Title: SHALL WE DANCE?
Post by: bk on September 04, 2005, 12:09:13 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you've got your evening attire and gowns on, and now it is time for you to dance and post until the cows come home, which will be as soon as they finish doing The Piccolino.

Good morning, all!  I had what Clement Moore (no relation) refers to as "a long winter's nap," and I'm feeling a bit groggy from all the sleep.  Last night, I, too watched two films, MONSTER SQUAD, one of my favorite horror spoofs from the 1980s which deserves a letterboxed DVD, and a new gay(?) comedy EATING OUT, which I wish had been less of a chore and more of a comedy.  Oy!

Today, Matthew - my best freidn from college - and I will see a film.  I don't know which one of THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED and JUNEBUG, which features my goddaughter's godmother Celia Weston, will be the choice, but I'm going to the movies today!

Fred & Ginger?  SWING TIME!

Big Brother 6 talk, no spoilers, just from last night's show.

What do you guys think about Maggie? Do you think she let Ivette win HOH? Was she trying to guess low cause she thought Iv would go over?

I really think she let her win.  That would be the smart thing to do (since she controls ivette anyway).  It makes more sense for mag to be able to compete for HOH next week.

Btw, was that the lamest HOH ever? Giving them questions about themselves? That was so unfair. Plus apparently the Friendship had talked in private about most of the questions while Janelle wasn't there.

Yuck.

Big Brother Live Feed Spoilers

Okay now this is for the spoiler fans. Looks like they've had the nom ceremony and veto comp already.  Obviously the 2 outcasts were nominated. But great news, my fav (janelle) won veto.  I am wondering if they can convince any of the friendship to join their team. Any ideas who would go?

I don't think ivette would. Perhaps janelle could convince april that mag was going to turn on her (she was). Or since maggie always wants to back out of deals, maybe they could convince her to side with howie/janelle.

Good morning!

That heavy dinner and wine last night put me to sleep quickly once I got in bed, but I woke very early and could not get back to sleep, so I've been up since a little after 6 a.m.

Ugh! I hate days that start out like this. Hopefully things will improve as the morning and afternoon proceed.

I think it might now hurt her to talk to April.  While April and Maggie have an agreement. Maggie had to try to decide whether or not to use the Veto and that really tore April apart. She should also talk to Ivette. Clearly Maggie not using the veto showed she wanted to save April over Ivette.  There is a possibility, but I don't know. I think the trashing of Janelle is because they are scared of her and scared that one of the "friendship" (gag) will join her.

Think I'll get the newspaper and eat some lunch

Step 1 will most likely ruin step2.

You would have been horrified at the live TV coverage of the "recuers" forcing people to leave their pets in the vacant homes they were being forced to evacuate. If we are going to ever help these poor lost souls to return to a degree of normality, you can not strip them of the things that comfort them most - it can't be that impossible to make room for at least one pet per person! For a sick person, their pet can be as important as their medication -sometimes even more so.

Good Morning!

I sort of woke up early... sort of slept in...

The radio went off at 8:00, and I listened to NPR for a good bit of time...  Then I drifted off for a bit... Then I heard the the same NPR news report again, which meant it was two hours since the last time I heard the report... So... Then I half-listened to "This American Life" which I've never really liked - the topics tend to lead toward the depressing... So... I finally got out of bed at Noon... And now...

???

HMMM!!! I want some scrapple!!!

Hmmm...  Should I go out and buy some and bring it back - I don't mind the supermarket stuff..  Or should I try to find a diner around here that serves the stufff...

Or I could just have cereal...

Or fast...

I got an e-mail from one of my "union brothers" last night.  He's been hired to play bass for The Woman in White up in NYC.  So, he'll be subletting up in Washington Heights for an undetermined amount of time starting in October.  I guess NYC likes DC musicians!

Jose can remain blameless -for the moment - the scrapple turned out swell. I broke One of the three eggs broke entering the pan, but that was no real tragedy. I was aiming for "fried-over easy" - (I'm a klutz so -"over-easy" means cover the fry pan and add a splash of water at the end to generate steam if necessary). Though I'm a real fuss-budget about a lot things - eggs, Martinis, and Manhattans get an easy pass.

Eggs: I like raw eggs (eggnog, beef tartare, great Caesar dressing), soft cooked eggs (fried easy, poached, soft boiled, shirred), hard cooked eggs (fired hard, hard boiled whole, deviled, egg salad) - there is no fresh cooked egg I can't enjoy (although there is a time and place - I don't want a hard-cooked egg nestling in a mound of corned-beef hash).

M&Ms: I enjoy both gin and bourbon on the rocks; I enjoy both white and sweet vermouth on the rocks - you can't get me steamed up over the proper ration of booze to vermouth in my cocktails - one exception - don't put sweet vermouth in my gin!

Toast also gets off easy - I've never met a bread I couldn't enjoy toasted (though pumpernickel doesn't toast well in my opinion).

Difficult to choose, but I will also say SWING TIME.  It is followed closely by SHALL WE DANCE.

"Pick Yourself Up" is my favorite routine.  I also like the roller skating number.....

BUT if I could only have one....it would be "Never Gonna Dance."  Whew....followed with "Cheek to Cheek."

I found this about pet rescue after Katrina
Subject: Hurricane Katrina Animal Relief Update

Pets & Animals in Distress - Sept 3, 2005
PAW e-Newsletter Hurricane Katrina Rescue Update

Hurricane Katrina has dealt a devastating blow to the Gulf Coast that
has left people and animals in trying and frightening conditions that
will take years for the region to recover.

Pets & Animals in Distress volunteers have been on the phones
contacting shelters in the disaster areas that are taking in animals to offer
our immediate assistance to help with food and supplies that are needed.
This is a massive relief undertaking that will require relief
organizations, animal shelters, rescue groups and government agencies to
coordinate and network together to help in the relief efforts for the animals.
Pets & Animals in Distress is also in direct contact and working with
our friends at The Meow Mix Company along with Purina Foods to arrange
to get food and supplies donated and delivered to those disaster area
shelters and communities that need help.

Pets & Animals in Distress has received many distress calls and e-mails
about animals that were left behind in the disaster area - primarily in
the New Orleans area. Many people were forced to leave their homes
during and in the aftermath of the hurricane and couldn't bring their
animal friends with them. We know and understand the anguish these
caregivers are going through and want to assist in the rescue of these helpless
victims.

We are in contact with relief organizations like the SPCA in New
Orleans, Noah's Wish Foundation, Humane Society and several other animal
shelters that are on the ground in the disaster areas. We are immediately
passing on any information that we receive about any animals that need
to be rescued and saved. Many animals are now being saved and rescued
from homes and being reunited back to families.

We have spoken to Roger Smith Regional Disaster Relief Coordinator for
Noah's Wish Foundation organization who informed us that Teri Crisp,
Director of Noah's Wish is now at the Slidell Animal Shelter, in
Louisiana were shelter officials have put Noah's Wish in charge of helping to
oversee the relief efforts of the overwhelming influx of abandoned and
rescued animals that have come into their shelter that normally houses
about 50 animals and is now well over 300.

Pets & Animals in Distress has been making great progress networking
with many of these relief organizations and shelters, sharing information
and contacts and coordinating our relief efforts. We thank our many
volunteers and everyone that is working tirelessly a round the clock
making phone calls, sending out e-mails, coordinating and organizing relief
efforts to bring in supplies and to help rescue and save as many
animals as we possibly can. It is an overwhelming challenge that is ahead of
us for many months, BUT WE CAN DO IT!

I had the opportunity to speak with Laura who is with the SPCA of New
Orleans that is at ground zero surrounded by all of the chaos. We have
been told that city officials are now allowing them to go in and
rescue the many animals that were left behind in homes. I also have spoken
to a lady named Linda Coker from New Orleans that had been visiting
her family in Alabama when the hurricane hit. She had left her 2 cats
and 2 dogs behind with enough food and water for a week but couldn't go
back because of the evacuation and has been very frantic and upset
trying to get her animals rescued. It was reported that the animals were
alive as of Tuesday from a neighbor. We have passed a description of the
animals and the address of where they are located to the SPCA in New
Orleans who will go to the location to see if they are still there and
rescue them.

Mortgage records may be drownedOrleans documents are in basement

By Greg Thomas
Real Estate writer

Thousands of lawyers in the metropolitan area have lost their files, their clients and their offices, but one of the biggest legal ramifications of Hurricane Katrina's flooding waters is the probable loss of real estate records dating back to the early 1800s.

The records, which include titles, mortgages, conveyances and liens, were stored in the now-flooded basement of City Hall on Poydras Street.

In 2002, employees of Register of Conveyances Gasper Schiro began the tedious process of entering the records into computers, a $700,000 process that could have been contracted out and accomplished quickly but was instead done slowly by his staff to save money.

It's unclear how much of the information has been digitized or whether the computerized information is stored safely. If either the original records or the digitalization is lost, it will be a major mess, said Southern University Law Center Professor Winston Riddick, who teaches real estate law.

While it will be a tedious process to fix, and it can be fixed, it will be a major headache that could take years. The records involved date back to 1827, with the earliest recorded by hand in Spanish and French.

According to the American Center of Real Estate Lawyers, or ACREL, the loss of the records could be devastating to the local real estate industry.

The process of restoring the information could be incredibly tedious and create havoc for homeowners who will be filing insurance claims, said Professor Riddick. While he expects insurance companies to honor claims by owners who have copies of their insurance policies, the potential for delays and other hassles is very real.

For City Hall records, Sterbcow said, "it's the mortgages that's going to be ugly. To put it mildly, how are you going to be able to prove if you own a piece of property if your records are gone? How are you going to be able to prove you have a mortgage, or one is paid off?"

Records for the 24th Judicial District in Jefferson Parish are probably in much better shape than the records in Orleans Parish, Sterbcow said.

"Jefferson Parish sounds like they're going to be ok for mortgages and conveyances,'' he said.

RE: TOD,
There is no way I could pick a favorite Fred and Ginger dance number...some I haven't seen in years, but all of them are great as I recall!

Just finished watching ZEBRA IN THE KITCHEN...oy! What a mess of a movie. It could have been very cute, but it was so badly edited and acted. Even though I love many in the cast, Martin Milner, Joyce Meadows, Dorothy Green, John Milford, Jim Davis, I doubt I will be watching this again anytime soon (actually I only watched it because someone I will be interviewing is in it...will be curious to find out what she thinks of it.).

Another clip from the same newsletter:

Quote
There are still many animals that are left inside homes that need to be rescued. We are putting out a SPECIAL ANIMAL BOLO ALERT and are asking anyone that may know someone that had to evacuate the disaster areas that had companion animals that they had to leave behind to please have them contact Pets & Animals in Distress at:contact@petsandanimals.org or call (954) 202-9991. We are compiling a list of animals that need to be rescued to pass on to affiliate relief organizations, rescue groups shelters and volunteers in those areas who are already on the ground rescuing stranded animals.

Glad to see somebody's doing something!

Afternoon all!

A belated “Happy Birthday” to DR Matt!

I’m just spending a lazy day at home.  I’ve got a pot of home made spaghetti sauce on the stove.

I hope to get a picture of the squirrels for you all.  They are sooo cute.  One has decided that the box of food on the tree is his and his alone.  When he’s not eating out of it, he lays on top of the box with his little arms over both sides as if to say, “MINE!”

We have another one that just goes into the box and stays there.

DearReaderLaura, you are a treasure.   :)

I also have a request for the walking tour, only if it won’t take us out of the way and only if it is possible.  When we go through the China town part, is there a  tea store?  I love Jasmine Green tea and would like to pick some up from the area.  I’ve also heard about Rose Green tea and would like to try a cup.

I see people on the forum.  This bodes well for a live chat, and let me tell you, with thirty posts at eleven o'clock, we need all the good bodes we can get.

All the Astaire/Rogers numbers are swell, but for my money, a few of them enter an entirely different stratosphere - they are: Pick Yourself Up - one of the most perfect numbers in the history of the musical film, Let's Face The Music and Dance - ditto, and Never Gonna Dance - perhaps the finest number they ever did, one that is high art and as beautiful as anything I've ever seen.

I feelso sorry for the poor animals.  I read about them killing the zoo animals and it broke my heart.

I said from day one that I worried about all the dogs and cats and other animals that would be left behind.  I agree that they should let people take their pets with them.

One of the benefits of having a nice long sleep until ten-thirty is that I get to eat very soon.  I'll be making cheeseburgers here at the home environment, along with an ear of corn or two - a completely dietetic meal.  What's fascinating about the pre-formed hamburger meat one buys from Gelson's is that they have the caloric and fat count on the package - each patty is 166 calories (can't do better than that), and each patty's fat grams are 8, which isn't so bad if you have two of them.  Corn, of course, is only 75 calories per ear, and I've been learning not to drown them in butter.

I "won" three soundtrack CDs on eBay in the early morning hours.  I made the bids just before I went to sleep at two.  One auction ended shortly thereafter, and the others ended four hours later.  I normally would use eSnipe, but I figured I was safe.  I ended up being the only bidder on the second one, but on the third one some yokel came in and tried to snipe ten seconds before the auction end.  He didn't outbid me, but he did get the price up to within two dollars of my top, which means he cost me an extra twelve bucks.  This guy has a whopping six feedbacks - he's bid on and won exactly six items in two years, his last being last May.  So, I've got to get this guy going up against me, and not exactly on a soundtrack anyone is clamoring for - Alexandre Desplat's score for Philipe de Broca's Amazone.  Go know.  I did "win" the marvelous Philippe Sarde score to Le Bossu, which I didn't even know existed.

Add to the fun! Go to WalMart and buy a bag of dried ears of corn and the wood-feeder with a spike designed to hold them.

You can even do more - buy the large green wire baskets designed to hold Birdola Bird Cakes (6.5 x 7.5 inched) - nail it to a tree and watch the furry fellows have fun - they swing on the cage while they're nibbling the bird food.

While the squirrels are off eating the bird bar, the birds may well go gather up the crumbs under the squirrel box (they are sloppy feeders!) Blue Jays will also fly over and steal corn kernels from the ears of corn.

Anothe cheap feeding ploy - get the large bags of unsalted whole peanuts and scatter them under the tree.

Lord - these folks can't think beyond their chin!

Big crisis - many of the folks in the evacuation centers need prescription drugs. They are desparately hunting for people with cars to transport all these people to local drug stores! Think maybe we could gather up the prescriptions and deliver them en  masse to a local pharmacy in the morning and do a mass pick-up the next day! I guess Barney Rubble and Homer Simpson have clones in disaster management.

Oh the birds have already discovered there is good eating under that feeder.  We've already had several Blue Jays and both male and female Cardinals .

I know I will break down and get a proper bird feeder.

I've put parrot food in the box because it has peanuts and pumkin seeds in it.   They LOVE it.  What I just got a kick out was a little while ago the fella in the box spit out the red pepper.

I take it that wasn't to his liking.

We just had a second squirrel come down the tree while the first was in the box.  Needless to say, they scared one another!  Ha, Ha!

I think I could market it as "Squirrel-In-A Box".  Hours of family entertainment and all for the price of a bag of peanuts!

April is ripe for the plucking.

She's already had Maggie favoring Ivette over her.  She has heard Maggie say it would NOT be strategic for her to save April for the final two.

Trouble is, only Maggie and April are there for the nominating.  And Ivette won't replace Janelle with Maggie.  My guess is that April will be put on the block to replace Janelle.

Then, there's one vote for April (Janelle) and one for Howie (Maggie) and Ivette is the "tiebreaker."

She could probably have a stupid moment and choose to evict April...but I don't think Maggie will let her.

Can you believe Maggie's comments about how Janelle kept her from talking with Howie last night...saying Howie can't think for himself...and then proceeded to tell her own group "what to think."

She's a hypocritical bitch, that one.  She and Ivette are cut from the same coarse cloth.

As for Janelle winning the veto, I can well imagine the s**t fit Ivette must have thrown when she was once again thwarted by Janelle!  :D  :D  :D

Speaking of eBay, I lost an auction recently in which I was the highest bidder up until the last second, in which i was sound asleep. I was bidding on an LP of ALW's "Song and Dance" starring Sarah Brightman.  It was never transfered to CD (for obvious reasons) If anyone has a lead on that recording, feel free to pitch it my way. :)

Well, I had an esnipe bid in on a "partial" set of lobby cards from "The Barkleys of Broadway."  The seller had six of the eight cards, but they included the title card.

I bid $180.  Alas!  The seller's reserve was "not met" and the auction died a stillbirth.

I HATE "reserves"....just state the minimum you'll accept and let folks decide whether or not to bid.  I detest guessing games, and that's all that "reserve" crap is...a guessing game.

What?  Are they scared to state how much they "hope" the bidding will get them?

I don't understand it.

Well, my niece and nephew ended up coming over again earlier this afternoon, which mean that Uncle Jojo was ready for a nap after about an hour.  ;)

It really is sooo nice not having Alyssa run away from me screaming and crying anymore.  In fact, she comes right up to me and gives me a big hug, "Uncle Jojo!" - which sometimes comes out of her almost three-year old mouth as "Uncle Dodo!"  No complaints.

I've seen the Sarah Brightman version on cassette and of course, I own the Marti Webb version on CD.  I've never seen the SB on CD.  The SB LP went for almost $20 in eBay, it's on my "watching" list on eBay, so it may come up again.  If you wanted to get rid of it, we could talk :)

Only $20?  I was hoping you'd say it went for around $80 or more.  ;)

I haven't played the LPs since I got rid of my record player ten years ago, so... But I have taken good care of them.  There are a few I do want to keep for sentimental reasons - Sunday In The Park With George and Sweeney Todd (I also just love the large booklets!) - oh and Merrily We Roll Along with it's window cutout cover - but that's about it.

If you can tell me the proper and safe way to ship an LP...

This was not the first time. A new song was added for the Nell Carter/John Schuck (again) revival. The song was You Make Me Happy. It was sung after NYC for Miss Hannigan and Grace. It was according to Charnin written for Carter and when she left the song was dropped never to be used again.

We are back after a very interesting afternoon at the Reliving Veterans' History Festival, which was held on the grounds of the Dayton VA Medical Center.  It's the third oldest veterans' health care site in the US and an underappreciated (IMHO) historic treasure in the Dayton area.  You can visit the virtual museum at:

www.dayton.med.va.gov/museum (http://www.dayton.med.va.gov/museum)

The American Veterans Heritage Center has been established to repair and preserve four of the historic buildings, with the Home Chapel being their highest priority.  The chapel, opened in 1870, was the first permanent church ever built by the US government.  Here is the only photo I took today:

I do not like when they add these new songs to shows that do not need new songs, that are proven hits.  Oh, it can work one out of one thousand times (Old Fashioned Wedding) but usually the new songs are never as good as the rest of the score and stick out like sore thumbs.

Wow, has it been a while or what?

A nice nostalgic feeling swept over me as I began reading BK’s notes for today. I regret that I have been errant and truant for months, but as we all know, life becomes more and more hectic each day, and I find myself not touching the computer for days on end, too consumed by my never ending schedule.

Thank you to those who posted messages/sent me an email on my birthday. The last week of summer marked my 18th birthday…it has been 3 years since I first dropped by HHW (back when the comments were ON THE NOTES PAGE…*gasp*) and there are still some familiar faces and names J.

With my senior year starting, I already had a heap of activities on my plate. For the month of July, I was at the University of Richmond participating in the Governor’s School, which is a program for gifted and talented rising juniors and seniors to go and experience the college life studying their area of talent. I was selected to go for vocal music, but the program was about much more than just music. With no phones, computers, or televisions available to us (sort of), we were basically cut off from the real world, and completely submerged into an academic environment that really, really suited me.

(August 1st was an interesting day. Nobody had thought to mention the bombings in London to us, and so I spent the better part of my evening at home on the computer, scrounging the internet for any leftover articles on what was happening in the world.)

For the rest of August I worked, stopping only occasionally for the rare party, senior pictures, and a Ben Folds/Rufus Wainwright concert where we were moved to the front row. Sheer bliss.

School started this past Monday, and already I am involved as the President of the Choir program, President of The Thespian Council, Vice President of the Senior Class Council, I am on the board of a local foundation aimed to help teenagers get involved with theatre to stay out of trouble, I am starting a Hurricane Aid Donation for the school, as well as taking a full high school schedule, and a Spanish 101 class at a local community college. All of this on top of tutoring new French students and a part-time job.

I hope that suffices as an excuse for not being around, although I have a feeling nothing will J.

Our school is putting on a production of Noises Off this fall, and although I wasn’t planning on auditioning, the director pulled me aside last week to confirm that I would be at the auditions. He even said he would double cast the role in case I am accepted into the Virginia Honors Choir, which is the same weekend. Normally I wouldn’t dream of adding something else onto my schedule, but I am in love with the character of Dotty, and hearing him tell me this makes me think I have more of a shot at being cast. We shall see.
As nice as it would be, I’m afraid I have no room in my schedule for any romance. Someday, perhaps.

Well now that you know my life story, I must depart. Homework, laundry, cleaning, and planning to do. Life never stops, huh? Bummer.

Email me please!

(Swishy) Sarah.

PS- A photo of me/best friend Brandon at the Governors School...basically the only photo of myself I have ever liked. Ever.

I'm back from an interesting film, THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED, or DE BATTRE MON COEUR S'EST ARRETE, with an interesting cast led by the quirkily handsome Romain Duris.  I feared the film was going to turn into a French GOLDEN BOY (GARCON D'OR?), but it kept me amused, curious, and concerned.  I also saw previews for three films I now want to see:
BALZAC AND THE LITTLE CHINESE SEAMSTRESS
MUSIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT: musicians in the Philadelphia Orchestra
OPERATION: DREAMLAND: about American soldiers stationed in Iraq

Next week:  JUNEBUG!

Good Evening!

Funny how now that my niece and nephew have gotten older, that it's me who takes the afternoon nap!  -I guess I did get "older" just over a week ago.

DR elmore - I want to see "The Beat My Heart Skipped" too since it's a piano-centric movie.  I vaguely remember the American original, and I've heard such good things about this "remake" - which was done in "reverse" as it were - a French remake of an American original instead of the other way around!  -However, everyone seems to agree that the French version is better - like it always is.

:)

And I noticed that "Balzac..." is playing at that small Art House up by Central Park South, right behind the Plaza - or whatever the Plaza is now or soon will be called.  Maybe we can catch it together once I'm back up there this week.

All right, where in tarnation IS everyone?

I have been busy bonding with a troubled teen.

A new attendee at our church brought her teenage grandson (who lives at The Home For Incorigible Teenagers) to church with her this morning. He was rather sullen when he arrived. I knew from the grandmother that he was being trained in desert horticulture at The Home For Incorigible Teenagers, so I asked him about some of our plants that are struggling. We made the rounds around the property and he offered advice. After the service, he came to me and said that some of our cacti were planted too deep and that he would like to dig them up and replant. So after changing into grubby clothes, we went back and he spent the afternoon replanting and then digging holes with a pick to plant some of the things that still were waiting to be planted. Then he offered to come tomorrow morning at 6 am to finish the rest. This from an incorigible teenager, who seems like a pretty swell kid to me.  His grandmother said she hadn't seen him smile so big in quite a long time.

And that is why I was gone all day.

Yes, indeedy!  It's based on a Harvey Keitel film, FINGERS, which I've never seen, and you should definitely see the French film.  It's quite good.   The actress who plays the pianist from Beijing is really wonderful, but the who cast is quite interesting.

I took a nice drive.  Surprising amount of people driving around - usually Labor Day weekend turns LA into a ghost town, but you wouldn't know it from the nincompoops driving around, cell phones to their ears, or minds just up their rectal cavities.  I was driving down the street, three blocks from my home, when someone just ran a stop sign.  I missed hitting the idiot's car by one inch and then this mongoloid flips me off - that was that, and I turned and followed him, tail-gaited him, hoping he'd pull over.  He didn't, because his head was up his rectal cavity.

Ah, DR SwishySarah was hanging around my old stomping grounds.  Well, near my old stomping grounds at least.

I almost applied one year to be one of the instructors at the Governor's School for the Arts, but, like Sarah mentioned, you do sort of live in a bubble for those three to four weeks.  Even the instructors are required to live on campus, and they are not allowed to take leave for anything but family emergencies.  I do understand the reasoning behind the requirement, but I just could not see myself being a "student" again for four weeks.

BUT, it is a great program, and kudos to DR Swishy for, first of all, being accepted to the program, and, secondly, for having such a good time while she was there.

Hmm... I guess the stars must be aligned properly...  I just got another offer for another show!  Yes, it's a small show, and I'm already booked during the period that it runs so I wouldn't be able to take it anyway, but it was still an offer nonetheless.  ;)

*I did check my horoscope - just for fun since it's been a while - and the general forecast for me and my fellow Virgos is that things are starting to look up.  After the yearly "turbulence" of the late August sky, things are starting to calm down.  Onward and upward!

Alyssa had her McNuggets Happy Meal.  She kept asking for "Chicken Papa".  What?  Chicken Papa.  What?  Finally her brother helped to translate for me: Chicken and French Fries - papas in Spanish.  I kept thinking she was trying to ask for Popeye's Fried Chicken.  ;)

John Michael had a Hamburger (plain!) Happy Meal.  With five(!) packets of ketchup.

And "Uncle Dodo" had the Cobb Salad with Grilled Chicken.  Very dietetic and very tasty.

"All-time favorite Fred numbers" - thanks for asking, I've got a million of them. There was my great rendition of "The Doctor Is In" at Camp Loyaltown in CHARLIE BROWN, my solo on "Zehu Hanigun Shel Nachat" at Yeshivah graduation, my renditions of "California Dreamin'" and "Route 66" in the law school revue IT'S A LONG WAY TO CERTIORARI.  I could go on and on.

But that smoothly (?) brings me to the topic of what's to become of the Supreme Court - I've tried to engage people in conversation about this, but I seem to have no takers on the subject, at least not on this holiday weekend.  At least one person told me that we need to show respect for Rehnquist for a while before getting too riled up.

DR laura, I also enjoyed your story very much.

Btw, for those interested in the Fall TV season.  Have any of you seen any shows that seem even remotely interesting? I keep reading through them and I cannot find anything that sounds appealing.  I may try a few shows once.  I think I will try Ghost Whisperer (i like Jennifer Love hewitt), Related (i like the WB and this is supposed a girly show like Gilmore girls).  I know I will definitely watch Apprentice Martha Stewart. I may try Close to home (is that what the one with jennifer finnigan is called?).

The new Entertainment weekly has a great preview section. It also includes blurbs on all the returning shows (with big articles on Lost, Desperate housewives and a few others).

As for THE COMEBACK, HBO was advertising it as the season finale, but I have a feeling it is not going to get a renewal for another season. GHOST WHISPERER seems too much like MEDIUM without the police procedural, and it's the combination of the two things that make me like MEDIUM. Without that mystery to solve, I don't think I'd find the premise all that wonderful.

But, then, I wasn't all that sold on VERONICA MARS until I watched it, and I got hooked quickly. You can sometimes to taken completely by surprise.

I will probably sample THRESHOLD (I like Peter Dinkins) and will definitely give NIGHT STALKER a try, even though our local TV critic gave both of those shows one star each (out of four stars).

Oh, and MY NAME IS EARL has gotten good reviews and I'll probably try it, too.

All right, where in tarnation IS everyone?  I'm sure the NY contingent are all out playing together, eating eggs benedict, drinking Manhattans, and galavanting about like gazelles on a Labor Day weekend, because they certainly aren't HERE.

I have been out and about all day.  I started the day at the house without the computer that's being house-sat, then I went to my sister's and we went down to Harbor Days, which is an annual festival on Percival Landing, here in Olympia.  We just had to get our Demo burgers (in support of local Democratic candidates) and my sister wanted to buy a hand-made leather purse.  It started sprinkling as we got to the place and before we parked, there was a bit more rain raining down (fortunately, I brought my huge golf umbrella).  By the time we got the purse and went to the Demo Burger booth, it was a torrential downpour!  I was wearing a light (in weight, not color) jacket, my jean shorts and Birkenstocks...and no socks, which makes them very slippery!  What was I thinking??  I was soaking wet from the knees down.  We got the purse and burgers and at another booth, some delicious home fries made from organic potatoes, and got back to my car.  We're both soaked.  But the burgers and fries were worth it! ;D

After that, I drove my sister home and I went to my home (next door).  I watched a documentary called In the Realms of the Unreal - The Mystery of Henry Darger (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00094ARX2/qid%3D1125896727/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-2830772-2835105).  It was quite interesting.  After that, my parents came over to my sister's house and we all played Phase 10 and listened to Donna Summer's Live and More Encore (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000JBEA/qid=1125896984/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14/104-2830772-2835105?v=glance&s=music) CD. ;) We had to listen to her English language/disco version of "Con Te Partiro," because we had just listened to Andrea Boccelli and Sarah Brightman's version (in Italian...and not disco).  I then came home and now am attempting to catch up before I have to go back to the house that I'm house-sitting (I do hope that I let the cat in the house before I left!).  Tonight is the last night.  The owners get back tomorrow.  That was my day. :D

Did it never really get transferred to CD (for obvious reasons)?  I could have sworn I saw both the Marti Webb and Brightman recordings in the CD bins at one time.  I seem to remember checking the labels closely since the cover art was the same.

Maybe so, maybe not.

As far as I know, it's never been released on CD.  I have the Sarah Brightman LP and the Marti Webb CD.

I just posted a review for New Guy In Town on Amazon. I didn't say too much, but gave it a 5 star review

I made a CD of only the songs from Sarah's version, though...but as a bonus track, I added the one song on the "Dance" side, "When You Fall in Love," which has the same melody as "Unexpected Song."

B-B-B-Bored.

I will say that since Governors School ended, I have had a restless feeling 24/7, causing me to get little to no sleep every night. I sleep from around 3-8, maximum...I would see a doctor about it, but I feel fantastic and energized all day. I guess a month of complete stimulation will do that to you.

Mahler makes my heart hurt.
