Well, you've read the notes, you haven't pontificated whilst reading the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the pontificating cows come home.

Good morning, all!  I missed the Emmy festivities; I finished scoring the chart for Faith Prince, watched LAW & ORDER on NBC and crashed around 10:15.  I realized that I watch so few of the main network programming that I had not much interest in any of it.  I was astounded at 420 posts last night.  Wow!

I have to stop in at the recording office this morning, have a meeting with the Chicago musical director, finish the actual band parts for Faith's chart, and think about what I'm packing for Ohio.  I also have a few cards and a package from  DRDanise to open today.  Thank you for the birthday wishes.

DRTomovoz, the flowers are beautiful! Thank you.  I think you should post the wonderful bear collection and tell the DRs about each and every one.

It's Sixth Street in the East Village for Little India. There is also lots of good Russian and Polish and Eastern European food in the East Village.

Watched the opening number for the Emmys, saw Brad Garrett win his Emmy and then bagged. Like some others have said, I watch so little regular television that it means nothing to me to watch the Emmys. I read more of Ellen Terry's life and went to sleep.

Good Travel Vibes to Larry, even though he's not leaving for a few days.

In doing today's TOD, I used a website that lists the prime time schedules of the major networks throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s (here is the link (http://www.inthe70s.com/).)

I tried to keep my chosen shows in their actual scheduled time.  The night I had the most trouble with was Wednesday.  Aside from St. Elsewhere, I couldn't find shows that I truly liked that fit into any kind of real schedule, particularly the 9:00 to 10:00 slot.  I'll have to play around with it more, I think.

Schedule is subject to change.

Hmm... As for the Topic of the Day...

As long as the following shows are somewhere in the line-up, I'd be happy:

Northern Exposure
thirtysomething
A Year In the Life
Evening at Pops alternating with In Performance at the White House (yes, I know that's technically on PBS)
M*A*S*H*
The Twilight Zone
St. Elsewhere
The Carol Burnett Show

...And that's about all I can think of right now...  Stay tuned...

;)

I missed the Emmys last night,  I was at a parent meeting for the new Youth Group that the vixter joined and didn't get home until after nine.
Vixdad was halfway through a PBS Mystery show Inspector Maguere or something like that, set in England during WWII.  So we watched the rest of that and then I was off to bed

MATTH We love Arrested Development

Our regular viewing is AD, The West Wing, Malcolm in the Middle,  House and The Daily Show.

Other than that we watch a lot of PBS and the History Channel and The Discovery Channel

We don't have HBO we haven't seen any of Rome I trust it will eventually show up on DVD and we'll see it then.

I do think drama has never been better than what's offered on TV right now, but comedies are really lacking. There are very, very few that really measure up to the greats of yesteryear.

I was very happy that LOST won.  But disappointed that DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES lost. I was also surprised that Felicity (from DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) won instead of Teri Hatcher (who i wanted to win).

I cannot believe that Donald Trump won for that song.  In fact I cannot even believe that he performed period.

I loved Ellen's bit with Eva Longoria in the balcony.

And I loved the Blue Man Group skit and that AMAZING RACE won (although why didn't they announce in each show one by one?).

RE the current high quality of TV drama - I went to the Producing for Commercial Theater seminar this past April, and one of the producers on the panel was asked why serious drama is such a hard sell on Broadway today, while musicals are selling well.  His belief was that there is no equivalent for the experience of seeing a musical, and that's why musicals are for the most part thriving.  But as far as drama is concerned, I'm paraphrasing what he said, but the producer on the panel hypothesized that the bridge-and-tunnel people especially feel they can sit at home and watch great drama on TV, so why schlep into the city, pay a babysitter, etc., for a straight play unless something about it (awards, stars) makes it a must-see event.

I'm up, I'm up.

Let's have more TV scheds, please, they're quite enjoyable.

I think when we had the power outage last week that it screwed up all the timers except the lights - the sprinklers now go on three hours later than they should, and the pool pump goes on, well, I don't know WHEN it goes on, but it's at least a couple of hours later than I set it.  I'll have to check it out.

I can also tell you thjat the bridge and tunnel people can justify to themselves the expense of $100 a ticket for a cast of  "thousands" dancing and  singing  spectacular sets and and a full orchestra, but somehow will feel cheated to spend that same $100 to watch 6 actors talking

Vixmom - Good point, about justifying the price of the ticket.  The producers on the panel, however, seemed to feel that - except in rare circumstances, such as a star-driven show or an award-winner - people aren't likely to cough up the $90-100 ticket price for typical plays anyway, since there are so many discounts sent out.  But it seems people will pay top dollar (and premium prices) even to see small casts and minimal production values in the rare case where a nonmusical has become an "event," such as Billy Crystal's one-man show with one set and one person.  And people seem to have no problem paying the high price (even premium prices) for certain musicals with smaller casts and production values, such as AVENUE Q and SPELLING BEE.  They seemed to feel the issue was getting an experience you couldn't get elsewhere, rather than getting your money's worth in terms of how big the show onstage is.

I can't remember if I posted since the live Big Brother show. Yuck.  Very disappointed in the results. Ivette vs Maggot. Yuck, yuck, yuck.  Anyhow I've barely even following the feeds anymore, since I have little interest now that Janelle is gone.  However, the only thing to look forward to is that apparently the jury was vicious towards Maggie and Ivette.

I personally hope Ivette wins, since i like her a bit more than maggie. Plus since she won parts 1 and 3 of HOH (and beat janelle fair and square) i think she deserves it.

One thing I read that Maggie said in the house this weekend made me totally sick.  Ivette told her that if she had kept janelle that most likely the jury would have turned on her.  And do you know what maggie said????  Maggie: "well i never would have forgiven you!".

What a witch!

DR Jose - Are you hinting something about ALL SHOOK UP?  I take it you read the item in Cindy Adams' column today in the NY Post (at the end of her column) regarding someone claiming to have walked in on an "out and out orgy" backstage at ALL SHOOK UP.

Wait?!?!?  I didn't see Cindy Adams there... Oh.. Umm..

Nevermind.

I think I said this last night, but I really can't watch the pro-cop, pro-prosecutor crime dramas today.  They really don't show the crap that the cops and prosecutors pull and make them look like some sort of hero that they really aren't.  I know, it's fiction....and since they can't really do the things they do on tv or solve crimes the way they do on tv, it has helped with juries thinking that there is shoddy police work.. Ok that part is fun.

What ever happened to the hero being the criminal defense lawyer? Perry Mason could rip them to shreds and never have to get past a preliminary hearing.  Could you imagine To Kill A Mockingbird from the prosecutor's point of view.  I shudder to think what that would have been like.

Enough of a rant. I have to get back to work. Later

You mean I'm going to have to register to read that piece of crap (sorry, I'm editorializing here) the NY Post. It's hypocritical, I know. I read it before they required registration, just for the theatre reviews after a show opened, but not for anything else. I guess I'll have to come up with some fake name, etc to see what Miss Adams is talking about.

I very much enjoyed ROME. Very interested in plot events, and characters are becoming more and more interesting.

And for those with an interest, Marc Antony has an outdoor wash with his servant scraping his back and arms, and we see this magnificent specimen of man in the altogether. After having seen several of the ladies of the company in their  beautiful bare magnificence, it's only right that the men get equal time.

The point I was trying to make with DR Cillaliz last night about my surprise over EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND winning Best Comedy Series:

Only three times in the history of the Emmy has a long-running comedy show won Best Comedy Series in its last year of eligibility: THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, and BARNEY MILLER.

GET SMART, TAXI, ALL IN THE FAMILY, MASH, CHEERS, SEINFELD, FRASIER, FRIENDS, SEX AND THE CITY: none of them were able to pull out a win during their final year on the air.

So, the odds were against RAYMOND last night, especially with the year's biggest hit DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and last year's winner ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT as its major competition.

Over the weekend I decided to stop viewing my soap opera on a regular basis. The gay characters have been written off, and the other plots were getting maddeningly repetitive and irritating to watch. I will keep abreast of the stories by reading daily summaries on TVGUIDE.com, and if the gay characters return, I can resume watching via SoapNet.

This should now free up a lot for time for watching DVDs. (And catching up on recorded TV from the previous evening. Tonight, for example, I'll be recording 1 1/2 hours of shows I can't watch at their regular times due to conflicts with simultaneous broadcasts. I'm sure some of this will straighten itself out once I've sampled the new shows and decide which ones will become regular viewing.)

Indeed he does.  He was answering a phone call while he was watering the plants, and that's when I heard his voice.  I was trying to figure out if it was "faded Australian" accent or a "faded New Zealand" accent.  And since I was in Australia just two years ago...  Well, that's what prompted the conversation/question. It turned out to be "slightly faded New Zealand" - he's been in the States for about 12 years now.

To answer your question about the Reality show Emmy, DR Jennifer, the nominees' names were reflected in the various TV screens and by the catch-phrases each host uses when contestants are eliminated. But you had to look closely and listen carefully to catch them all.

I don't think anyone was surprised about THE AMAZING RACE winning its third Emmy.

As requested:
The Bears were very special to Derek (and are to me).

Walter (Valter)   TED (Derek's closest) William (Villiam)

     BJ               Sebastion (Seb)               Jackson
                       (honorary Bear)

Ted was the Bear who knew Derek's secrets and shared so much. He taught himself to use the computer and cell phone early this year and sent me many messages from which I knew far more about Derek's emotional and physical state.  (I don't think Derek ever knew but he did say at times he had found his computer still on or his phone had been missing)

Both Valter and Villiam were gifts from DiT at low times for Derek and Myself. They are close friends and still have Totonto accents.

BJ was a gift from Derek to me when I was hospitalised.

Jackson (Named after Peter) is from new Zealand and is Bj's best friend. (Yes I do wonder).  Jackson, BJ, & Valter had visited Derek's Bears at times. They were very good in the car and did use the seat belts.

Seb looked after and watched over Derek in hospital.
There are other Bears in the  house but these group is so very close.

Derek also had a Disney Hippo (Helga) who created many problems for the Bears. She has gone to live with his sister Maureen where it is expected she will learn more manners and not be as bossy.

I haven't read last night's "Emmy chat", so I don't know what anyone else thought, but I have to just state flat out that Patricia Arquette -- as wonderful as I think she is in "The Medium" -- made one of the worst "awards show appearances" by any actress in recent memory!

That dress and her hair -- gadzooks.  Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

Some people apparently can not only NOT dress themselves, but cannot be trusted to find someone who CAN dress them.

I will give it another chance tonight and will hang around for KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL. I will be recording HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. I'm hoping these two comedies will recapture some of the zing that has been missing from comedies

I truly enjoy ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, but I think it is an acquired taste -- like olives.  I also enjoy(ed) EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND.  The characters remind me so much of people I knew when I lived in New York / New Jersey.  And even when an episode would start out being rather boring, I could usually count on haivng a big smile (or a few tears) on my face by the end of the episode.  I think my favorite episode revolved around everyone thinking that Robert might be gay, but the surprise twist at the end was that it was Raymond who found himself attracted to the UPS delivery guy.  Very funny episode.

Evening all!

Well, I missed Meat Loaf.   I opened the paper at lunch time to find he’s doing a one night only concert over in Clearwater.  Aww well.  I love Meat Loaf but…….. Even with Bonnie, I’m not brave enough to cross the Causeway Bridge, alone, at night.

Lovely pictures of the Bears, DR TomovOz.  No sign of a bunny.  Did he hop away?

I'm making some white rice right now.  I think I'm done doing things for the day.  After all, what did the day do for me that I should keep doing things for the fershluganah day?  I wrote two pages of the new story - feeling my way and trying to get the form and voice right.  I think it will be fun to do, but the beginnings are always hard, just like the last story took me about a week to get the first couple of pages right.

HAH!

Where are "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel"?

True enough.  Guess I just meant I wasn't including anything from the 60s and very little 70s.  Only 3 current shows made my cut... and West Wing is sadly well past its prime.  What can I say?  I'm a picky viewer.

7-9   a movie or switch out with some other shows like Buck Rogers, Night Stalker, The Outer Limits, The 4400, Lost, Dark Shadows, Cusade, The other Star Trek Shows, etc, etc, etc.

9-11   I’d be in bed so it wouldn’t matter anyway!   ;) ;D

Stages,  and Harvey Schmidt arrived Saturday at work, but I wasn't there. So I got them tonight.

Stages brings back fond memories of when by chance I found the LP at Sam the Record Man in Montreal. It was one of my favorite show LPs. I remember when I was at McGill U, I try to get it produced at Player's Theater. But I tried to track Bruce Kimmel to get permission. I called Varese and they could help. I called LACC theater dept and they couldn;t help. Then I tried the phone books. No luck. But it turned out that 20 years later I finally did track down Bruce Kimmel, but by then I was no longer at McGill.

I am really enjoying it and it sounds great.

I do have a question.
What exactly did Robert Armin do with the digital restoration?

Robert did the digital cleanup on the four tracks we had to take from the LP.  The album masters and the second reel of multitracks were missing.

Just got word that Joel Hirshhorn has died.  Joel and partner Al Kasha wrote The Morning After and We May Never Love Like This Again, as well as many other songs.  I really liked him very much.  I had lunch with him and Al and we talked about doing an album of their songs, but I hadn't started the new label yet and it just sort of slipped by the wayside.  I saw him last year when he came to What If and wrote a splendid review for Variety.

And I just read an interview with him on the Towering Inferno tribute site. It seemed that the guy who put it together didn't like the song and thought it was lame. Joel had read this and contacted him. He ended up doing an interview with him.

I just received this joke in an e-mail from my ex-boyfriend (we're still very good friends :)).  Anyway, I think it's funny:

Subject:  Two Blond Guys

It's not too often that you hear a joke about blond guys...

Two blond guys were working for the city works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in.

They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one guy digging a hole, the other guy filling it in again.

An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting into your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"

The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-man team. But today the guy who plants the trees called in sick."

After KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL went off, I played HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER from the DVR which comes on at the same time.

I cannot stand TWO AND A HALF MEN, so I will substitute this show in the 9 o'clock slot each week.

Again, some witty banter between friends, but for a comedy show that has gotten the second largest critical acceptance (EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS is far and away the critics' darling this year), I found it a trifle disappointing. Maybe I simply over-expected. I'll be interested to see where this goes over the next weeks.

Funny that the comedy show I enjoyed the most tonight got the worst critical reaction - OUT OF PRACTICE with Stockard Channing, Henry Winkler, and Jennifer Tilly.

It was created by Joe Keenan and CHristopher Lloyd who were greatly responsible for FRASIER's success, and the show has much of the same witty vibe with sibling rivalry, a dad who's girl crazy, etc. Maybe I just like this style of comedy or maybe I'm just used to it, but I really laughed out loud several times and found it lots of fun.

I understand that two of the leading actors on ROME (Purefoy and the centurion whose name escapes me) are in the gay British comedy BEDROOMS & HALLWAYS. I will pull this off the shelf over the next couple of days and check them out. I watched it a couple of years ago but have very little memory of it other than one of the characters who is gay begins sleeping with a woman and then becomes conflicted as to his sexual orientation. I'll have more to say when I watch it again.

"Mother & Son" is available on DVD here in OZ but it is the wrong region unless you have a mulitzone player.
I have not checked Amazon but it may also be available in NTSC format. Many PAL format TV shows from the UK are available in the USA in NTSC so there is a chance.
I've never really understood why mutizone is not everywhere as it is in OZ and was with VCRs as well.

Thoughts on BB6

Well, Tuesday night is the end. I am not pleased that it is Maggie and Ivette, but I do have to laugh that for weeks the "Friendship" has said they have the jury....but in reality they don't.  It will be up to Janelle, Rachelle, Howie and James to determine who wins. The others only have Jennifer, April and Beau.

I actually hope Ivette wins.  As nasty as she has been at times, she has played the game. Maggie has sort of coasted and just used threats to get this far.  I really don't like her at all.

I did love that the jury questions were tough on both of them and they finally realized that people don't believe the two of them belong in the final two. On the other hand, they made it to the final two.

So, I will be cheering for Ivette tomorrow night. John at Canoe picks Maggie, but I'm just not so sure about that.

I somehow skipped a page when I came back on, I just saw your posts about the bears Tomovoz.  It made me want to reach out and hug you.

Thank you for sharing.

Derek would have said that the  bears make his loss more "bearable". They don't. It just enables us to cope in a different way. I am big fan of HUGS.

Yes, it was Jennifer Tilly as the mistress. Is she going to be a regular or just a recurring character? That's a lot of big name talent.

My favorite was the plastic surgeon brother who was clueless that he was a turn-off to the ladies. Very funny.

Good Evening!

And it truly was a Good Evening!

DR elmore, the birthday boy, regaled DR Jason and myself with some wonderful stories and some scandalous gossip.  Alas, no cake, but maybe we can all have cake once the HHW gang is in town in a few weeks.  Sounds like a plan to me!

Time for me to head toward the bedroom, too.

Hope everyone enjoys their evenings/mornings.

Good night, all.

After we left La Cocina, Jason and I made our way down to Splash.  On 15th.  Oops, I meant 17th.

*However, while we were aimlessly wandering around, we did brainstorm an idea for a new musical.  By this time next year, we'll be on Broadway!  -And most likely only run one performance - if that - due to all the cease and desist orders we'll most likely receive from various licensing houses and composer's estates.  Watch this space for updates... and requests for bail.

Back from a sparkling evening with DRs Jose and Elmore. (And thank you both for listening to me rant about my job. I hope you don't think I'm one of 'those' actor types that one should never date!!)

Jose and I ran into my friends Jared and TJ at Splash, so we enjoyed many videos of the musical theatre sort, including my first encounter with the Tony performance from DREAMGIRLS, over which I was so excited I nearly peed my pants. It truly was a fun time - even though I hate bars - so thanks to DR Jose for getting me out and getting my mind off my poopy day at work. :)

And now to install my *new* Zoo Tycoon 2. Woohoo!!

"...And I am telling you...I'm not going!"

Oh... Where was I!?!?

Well, Splash was a lot of fun.  And it was DR Jason's first time there too!  And it turned out that a couple of friends were there too.  -And I ended up being a hero in their eyes since I had somehow managed to get Jason to go out to a bar!  ;)

We saw Liza.  We saw Barbra.  We saw Idina and Kristin.  We saw Lillias White.  We even saw Scott Bakula and Alison Fraser.  On the video screens that is.

And DR Jason finally fulfilled a dream of his.  He got to see the Tony tape of the Act One finale of Dreamgirls with Jennifer Holliday and company doin' their thang.

We left around 11:00 both a little hoarse from all the screaming and singing along, and a little deaf from the volume of the music.  But we had a great time.

And we didn't even have to wait that long for a train once we got to Union Square!  -And when I walked over to Columbus Circle from 57th, I only had about a minute wait for a D train back uptown.  Express!!

I am most distressed. I installed my new Zoo Tycoon 2 and now it's telling me I can't play it because my computer doesn't have sufficient memory...?? Apparently the game requires 256 MB and my computer only has 128. Whatever that means.

What do I do?? I know I can buy more memory, but how much will it cost me??

Well,  I went and voted in the WGA presidential election tonight which coincided with the annual membership meeting.  It was very poorly attended.  I wasn't going to stay for the meeting, but as I was sneaking out of it, I got waylaid by Ted Elliott who is running for president (and for whom I voted), and is a chum of mine (Ted and his partner Terry Rossio wrote Aladdin, Shrek, The Mask of Zorro, and Pirates of the Carribean, to name a few).  As we were gabbing, the very short membership meeting broke up.  As I was about to leave,  Dan Petrie (Beverly Hills Cop), the current president of the WGA asked if I want to join them for a drink at Kate Mantalini's restaurant across the street.  By them he meant him, Ted, and Carl Gottleib (Jaws) the current vice-president and currently running for re-election ( I also voted for Carl).  So I did, effectively killing the entire evening schmoozing with the hierarchy of the guild.  we also ate...though I have never much cared for the grub at Kate Mantalini's  (apparently, it is owned by the same people who have an interest in Hamburger Hamlet).  My drink was the ubiquitous diet coke.

IIRC, memory is rather cheap now.  So...

Just take down the model number of your computer and/or find out what type of memory modules it uses.  *If you don't have that info readily available, you should be able to go to your manufacturer's website, punch in a few details, and find out what type.  Then start looking at compusa.com, amazon.com, etc. to get a ballpark.  Some 256MB chips can run as low as $40.

DRJASON you also might try getting rid of a few programs you don't use!  That could get rid of a few hundred MB.

There are certain menu items I like at Kate Mantilini, but otherwise I find it a trendy and dreary place, where the hosts don't care about their customers.
