONDERFUL TOWN, and I think it's because of Garrett and her performance of that song. And I was in some sort of TV-watching heaven when she and Vincent Gardenia started appearing as regulars on ALL IN THE FAMILY.

You're most welcome DR Larry!

Can you believe the lady still goes on the stage at 86????

Was I ranting? Part of the problem, as I see it, is the fact that all these "me" generation youngsters are now parents, and by gum and by golly and buy bonds if they aren't instilling in their children those values but magnified 1000 fold.
BK, I hate to see you loose your cool!

Good Afternoon!
Lunch at the Water Street Grill. Shopping up and down Spring Street. Ice cream at Lickety Split: Twinkies, Purple Cow (blackberry ice cream with white and dark chocolate chips), and Cake Batter with Fudge Swirl. *We all got "combo" cups of ice cream... then got another small cup of the cake batter to share. Picked up tickets for tonight's performance of Bus Stop - DRs Rodzinksi and Antonia, that is. Stopped in at Toonerville Trolley Records - a new and used record shop. -Alas, no purchases among the three off. More shopping at "Where Did You Get That?".
-I think that covers most of today's activities, although not necessarily in that order.
I was then dropped at The Clark - where I took a bunch of pictures of some of the works in their permanent collection (without flash as required), and Tom and Antonia headed out on their own to check out the surrounding area - since they only "saw" it in the dark last night. And the the sun has decided to make a late day appearance and the sky is clearing up too.
:)
And now I'm going to lie down for a bit, just to rest... and then it's off to Goodrich for the final performance of Triangle...
Laters...

"Wuthering Heights"
IMHO the only thing that makes this sound in any way interesting is listening to "Heathcliff" before it.. It is truly one of the dullest pieces of theatre I have listened to on disc.
-
Don't let him know what?
You know not Warlow!
-
Last Saturday Act I of Charley's Aunt ran approximately 1:40 (very rough stumble-through). Today it ran 1:23. I'd say we're making progress.
TOD
Clooney: From This Moment On, Hey There, Blame It On My Youth, One for My Baby
Lee: not as familiar, but I do enjoy her Fever
Fitzgerald: Miss Otis Regrets, Airmail Special, Angel Eyes, You'll Have to Swing It (Mr. Paganini), Too Darn Hot
-
You know not Warlow!
The problems of posting so many hours after the event! Thank you François.
-
I like Bernard Herrmann's Wuthering Heights.
I have Bernard Taylor's Wuthering Heights, which Mr. Taylor sent me years ago along with several other musicals of his. I should get them down and listen again.
-
Sad when you quote yourself instead of modifying a post. I'm just awake. Good morning everyone.
-
I just don't know if I want to sit through Gypsy, the movie, again. It IS 35mm and Technicolor, though, so maybe I will, if I can find the energy. I've just been lying on my couch like so much fish, watching DVDs. Sometimes I tell the truth on my couch like so much fish, watching DVDs.
-
I had two ears of corn, and two arms of English Muffins.
-
And I have a hankerin' for birthday cake. Since Von's sells birthday cake by the slice, I may just have to toddle on over there in a few minutes.

You don't know Eurotrash "Musicals" then! ;D

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers. This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
-
Ooops! That's one of THEM, I guess!
-
And this:
-
I had two ears of corn, and two arms of English Muffins.
I'm glad you got rid of them because they made you look... odd! :D
-
The ocotillos enjoyed the recent desert rains:
-
The turkey vultures were watching us from the top of the mountain.
-
Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers. This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
Wuthering Heights??
-
New Page!
Dance of the Cacti!
-
The turkey vultures were watching us from the top of the mountain.
Of course!
You were watching them from down below! :D
-
AND Jane appeared... to play the piano?
-
Followed by Elmore on the triangle!
-
Oops! Jane's left... pianissimo!
-
... and the band played on!
-
Name of the Band!
The Vultures!
Like the ones looking at Laura from the top of the mountain!
-
Then Jane reappears!
"She appears!"
Oh... a Gypsy reference!
-
Jane has an ear for music, and an ear of corn she borrowed from BK!
-
... and the 4 of us make the One and Only Original HHW Family Band!
-
FJL joins in playing the piccolo!

Then Jane reappears!
"She appears!"
Oh... a Gypsy reference!
Guess I had better stop lurking and say hello. ;D

I just had the most wonderful experience on my way to the market. When DRJoey left, he left behind two bags of airline pretzels. I told him I'd feed the birds with them. I crushed them in the bags and took them outside about 30 minutes ago. I opened the bags and scattered the pretzels and some crushed dried bread I'd been saving over the street in front of the apartment. Suddenly, dozens of pigeons, perhaps a few doves, and some tiny sparrows flew in and landed at my feet; there was a carpet of birds gathering food in front of me. It was quite beautiful watching them light, fly up and land again; the pigeons were grey, brown, white, and huge next to the little sparrows. Then, the whole flock flew into the air and down 82nd Street toward Amsterdam. A few minutes later they flew back and resumed feeding. Then a few flew up to the church towers and some onto the fire escape in front of my building. I'd never seen such a show in 25 years of living here.
-
Speaking of the fire escape, I hope the birds are gone by the time I have to put up DRMBarnum there.
-
Danise did you have good luck finding just the right mower?
DRLaura thank you for the beautiful photos.
-
Hi all! I am now the proud owner of the very model of Toro mower I went to look at.
I made the sales guy laugh when he asked me what kind of grass I have. I told him, "Green". I have no idea what type of grass it is, I just want to cut it!
I can't use it this weekend because it takes at least 24 hours to charge the starter and I didn't get it out of the Bonnie until after five. I had a bit of problem lifting it down. It took two men to put in but there's only me to take it out. I got it.
-
Speaking of the fire escape, I hope the birds are gone by the time I have to put up DRMBarnum there.
;D Jose don't believe him this time. :)
It’s a shame someone couldn’t photograph you and the birds.
-
I can't play the piccolo. Can I have the triangle?
-
Danise you are amazing. I hope the new mower makes your life easier.
-
We were just at the 79th Street Boat Basin cafe, and this whole mess of birds came swooping down looking for food. I guess it's like the Hitchcock movie, only they're only following HHW members.
Or else the birds are attacking DR Elmore and us for not being able to make it to Curtis and Tom's (and Jose's) show.
-
And Jose's (and Curtis and Tom's) show is called TRIANGLE. Everything's adding up somehow.
-

I was thinking the same thing!
-

Ask Larry!
-
Someday maybe I can get a picture of the Blue Jays that come and
"steal" the dogs food.
I just bought a squirrel feeder and hope they will come and get some peanuts when I put it up tomorrow.
-
Danise you are amazing. I hope the new mower makes your life easier.
Thanks, Jane. I am hoping so as well. :)

I have that recording of Wuthering Heights, but I haven't listened to it in years...YEARS, I say! I don't remember if I liked it or not. I'll have to listen to it sometime today...after I walk my sister's dog. She's at the beach and can't do it.
-
I was thinking the same thing!
For once you mind was in the gutters for the RIGHT reason!! ;D
-
I enjoyed it, although I think David Hobson's voice is showing signs of wear.
Just tried to find some sound clips on Amazon for this guy...but nothing!
-
Danise you are amazing. I hope the new mower makes your life easier.
... AND the (green) grass shorter! :D
-
DR Ron Pulliam, there would never be enough Allison Hayes movies/tv shows to slake my and JRand's thirst for her!
As for Betty Garrett...never been a fan of hers, particularly...or at least she would not be a selling point for me if I were to think about watching a movie.
I thought she did a fine job as a character actress in her films of the 50s, but her TV work in the 70s tended to grate on my nerves for some reason.
-
I have discovered the most wonderful thing. Gel foot insoles! So comfortable and they swoosh as you walk.
I was wearing high wedge shoes today (not the smartest thing) and my feet were sore when i got home. So i wanted to wear my new gels with my slippers. But they are not meant for backless shoes!
Well i fixed that and taped them in. Now I can swoosh around the house in comfort! :)
-
While not so much of a fan to seek out her work at all, I have usually enjoyed Betty Garrett in anything I've seen of hers, particularly On the Town.
-
Oh, I thought all might be interested in a book I saw while at the local Goodwill today. It was called "Men Made Easy". I was tempted to buy it but didn't.
I also saw quite a few VHS "Babylon Five" and "Star Trek" tapes. If I didn't already have the B5 on DVD, I would have been very tempted to buy them.

Why are we suddenly in cinemascope?
It's because of a link I... linked and posted! Sorry! First time I do that! Be kind and go read "François Made Sleazy" :o
-
Thank you for the links DR Francios.
Mr. Warlow has a nice voice, for sure, not as deep as I I usually prefer, although he does sound a bit like some singers that I enjoy.
His CD BACK IN THE SWING has some absolutely wonderful songs on it!

Is that the sequel to "Francois Made Anyway Possible?"
-
I have to go. I want to watch the rest of "What If"!
I am going to be quite the Jose while I'm in NY. I just heard from my friends and I have to go on a train to Dover to meet with them! This trip is going to be such fun!
-
Is that the sequel to "Francois Made Anyway Possible?"
No! I'm not that François! ;)
I hope DR MBarnum is busy listening to the sound clips!
-
Is that the sequel to "Francois Made Anyway Possible?"
Well, that stopped traffic! Was the production of MAN OF LA MANCHA with Mr Warlow the one with my friend Caroline O'Connor and directed by the legendary Susan Schulman?
-
No! I'm not that François! ;)
I hope DR MBarnum is busy listening to the sound clips!
I've never seen you and the other Francois is the same room at the same time; I've never seen you in a room. Period.
I sent DRMBarnum Mr Warlow's site.
-
Well, that stopped traffic! Was the production of MAN OF LA MANCHA with Mr Warlow the one with my friend Caroline O'Connor and directed by the legendary Susan Schulman?
Yes, and according to Tom de Oz, Caroline was miscat and the show did not do well...
She reminds me of a young Chita Rivera.
I would have liked to have seen her in Funny Girl. Caroline, that is!

Do all the chorus boys stand up . . . and run from the room?
I let TCB make a comment about "standing up"....
Yes, they run from the room but I've locked all the doors and windows: that's all revealed in the mentioned-above "François Made Sleazy"!
-
Early each day, to the steps of St. Pauls............
DR Elmore will be cast as the Old Bird Man when the stage version of Mary Poppins reaches Broadway! Oy!

Man of La Mancha was so very very bad.

I may as well confess it here and now, but I am a HUGE Nancy Walker fan, too!
Tons of talent. She steals "Best Foot Forward" from the rest of the cast, including Lucille Ball, June Allyson and Gloria deHaven!
DR Barnum: I agree "to each his own" is a wonderful thing. I have no doubt Ms. Hayes brings both of you loads of pleasure.
-
I may as well confess it here and now, but I am a HUGE Nancy Walker fan, too!
I knew Nancy Walker. She was a sweet but very unhappy lady, always falling in love with gay men, and marrying one, I believe. She used to visit the Drama Book Shop staff whenever she was in New York.
DRTomovoz, I think Caroline would have been better with a good director, but I must admit I don't think she has the vocal chops for the role.
-
And Nancy Walker was a bundle of talent!
-
Yes, horse racing DR Ron P. :D
I always enjoyed Nancy Walker!
-
Just finished watching and enjoying “What If”. I do have one small complaint. I couldn’t see Jose when he took his bow. To dark.
My favorite “What If” was “Audition”. What fun! I hope I don’t giggle thinking about it when I go see “Fiddler” in October. :D
I have a NYC question. My friend, Liz, wrote that I would get the train at Penn Station. "It's right by Rockefeller Center". I've looked at the map of the area and I can't find it!
I did spot Grand Central Station. I wonder if she is mixed up. Can you get a train to Dover, NJ from Grand Central?
-
To clarify--I can't find Penn Station, not Rockefeller Center
-
Anthony Warlow has an incredible vocal range.
He is what I call a baritone-tenor...his "Some Enchanted Evening" and "I Won't Send Roses" on previous CD recordings are magnificent.
Hobson is a high tenor...so perhaps the songs were chosen with that in mind, and Warlow's vocals fall more into his upper range?
-
BB6 Spoilage:
Did anyone want to 'fwow up" after the HOH competition?
-
Nancy Walker--was she the housekeeper on McMillan & Wife? Was that how you spelled it?
-
Couldn't find Penn myself once! Look for Madison Square Garden instead.
-
Penn is underneath!
-
Ask an Australian. lol
Hope you are still not stoned Danise.
-
I shall now be on my way to see Gypsy. If I find myself bored, I shall hie myself out of there and come back to the home environment.
-
Thanks, Tom. Found it! That sure isn't anywhere near Rockefeller Center. Guess I'll have to check with her and find out if she's confused about which station. Penn or Grand Central.
-
Ask an Australian. lol
Hope you are still not stoned Danise.
Alas, I still am and will be until at least later in October. :(
-
Danise,
You could have asked BK.... If you find Tyler, then Penn is never far!!
Ask a Frenchman too ;-)
-
I shall now be on my way to see Gypsy. If I find myself bored, I shall hie myself out of there and come back to the home environment.
Have a good time! Drive safe.
-
Humm, I thought it Penn and Teller.
-
Yes, it's Teller, as in:
Give my regards to old Broadway
And Teller I'll be there ere long
-
Danise how nice to see you still up.
-
I've just started listening to Bernard J. Taylor's Wuthering Heights with Dave Willets and Lesley Garrett. So far, the overture is quite nice. ;)
-
And no, I won't comment on every single track...at all. ;D
-
New York locals if it will fit in my hotel room, does anyone have an air mattress I might borrow for two nights? Due to a misunderstanding I have a claustrophobic hotel room with only a twin bed and a friend joining me for Thursday and Friday nights. My room is so small I’m not sure I can squeeze an air mattress in there but it’s worth a try.
From now until my trip please send good vibes something opens up at the Comfort Inn, and not because one of our Dear Readers has to cancel. My friend is going to keep calling them and checking while we are in Romania visiting Craig.
-
Humm, I thought it Penn and Teller.
Oh, well.... what do I know???
Guess I got confused with this:
Penn & Tyler Green Ladies !!
We don't know Penn & Teller in France!
We only know Peine et Tel Air I guess! :(
or.... Peigne! Hé! T'as L'Heure?
Meanwhile... back at the farm! ;)
-
I just called the hotel and was told the air matress needs to be little. ;D

tonight's BIG BROTHER SHOW spoilers.
Yes, DR Ron, the HOH comp made me want to throw up. ANd if i have to waching another stupid Q&A challenge i will throw up again. Enough is enough. I want someone to earn it!
It would have been pretty funny if James won.

She was also Rhoda's mother in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Rhoda"...and she was Rosie in the "Bounty" TV commercials.

DRDanise, if you need New Jersey transit, I believe you catch the train at Penn Station, which is at 34th and 8th Avenue. Your friend needs to tell you which train to take and to get her station addresses straight. ;D
-
Yep..that was her. And you spelled everything correctly, too!
And she directed CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC.
Quite a varried career.
-
Jane, what dates do you need again? I'll keep checking as well.
Thanks. I'm checking in Oct. 4th, departing Oct 10th.
I have decided not to stress about this any more. My room rates are very good and if I feel the world closing in on me I will just take long deep breaths. ;D I’m sure Bruce can identify with that. Honestly I’m more concerned if I don’t get a room with a tub. I really need the warm soaks after my ordeal at the NIH.
-

Loose/lose: Not quite the same thing, but it's evidently National Punctuation Day. They had an article about it in The Oregonian today. The guy who invented it sells t-shirts that say "It's not possessive." ;D
Nancy Walker: One of the DS and my favorite catchphrases is Nancy's deadpan line from one of the first MTM shows. As MTM is "distressing" an oak chest she is antiquing (with a big chain), Nancy says: "I'm glad you have a hobby that makes you happy."
Trivia: Well, I think maybe I'm the correct guesser, which is great, but even greater is the fact that I evidently imparted some sub-trivia about two of the people that our esteemed BK did not know. How incredible is that?
-
DAILY LEVITY:
When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady sitting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out.
I stopped and asked her what was wrong.
She said, "I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee."
I said, "Well, then why are you crying?"
She said, "He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon.
I said, "Well, why are you crying?"
She said, "For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m."
I said, "Well, why in the world would you be crying?"
She said, "I can't remember where I live!"

I'm just glad that some else shares my thought that a tub is a "must" for a trip.
Everyone laughed at me about the shock I had when I got a room without one the first time around. Now I don't feel so bad. Ha! ;D
I'll never forget that guys look/voice. "Well, you didn't ask for a room with one!" And my answer, "Well, I never thought I had to!"
Don't mess with me and my tub. You New Yorkers don't stand a chance against my Uptown Seffner Attitude! 8)

I'm plan to cry and look helpless-hey it got me upgraded to a suite last year when I limped into the hotel.
Time to go.

For you too Jane. From this morning. He feeds from a bowl in my hand.

Have a good evening, Jane!

Crimson Rosella. He has me well-trained.

The DVD of GYPSY looks SO spectacular. Yes, it's great to see movies on the big screen, but if I were comfortable and content where I was, I'd skip the GYPSY screening.
I saw it in its original release (as I'm sure you did, too, bk), but maybe that's why I wouldn't be all that excited about going to it.
-
Crimson Rosella. He has me well-trained.
He could train me too!
-
Hate to say it but it is way past my bed time.
Have a GREAT evening everyone!
-
I did get the kitchen floor mopped and the counters cleaned. I had no folks over tonight to distract me from these most important duties.

I usually don't buy soundtracks of musical movies on CD when I have the actual films on laserdisc or DVD, but I just had to break down and buy the KISMET soundtrack today. Not only is "Rhymes Have I" on the soundtrack (and not in the film except as part of the background score), but I think the film is kind of a drag but the score and film artists are pure gold. I think separating them from Minnelli's uninspired direction will really make the songs come alive.
I love the OCR and the Lincoln Center recordings, too, but I'm looking forward to having this on CD. It's in stereo, too, which the original LP issue of the KISMET soundtrack wasn't.

I did watch the entire BB6 tonight, and I was VERY disappointed with the results of the HOH competition.
Bye, Bye, Janelle.

I adored Nancy Walker, and I was always furious for her when she lost all those Emmy nominations for RHODA and also for McMILLIAN AND WIFE. She never won an Emmy or a Tony.

I spent the rest of my evening tonight watching Oliver Stone's ALEXANDER.
I must say, I liked a good bit of it. Like all these movies, I tired of the battle scenes. The sound and effects are all exceptional, but I've just never been a war scene fancier, and a little bit goes a long way with me.
But I had no trouble at all following the film even with a later rather abrupt flashback. I understood the reason for it, and it helped clarify in my mind some of the allegiances and petty jealousies rampant in Alexander's core of commanders.
I found it ever so much more interesting and much more artistically mounted than TROY, and to Oliver Stone's credit, the Greek ideal of man/boy love/guidance was explained by Anthony Hopkins in his opening scenes and then illustrated throughout the film, but very tastefully and respectfully. Teenaged boys and men in the audience uncomfortable with displays of affection and dedication between men obviously were going to jeer at this, but I had to admire Stone for including it. If it cost the film a great portion of the audience here in America, so be it. I saw that the film did gross over $100 million in Europe though I'm sure it will still go down in a sea of red ink in the accountants' ledgers.
I borrowed this film from a friend, but I have ordered a used copy for myself. I found it an honorable attempt at portraying a very enigmatic man.
-
But with this film finished, I will either put in another Fred and Ginger tomorrow (THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY, I'm thinking) or go back to THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.
At some point, I want to get to McMILLIAN AND WIFE. I think I only saw one or two of them completely during all the years it ran.
-
Boy, you folks have really been busy posting. I was away a few hours, and almost 200 posts greeted me when I returned.
BK will be pleased!
-
Well, I listened to Wuthering Heights and I have to say that I didn't love it. The singers were great but the score just didn't do anything for me...a little overly dramatic, I guess. Not bad, but didn't interest me. And that's what makes horseracing.
I'm off to watch a DVD of something and then early to bed. I'm driving my friend Margo and her three children to the airport and I have to be at her house at 6:30 a.m. She changed her flight...originally, I needed to get to her house at 4:00 a.m.!! Either way, it's just too darned early, but I said that I'd do it. So, off to bed after watching something.
Goodnight, all!
-
Yes, I've got a couple more shows on the DVR that I recorded today. I need to watch at least one of those tomorrow, too.
-
And our local PBS stations (all 3 of them) still have not shown BROADWAY LOST TREASURES III. I think one of them is showing it this WEdnesday, but so far nothing.
-
Speaking of Nancy Walker, one of the songs Adair and I did at the fund raiser last week was "I Can Cook, Too." I had the "OCR" (the re-recording from 1960, I think) where Nancy does it in G (IIRC). But Adair found an archival version from the 1940s with a big band (with Nancy, I mean) where she did it in Eb. That must be the only time in history an aging actress took the song UP a major 3rd!!
-
Well, it's after midnight here, and I feel a snooze comin' on.
Good night, all.
-
Good Evening!
Back from the final performance of Triangle. It went very well... After the first three scenes... Let's just say "preset". And the heat and humidity came back today too. Ah, well...
But it really was a wonderful performance, and I felt good about my work. Of course, I always wish it could have been better, but I have to say that considering the circumstances that brought me up here - and that I basically learned a complete show in two days - I'm comfortable giving myself a pat on the back.
And Roger Rees also congratulated and thanked me tonight. That made it all worth it.
-
Good evening all. I just jumped in to catch up. 11:54 PM EST so it must be Sunday afternoon for dear Tomovoz so good afternoon to you sir!
-
DRs Rodzinksi and TPunk ended up doing a bit of exploring tonight before seeing Bus Stop, and I'm sure they will chronicle their adventures once they're back home tomorrow night.
-Oh! And since they have the rental car, I'm gonna go ahead and ride back with them to the city tomorrow. We're gonna do some sight seeing - and eating - along the way. Hopefully, the forecasted storms will stay at bay. *It was supposed to rain today, but the skies started to clear up in time for the sunset.
-
It was lovely to see dear ozderek posting yesterday
The Vibes and prayers continue for you dear derek
-
Well, I'm gonna go ahead and get my stuff packed up now. There's a champagne toast at 2:00am after the company strikes the set, and I'll head down there before heading to bed.
But, now, I pack.
Laters...

Indeed it is afternoon. After 2.00pm here. I'll let Derek know about your post. He is back at the hospital tomorrow.

Yesterday bk said that Princesses includes references to girls waxing their bottoms.... why oh why ?!
Do these peopele do it for the shock value or do they really think that its appropriate for kids? Are they so out of touch with main stream American as to think that parents don;t care what their kids see and jhear or are Vixdad and I so out of touch that we are the only ones who still do?
-
I am glad that Triangle went well Jose!! Now when are you going to be in NY for more than 3 hours so we can get together again?!!
-
I am glad TPunk & Rodzinski had a lovely visit with Jose I hope the rest of the weekend is lovely and your drive home will be uneventful.
-
Dear elmore I hope ypu are feeling better today.
Your story about the birds reminde me how Vixdad would sing " Feed the cat, two bucks a can" when our late cat, Bandit would cry for his supper. The first time the Vixter saw Mary Poppins (she was about four) she said "Daddy!!Daddy!! They stealed your song!!"
-
Tom.. please let Derek know he has a whole passell of Lutherans praying for him on Long Island
-
Speaking of feeding the birds.....
someone stole the birdfeeders I put up at the church.
-
Well if i am to make it to church in the monring I should head off. So love and vibes and prayers to all and see you tomorrowy!!!
-
Speaking of feeding the birds.....
someone stole the birdfeeders I put up at the church.
Nice.....
::) >:(
One can only hope that the birds repay the miscreant's action by showering him and his vehicles and his clothes drying on the clothesline and his picnic lunch with "affection" ;)
-
Vengence is mine sayeth the bird
-
and with that bit of sacriledge I bid you all a fond adieu
-
I can't play the piccolo. Can I have the triangle?
I'm a piccolo player, I'll play it for you FJL

Packing is done for now. Just need to throw the small stuff in my carry-on in the morning.
And now I wait for the champagne.

BB6 Spoilers
Ok, I'm really disappointed that Beau won HOH, but it shouldn't be a surprise, it seems to go from one side to the other - probably by design.
I'm sorry Janelle only got about 24 hours as HOH, but it was good to see Jenn go.
-
TomovOz, I cannot even imagine seeing such a beautiful bird in real life! Thanks for the pics!
-
I'm back. I bailed after You Gotta Have A Gimmick. The screening was actually very crowded, and Hisaka's favorite, Mr. George Chakiris was there and we had a lovely chat.
There are not many times I mind being alone - I've been quite alone for many years - but sometimes, I do like to go out late to grab a bite, and I don't really have anyone to do that with and it really bugged me tonight. I know no one but WUSSBURGERS, I must say. No late-night adventurous diners. So, I was going to stop at In and Out Burger - I got myself all worked up for In and Out Burger. I drove down to Ventura and as I approached Lankershim I saw that there was no way I'd be going there. You see, everyone turns right onto Lankershim to go to Universal City and City Walk. So, you simply can't get over to get to the In and Out parking lot - it's virtually impossible - I can't imagine the owners are happy about it. So, I got even more annoyed and just drove the hell home, where I am now, hungry and irritable, not necessarily in that order.
-
vixmom, I don't know what's worse - the fact that they make the reference in Princesses, or the fact that some girls DO that. I mean, what has the world come to when early teen girls have to wax ANYTHING.
-
However, it was lovely to come home to so many lovely posts. I suppose I have to decide whether to eat a Lean Cuisine pizza or to go out somewhere and bring something back. All I've eaten all day are two English muffins, two ears of corn and a small piece of birthday cake. Not enough for the likes of me.
-
More BB6 Spoilers (in case someone taped it and hasn't watched it yet)
I have mixed feelings about tonights BB6...although it was entertaining for awhile, Janelle and Howie's actions towards the others was very childish and out of line and has put them and poor Rachel in a bad situation.
It is funny, but as the show progresses my feelings towards different players change...and oddly enough I now think that James is doing the best job of playing this game right now...it took him awhile, but he has learned.
I would have preferred that Rachel win HOH, but I am not unhappy that Beau won...it will actually be interesting to see what happens now.
As Kaysar was my favorite player, and the person I wanted to win, I don't much care one way or another who wins the game...at this time, anyhow....that may also change, of course.
-
...And speaking of Princesses... While packing, I went ahead and played the demos for the show - I had loaded them into iTunes. A couple of friends of mine were auditioning for the show back in March, and they shared a copy of the demo CD with me.
Interesting stuff. The pop stuff is very poppy, and the ballads... Well, hopefully, they've done some work on those in the meantime.
The laugh out loud moment for me was the lyric that rhymed with "Hindustan".
However, I did not hear any references to pubescent girls waxing their bottoms. But there was a reference to girls getting plastic surgery before turning 18.
-
It's almost champagne time!
:)
-
I almost stopped and ate at that In and Out Burger place, BK, when I was driving around the valley....but instead I had Korean in Van Nuys....and it was mighty tasty.
Which reminds me...Pocoima seems like an area that I should have avoided during my drive!
-
Such beautiful birds, Tom! Thanks for sharing your photos.
-
TomovOz, I cannot even imagine seeing such a beautiful bird in real life! Thanks for the pics!
We can offer you somewhere more comfortable than a fire escape in New York MBarnum. The birds are very much in their comfort zone too.
-
Such beautiful birds, Tom! Thanks for sharing your photos.
Just the one bird DR Laura. His partner and the others in the flock are not as brave (or they're camera shy). This fellow waits for me each morning to feed him from the bowl before I fill the bowls for the others.
-
DR Jason: Take heart. The theme from "The Golden Girls" also has the line:
"And if you threw a party...invited everyone you knew...you would see the biggest gift would be from me...and the card attached would say, 'Thank you for bein' a friend.'"
Kind of sad, how the song is so associated with that show, but never with the guy who wrote it, Andrew Gold.
And he didn't write it for the show, either.
-
Mr Gold's song is quite popular here - for funerals. His song "Lonely Boy" charted here but nothing else.
-
May I ask a question: Has the Internet turned a generation into the biggest bunch of grammar and spelling-challenged people in history?
No, it's just the biggest bunch of people to ever have their errors out there for everyone to see. Problem is, so many of them are so danged sure they are right, that when they see other people making the same mistakes as they do they take it as a verification of their being correct!
:P
-
I'm a 10.C.C. fan. Gold played for 10.C.C. at one stage
-
For the trivia minded (who isn't) - Andrew Gold is the son of "Exodus" composer Ernest Gold and Marni Nixon!
-
So what did you eat?
-
Nancy Walker? Now you're talking! Thanks for the personal remembrance, DR ELMORE.
Betty Hutton.....yup....
Sorry if the other gal doesn't do anything for me. Pictures, longevity, and politics aside - when I read MR BK's comment, I guess it put the button on it for me: the camera didn't love her... Not that Walker or many others are typical motion picture beauties.
Betty Garrett - maybe she looked too much like some of my mean aunts - now that I think about it....maybe that's it. But I really don't think Allison had anything to do with it. 8)
-
PIPPIN is closed and put to bed. On to MY THREE ANGELS.
Lovely photographs today! Thanks for sharing, DRs TOMovOZ and DRLAURA!
-
Sounds like your sojourn was a big success, DRJOSE.
Congratulations!
-
MR BK did you get the email with Cecily's address? Thanks. Sorry if you answered already, I didn't see it if you did.
-
My Rosella friend and partner are waiting to be fed as I type. Thanks Jack.
-
I like Bernard Herrmann's Wuthering Heights.
I have Bernard Taylor's Wuthering Heights, which Mr. Taylor sent me years ago along with several other musicals of his. I should get them down and listen again.
I have the entire Bernard J. Taylor collection, and aside from "Wuthering Heights" the rest is really kinda not-so-great. There are some decent moments in all of his shows, but you can all make your own opinion.
-
You're not a fan of Jerome Kern and you get wet over Sir Andrew Lloyd webber? Oh, DRMatthew, I weep for you! Raise your eyes to the heavens and learn what harmony and composition and some intelligence can mean to humanity and the notes of the scale!
Just bought Ella's Jerome Kern CD from iTunes. I don't dislike Kern, I just haven't been exposed to him enough, I suppose.
-
Well done Matthew. Kern's music is beauty. We aged ones around here have had so much time to "discover" - and we still do. Ella is a wonderful place to start - the songbooks are IMHO some of the greatest recordings of the 20th century.
-
Jrand, got the address. Ate a lean cuisine pizza - not so happy about it, but what can you do. Such are the occasional downsides of bachelordom.
-
Just starting the notes now (had to get over my annoyance), so they'll be a bit late.
-
This could be yet another 300 day.
Back to bird feeding!
-
Four species feeding at the moment" Rosellas. King Parrots, Bronze Wing Pigeons and Indian doves.

No, Vixmom, it's just that you have turned into a Republican.
:o
::) ;D ;)
