I'm not a fan of sauces and condiments. I often wonder what they're trying to disguise!

Bearnaise sauce is OK as long as it is not made from real Bears.

And speaking of Zzzzs, here's the solo version of ZING A LITTLE ZONG, by Leo Robin and Harry Warren:

Zing, Zing, Zing a little Zong with me
I know we're not beside the Zuider Zee
But when you're zittin' by the zide of me,
I want to zing a little zong.

Zing zome zentimental melody
About a chapel or an apple tree
About a couple living happily
And I'll be glad to zing along

This ain't the zeason for getting' kinda zilly
You really are a dolly, a dolly and a dilly
You got a reason to cuddle kinda close to me
And we can do a very clever piece of close harmony

Oh! Zing, zing, zing it's getting late my pet
We've got a most important date to zet
I'm sure that we will make a great duet
And we can zing a little love zong all night long.

All these Zs are reminding me of when I played the queen bee in my fourth grade class's production of Whitling and the Stone Princess. I buzzed a lot and used a lot of Zs. "Zo" instead of "so," "zee" instead of "see," that kind of thing.

I don't know why I wasted time typing that out when I should be working on my paper.

There was a major setback about half an hour ago when I realized that I'd forgotten my thesis statement and had to come up with another one. I really should have written that first one down.

I was also very upset when I took my scheduled 11 o'clock break so I could watch M*A*S*H and some other show was on TV. The Fox people are trying to get to me.

The best condiment is chocolate. It goes with anything. It tastes great, and the bonus is the faces my mom makes when she watches me eat fettucine alfredo with a Hershey bar.

I started a sentence half an hour ago and, as far as I can tell, it hasn't ended yet. Stop the insanity!

I had this really long sentence going once in a paper about Heart of Darkness and I kept it up just to see how long I could get it. It ended up being 150-plus words. I was so proud.

Good morning, all!  I've got to get a chunk of the Faith Prince chart done this morning before the recording office and an Arlen-Gershwin meeting later, so the alarm went off at 5 am.  So far, there's not enough caffiene in my pantry or my body to do any good.

DRJose,  your "mondegrene" reference is from the Scottish folksong "The Bonnie Earl of Moray," particularly in the Benjamin Britten arrangement; I only know this because sometime around 1969, I read the original article about this.  My memory is that the article was Canadian, since the lady who showed me the article was Canadian, a former singer at the Stratford Festival, and at that time a librarian at Miami University.  I had just discovered the Britten folksong arrangements, and she asked me if I knew about Lady Mondegrene.   The line is "They've slain the Earl of Moray and laid him on the green," which became "They've slain the Earl of Moray and Lady Mondegrene."

Another great book about mangled vocabulary is "Anguish Languish."  There were also a couple of wonderful books of nursery rhymes employing the French language "Mots d'heure: Gousses, rames," which claimed to be a medieval French book of rhymes but were actually Mother Goose (Mots d'heures: gousses) rhymes; my favorite was "Un p'tit, d'un p'tit."

No thoughts on the TOD!

Same here, DR Danise. Three or four of my classmates in the sixth grade ended up in high school classes because we were in the college prep classes; everyone else from sixth grade went their separate ways in high school.

After high school, no one went to the same college I went to, so that ended our association then, ad I've never seen them since.

Well, at least I'm not alone.   :)

Hey, it's 68 degrees F here!  Cool!

Good morning, dear friend(s) (almost a She Loves Me reference)

I went to bed at 8pm last night. We had a quiet day at Chez McLaughlin/Morelli, Anthony working on a DVD transfer for a friend and I prepping some CDs to be mailed to various and sundry friends and family. We had a nice dinner of baked potatoes, sliced chicken and salad. I used one of my favorite condiments, mild salsa, on my baked potato.

I then rode the exercise bike for 45 minutes, cleaned up, laid down on the bed for a few minutes with the fan blowing gentle breezes and the next thing I know it's 5:45am.

I now must wash my oatmeal bowl (this morning I added a plum to the oatmeal and raisins) and then off to work again.

TOD:

I love bold, hearty mustards.

I like Hellmann's mayo, too.

Catsup only on burgers and fries.

Tabasco sauce is always welcome on a table.

A1 sauce used to come in extra-oniony or extra-garlicky, which was very tasty.  But I guess they've stopped making it.

I agree, if it's not Heinz57 it's not catsup ketchup.

I also enjoy HP sauce (Original) which I was introduced to by Vixdad

Hollaindaise sauce is a wonderful concoction which can be eaten on anything!! (Maybe even chocolate)

I do prefer Heinz ketchup, but I am not a purist. I buy what's on sale, and that usually means a store brand. Don't like regular mustard at all unless it's used in cooking, but I never put it as a topping on anything. Like mayo a lot (again, like Duke's brand but will eat any kind).

As for sauces, I have made and really like both bernaise and hollandaise as toppings for asparagus and broccoli, but those are rare actually. Most of the cooking I do for myself is much plainer and doesn't require sauce.

Just to let people in on it if you don't know. Deep Discount is having a buy two - get one free DVD sale that lasts through the 20th. Most of the 200 items they're offering in this promotion are MGM DVDs (and I have such mixed feelings about that company), but you might want to toddle over there just to check them out.

I love "Zing a Little Zong," too. In fact, I just rewatched JUST FOR YOU a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it all over again.

Too bad Jane Wyman never found herself in any first rate musicals rather than the star vehicles she did with Bing at Paramount. I'd loved to have seen what MGM could have done with her in a musical with all of that superb behind-the-scenes talent they had.

LOL....DRMATTH, I agree with you!  Most of Bing's musicals were just vehicles for his particular and special talent....including JFY and HCTG.  Enjoyable but not memorable.

But as you say certain moments are special.  And I also agree that Wyman would have been a knockout in an MGM musical.  She was a bit old for the Grayson and Powell roles of the 50's.....and she probably wouldn't have taken the Dolores Gray roles....supporting parts they were.  We will just have to settle for ZING and COOL COOL COOL OF THE EVENING.

DR Vixmom, if you are ever waiting for someone at the Stage Door again, you can usually just ask someone inside the door to let you know if the star will be coming out.  They usually check, as often they have snuck out another exit or are greeting guests in their dressing room.

DR MattH, I decided to watch REUNION since my sis said she thought i would like it.  But I hated it!  It was so predictable, and i cannot stand when the upcoming reveals are completely obvious (like Will being sent to jail, or Jenna and the guy who liked her having sex when the other girl was going to declare her feelings to him.).

Plus watching that woman from the OC try to play a 17 yr old was too much for me! :)

She did that, she asked everybody who came out and they all said. "I don't know if he's coming out, he's still in there now".  After nearly an hour we persuaded her that he was probably taking a nap between shows and we should move on.

Hugh Panaro tends to sneak out the front of the theatre to avoid some of the more avid Phan-atics. I believe DR Jose even had a story about running into Hugh one day on 44th street as he was trying to avoid a Phantom Phreak. Some of them tend to go a little overboard which, unfortunately, ruins it for the normal folk who just want to meet and greet.

TOD: Heinz Ketchup or none at all. None of that catsup crap. I hate, hate, hate mustard, though I can sometimes stand the straight up yellow variation on a hot dog. I love, love, love chili on hot dogs (the chili dogs at Arties are very, very good) and I love Hellman's mayonnaise.

I'm one of the few in the northeast who slops on the Miracle Whip. It's a southern thing, I guess. I like it best when the Whip is really cold and you put it on a hot fried egg sandwich. Yuuuu-umm!

Re. sauces: I love a good meat sauce. I even love bad (Prego) sauces. I'm poor, so that's all I can afford. You acquire a taste, I guess...

Alfredo sauce is a particular favorite, and I must have tartar sauce on my fish if it's fried. I'm also a big fan of gravies. Any sort of gravy. It's dee-lish.

I had a follow-up appointment with my sleep doctor today. He gave me two big thumbs up, told me my recent week of depression most likely was a result of my body "dreaming" too much too quickly and said I would be fine. I don't have to go back for another follow-up for one year. Woohoo!

It's my belief it was a misread attempt at humor from another DR, but I will say no more.

Right now I'm fuming over a call from a Chicago DARLING OF THE DAY rehearsal concerning a song that was "adapted" from the Jule Styne manuscript for the Mufti performances.  It was my understanding the ms should be used (I personally hate the revisical theory of "The composer's dead, let's rewrite him") as it is on the original demo.  I was just told what they had didn't match the demo!  And what can I do about it from this distance?

Well, actually, I was thinking about dinner at Barrymore's with you, Danise, Cillaliz, MBarnum, and any locals who feeli like coming along, say, around 6:00 pm?

Count me in! I'll put it on the calendar and try to persuade Mr. Morelli to join us.

How is Anthony's ankle these days?

She did that, she asked everybody who came out and they all said. "I don't know if he's coming out, he's still in there now".  After nearly an hour we persuaded her that he was probably taking a nap between shows and we should move on.

No, I meant you should ask the guy who sits inside the Stage Door to check for you.  If they know a fan is waiting for a particular actor, they will go inside and check for you.

Well, I've had two phone calls in a row forcing me to leave my desk; both are prerecorded messages, "Vote for me in tomorrow's primary."  Christ!   The tv and radio ads are more than enough.  Why isn't this against the law?

As to DARLING OF THE DAY, I love the show and the adaptation, but this phone call really has me pissed.

This particular stage door is down a looooong alleyway with signs posted all over saying "RESTRICTED AREA AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY"

Vixdad did suggest walking down and knocking on the door but our good  law-abiding daughter pointed out the signs and said "NO! NO! We might get sued!!!"

Its really too bad.  This day there were just the Vixter, her dad and me, a teenage girl with her dad and a young couple in their early twenties.  Whipped cream on a fried egg sandwich?  I have never heard of this, buit if its full of fat, cholesterol and calories how bad could it be? :D.

Me too!Excellent news!!!  BTW will I be meeting you on the 5th of October?

Goodness! I don't think I've been quoted that much in my entire life! :)

I forgot that you saw the matinee. It is quite possible he was staying in for a nap between shows. The makeup he wears takes nearly 2 hours to put on and 45 minutes to take off. I'm sure he was hiding out in his dressing room. Who could blame him?!

Now, not to disappoint, but - it's not whipped cream on a fried egg sandwich. It's Miracle Whip on a fried egg sandwich. Miracle Whip - the salad dressing with zing!

I will be joining the group for the October 5 frolick. I wouldn't miss it for the world! I've already been approved to have the day off.  And I can't wait to meet the Vixter - she sounds like a neat kid! ;D

Elmore, I mentioned this ages ago, but I have the demo.  Do you know anything about it?  Even Mandelbaum was clueless.  It's an amazingly "big" recording for a demo, full orchestra, good singers.  Which cut number are you talking about?

The stage door to the Majestic is nearly impossible to find. It shares an alleyway with the Golden and (formerly) Royale and is waaaaay back in the corner in the back of the alley. My friend, Julie, was the Christine alternate in the Broadway company for nearly three years and she left something for me at the stage door once. I was a nervous wreck trying to find that damned stage door! Once you find it, though, it's a cinch to find again.

It's too bad Julie's not still in the show - she'd have given you guys a backstage tour. She gave me one when she was touring with the show - it's fascinating! So many exquisite costumes and wigs and set pieces. I was in Heaven.

We have begun NOT to answer the phone these past weeks. We are INNUNDATED with these ridiculous calls. They seem to be the way to go in political campaigns these days. If the machine picks up it usually hangs up although sometimes it will go through and the beginning of a recorded endorsement comes on. At that point, I pick up the phone, press hang up and shut it off. The primary here in New York is tomorrow. If there is no clear winner in a couple of the contests there will be a run off on September 27th which will keep the phone calls coming. Even if there is a clear winner in the mayoral primary, the calls won't stop because the general election is not until November.

And, to answer Vixmom's questions, I do believe Do Not Call exempts political calls. What a surprise  >:(

Regarding Anthony's ankle, I haven't been keeping you up to date.

It's not his ankle, it's a problem called Plantar Fasciitis which has to do with tendons and muscles being stretched. I won't go into details. It is getting better. He began physical therapy today and will be going twice a week for about a month. The ailment is common among dancers and aerobics instructors and other people who are on their feet a lot, especially those people whose feet are in bad shoes and/or meet hard surfaces such as concrete. Anthony was just very active, going from rehearsals and performances of his British Music Hall Show to rehearsals and performances of Forum in Virginia. All that work caught up with him. I'll find out later this afternoon how the first therapy session went.

As a secret surprise for Vixter, you could always write to Mr. Panaro c/o the theatre and request an autographed headshot. I think they still do that - Davis Gaines did when he was doing the role. Or you could ask DR Jose to talk to him - they're buds.

Probably not, it would be just like those sneaky politicians to exempt themselves....

I'm not sure many solicitors are paying attention to the registry any more. I suspect they haven't been taken to court yet. For awhile I was getting no calls, but in the last month or two, I've gotten quite a few, and when I challenge them and remind them about the registry, they always apologize and say they must have an old list or that my name didn't appear on it - all lies, of course.

And my registry registration doesn't expire until 2008 so that's not the problem.

UNBELIEVABLE!  I went to the Dale of Glen, did what I needed, and headed home.  As I approached Laurel Canyon to get off the freeway, the traffic was backed up about a half-mile.  I finally got on the off ramp to find out that the signal was out.  I turned right to go to my mail place and the traffic lights were out on that street also, and the traffic was a madhouse.  I finally got through the intersection and went to the mail place.  I did see someone shooting video footage of the traffic.  I went into the mail place - the electricity was OFF.  The mail guy told me it was off everywhere.  I got my mail, and then turned on the radio in the car and indeed LA suffered a huge power outage, affecting certain areas from downtown LA to Hollywood, to mid-Wilshire to the airport (oh, it didn't affect the airport - I just heard - in other words, the lovely stupid jerk media just said it had without having any facts) to almost the entire southern floor of the Valley, including Burbank, Glendale, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood, and Van Nuys.  No one had a clew as to WHY this happened, although it was traced to two separate DWP facilities, one in Sherman Oaks.  But, I don't understand why it would affect so much of the city - I doubt we'll get a satisfactory response.  What it shows once again, is that there is NO backup system in place for an emergency.

I came home to no electricity.  It finally came on at 2:10.  They're now saying the reason was because a wire may have been cut by a DWP person (a mistake), but I don't believe anything these fools say.

I caught the song; it's about 5 minutes into the soap.  I thought PASSIONS was a piece of crap, but DAYS OF OUR LIVES is equally moronic, from what I saw of it today.  These soaps have the most bizarre mixture of late 20th century values combined with promiscuity, conservative religion, and small town mentality.  Do their writers ever show any signs of being attached to what's really going on in the world?

Susan told me the power went off and then came back on but it was still out in her husband's office.

Apparently the power is coming back on slowly but surely.  Traffic lights are spazzing out from what I'm hearing, and the streets are insane, which means I will not be shipping any packages today.

Do their writers ever show any signs of being attached to what's really going on in the world?

Good heavens, no!  It wouldn't be a soap opera if they did!

Days of Our Lives is the only one I've ever watched at all, and agree it's horrendously silly.  My mother used to watch it when I was a sprig of a twig of a lad, and I now check in for a couple days every few years, after which I find I'm completely caught up on everything that's happened, as it seems an average soap opera day lasts about 3 months in our time. :D  (Also some characters who are now older than me,  yet I remember them being born... hmmm...)

You're right - I guess they're trying to please some demographic that the advertisers have identified as their core audience, but the plots are all a mixture of sanctimonious surfaces and actual promiscuity with every known cliche in the book: folks keeping secrets from loved ones that you know will later blow up in their faces, people walking in on the tail ends of conversations making them suspicious about what's going on, no one ever satisfied with the person they're with and always looking over that next horizon for a "true love."

The first time I saw Ron on THE GUIDING LIGHT, I was doing a show at the New York State Theatre Institute.  I called him and asked "Are you telling me no one on that show is aware the secretary is a man in drag?"  I could spot it at once.

What I really object to is that nearly all the women are either whores or just conniving bitches, everyone out to cut the throat of another to set her ass in a better tub of butter.  No one has safe sex so I wish they'd all die of AIDS.

On PASSIONS, the acting is so pathetic I now believe in an NBC casting couch, and one of its leading ladies is exhibiting broad signs of complete dementia, from wearing a blond wig to get her exboyfriend to impregnate her while thinking she's his wife (!) to enduring rape from a character out of a 30's southern gothic Huey Long character on thebelief that he will get her back with the man who impregnated her!   If this were reality, she'd be either locked up for stalking or for insanity.   And I can't fathom if this is supposed to be viewed as humorous or screwed up!

Does the  "DO NOT CALL " registry cover campaign calls?
Probably not, it would be just like those sneaky politicians to exempt themselves....

Nope, it doesn't cover political calls. I found that out during the Iowa Caucuses. Of course I was making some of those obnoxious calls  :)
Title: Re:Z CRAZY

I'm not sure many solicitors are paying attention to the registry any more. I suspect they haven't been taken to court yet. For awhile I was getting no calls, but in the last month or two, I've gotten quite a few, and when I challenge them and remind them about the registry, they always apologize and say they must have an old list or that my name didn't appear on it - all lies, of course.

And my registry registration doesn't expire until 2008 so that's not the problem.

The list also doesn't apply to anyone you have done business with, or something like that. There are a lot of loopholes.

From the FCC Do Not Call website http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/

The Do-Not-Call registry does not prevent all unwanted calls. It does not cover the following:

calls from organizations with which you have established a business relationship;

calls for which you have given prior written permission;

calls which are not commercial or do not include unsolicited advertisements;

calls by or on behalf of tax-exempt non-profit organizations.

The term “telephone solicitation” does not include calls or messages placed with the consumer’s prior expressed permission, by or on behalf of a tax-exempt non-profit organization, or from a person or organization with whom the consumer has an established business relationship. An established business relationship exists if you have made an inquiry, application, purchase, or transaction regarding products or services offered by the person or entity involved. Generally, you may put an end to that relationship by telling the person or entity not to place any more solicitation calls to your home. Additionally, the established business relationship is only in effect for 18 months after your last business transaction or 3 months after your last inquiry or application. After that, calls placed to you by that person or organization are considered telephone solicitations and will be subject to the do-not-call rules.

From the FTC website http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/dncalrt.htm

Will All Telemarketing Calls Stop If I Register?

29. If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?

No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.

Some BB6 Thoughts:

Since Saturday's veto competition in which Ivette won and celebrated loudly with zero concern for the feelings of her alliance member April, who would necessarily replace her as a nominated houseguest, April has had a major turnabout in her attitude toward the game and the way she has played it.  In effect, she has apologized to Janelle for things she's said and done.  Sharing this with both Maggie and Ivette, I think April and Maggie were as shocked as the rest of us live-feed-watchers to see Ivette nearly go ballistic in self-righteous fury over April daring to imply that anything in the way they played was dirty or wrong.

April spoke only for herself.  But she did tell Ivette that many times in the game, she (April) acted in a way that Ivette mandated the friendship should.  And she said she wished she had consulted her own thoughts and acted accordingly.  (In other words, April is ashamed of having been a sheep).

This has been devastating on Ivette who, despite her raving protests about having nothing to feel bad about, is totally feeling bad and having to face for the first time that she has been a first-rate shit during the entire 10 weeks of the game.  One thing she cannot pretend to understand is why April cannot rejoice for her having won the veto.  April knows Ivette will vote to evict her over Maggie, but Ivette cannot comprehend why April would be hurt by that when Ivette will be advancing.  (In other words, April should be thrilled for Ivette like we all know Ivette would have been thrilled for April had she won).

Maggie, though, is not buying Ivette's wavering on how she played the game.  She continues to console Ivette and to imply that Janelle is and always has been a liar and that she is what is wrong in the house.

Maggie is a pure, evil manipulator.  She doesn't give a damn about Ivette or April except as pawns to get her where she wants to be.

The upshot is that April will not be voting for Ivette and will probably do her best to turn her sequestered partner Jennifer's vote, as well.

Ivette would be better off taking April with her to the final three.  So far as I can tell, Maggie has no support in the sequester house over either April, Ivette or Janelle, but April and Ivette both think Maggie will win it all.

I feel better now.

DR Ron,

Do you think Janelle has a chance if she makes it to the final 2?

Against Maggie, Janelle will have the votes of April, Rachel, Howie and James, for sure.  She will need only four votes.

Once April goes to sequester and talks to Jennifer and James, I think Janell will have those votes against Ivette, as well.

Ivette's only true chance at the money is if she goes to the final two with April.  Then she will have Beau, James, Maggie, Rachel and Howie (both of whom cannot stand April...and won't know of her change of heart if she doesn't go to sequester.  I know Maggie won't tell about it).

Ivette, though, won't play it correctly.  She'll evict April and her shot at the $500K is kaput.

My guess is he thinks he's doing fine.....he got through it.  But MAYBE it has dawned on him that he is letting us ALL down....and the audience DOES know he doesn't know his lines.

I am curious as to his definition of doing fine.  Is "fine" fewer than five minutes of silence as he struggles to remember his next line?

BIG BROTHER TALK.

DR Cillaliz asked if Janelle could win if she makes Final Two.

Against Maggie, Janelle will have the votes of April, Rachel, Howie and James, for sure.  She will need only four votes.

Once April goes to sequester and talks to Jennifer and James, I think Janell will have those votes against Ivette, as well.

I actually disagree.  Yes against Maggie Janelle would have Rachel/Howie/James. But i don't believe she would have April's vote.  In fact April has said that she would vote for Maggie over Janelle.

Quote
Ivette's only true chance at the money is if she goes to the final two with April.  Then she will have Beau, James, Maggie, Rachel and Howie (both of whom cannot stand April...and won't know of her change of heart if she doesn't go to sequester.  I know Maggie won't tell about it).

I think that April vs Ivette would be different than what you said.  Ivette would have beau and james. I don't know who maggie would vote for. But rachel would vote for april. She despises ivette and has said so many times.

Plus there have been hints that there will be some sort of twist at the end. Hopefully america will have at least one jury vote.

The way i see it BB wants a janelle/ivette final.

If it's Ivette/Janelle, I think Ivette would have  Beau, Maggie and James.  Janelle would have April, Howie and Rachael. So the question would be whether April could get Jennifer to vote for Janelle. Not so sure she could do that if Maggie was pulling for Ivette.

Very irritating that the complete song couldn't be heard, but they were too busy having people talking over it, having flashbacks, and storming out of the sanctuary. They even interrupted the song for four minutes of commercials.

The song was nice, I will admit, and I might have liked it more had it been able to have been performed completely.
