Wasn't Deborah Walley TV's Gidget?
Sally Field was TV's Gidget.
Happy Birthday to DR Hisaka!!!!! I suppose when she reads these greetings, it will be near the end of her birthday celebration.
Happy Birthday anyway! :D

I heard something so upsetting on CNN re: Katrina. They were saying that a lot of people had to leave their pets behind. I can't even imagine having to do that.I was reading CNN.com's coverage of Katrina today. Apparently portions of New Orleans are under 20+ feet of water and they have no estimate of how many people have died. It's a gruesome image, but they had reports of bodies floating in the water. Just horrifying...
Also, I had CNN on when I fell asleep, so I was sort of half-listening, half-dreaming about what was happening. I remember hearing about this hospital (i think it NO) where they were considering calling for help (since the water was rising). Only problem is most of the patients were critical care. I don't even want to think about how or where they would move these people.
Good vibes for all involved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I never realized how truly dreadful the 2004-05 TV season was until they began re-runs.
ENOUGH already.
Let's just "call the hour of death" and move on.
Huh? Any season that gives me LOST, VERONICA MARS, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, RESCUE ME, THE COMEBACK, and EYES (the last sadly canceled) is more than welcome at my house.
I've never heard of "Rescue Me" and "The Comeback".
I'm not involved in "Veronica Mars" despite a couple of efforts at watching it.
But give me this: You listed only SIX shows....out of HOW MANY that aired???
And on the opposite side of the "Golden Palace" coin from DR Ron, I happen to think "The Golden Palace" has many funny moments. Not as good as "The Golden Girls", but still rather witty and funny. And yes, there have been a few episodes that were indeed dreadful, but over all, it's qute funny. Afterall, there have been worse spin-offs!
In honor of DR Hisaka's B-day, I will listen to the Japanese recording of "Aspects of Love" as I go about my daily business.
You mentioned this as being a deadly season.
You mentioned this as being a deadly season. I differed with that opinion, and I failed to list HOUSE and THE MEDIUM as two of the most outstanding new shows of the past season.
When has it ever been any different? There have been no years when more than 8 or 10 new shows that debuted were not only quality shows but also popular enough to continue to a second season.
I don't watch those shows in reruns for the most part. I discovered VERONICA MARS this summer in reruns after not watching it during the regular season. I use reruns mostly to look at shows that skipped my attention the first time around. The only shows I watch in reruns that I saw the first time around are the CSIs because they look so glorious in high definition.
Brr-r-r-ah-h-h-HAH! So...it was YOU!
:D
"House" was interesting for the first two episodes. Then you figured out the formula and it became very methodical. Someone gets sick. What could it be? House pops a Vicodin. Let's try this medicine on the patient. Oh, he almost died! House pops a pill. Let's try this medicine. He almost died again! House pops another pill and says something wry. Someone mentions something in passing that catches House's ear. He pops a pill and thinks. With only 8 minutes to go, he figures out the problem and saves the day (and the patient). He pops a pill. End credits.

And then there's the totally unbelievable, for me, "romance" between House and his one female assistant.
Does anyone else have a problem here, from time to time, when you post a reply to something and all you get after the posting is a blank screen?
I hit refresh and nothing happens. This sometimes happens when I enter the site. I click on the daily discussion section and then get "nothing."
Maybe it's just me...but I had to ask.
I'd like to see them do "Survivor: The Hindu Kush" or "Survivor: The Khyber Pass" or "Survivor: Tibet".
Was ASPECTS OF LOVE a hit in Japan? I guess it must have done well enough for them to have made a recording.
BTW, how long did it run in England?
Won't you Change Partners and dance with me?
From April 1989-June 1992
I injured my back at work and had to come home. Wearing a back brace. In much pain.
I think Jose may be Gaslighting himself.
And I would still like them to do "SURVIVOR: Big Jewish Wedding"
Preferably where at least one set of parents is divorced, one of the affianced is not Jewish, and a sibling of the bride is gay.

And during the heyday of The Fireside Book Club (later The Stage & Screen Book Club), I bought a bunch of those coffee table books featuring a single show: The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Titanic, Rent, The Lion King, Sunset Blvd., Les Miserables, The Who's Tommy, etc.
I only get the blank screen treatment when my internet connection and/or ISP is having issues.
Of course, I have to ask, "Have you tired clearing your cache?"
;)

DR Ron, I've been getting that since I got back from vacay.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.

The Richard Altman making of Fiddler on the Roof book is sort of the granddad of these, and is still one of the most thorough and one of the best. Also, there's a wonderful book on the making of Any Wednesday, by its author Muriel Resnick. I got lots of details for Writer's Block from both books.
LOL. We've often wanted something like Survivor: Harlem, where a bunch of uptight rich white people are plopped down in the inner city (I know Harlem is gentrified now, but you get my drift).
There was something on yesterday's posts I needed to respond to. Back in a mo.

I heard something so upsetting on CNN re: Katrina. They were saying that a lot of people had to leave their pets behind. I can't even imagine having to do that.
Our shelter for pets evacuated due to Hurricane Katrina is up and running at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. We are located in large tents in the grassy quadrangle adjacent to the Red Cross shelter. We are still accepting evacuated pets, and as always we need donations of money or supplies.
Noah's Wish is a not-for-profit, animal welfare organization, with a straightforward mission. We exist to keep animals alive during disasters. That's it.
We are not involved in any other animal welfare issues. It's not that we are not concerned about all the ways animals are abused and exploited. Noah's Wish would like nothing more than to see all suffering stop. Fortunately, there are a multitude of national and local animal welfare organizations who are tackling the issues that adversely affect animals. No other organization has made the commitment though to just focus on disaster relief work for animals. That's the void we are filling.
Noah's Wish came into existence in March 2002, not to duplicate existing efforts to help animals during earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes, but rather to expand on what's already in place. Too often, efforts to help animals during these life threatening situations have been gravely inadequate. It would be unacceptable if relief efforts for people were as fragmented.
Noah's Wish recognizes that animals need and deserve an organized, consistent, and professionally managed national disaster relief program. Otherwise, they will continue to pay for human indifference with their lives. What will raise the standards for how animals are managed during disasters is to implement well thought out, field tested, policies and procedures that are practiced in all disasters. Relief efforts for people are managed this way and we feel they should be for animals too.
Noah's Wish has been extremely busy today responding to a variety of phone calls and e-mails, in addition to gearing up to send our initial team to Louisiana. This team will be traveling tomorrow, followed by additional volunteers from all different parts of the United States and Canada. We expect to have a team of at least 100 people in Louisiana by Friday to respond to the needs of the animals affected by Hurricane Katrina. More of our trained Volunteers will follow to provided additional support.
I never realized how truly dreadful the 2004-05 TV season was until they began re-runs.
ENOUGH already.
Let's just "call the hour of death" and move on.
"Hop! Hop! Hop! To Hoppers!"
Name the film in which this phrase was said over and over, and name the actor who played the character whose name was Hopper.
I'm up, I'm up.
The bush trimmers started up (as they do every Tuesday) at eight -
Watching CNN is very upsetting today, I actually started crying. They have incredible footage of rescues being performed. There are many people on roofs waving/screaming for help. They are also talking about all the people in need of medical attention.
It looks like in some parts of NO that the water is almost to the rooftop level.
I read that the French Quarter came through Katrina very well. There's a tiny bit of solace in that, I suppose.
Good Afternoon!
:)
I had one of those "light bulb" moments about an hour ago, and I've been following through on that idea and concept since then. And now to follow through even more...
:)
Laters...

Well, I just stepped outside to check out exactly what they were jackhammering earlier this morning, and I just couldn't seem to find any sign of any sort of work. What's up with that?!?!?!? Who knows? Maybe they did a quick and really good patch job. Hmm...
Willy Ames with tattoos? What a waste!
You got that right. And then there's the predictable conflicts with the CEO and the wealthy man who donates tons of money and believes he should run the hospital.
And House has his young, eccentric crew who idolize and castigate him several times throughout each episode.
And then there's the totally unbelievable, for me, "romance" between House and his one female assistant.
Talk about fatal attractions...one obsessed with himself and the other obsessed with him.
And I would still like them to do "SURVIVOR: Big Jewish Wedding"

I changed a light bulb about an hour ago.
Now that we have an HDTV and HD Cable feed, I have fallen into the same trap! Law and Order has some breathtaking viwes of NYC at night!

DR MATTH - did you do your production of MY THREE ANGELS as a two-act or three-act play. One intermission or two? Where was the intermission?
What a Way to Go!
Mr Dick Van Dyke owned Hopper's Dept Store and became a busy, busy mogul, much to wife Shirley MacClaine's displeasure. His favorite phrase was "A little hard work never killed anybody" which he said many times - most memorably just before....he....dropped...dead! ;D
What?
No one recalls:
"Tartlets?
"Tartlets"?
If I give a clue and say it was Jon Lovitz, can you name the show and what his role was?
But Glenda Jackson's Best Actress Oscar for this movie has to rank right alongside Loretta Young's Oscar for THE FARMER'S DAUGHTER as one of the biggest upsets in Oscar history.
The running gag with Segal not being able to drive the car and her correcting him is really cute.
After the golk match:
Segal: What's wrong now?
Jackson: You mean other than you're still in second?
I definitely agree! ;D I can't remember off my head who she was up against, but it was a shock. :o
I injured my back at work and had to come home. Wearing a back brace. In much pain.
I do have THE HOUSE INSIDE MY HEAD, the self-righteous self-congratulatory book Mary Rodgers wrote about building her dream home in Connecticut. Wonder who lives there now?
DR Vixmom, I received the CD that you sent me. Thanks! I'm listening to it here at work. I was going to send you a PM, but I got the message: Error: The recipient does not have any room left in their inbox. Try sending the message later. So, I'm letting you know here. Again, thanks! ;D
FRIENDS?
Ah, a testamonial for Viagra!
And we know what you think of bush trimmers :-X

Ta-DA!
In an episode of "Friends," Monica was preparing some food for a "food critic" played by Jon Lovitz. She had done some "amuse bouches" and "onion tartlets"...but she was preparing only one course at a time.
I expected Streisand to win for "The Way We Were", with Burstyn being my second favorite choice.
I was totally not upset, though, for Jackson, even though I didn't think she should have won it so soon after "Women in Love."
Fortunately, Burstyn won for a terrific performance in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," but lost, to my continued dismay, for "Resurrection". There was no finer performance by a woman in the 1980s than Burstyn in that role, IMO.
Jane, don't be partying with those Romanian gymnastics girls who just got themselves in trouble out there!
Lovitz does "stoned" like a master.
I think maybe he's been there once or twice.
Never heard of either of these books...and now I am on a quest.
Can I still party with Romanian gymnastics girls? Not if Ann has anything to say about it!!
Jane, don't be partying with those Romanian gymnastics girls who just got themselves in trouble out there!
Maybe this shouldn't bother me, but I heard a newsperson and later a public official say about the hurricane: "This is our tsunami."
Why must we reference the devastation through a different tragedy? I heard this as well when the tubes were bombed in London. "This is their September 11."
They are wholly independent, incomparable events, awful enough in their reality that they don't need the added emotional baggage of a tie-in to another event.
But maybe that's just me. Mainly, I hope plentiful help is on the way.
Oh good!! I hope you like it. They are my favorite band (guess its all those Scottish/Irish/English genes I'm carrying)
Must empty out my mailbox I guess!!
Thou Swell, Thou Witty has exhaustive Hart Lyrics and lots of marvelous photos from original stage productions.

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. Today is my day to sit in the office and wait for the printer people to fix the new printer we've had for three weeks. After the fuser failed, the technician told us the machine already had 9,000 copies on it before it was delivered to us. Our contract was for a new printer. The folks in the printer sales office explained that in their industry, they can sell a demo machine for full price and apparently not even have to tell you that it's not the new one you paid for. Isn't that interesting? I had words with them, but I don't think it will do any good. Anyway, they were supposed to be in to repair it on Friday, then Monday, now today. They never call to tell us they aren't coming.
Danise, the Michael Crawford rose is bee-you-ti-ful! I've already emailed one of your pictures to my mother, who loves roses and Michael Crawford.
Evening all!
Here is a gift for you. As I promised so long ago, Here is my Michael Crawford Rose that bloomed this very day, just in time for your Birthday!
<SNIP>
Speaking of roses...everyday at Comcast.net, they have a "Picture of the Day," pictures submitted by Comcast subscribers (they usually make for good desktop wallpaper). Today's is called "Perfect Rose" and was submitted by Shelley. That's all they information that they ever give you...a title for the picture and a first name. Anyway, here it is:
DR Ginny, I hope she likes it. It sure smells as good as it looks.
Two unrelated, useless bits of information about myself:
1. Last week my nephew made me watch NAPOLEON DYNAMITE on DVD. At first I was thinking to myself, "What the heck is this supposed to be about?" But by the time the movie ended, I found myself loving it. I am ordering my own copy this week.
IIRC, the new Survivor is in Guatemala. But then, no one would have an excuse to wear
I'd like to see them do "Survivor: The Hindu Kush" or "Survivor: The Khyber Pass" or "Survivor: Tibet".
I think der B and I rode that bus, several years ago.
Keith just booked us a day trip from Munich to Salzburg. The bus also stops in the hills that are alive. :D
Not if Ann has anything to say about it!!
LOL. We've often wanted something like Survivor: Harlem, where a bunch of uptight rich white people are plopped down in the inner city (I know Harlem is gentrified now, but you get my drift).Didn't they do this already? Or am I thinking of The Simple Life, with Hilton and Richie?
On the "Let's celebrate the tacky" front...
There's a restaurant on the highway called Crabby Dick's. They're usually known for posting semi-lewd slogans on their sign out front, lots of less-than-double entendres, which have generated a number of protesting letters in the local paper.
They're taking a new tact in their signage, with the current situation in Louisiana and Mississippi in mind. They're advertising their new drink special...on Hurricanes.
Bleh.
Ginny how long before you know if you have received the grant?
Jose - can you email me one of your flyers as an attachment?
Well, I hope that for every Hurricane they sell, they'll be making a sizable donation to the Red Cross.I wouldn't count on it. These guys think it's funny to put on their sign "Queers served here."
Gasoline: $2.79 per gallon. Whew!
Gasoline: $2.79 per gallon. Whew!
By my calculations the equivalent price of gas here in OZ (includes quite a lot of tax) is about $7 USA a gallon. And yes it hurts.
I hate the price of gas. I seem to be ok with it as long as regular doesn't hit $3
TCB, Jed, TomovOz...saying nothing....but passing judgment...oh! yes! I can feel your eyes burning into my posts...asking yourselves what the hell is wrong with Ron Pulliam and why is he posting so much.
Actually, Ron, I was enjoying each and every one of them!
YES, I'm a Kathy Griffin fan, catch her show each week "My Life on the D-List" She's funny, but she seems to be a bit of a loser
DR Ron, check out "My Life on the D-List" - I think it's on Bravo. It's quite good, and funny.
And only Matthew and I here to make it happen.
