DR MBarnum - Remember, it's "CarnEgie", not "CarnAgie". -You-know-who would have never made that mistake.
I spy a Jose. If you feel like riding a Ferry for two hours and/or grabbing some brunch give me a call in the next few minutes or so!
So Jose, what are the MUST SEE places in Central Park?
NEW YORK - Playwright August Wilson, whose epic 10-play cycle chronicling the black experience in 20th-century America included such landmark dramas as “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” died Sunday of liver cancer, a family spokeswoman said. He was 60.
Wilson died at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, surrounded by his family, said Dena Levitin, Wilson’s personal assistant. The playwright had disclosed in late August that his illness was inoperable and he had only a few months to live.
“We’ve lost a great writer, I think the greatest writer that our generation has seen and I’ve lost a dear, dear friend and collaborator,” said Kenny Leon, who directed the Broadway production of “Gem of the Ocean” as well as Wilson’s most recent play, “Radio Golf,” which just concluded a run in Los Angeles.
Leon said Wilson’s work, “encompasses all the strength and power that theater has to offer. I feel an incredible sense of responsibility on walking how he would want us to walk and delivering his work.”
Wilson’s plays were big, often sprawling and poetic, dealing primarily with the effects of slavery on succeeding generations of black Americans: from turn-of-century characters who could remember the Civil War to a prosperous middle class at the end of the century who had forgotten the past.
Wilson’s astonishing creation, which took more than 20 years to complete, was remarkable not only for his commitment to a certain structure — one play for each decade — but for the quality of the writing. It was a unique achievement in American drama. Not even Eugene O’Neill, who authored the masterpiece “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” accomplished such a monumental effort.
During that time, Wilson received the best-play Tony Award for “Fences,” plus best-play Tony nominations for six of his other plays, the Pulitzer Prize for both “Fences” and “The Piano Lesson,” and a record seven New York Drama Critics’ Circle prizes.
Ok, must now fill out a few postal cards and then walk the streets of New York foraging for food. See some of you tonight at Barrymore's!!
Finally! I will get to meet the ever-lovin' DR MBarnum tonight! Have fun on the ferry.
Just remember... He's mine, mine, MINE!!!
:o
:P
Jose: Jared and TJ may end up being at Splash again tonight. What a coinkydink, huh? I told them to look for us if they do show up.
Cool! And one of my "friends" may be meeting us there tonight too.
:)
*And I suspect we'll be quite the motley crew when we enter Splash. I mean, as soon as DR MBarnum enters, I'm sure the sound system will go silent, all heads will turn, and...
;D
The alarm woke me out of a deep sleep this morning since to me it was 4:00. By 8:00 I was at the NIH. Since then I have only had one of my appoints and am waiting for my exam with tests the rest of the day. If only I had know they were going to change my schedule I could have slept another hour.
I'm at the computer in the waiting room of the clinic. While here I saw a friend I made last year. We now have plans to meet in DC (I'm out 2 hours before she is) to go to the WWII War Memorial and have dinner.
Time to go
...And we met you and the vixdad when you came to see Penny Orloff's show back in March...
...And you handled the closing on our house...
Hmmm... Still no FedEx package... And the company manager I'm supposed to hear back from today has yet to call me back. And she always calls me back. Hmm...
Do you have the tracking number?
II spy a Jose. If you feel like riding a Ferry for two hours and/or grabbing some brunch give me a call in the next few minutes or so!
Vixmom: The Vixter has some sparkling prizes awaiting her tomorrow...I hope she'll enjoy them.
In sunnier news... The weather report for Wednesday is now calling for temps in the upper 70s and lower 70s, with partly cloudy skies. Should be a very nice day for a walk, dontcha think?
So Jose, what are the MUST SEE places in Central Park?
In days of yore, unaccompanied men used to find pleasure in The Rambles. (Or so I'm told ::)So I am assuming that's a "DON'T SEE" for 2 and 1/2 women?
der Brucer
MATTH, it's a only day's drive to join us- you can do your chores early, set the DVR and walk in comfort
C'mon, be spontaneous!! :D
And here I sit waiting for my lunch companion to pick me up. I'm getting hungry, made even more so by watching Wallace munch away on his sandwich! :D
So I am assuming that's a "DON'T SEE" for 2 and 1/2 women?
I suspect that "today" it would be fine. I was refering to the "days of yore" - for an idea see the movie "Cruising".
der Brucer
Someday I'll write my NYC adventures book:
...abandoned piers on the Hudson, meatpacking house basements converted to private clubs, black-towel nights with opera stars at the Continental Baths...
Subsequent volumes could be generated on San Franciso, London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Munich and Berlin
All will be published by Unseemly Press

I'm pretty sure the vixter AND vixmom did not need to know that bit of history.
;)
Well the Vixter certainly doesn't!! ::)
AS for der Brucer's exploits I hear they're written on the subway walls and tenement halls
Since Vicky is 12 and just starting to be allowed on the internet She is being strictly warned about sharing personal information and meeting people that you only "met" online etc etc etc
I DID NOT MEET YOU ONLINE
(ok I am a hypocrite, but a protective mom hypocrite)
You were introduced to me by my longtime friend William Orr, or by mutual friends introduced to me by Bill Orr.
Someday I'll write my NYC adventures book:

I think you're complicating the issue.
Woody and I have known Jose before, and are journeying to NYC to take a walk with him and his friends; that you and I also post to the same internet site is incidental. Our personal meeting is faciliatated by mutual friends all of whom have met others in various combinations.
(This presumes, however, that Woody and I don't waylay you as we pass an alley, and turn you over to the white slavers we have prearranged to be present in said alley - a short ride to the piers, a neat tuck into a container, and by morning you can be on your way to many new foreign adventures!)
Oh you Republicans, so dang conservative and uptight ;)
At the very least, we can blame it on our youth. Lordy! I hope you weren't one of those nameless men I chanced to meet.
The Anvil. . . :o
I prefer not to open that door and I am asking you to please respect my wishes.
Of course, we shall be meeting for the first time!yes, through mutual friends. :)
der brucer (guess I'll have to cancel the white-slave traders)

No more issues. Complicated or otherwise. OK?
:-*
DR Jose: With whom shall we be relaxing?
...And I guess that means we won't be taking that "detour" through Chinatown either... DRATS!!!
;D
So sad to be all alone in the world.what am I, chopped liver?
Will it be a Phan-tastic suprise guest?
what am I, chopped liver?
Finally! I will get to meet the ever-lovin' DR MBarnum tonight! Have fun on the ferry.
Free food is always good.
Mr. Piano sir, should we be purchasing metro cards?
Free beans?
DR vixmom - If the surprise was Mr. Panaro, trust me, you would have been the first to know.
However, since there is definitely one DR who knows what the surprise, I shall let that DR spill the beans...
And in the process that DR will be able to post another post... (that was a clue)
...Before Wednesday (that was another clue).
PLEASE COME CELEBRATE MY IMPENDING ASCENSION TO "HHW GOD"
WITH AN ARRAY OF HORS D'OEUVRES AND DRINK (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
TIME: ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH WHEN THE WALKING TOUR HITS MIDTOWN
PLACE: AT OUR NON-DELUXE APARTMENT IN THE SKY
Now that's what I call a hint!
DR vixmom - Did DR FJL's "hint" help?
;)
PLACE: AT OUR NON-DELUXE APARTMENT IN THE SKY
Actually, it's on whether I make it to Godhood by Wednesday or not. Hope people can make it. (But I'll understand if the vixter will be too tuckered out at that point.)
There is a great review of "Harvey Schmidt plays Jones and Schmidt" on Playbill.Com today... even though the critic refered to BK's old series of CDs as "Lost in Broadway". However they don't give the URL so people can order it. However it's the kind of review that makes people want to run out and buy it (if they don't already have it).
Lovely weather today in my section of Indiana.
some unscruplulous Marylanders)
Delawarians, my dear!
Was that you in the sling, or did we meet at the Meatrack later?
der Bruce
what am I, chopped liver? You are the Red Delicious Apple of our eye. ;)
At the very least, we can blame it on our youth. Lordy! I hope you weren't one of those nameless men I chanced to meet.
We could also discuss The Ice Palace, Clyde's, The Anvil. . . :o
I've pretty much given up on the trivia question. I think I've looked at the ibdb for every nonmusical show with a cast of more than 15 during the past few days.
As for the mystery lady...well.... I never did find out her name...Having a mystery lady in one's life is always a bonus.
What has happened to this site during the daytime hours?
Just because I can no longer post from work, does that mean that everyone's mind has left the gutter???
I can't believe that Mr. Barnum offered Jose a two-hour ride on a ferry, and NO ONE had a single comment???
Two fairies on a ferry ferreting out food - fun!
Are Jewish people even allowed to clean their apartments on Rosh Hashanah?
There's Jason posting now! I asked The Punk if she had a good time talking to folks and she said, "You can't hear anyone in there." So I guess I'm glad I didn't make it, as I have a low tolerance for LOUD.
What is ON the lower level?
A very big Thank You to Ben and Anthony for giving us the grand tour of their apartment. Michael particularly enjoyed some of the photographs from Ant's production of Forum. Ah, those Greeks! -I mean Romans... well, Greeks.
;)
Oh, look...Post number 1500!! Huzzah! It's a banner day...
*And there was a celebrity sighting there tonightt too - Graham Norton. I guess he headed over there after the tech for his new show which starts tomorrow night.
