Well, I've read the notes, have you?  If you have then you, like me, know what you need to do.  Let's also discuss the meal I had last night.  Let's start writing right now and post until the cows come home.

I notice that by the time I arrive back here in the morning there could well be a celebrity GOD. I do hope our house is in order as it would be most unseemly for gods to be bitch slapped.

A few weeks before I get to see LOTR TT Michael. I hope the extra footage is worth the wait. Are you awake very late or very early?

Pictures of DR Andrea in her dancing costume.  Lots of news from DRJose - Panni on the street (I always blame it in new glasses) - and tons more stuff!  Whew what a lot of posts we have!  ::)

SORDID LIVES has some funny bits and interesting performances, but certainly betrays its stage origins.  I did laugh at it!  Some of the performances are a bit clumsy, however - but Bonnie Bedelia does a very nice job.

In my CD player: Forever Plaid, Gypsy (soundtrack), Doris Day  & Andre Previn Duet.  ;D

In my DVD player: Horrors of the Black Museum.  In the vcr:
I Was a Teenage Frankenstein and I Was a Teenage Werewolf.  Yes I am having a Herman Cohen festival! :P

On the phonograph:  The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse score by Mr Andre Previn.  His later score for Dead Ringer has some of the same "feel" - but I think this is my favorite score of his, along with Valley of the Dolls done of course with Dory.  ;)

I was up very early when I did my first post. I woke up and had a little trouble falling asleep. Read BK blog and then did some more reading was able to get some more sleep. This is roughly the same time I post Monday-Friday.

To answer your question about TT Extended Version I would have to say yes and the extra material or extended scenes really doesn't (at least to me) added on. I wasn't disappointed.

Looking forward to watching it again, the documentaries and also watching Once Upon a Time In the West for the second time.

I am officially back from Cleveland. I just finished reading yesterday's notes. I will have to wait until tomorrow or Sunday for Wednesday's notes (far to many to work through in one sitting).

Welcome back Panni.

I love the Rankin Bass specials, especially Rudolph (I felt a kinship with Herbie) and I love A Charlie Brown Christmas.

There were so many messages I can't remember everything you all talked about in my abscence. I just know that Miss Jennifer does not need to post more (I saw that comment, my little pretty, you can't hide yourself in old notes   ;)).

When you put a close parens (I'm such an editor) next to a smiley insert it looks very strange because the smiley is inserted as the left parens and it looks like you have too many of them.

I have nothing in nothing (like DR Kerry last week). I must spend the day writing my report about my work in Cleveland and I must submit my expense report, including the two days I spent in a hotel that borders on the line of low-cost and dump. Anyone contemplating a trip to Cleveland should avoid the Comfort Inn Downtown Cleveland at 18th and Euclid. It's not worth the low price.

I'll probably listen to something during the day. I'll be back later. And next week, a short week at the office, will probably be light work-wise so I may be able to post aplenty before the Thanksgiving holiday which then leads to time off work, volunteering at Broadway Cares making gift bags for people with AIDS and then my long-awaited Christmas vacation which will lead to an extended period of errant and truant behavior and it will give my rival ( ;)) Miss Jennifer yet another change to achieve God/Goddess/Queen/Ruler of All That is Important at HHW, etc. status before moi.

Au revoir, abientot, later gaters.

Oh, yes, thanks for any and all good thoughts for my work in Cleveland. The presentations were successful and I came back happy and fulfilled, even if my flight out of Akron/Canton Airport (cheaper than flying into Cleveland) was delayed for one hour due to excess air traffic at LaGuardia.

Sorry for the delay in posting.  I was ironing Dear Wife Joy's pants before she went to work.

In my youth, I stood up to bullies and railed against their mistreatment.  At some point, I just got tired of fighting.  Now, I'm criticized (here and there) for NOT standing up to morons and cretins and giving them what for.  But I did so much of that when I was younger, I feel I've done more than my share.

The two CDs come from around the world.  First, there's the 2003 Scotland production of Murder at the Savoy, or, Pulley of the Yard (Gee, I wonder who wrote THAT?) and then there's something from New Zealand called the Robbie Ellis hybrid.  Mr. Ellis was perspicacious enough to ask for a copy of my 2000 musical, Area 51 and included his own CD in the return package.

Today I'm going to tell my college students why they shouldn't be doing Eurotrash songs.  More later.

Looks like a glorious weekend ahead here in the South with temperatures in the 70s for the weekend. Of course, I'll spend a lot of it inside watching movies and television.  :)

Media check:

CD - THE VERY BEST OF THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS

DVD - THE HAUNTING (yes, I'm finally getting to it! I finish the boxed set of the 5th season of FRIENDS and then on to Robert Wise's wonderful film)

VHS - last night's WILL & GRACE and SCRUBS. I'm also feeling like watching one of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple TV shows, perhaps MURDER AT THE VICARAGE.

You guys crack me up everytime!

I have been ordered back to work today, ending my one day strike.  It appears that I may be an essential service - who knew? ;)

Luckily my father was driving downtown today, so he was nice enough to give me a lift.  Unfortunately he had to stop before getting me to McGill because of a strike/protest happening outside a hotel near here.  I had to walk through the crowds which always gives me the heebie jeebies.

The one and only time I have ever had a panic attack was when I was swallowed by a protest a couple of years ago.  It was arguing to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory (a cause which I support which makes my reaction all that more weird) and I just started shaking and feeling my throat closing up.

Ever since, I can not be near protests without getting all panicky again.

But now I am drinking a nice cup of Tim Hortons' coffee... so I might just live.  :)

Other News/Responses:

Jrand, your pic is dee-lite-ful :)

Ben, am I the only person who LOOOVES how in A Charlie Brown Christmas, the kids' mouths as they sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing are perfect "O"s?  :o

Has anyone noticed how Skippy has been e and t ever since we gave him that wonderful nickname?  Coincidence?  I think not... :)

My Audio-Visual Pleasures of the Week:

CD discman: Zanna Don't which today replaced Avenue Q.  God, I love both of these cast albums so much!

REAL Player: "Popular" and "Defying Gravity" from Wicked which I think I have played at least 8 billion times each.

DVD Home: Finding Nemo

DVD Sister's House: Lord of the Rings the Two Towers

CD - An Australian classical singer whose first name I forget but whose last name is something like Brockelhurst - He sings opera and operetta arias and other classical solos and is excellent

DVD - Most recently watched JACQUES BREL and will try to find time for LOST IN THE STARS next

VHS - Nothing

********

I was thinking yesterday what a varied site we have when in one paragraph BK can discus both Cyndi Lauper and Federico Fellini.

********

I noticed an ad in the Times today for Goodspeed's A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN and discovered that the lead is being played by HHW's very own Remy Zaken.  Also in the cast is Deven "Batboy" May.  I wish there was a train or bus from NYC to Goodspeed but there is no way of getting there without a car.

I had NO idea you couldn't get from NYC to Goodspeed on a train or bus. Really! I just assumed people could hop on a train and be there in 45 minutes. Shows what I know!

BTW (By the way in internet lingo), I've never been to Goodspeed. FOr those who have, can you tell some of your experiences there. I know the theaters aren't huge. How are the sight lines? Acoustics? I'm really curious about it since I've heard about it for so many years.

Good morning early H/Ks....and good morning to esteemed, steamy, frothilicious BK --

Like DR Kerry, the past week has been pretty busy, between work and new "parenting" duties with Sugar.

CD -- part of the wonderful McGlinn recordings of "Babes In Arms," "Swingtime," and "Showboat."

DVD -- got to watch a couple more episodes of season 4 of The Sopranos.

Cassette -- part of several wonderful compilation cassettes that DR Kerry has put together over the years.  Pieces of music, snippets of dialogue from films and TV show, all woven in a uniquely "Kerry" tapestry.

:-[  DARN YOU ALL TO HECK, Dear Reader Ben!  I was gonna do the "I am the walrus" thingy, then you went and did it.  Tarnation!

DVD: Ferris Bueller's Day Off ("So THAT'S how it is in their family!")

VHS: Harold Lloyd stuff

CD: Les Paul and Mary Ford (Greatest Hits)

I feel like wakka-cha-wakka-cha-wow guitar music should be playing in the background when I look at Jrand's picture.  Also, looking at it makes me feel kinda funny, I can't explain how...but I feel like it's something I should confide to an adult I can trust.

I had the coolest thing happen to me last night.  One of my students (I do private tutoring...in ENGLISH, you pervs, get your minds out of the gutter) gave me a completely unexpected card and gift!  The gift was a little candle with stuff on it about how good teachers impart wisdom, vision, inspiration, etc.   ;D  This is a 17-year-old boy...not really known as a group for sentimentality.  How cool is that??

Have a good day, everyone.

DR Noel - is your AREA 51 a UFO musical or am I confusing my areas?

You're in the right area, although no UFO lands during the show.  Area 51 - The Musical is about the secret government laboratory underneath the Nevada desert where stuff that falls from outer space is taken for examination.  This includes aliens in glass tanks who like nothing better than to sing background doo-wop vocals.  Also under the ground is an evil insurgent organization that performs a floor show (it's not far from Las Vegas) and steals scientists from Area 51 by shooting in a ray of negativity.  Every number in it is a comedy song.

My computer keeps disconnecting from the internet... as if SOMEBODY doesn't want the truth about Area 51 to get out!  (There's a lot of singing and dancing down there.)

DR Ben --  My condolences on your recent trip to Cleveland.  I had to fly in and out of there last Thursday (on a trip to Erie, PA) , and it was the night of the storm/tornado stuff in that area.  My connecting flights were all cancelled, and I had to stay in a hotel that night, and go out the next morning.

I know some very nice people in that area, but the place itself is pretty low on the "pretty city" scale to me.

Will you and Ant stay in the city for Thanksgiving. or go out to L.I. ?

Thanks DR Noel - hmmmmmmmmm......interesting.  Let me think about this awhile.  I may be passing AREA 51 information along to someone if that is all right. :D

DR MATTH - I think this is Annette's Kansas City photo - in other words, she's gone about as fer as she kin go, so don't fret or worry.  :P

So many wonderful postings and viewings and listenings.  I took my GYPSY CD and compiled the Rosalind Russell work tracks followed by the soundtrack cut with Lisa Kirk - and the result is very interesting.  Rosalind Russell was so beautiful - and of course she left her hospital bed after a mastectomy to come in for the recordings and was just a few months into recovery when she filmed the movie.  ::)

And her Hildy Johnson in His Girl Friday is definitive working girl film acting.  8)

DR Lulu  --  I loved all of the wonderful stuff in your post;  I also admire a lot of Harold Lloyd's work, and I've been lucky enough to get to know his granddaughter, and also restore the pipe organ in his Benedict Canyon estate "Greenacres."

I still think that Les Paul was a very talented musician, who used the medium of recording like no one else had up to that time.  I have emulated some of his multi-track, overlay techniques over the years.

And having a 17 year old boy write you a kind and sensitive note.......well, let's just say that a number of people would trade places with you.  And of course, I mean that in a very caring way, of course!

 ;)

By the way, please tell me the name of the person's picture on your post?  I think I know, but I don't trust my eyes with a fairly small picture.

DR MBarnum, my favorite Shirley is "You've Got to S-M-I-L-E" from STOWAWAY. It was usued infamously under the main credits (and end credits) for MYRA BRECKINRIDGE, but it's such a great little song. I also like most of the ones she does in LITTLE MISS BROADWAY and "I Love to Walk in the Rain" from JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

The usual suspects for her "Animal Crackers" and "Good Ship" I've heard too much to enjoy any more.

And regarding yesterdays posts about karma, I just have to chime in on the subject. Doesn't bother me one iota if people talk about karma, getting karma, giving karma, or being upset about losing karma. I have joked about it on several occasions myself and certainly never dreamed it would upset anyone  :o

But then, I also like using smilies and talking about reality shows!!

Frankly I usually never notice how much karma I have anyway...until yesterday when I got a case of karma envy!  ;)

Anyway, I think that when some of the DRs have rallied to give another DR karma it was sort of like giving hugs to that person. And I think that is rather thoughtful. However, your mileage may vary.

Ok, my rant is over now lets party!

Oh, I sit here trying to write a report about my trip. Since I talked to everyone involved it seems to be redundant, but I must do what I must do. And since it will take probably a day to distill and write, it keeps me from other greenbar printouts that need some work (nothing high priority luckily). It also means that I can take a couple more breaks than usual and surf over here to check out our eriudite and informative membership.

Matt, I think that my favorite of the Shirley Temple's is STAND UP AND CHEER, which has some great songs in it, although the majority of them are not sung by Shirley. But you do have John Boles, Dick (Nick) Foran, and even Aunt Jemima!

I do very much enjoy Shirley's earliest films like BABY TAKE A BOW and THE LITTLEST REBEL.

Ah, the "joys" of sinuses!  UGH!

Well, I allowed myself to sleep in - and I even think I slept through both alarms - which I didn't turn off last night before heading to bed.  I have to spend a good chunk of time today going through a box of odds and ends - and ends and odds - that I've accumulated over the past few weeks - things that I've been too busy to really concentrate on and sort through: mail, bills, cards, bills, invitations, bills, pictures, bills... oh, and bills!  -You get the picture.  I'm pretty sure I'm up to date on everything - thanks to being able to pay everything over the internet lately - and I'm hoping I don't find an errant and truant slip at the bottom of the box.  -Wow, that was quite the run-on sentence.  Other than that, I just have the show tonight - Press Opening followed by another party.   :)

Now let's what this does... Hmm....

COOL!

Well, I also need to head to CVS and pick up some Tylenol Sinus - I think part of this "stuff" is from all the usual theatre dust - and the fact that part of set dressing consists of real tree branches.

As for the weekly media check... ask me next week... Everytime I've gone back to Richmond that past few Mondays, the same pile of DVDs has been sitting next to my DVD player, and the pile of CDs yet to be played continues to grow - damn those Buy 1-Get 3 Free + Free Shipping sales from BMG.  *It's amazing what you can find on there if you do some creative searching.  But I did go over to a friend's house a few weeks and watched the new DVD of "What's Up Doc?"... Still makes me laugh, and I don't think I had watched it since I've become an "adult" - I think the last time I saw it was a network TV presentation sometime in the mid-80s!  At least now I can appreciate Ryan O'Neal in those white boxer shorts.  -Oh, that's right, this a family site...  ;D

-And now if I can just figure out how to upload my pic... I keep getting the "image is too large" error.

Ah, well...

I just looked at my avatar (that sounds like a guru of some kind). We're standing in front of the very pool table in Long Island where that picture was taken. Perhaps in honor of that, Anthony and I will play pool over the Turkey Day holiday. We also have many tapes to watch, including Relative Values (DR Francois, I'll let you know what I think), Harry Potter 2, Ant may want to catch up on his Will and Grace (there are three episodes he hasn't seen), I taped Cleopatra (I think it's either 1913 or 1923) from Turner this past Sunday, plus we have another couple of silents from Turner taped a few months ago, one I think is called The Blue Kimono and the other is about the automobile. We will also raid the Long Island library looking for varied and sundried CDs that pique our interest.

Yes, I love Les Paul and Mary Ford's stuff.  Hap-hap-happy time music. :)

The tiny picture accompanying my posts is, as Jrand noticed, Joey Heatherton, '60s starlet and kook.

Jrand: Actually, I was referring to your STEAM photo in my earlier post.   But my comments could sorta make sense regarding the Annette (that IS Annette, right?) photo, too.

I do not like the ANGLE of that photo.

I received the following query and I'm hoping one of you can find the answer so I can pass it along:

Do you know if there is a recording of “Overture to West Side Story, Adapted for Symphony Orchestra by Maurice Peress?

Has anyone misunderstood the nature of soup lately?  I sometimes misunderstand the nature of people - for example, this morning I found out a little something that baffled me but good.  Perhaps I'll share it with you later, for I must ready myself for the work environment.

If our esteemed BK were not already a Global Moderator he would most certainly sometime today attain the status of HHW God as he approaches his own 500th post (though with years of Notes posting he has certainly passed that mark and many more).

Nick Redman, Julie Kirgo, DR Jay, DR MusicGuy, DR Jose, and, of course, BK.

Yes, MR BK, you must share with us.

A NOT exhaustive internet search does NOT reveal a version of the WSS overture arranged or conducted by Mr Peress, although a couple of selections from the show conducted by him appear on a Sony Classical, CD.  Maybe the Peress is somewhere in the morass not to be confused with Jerome Moross.

Oh, okay, DR Lulu - I was commenting on your comment on the wrong picture when you were commenting on the other picture not the picture I was commenting on your comment on.  Indiana State Department of Redundancy Department.  8)

I love this site; I really do.

You know how it's said, in so many ways, that men are always measuring their . . . apparatus - against other men's?  You know what I mean.  And that's never said as if it's a positive thing.  So I guess a lot of people agree that the mania for pulling out yardsticks (in my case) or centimeter-sticks (in yours) is some sort of societal blight.

We've fallen into a trap, here at Haines His Way, in that we have too many methods of measurement.  So people carp that their karma is down, or that they'll never catch up to the Gods, or that we've more posts than that-there-site that claims to have more posts than it has.  Measurements, measurements, measurements!

When you think about what it is you love about Haines His Way (and I do), what comes to mind are the witty and trenchant things BK and others say about their lives, about shows they've seen and things they've done.  Are the "measurement" posts anybody's favorite posts?  I doubt it.

And I'm sorry if it seems I'm complaining too much.  I don't complain nearly as often as X and certainly less often than Y and Z has so many posts she should KISS MY ASS
Title: Re:I AM THE STEAM MAN
Post by: Lulu on November 21, 2003, 08:56:31 AM
Hmmmm...I hope dear reader Noel didn't think I was inordinately interested in "measuring" anything.  I just don't know what the karma is supposed to mean, or why those numbers by it are changing for me, and was curious.  Didn't know I was stumbling into a hotbed of controversy.   ;)

Earlier BK wrote: "Dear reader Jane forced me to eat the entirety of the whipped cream – she forced me I tell you."

Bruce, falsehood in defense of self-weakness is never attractive.  In an early morning phone call with my Dear Reader Jane, she convincingly described a Himalayan-size serving of whipped cream on top of that apple-thingy you had for dessert last night.  Further, she was adamant that she, Dear Reader Jay, other diners, and various restaurant personnel attempted to stop you REPEATEDLY from devouring the artery clogging adornment—but to no avail.

In future postings describing meals where witnesses are present, it might be advantageous (as in I-was-not-in-control-of-myself) to feign progressive glaucoma or temporary, insidious gluttony when recounting culinary events.

Sincerely yours,
Dear Reader Jane's husband

Good morning, one and all!  Happy Friday.  Damn, I sound like I am in a good mood.  Well, why not?  The snow is mostly gone (although it is chilly), it is Friday, next week there are only three work days followed by a four day weekend, and tomorrow is the day for the greatest rivalry in college sports (Okay, in Washington State) the Apple Cup.

In all my CD players (car, living room, office):  Gene Pitney, Gene Pitney, and even more Gene Pitney.  Yes, my friends, a plethora of Gene Pitney thanks to everyone’s favorite Aussie.

In my video recorder:  Nothing at the moment.  It stands empty in anticipation of a Betty Hutton interview and movie, which I am expecting to receive any day from yet another generous Kimlet whose name sounds very much like a character from Dallas.

DVD Player:  After yesterday's discussion regarding Christmas films, I stopped at the electronics store to pick up a couple of seasonal hits.  Instead I walked out with U-571, which I have never seen; and The Ghost and Mr Chicken, which I haven't seen since I was in training pants (I was 17).

Turns out Anthony already saw the Cleopatra from 1913. He watched on Long Island on Sunday. He said it's basically a filmed version of a play about Cleopatra. It was filmed in NYC. Thanks for the review Ben. I had meant to tape that when it was on, but forgot. I am thinking I didn't miss too much. But it does remind me that I need to open and watch my DVD of THE LIFE AND PASSION OF JESUS CHRIST which is a silent movie from 1905 and it also has a 1912 religious film on it as well. DR MATT you were talking about Bette and Susan and Joey in Where Love Has Gone - which is a fun movie - but for my $$$$.....another actress who can match Susan word for word is Vera Miles in Back Street.

When Vera as Liz bids $10,000 for rae (Susan's) high fashion wedding dress and then says:  "Charge it to Mrs Paul Saxon and send it to MISS Rae Smith!")  Everybody should see this movie!

Susan even has one outfit (courtesy Jean Louis) that matches the drapes in her living room!

Standing by for DVD playage:  "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" -- deluxe collector's edition with 40 extra minutes of footage, 6.1 DTS, and tons more!

On my VHS:  "Justine" (20th-Fox-1969, dir: G. Cukor, prod. Pandro S. Berman).  The first time I've seen this film and it's gorgeous (taped off Fox Movie Channel in widescreen stereo for me by a friend);  I've watched the first 44 minutes, so I'm not really sure where it's going (if it does go anywhere).  It was terribly ambitious, but the critics weren't kind.

Ready for my CD:  "The Blue Bird" -- original score by Alfred Newman, digitally mastered.

In my CD player at work:  The Boy From Oz with Hugh Jackman and Jarrod Emick.  A friend of mine worked with Jarrod when Jarrod was about twelve years old!

In my CD player at home:  nothing.   :'(  I was looking for two CDs of mine and I haven't been able to find them.  One was a Dame Enda Everage solo CD (to get me in the mood for "All the Queen's Men" and BK's "The Stephen Sondheim Album" also with Dame Edna.  I'm totally depressed about not being able to find them.  I've looked in every place in my apartment where I know I have CDs stashed.  I guess this means I REALLY have to clean my apartment to be able to find those CDs.  I hate that.

Survivor:  Having watched last night's show, after what Jennifer was telling us last week about what would happen, I am now "off" watching it.  If the results cannot be kept private and people can tell you what's "going to happen," then the show is compromised and I'm no longer interested.

As you can see, I'm still avoiding work. I'm writing things down and doing some typing and then writing some more, etc. I will probably do the largest portion of this report on Monday (after I do some desk clean up - far too many printouts have taken refuge here and need to find other places to reside).

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]SURVIVOR TALK[/move]
Survivor:  Having watched last night's show, after what Jennifer was telling us last week about what would happen, I am now "off" watching it.  If the results cannot be kept private and people can tell you what's "going to happen," then the show is compromised and I'm no longer interested.

Lill IS a sad, pathetic little gnome.

I really have no idea where John from CANOE gets his info. But I know how reliable he was for BB, so I tend to believe some of what he says for Survivor.

While he obviously has some good info, he clearly does not know exactly what will happen. He definitely has not seen the tapes, because he always prefaces his guesses with, "if so and so doesn't win immunity". Immunity really can change the game completely.

Plus I think what happened last night was obvious and inevitable. The Big Ox had become too strong and it was clear from last week's show what was being planned.

Btw, does anyone else dislike when they have challenges where you can choose who doesn't win. To me the point of immunity should be that everyone has a fair chance to win it. Last night's blowtorch thingie and last week's challenge, let players take out other players.

And btw2, does anyone else think Sandra is an idiot. She voted for John. Why? If Rupert had been correct and Burton and John had teamed with D and T. Then it would have been 4 to 4. Except that stupid Sandra's vote would have made it 4 to 3. Gosh I almost wish it had happened that way.

Right now I love Burton. Although I wonder if the 2 evicted players have a real chance with the jury.

Just back from my WONDERFUL lunch date with three of the loveliest girls in New York City (one of whom is the Christine Alternate in B'way's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), and I had a ball (oh! An Ethel Merman reference!) Benihana is soooo tasty...I had the chicken/shrimp/steak combo with fried rice and I ate every single scrap of food on my plate. It was amazing, but now I smell like Hibachi, and that's not good. I'll have to shower and change (again) before the theatre tonight.

In my CD player: CHILDREN OF EDEN, GYPSY (London & Movie)

DVD: Nothing. I'm still waiting for a movie from NetFlix... :-\

VCR: Nada. Zip. Nothing.

Must run to the bank now to deposit my paycheck from the Met and my birthday check from Grandmama (yes, it came today--hooray!)

I understand there has been an understudy Galinda for the last few days.

Since BK brought it up, I think Mr. Jackson believes he is innocent and it all depends on just where you draw the line between an innocent sleepover and molestation.  However the person who is guilty of a crime is the alleged victim's doctor who broke doctor/patient confidentiality.  He can lose his license.

Actually no, Bill.  The laws were changed in California, and several other states including Washington State.  The law now requires mandatory reporting by State employees, teachers, and health care workers any time information is obtained involving sexual abuse, physical abuse, or neglect.  The doctor could have received a large fine had it later been found that he knew of this abuse and did not report it.

Good afternoon all.  My this site is busy today!
Welcome back to DR Lulu!  We missed you!

Topic Of The Day stuff -
CD player - nothing at the moment
DVD - Finding Nemo
VHS - God only knows...haven't looked in there in a while

I agree with DR Noel...this absurd obession around here with measurments can get tiring at times.  I'm all for a little friendly competition, and I admit I like seeing my status change from Jr Member to Full Member and stuff like that, but racing to get ahead of other Dear Readers can get old fast.  A vanity post once in a while is okay, especially when one is very close to a milestone, but tons of tiny little posts just to boost numbers...not so cool.  We must have quality before quantity, I say!
Again, this is NOT ment to attack or criticize any HHW folk...just putting in my two cents.  Or maybe three cents, with inflation...

Well, just checking in before leaving for the theatre...  I want to get there early tonight to do some "cleaning" of the violin books - I'm more or less the orchestra librarian for this show.  I actually kind of like it... Sometimes it's literally like putting together a puzzle.

-What a nice number of posts to catch up on since I was last on.  And I did go through my box of "stuff", and found only one bill that may end up being late - we'll see how kind the mail gods are to me this weekend.  -I also had to ask myself, "Have I really been to Williams-Sonoma that many times in just the past two weeks?"   :-X

Well, I'm off... See you after the show...  And the party...

DR Ron, did George Cukor replace some other director in JUSTINE, and that's why it's not too good. If I remember correctly, it was not his project originally but only a takeover from someone else.

After original director Joseph Strick wrapped on his stunningly beautiful location work in Alexandria, Strick departed, the production shut down, and then Cukor was brought on board.  Cukor did all the studio shooting, which encompassed much of the storyline.  It's Cukor's work that is so interesting in the film (and it blends seamlessly with Strick's location work)...I'm thinking the trouble was the adapted screenplay.  The cast was slap happy with Cukor and his visual eye lights up the screen.  I have no idea why Strick was dropped...or why he left.  He may have gotten sacked with help from Ms. Aimee whom I understand was very difficult on the film.

Something else came to my attention last night.  As much I really liked Michael York at that time, especially in "Cabaret" a few years later, his narration isn't very effective in the opening.  Something about his voice grated on me....and I began thinking how it would have been if someone like Guinnesss or Gielgud or Olivier had done the narration.  Sometimes, I cannot understand what York is saying, and he also uses a lot of mannerisms I found charming in "Cabaret" which now seem like affectations after seeing "Justine" and "Something for Everyone."

Oh, well...!

180 posts by 1:30 - I have to believe that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet, and that we already are the envy of these other sites who like to brag that they have 800 posts a day when the real fact is that sometimes they have 10% or 20% of that figure.  I wish I could lose 10 or 20% of MY figure, but that is another story, especially when one is FORCED to eat whipped cream.

Forcing a doctor to report what a patient told him or her is awful.  Are priests now forced to tell what they learned in confession?   What about a lawyer whose client has told him in confidence that he is actually guilty? Doing away with doctor/patient confidentiality in any situation is just one more step in the errosion of our basic rights.  With doctors forced to report what they were told in confidence Big Brother is definitely watching you.

"After the show, it's the afterparty and...after the party it's the hotel lobby and...after the lobby it's up to the be-"

I have to stop because this is a family site. Kind of ironic seeing as I am the only minor who posts here, yet I'm having to be careful.

IT'S FRIDAY! I love Fridays, even though I'm working from 5-10 tonight. I hate the thought of GOING to work, but once I get there, I don't mind it.

In my CD player is The All-American Rejects CD. I know, it doesn't exactly fit in with the genre of CD's that YOU all are listening to, but I must act like a sixteen year old SOMETIME.

In the DVD player is LOTR II, but I haven't watched it yet. Baby steps: Take off the plastic, Open the case, Take DVD out...

In the VCR is 10 Things I Hate About You. Yet another 16 year old moment. I'm feeling my age today, what can I say?

If anyone has tips on factoring, they would be GREATLY appreciated, as apparently I was supposed to learn how in 8th grade, and that never happened. If I don't learn how soon, I shall have more low grades in Algebra, and then I'll never be able to come back to HHW. (Some people's eyes just lit up ;))

I LOVE that picture that Jose posted. I love seeing the faces of people from this site, because on the old site, I developed images of what people look like. Sometimes I'm dead on, other times I'm completely 100% in the other direction.

Eh...time for work.

Today:
In my portable CD player is the "Rocky IV" soundtrack, which I like to use at the gym.  I can't run without pumping music, and I HATE LOATHE AND DESPISE techno.

I'm with Ann and my husband on the vanity post issue.  It's hard to enough to keep up with the goings on here during my limited breaks and "free time" at home, but scrolling through pages and pages of one-word posts and "10 more to go!" posts makes it a million times more difficult.  I'm a believer in freedom of speech, so I'm not trying to tread on anyone's expression -- you're free to post whatever you want, keeping within the site guidelines.  Just keep in mind that it makes being a member here much more work and less fun when you have to spend so much time wading through this stuff.

Again, no offense intended and I'm not trying to berate anyone...and I hate that I have to add that disclaimer...but it's just my opinion.  Who am I, the post police all of a sudden?

Yesterday:
How I deal with jerks and cretins, ideally, is to act as a container for their bitching and moaning, to listen to what they are truly saying underneath their venom, and to not take it personally.  I listen, then I consider and admit anything I might have done wrong to contribute to their problem.  Then I immediately start working toward a solution to the problem.

Ideally.  ;)

I liked her in Good Neighbor Sam and The Bonnie Parker Story in addition to her BIG flicks, IAMMMMW and That Darn Cat are also favorites.

And I still play her Warner Albums of 1920's songs.

Don't be a martyr.  Tell her and the other coworker, at the same time, that she should have consulted you on it first, and you can't afford to pay an extra $15 that you didn't agree to pay.  Tell her that if she had consulted you first, you might have agreed to chip in, but for a less expensive option; and that she will have to pay your share herself, as it is not fair to force the other coworker to pay for her (the kiss-ass') mistake.   If she gives you any trouble, remind her that it was inconsiderate and thoughtless of her to assume that you had $15 to throw around.  Then send your boss a card.

I'm going to have to pay the bill... it would suck to make the other assistant who KNEW about the present, voiced her objections and then agreed to paid relunctantly get a even larger slice of the chunk.  Plus she supposedly put my name on the card.  Sigh.

$15 is 5% of my pay for this month!  I think I may have to ask for cash for Christmas... if only so I can actually afford gifts for other people! :(

When you pay her, tell her NEVER EVER to do anything like that again.  She had NO RIGHT to do this and you owe her NOTHING.  how dare she presume to spend your money!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose, Bill, that the lawyer would only have to report it if the child said he was guilty while he was being abused.

I am truly sorry that you find it a violation of your civil rights to have innocent children be protected from being raped and beaten by adults.  Frankly, I am rather surprised.

There are something like five non-temp employees working for the organization:

1)The Supreme Boss in T.O. with her 2)Research Assistant
3) The Communications Coordinator (aka the new girl) and (4+5)two communications assistants (of which I am one)

This would have made it very weird if the flowers were sent and my name wasn't there.

I understand wanting to be nice, especially since it's a smallish group (although we are NOT on very good terms with the Toronto dynamic duo), but I still wish I had been asked.  The other problem is that while the three Montrealers work generally as one group, the Coordinator is more "senior" than we assistants and the new girl is technically my supervisor.  Telling her to shove it might not be the best idea.

I think that what is really eating me up is that MY 20th birthday was three weeks ago and, with references being made many times prior to it by my fellow assistant, I still got nothing - not even a "Happy Birthday" from the Coordinator.  The assistant, who makes far less the coordinator not only came to my birthday dinner but also got me a card and a present.

I hate office politics.

I'm throwing in my 2¢ also.  I agree with Joy.  You should not have to pay for a gift that you didn't even know about.  $15 may seem like small change to them, but if it's 5% of your entire pay, that's a chunk o' change!  If, however, you feel that you have to pay, maybe you could explain that $15 is more than you could afford, but could contribute a lesser amount...maybe $5 or $7.

Frankly, TCB, I'm very surprised at your take on this!

Civil Rights violations and First Amendment rights are being violated willy nilly.

Who's to say what is truly going on in this case?  Doctors have been known to lie in court and out of court if there was the possibility of money.  Despite the media's claims, there is a heck of a lot we DON'T know about this case.

I would have bet money that you, of all people here, would appreciate due process UNDER THE LAW and the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven.

What's next? Illegal home invasion?  Wiretapping confessionals?

Of course no one condones rape and beating of ANYONE, much less children.

But the erosion of civil rights MUST be viewed with great alarm by all American citizens.  Lord knows, we still haven't realized the worst from The Patriot Act yet.

I'm no fan of MJ...hate seeing his face on TV every time he feels the need for attention...and even more now when it's THE ONLY THING ON THE NEWS!  My gut instinct is that "this time, they've got him"!  And if he's guilty, he needs to go to prison and pay like anyone else.

I've heard a lot of talk radio about this and it's amazing what I've been hearing...and most of it spurred by the speculative yellow journalism -- a shameful practice that has become the NORM iin TV newscasts, cable news channels (Fox News is the all-time champ for below-the-belt journalism).

It's up to the Court and a jury to decide...not us by virtue of the media circus clamor and din.

To whom can a child turn? Their rights should be paramount and be protected. The right to freedom surely has obligations. The disclosure of the accused's name to the public and the presumption of innocence are not at issue. No-one is questioning those matters - it is the "confidentiality" breach in protecting the child - if a child is abused by its parents should not the teacher or doctor with this information not be able to take steps to protect the victim. The press does not need to know. Those of us who work with (or have worked with) children who have suffered so much from the behavior of adults certainly see the issues with different eyes.

DR Emily: I have been reading all the posts about your predicament. I agree that it was very inconsiderate of your co-worker to expect you to pay without consulting you.  This is sort of an extension of yesterday's "how do you deal with bad behavior" topic.

I think it would be weird if you didn't pay, even though you were not consulted. But I think it is important that no matter what you do, that you at least explain to this woman that what she did was wrong. If you don't, she will continue to do it.  Plus I think you should also tell her that you are a student, and you don't have much money. And that by her doing this, she is causing you a hardship.  I'll bet she has no idea that what she did was not nice.

Has anyone misunderstood the nature of soup lately?  I sometimes misunderstand the nature of people - for example, this morning I found out a little something that baffled me but good.  Perhaps I'll share it with you later, for I must ready myself for the work environment.

I've been wondering about this most of the day, BK!

What did you find out that baffled you?  Was it something to do with tiramisu?  That tiramisu might have been invented as a soup of some kind?

I look at the word and see "tira", and I it reminds me of "tier" (aka Layer), and I see "misu" and it reminds me of soup...and so I come up with "soupy layer."

But no tiramisu I've ever had actually had a soupiness...it was more like a banana pudding without bananas...and with chocolate.

So...please alleviate our anxiety and share this baffling thing you discovered this morning!

You are surprised at my take on this?  You would have bet that I of all people...?  Ron, do you have any idea what I do for a living?  I work for Children's Protective Services for the State of Washington.  I am one of those mandatory reporters that is required by law to report any incident of abuse.  And I am grateful for the protection under the law.  From my office alone, I could take and stack the case records of proven abuse against children by parents, babysitters, coaches, neighbors, etc.; and that stack would be, at least, as tall as a three story building.  And that is just one office, in one city , in one state, out of fifty states.  That is a disgusing amount of abuse.

No where did I say that I favored the rights of the media, illegal home invasions, or wiretapping.  Not did I once say anything about anyone being found guilty without a trial or in the court of public opinion. I was talking about allegations of abuse, not guilt.  Please don't try to slant my views or put words into my mouth.  I was responding only to Bill's comment that the doctor should lose his license for reporting these accusations to the authorities.  I could care less about Michael Jackson, the LA. Times, or the National Enquirer.  I care about the right of a child to be safe from abuse from anyone, and the right to have an adult listen to him and believe him when he tries to tell someone, anyone, that he is a victim of this kind of abuse.

Okay, break's over.

Bruce, you're right.

I'm at work and I now have to clean the staff kitchen.  Everyone on staff has to sign up and clean it, usually no more than twice a year, and now it's my time.  I hate to clean it.  I hardly ever use it.  I hardly ever even clean my own kitchen...why in the world would I want to clean someone else's kitchen?  Oh, the humanity!  :o

Re: the Jackson case.  The Doctor did not break doctor/patient confidentality.  My wife is a therapist she, like all in her business and doctors and certain others have "a mandated duty" to report any cases of abuse or ongoing violence.  The therapist is the hero of this case, for my money.  The Jackson camp keeps trying to turn this into some sort of spurned parent shake-down case, but the facts I heard was the kid was being teased by his schoolmates about being friends with Jackson, the mother took him to the shrink, the shrink heard the allegations and did his duty and reported it to the police and DA's office.  They got the story from the therapist, not the mom or the kid...and let us not forget that they also spent 13 hours roaming around the guy's house...I suspect they have some pretty good corroborating evidence.  I'm tired of everybody forgiving Michael because "he's just a child in a man's body".  If the ordinary 45-year-old plumber from down the street had plastic surgery until it ravaged his face into some sort of cartoon fright mask where his nose keeps falling off and then asked if your kid could come to his place and have a sleep-over, you'd be aghast!  Time Wacko Jacko grew up and entered the real world.  I'm sure there are plenty of folk who'll want to "sleep-over" with him in prison.

The question is, and WAS asked yesterday: why "decent" parents would let their child be entertained overnight by Michael Jackson?

Aren't the parents RESPONSIBLE in that case too?
And do they have to lose common sense because their child is invited by someone RICH and FAMOUS?

I don't think DOWN WITH LOVE was shot in Cinemascope. I think it was shot in Panavision, but I could check the credits in VARIETY to be sure. I('ll do that in a minute.

I have been meaning to re-watch JFK myself for the last several days, and I just never seen to get around to it. Looks like I'm going to be here for most of the evening, so I guess it'll have to be tomorrow afternoon and evening for it. Now to go check DOWN WITH LOVE.

DR William Lurie, no one is more vehemently opposed to Mr. Ashcroft and his Patriot Act.  But I do not see where it is an erosion of our civil liberties by making a "mandate reporter" report situations of ongoing violence or abuse...or frankly, for me, impending violence.  So let me ask you, hypothetically, if you were a lawyer and you knew a client of yours was going to commit a murder would you honour client/lawyer privilege and let an innocent be murdered? Those who let evil thrive are  a part of the evil.  Doctors and therapists and social workers have probably saved many lives of battered women and children by getting them out explosive situations where they ultimately might have been killed.

And to answer your question, YES!  Under similar circumstances, I think priests should have to break confidentality as well...mostly against themselves. We've seen the litany of seething corruption and broken lives, thanks to  the tacit vow of silence that goes on within the Catholic hierarchy.  Next to Ashcroft, I think Cardinal Roger Mahoney the most evil man in America.

DR Francois,

I agree.  Parents are culpable too.  As I said, if it was just your average forty-five year-old-slub from down the street inviting a kid on a sleep-over at his house,  parents would be calling the cops.  The seduction of wealth and celebrity makes parents pimp their kids.

While I often believe where there is smoke there likely is fire, the fact of the matter is that MJ will be tried in the press long before his case enters a courtroom.  Well, not the press, exactly, but the media.  I waver between the questions of  whether he could ever get a fair trial--whatever the venue--and whether this will be another in a series of celebrity cases where a mega-million dollar attorney apparently finds a way to steer a jury away from a conclusion based on evidence.

My pleasure. I'm an aspect ratio junkie anyway. I really am interested in knowing that stuff, and, for example,  I badger HBO for showing Panavision movies on their high definition channel panned and scanned. What I don't understand, and what they won't tell me, is why they are so inconsistent about it. Sometimes, they'll show it properly matted in high definition, but more often than not, they don't, and it makes me FURIOUS.

I won't even go into the Michael Jackson argument except to ask the DRs if anyone saw the brilliant LAW & ORDER episode which featured a celebrity who dangled his baby out of a hotel window, and was found out to be a pedophile who was paying off a victim's family, so that the victim's sibling could receive cancer treatment? ? ?

I love D. Provine and am happy to see her getting her due here at haineshisway.com.  I'm getting my do here at haineshisway.com and my do looks dooliscious.

I'm happy to see that despite the disparate opinions expressed that, while those opinions are written strongly, we, unlike other sites, have not resorted to name-calling and bashing.  Which is why I love you people large.  Thank you for showing restraint and just stating your positions.  My position is sitting.  I like it very much, for I am sitting in my home environment.  Let's keep these excellent posts coming, shall we?

Finally, there is no more heinous thing than child abuse.  Children only deserve good.  They deserve to be children.  That's one of the reasons I get so annoyed with "role models" like Britney Spears and the way the advertisers in this country try to promote things to young people that are totally inappropriate.  Miss Spears knows her fan base is mostly young pre-teen and just post-teen girls.  She cannot be so stupid as to not know the image she presents.

Mr. Kimmel and I were having an interesting conversation last week while munching on prime rib about the strange dichotomy of parents today who seem to gleefully encourage the sexualization of their children, allowing them to tart up in clothing that's provocative and revealing and allowing them to watch inappropriate movies and TV (and sometimes do more that just "allow".  But become the one to actually "do" the sexualization of their children.  Jon Benet and her overwrought make-up and dress and "cuchi-cuchi" moves come to mind), and then these same parents are the first to get outraged and find it inconceivable when some child gets molested by a sexual predator.  When you encourage your child at an inappropriate age to become a sexual object how can you be surprised when he/she is suddenly perceived that way?  Very scary!

Awwwwwwwwww.....Jerry Herman always dresses so well....and he looks like he's having a great time!  How is he in the studio?  Does he know a lot about the technical side....or is he mostly a music person?  Ditto Mr Sondheim?

Alphabetical by author, always.  In my play section, the plays are by author, but the musicals are by title.  I shall now eat something and then return with more photos, so don't go away.

Neither Mr. Herman or Mr. Sondheim know anything about the technical side.  They both trusted me to produce the album.  They occasionally had comments about a performance and then I would usually go give the note.  Here's more books on the opposite side of the room - note the DVDs in the lower shelves - I ran out of room in the den.

Waitressing hurts your lower body very much. I feel like I have just run 5 miles! I need a masseuse to make me feel better...BK, feel like shipping yours over here for a day?

I suppose I'll give you a "child's" point of view on the MJ/abuse thing. I am incredibly glad and thankful that the shrink reported the abuse. Kids are repeatedly told to tell things like that to adults they trust. Teachers, counselors, parents, neighbors, family, doctors, etc., all put themselves into the position to deal with stuff like that. And believe me, kids don't just TELL these things. It takes a lot of courage and trust. That boy was smart to tell the shrink about the abuse, and I'm proud of him for doing it. But once it's off of the child's shoulders, that "chosen" adult has the HUGE responsibility of making the right decision. While it may seem like their rights are being abused, would you rather the shrink have kept the information to themselves, and the abuse continued? (Please note that this is rhetorical, and I'm not directing it towards anyone.) While I don't love the fact that the media is sucking this up (We should expect the made-for-TV movie in a few days), the fact that MJ is being charged is a small step towards justice for the poor kid.

I'm echoing BK's sentiments about how we can discuss things like this and still keep our minds open. You all have such great opinions and beliefs about these things, it makes for very interesting reading.

BK: LOVE the pictures! You have quite the collection! If only I knew what half of that stuff was. ;)

Emily: Sometimes, people suck. Just smile, and walk away knowing that you are the better person.

Do you know what bothers me? People who come in to sit down for dinner 10 minutes before you close, and order the biggest thing on the menu that requires the most work. And then they take 50 minutes to eat. ERG! But my very nice friend who works at Starbucks next door was thoughtful enough to bring me a Caramel Frap, so in the midst of my tired anger, I had a bright moment. He's great.

How were your days?

TCB: I know every word to 10 Things I Hate About You. Heath Ledger! *drool* Oh and I love your job. People like you are so important.

DR Sarah - Being a wait-person has got to be one of the hardest jobs in the WORLD!  And I know people, they think as long as they get in the door before closing, they can do as they please....my years in retail taught me that.

My good thoughts are coming your way!

And you know, sometimes I think Media Interest is mistaken for Public Interest.  There are a lot of things in the media that they are rabid to write about, but I don't read the stories or watch the TV shows....

Speaking of scared, I was just attempting to scan and post the cover of "Losing My Mind" (Liza with The Pet Shop Boys). It is too dark. The interpretation of Mr Sondheim's song is scary. I have always tried to be nice to waiters and waitresses because I know it's a tough, fairly thankless job, one that I wouldn't ever want to do, so I try to make it nicer and easier for those who are doing it by not being extra demanding or overly critical. If I'm displeased with service, I display it in the tip rather than make a scene. Of course, if the service is great, the tip will reflect that, too.

I want to publically thank Joy for her very kind e-mail.  It came at a very helpful time, right as I got back from the emergency ward.

That, it turned out, was the only place a total newcomer in town could turn to for fast help with my clinical depression, and what could have been a nightmare occasion proved to be a great help, with many joyful faces and positive attitudes.  Yes, you read that right, joyful and positive in an emergency ward, and on a Friday evening at that!  The psychiatrist I talked to even went so far as to recommend my getting to a gay bar more often (non-alchoholic stuff in my glass only) as a way of socializing and meeting and just being around people.  Add the right medication (non-alchoholic stuff in my glass only) and I should be back on the right track (a Schwartz ref, I believe).

Fortunately, der Brucer is flying back on Monday, recognizing that finding me the necessary support network (other than himself) takes a priority this time.  I cannot say how much I love that man.  He's courageous, and generous, and pretty woofy for a fellow in his sixties!

Again, thanks to you, Joy, and to everyone else.

I still think she was TERRIFIC in DUET FOR ONE and that film did not get the recognition it deserved, mainly "thanks" to Orion...

This is truly one of the neglected gems of the decade in which it was made.
Dame Julie bravely takes on this role, and rolls with the punches it entails, fortunately, MGM released it on video tape (in one of those huge, over-sized well-like boxes) and that tape has been a part of my permanent collection since i found it at a "going out of business" sale.
DUET FOR ONE also features a nice turn by a then-unknown Liam Neesom.

Back from WONDERFUL TOWN, which was, to be very cliche, wonderful! I think perhaps Donna will win her third Tony, stealing it away from Kristi Chenoweth. Honestly, because Kristi and Idina are in the same category for the same show, I think they'll cancel each other out, so--ready or not! here comes DONNA, who really worked it tonight. She was hilarious, and IN TUNE! PRAISE TO BUDDAH! If you get the chance, go see it.

I've been reading the debates about should or shouldn't therapists/doctors/teachers/whatever have tell the authorities of suspected abuse. I say ABSOLUTELY THEY SHOULD. Child abuse prevention and recovery is a very personal issue for me. It may be difficult for people to understand, but just because they're your parents doesn't mean they're easy to talk to. There's an incredible amount of shame and confusion, fear and paranoia that goes along with being an abused child, and sharing that with your parents or any other family member is very scary--there's the constant fear that they will judge you or blame you for what has happened to you. As an adult, one might say that's ludicrous--a parent wouldn't EVER judge or blame their own child--but to a scared 10 year old who is already feeling lost and totally isolated, the fear of losing your parent's love is paralyzing. I think that's why so many people DON'T tell, but perhaps if they had another adult--someone they trusted but someone who is also completely detached from the family--someone they knew would take the appropriate steps to stop the monster who is terrorizing them--then maybe there'd be a chance of stopping these parasites and get them behind bars.

As for the parents...I can't understand why you would allow your children to even step foot into the home of a man who has a "reputation" without constant supervision, let alone allow them to be alone in a room with him. I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, but there is a point where appropriate behavior must be upheld over everything else--even money and fame. It is inappropriate for a 40-year old man to have young children staying the night at his home as his guests, and it is even more inappropriate to sleep in the same bed with them, whether anything sexual is happening or not. It is also inappropriate to dangle your child out of a window, but for some reason it was overlooked--called a "mistake" and let go. Will the same thing happen in this case? I hope not.

Perhaps he's innocent--I hope, for the kid's sake--that he is. Mr. Jackson needs to realize that the world is constantly watching him. He has a great responsiblity to his family, his fans, and himself, and I am truly baffled that people don't understand why he's being accused of child molestation.  I would certainly be suspicious if my kid said they slept in the same bed with ANY 40-year old man who was not a member of his family. His inappropriate behavior has come back to bite him in the ass, and whether he's found guilty of molesting that boy or not, I feel that he's brought all of this on himself. Some complain that even if he's found innocent after all of this that his name will forever be tarnished. Well, he should have thought of that BEFORE he started sharing a bed with 10-year old children. I don't feel at all sorry for him.

No, Jrand53, i hadn't BUT I have now....

Oh, i remember watching it so many years ago; Les Arpents Verts, in French...

Now, I hope I'm not wrong if I say that the mother of one of the main two characters, I believe it was Zsa Zsa's "mother", was portrayed by that great Disney character voice Eleanor Audley -- Cinderella's stepmother and Malificent...

I do believe we might just be on our way to our second best day ever.  If we can only puuuush.  In the meantime, here's another photo.  I have had basically every poster ever made on Mr. Fellini's The White Sheik, one of my all-time favorite films.  The huge Italian from the original release was very nice but HUGE.  The smaller Italian was still really large and had awful art.  Then I found this reissue poster from 1960.  Normally, I wouldn't even have a reissue poster in my house, but this is the absolute best art on The White Sheik and I love it.

Being an adventurous soul, I tried slog (kidney beans, cheese, croutons, and ranch dressing) on her recommendation a few months ago and actually found it rather enjoyable.  Chips from frosting I found ok, but probably not worth repeating.  Floop I won't be trying... don't like beets.

WOW!  I leave for about six hours, and SEVEN more pages of notes!  Now that's postin'!!

Good show tonight... One down.... FOUR more to go this weekend... And I would actually like to head up to NYC on Monday for the day, but since we have a Noon show on Tuesday, I should use the day to rest...  We'll see...

Tonight's reception was very nice.  Good food, again, and they had "adult" beverages tonight  :)  It's just too bad that we have a double tomorrow, or we all could have partied till the wee hours.  Alas, most of us started heading home around midnight.  But we all did get a good hour of fun, food and socializing.  My parents and some of the friends came tonight too, and it was nice that they got to see me conduct at the end of the show.   ;D

As for the Michael Jackson case... Did anyone else hear the commentary by Dand Rather over CBS radio the other day?  Even he suspects that the news media will get to a point where it will report anything and everything regarding this case.  -If it hasn't already.  He reminded "everyone" that we still have a conflict in the Middle East going on, that there is still a threat of terrorism worldwide, etc...  And that Michael Jackson, right now, is a citizen - like us - who has been accused of committing a crime.  Innocent until proven guilty.  Let the judicial system try him.  And not the press.  We'll see...

DR Jason:  So nice to hear that Donna was in tune.  I remember when I saw The King & I revival, a gentleman at intermission was asking/telling the sound guy at the back of the house that "she should take some lessons to learn how to sing on pitch".  And, I had to agree.. she was particularly pitchy that night.  Now when I saw her in Passion - and I saw her/it five times - I never noticed a pitch problem.  However, I did have a few friends who were "amazed" at her pitchiness in that show.  In any case.... I just hope Wonderful Town is able to attract an audience.  I just want to see it for the FULL orchestra - on stage no less!  I hope to catch it in January when I'm up there.

-And great news about the WVPT gig!

[move=right,scroll,8,transparent,100%]GOOD VIBES!  GOOD VIBES!  GOOD VIBES![/move]

Well, since I have a matinee in 12 hours, I guess I better get to bed.

Oh... but I do have some pics to pass on...

Glad  I waited for the photos Jose. Freddo Frogs and my favourite composer. And the news is that Assassins will start previews in March or April.

That was Melbourne, Australia.  At the end of my Chocolate Tour.  We had dessert at the Performing Arts Center.  The design on the plate represents the structure on top of the center.  See below...

Reading the posting at Home Theater Forum. People are either real anal or sh*t disturber when it comes to watching films. Can't they just enjoy them films? I don't mind when someone asks a legitimate question about a transfer but to bitch and nick pick about the most minute thing is really annoying since the average viewer really doesn't care

Some of those people are total idiots - I've gotten into it with several of them.  When they started picking at the Finding Nemo disc I just had to speak up strongly.

Holy moley on rye and blow me over with a Cadillac if we haven't had our second best day ever and by quite a large margin.  Hoo and ray and you've got at least another half-hour before I open the new notes and posts.

Actually, that's a courtesy I would appreciate.  I was expressing MY views. I never ONCE attributed any of those things to you.

By all means, these things should be reported.  Not to the press, however, and not to TV stations.  It encourages mob mentality and rush to judgement.

I do hope everyone remembers the McMartin Day Care case.  A mother, her son and co-workers were all accused and convicted of abuse of children, sexually, and involving them in satanic rites.

Professionals were brought in and interviewed the children and Surprise! Surprise!  They all concluded, based on the professional evidence they gathered, that the children were all abused.

There was nothing to be gained by ruining the McMartins.  They had no money.

Strangely enough, though, conviction by conviction, the entire case began crumbling based on something startling:  Those professionals had coerced the children into making accusations.  The entire line of questioning was to suggest to the children that something happened and then to ask them if that isn't exactly what happened.  And when the children said, "No, nothing like that happened," these professionals kept prodding them to admit that they did happen.  And wanting to be good little boys and girls, they did just like they were told and AGREED.

My take on all this is that, thus far, no proof has been provided.  It's all "he said-he said."  My personal  feeling is that he probably did it.  I wouldn't make the jury pool. I could say I'd be openminded to the facts, but that wouldn't cut it.

No, I had no idea what your job was.  In your line of work, I'm sure you have horror stories, and I don't doubt for a second that you have case files that would make thinking men weep.

In my former life, my career was journalism, and ethics in journalism was my specialty.  Sadly, ethics in journalism are nearly non-existent, which is why we have this horrendous media circus.

Hmmm... now after all that cheesecake, I want to post some beefcake... but since this is a family site, I'll just post a pic of some family.. This is me with my niece and nephew, Alyssa and John Michael.  When John Michael was born, he resembled my baby pics more than his father - my brother.  And some people still think he's my son when we go out.  -It's kind of fun.  Great kid.  Smart too.

DR Ann - Yes they are cute!  :)

And John Michael is also very "knowing" - He even asked me last summer when my friend Michael came by the house, "Is he your new man?"  Stunned is just the tip of the iceberg!  :D

DR Ann - Well, he just turned five, so he was four...  I was also "stunned" when we were watching some TV show, and he turned to me  and said, "That's one handsome man."... Hmm... Spending too much time with Uncle Jojo? LOL!

LOL!  That's great...
I take care of a little boy, just turned five on Tuesday.  He shocked me one day when I was playing the piano for him and his brother to dance to.  Just random little melodies, but as I went toward the upper octaves he stopped and said "No no, don't play up there!"  "Why not?"  "Those are the GIRL notes! Play down here!" he banged on the lower three octaves.  "Those are the BOY notes down there..."
I honestly could not think of a response...
