Well, you've read the notes, you're on the lookout for giant mutant killer rabbits, and now it is time for you to post until the killer kows kome home.

Anyway.....I am sure the DRHISAKA appreciated your playing host to her visit to a FOREIGN country, and I can't imagine a nicer LA tour guide.

DR CP you are correct OUT OF THE PAST is a very good Mitchum movie, but Jane Greer is not a passion of mine the way Jane Russell or even Lizabeth Scott can be.  Remember Liz and Mary Astor as mother and daughter in DESERT FURY?

Lovely theme song to Night of the Lepus, however, MR BK, I think that it should be sung by Kenny Miller!

Of course, I meant giant ANIMAL movie, not just giant BUG movie.

TOTD "The Andromeda Strain"

Oooo...I loved this movie. ;D Also, "Godzilla."  I've only seen the version with Raymond Burr and I didn't care at all for the Matthew Broderick remake.  The story was just dumb. :P

There are others, but I can't think of any at 1:07 a.m. PDT.  Maybe later.

Oh, my this here site has been exceedingly difficult to access this morning. Just going from page to page to read the posts has taken many minutes and I got the "too many connections" error at one point (I'm the only person here right now!) and I also got "page cannot be displayed" a couple of times.

Oh, well. I'm here. Me thinks it will be a slow news day at HHW what with Mr. BK off on business and half of our posters wandering around Manhattan getting an education in food and New York history.

In spite of the fun planned for today, I still have to work. Bye for now.

I'm up!   I'm up!  In fact, I've BEEN up since 6:30 AM but I could NOT get on the board.  I finely came down to the business center because I didn't know if it was the internet connection of the hotel or the board itself.

I haven't seen anyone else up and about as of yet.

I am SOOOO looking forward to today.  I just wish there was a way that we could ALL be here.

Gotta scoot--

I'll be in the breakfast room if anyone is looking for me.  At eight or so we are all (that is if DR Jane gets up) heading over to the meeting place.

I have my PDA and wi fi card.  I shall attempt to post along the way,  if the board will let me on.

This is Danise Hegerty, reporting LIVE and IN PERSON in NYC!!!   ;D

Laters all!

Roving correspondents and everything! It will be quite a day in lower Manhattan.

Things seem to be a little better getting on board.

Good Morning Jose.

No sign of our late night/early morning friends Larry and Tom. Perhaps they were here and gone already. Perhaps they had trouble getting on.

Well, as DR Ben pointed out, I shall indeed be responsible for some of the errant and truantness today.  So, yes, You  can blame Jose.

;)

And on that note, I must ready myself to head down to Rockefeller Center.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Hi Jose and everybody -

Looking forward to having as many of the group as want to come over for happy hour (5-to 6-ish, right?) and a rest from your wanderings!  There'll be really good food (mostly not kosher, despite the holiday) and drink - Skip makes a great host, I'm only OK, but Skip makes up for that.  :)

Could you guys give me a half-hour (or 20-minute) warning before you guys get here?  And please let me know at that point approx. how many people it will be so that we can let the "guard" downstairs know in advance.

It's Manhattan Plaza, home to many many stars of stage, stage and screen, but you WON'T be seeing any of them (unless they happen to be in the lobby),  just little old us.

And anyone not doing the walking tour (Elmore?  Ben?  Anyone else?) you're of course welcome to stop by also.  If you can come and need directions, my AOL address is dylan43rd.

See you laters,
Fred

Good morning, all!  With DRMBarnum out of my hair, I mean visiting the wonderful TPunk and Rodzniski, I slept a bit late this morning.  I've got a day of personal business here in the apartment, so Chicago Humanities Festival, Ms Leslei Uggams, and Toyland are on hold today.

DRDanise, I think it's great we'll have a reporter on the case today.

DRCharlesPogue, I too prefer Mr Mitchum to Ms Garbo; my favorite film is NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, which seems apropos for a giant rabbit day.

TOD:  TARANTULA
         THEM!
         THE DEADLY MANTIS
         EARTH VS THE SPIDER
         THE GIANT CLAW
         MYSTERIOUS ISLAND
Title: Re:KILLER RABBITS

Topic of the day:  Hands down, ALLIGATOR, about an alligator that mutated after being flushed down the toilet and entering the city's toxic sewer system.  A really good movie, though, so maybe it doesn't qualify.  I think someone had posted the art work from it a few weeks ago.

I like some of Miss Garbo's films and I like some of Mr. Mitchum's films. There is no need to choose, at least not for me.

Favorite Garbo - ANNA KARENINA

Favorite Mitchum - NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

Good morning!

It is a very overcast day here, but I can once again feel the humidity building as the temp rises toward 80. However, there is supposed to be a steady dropping of highs and lows by the weekend, so fall seems definitely to be here.

Title: Re:KILLER RABBITS
Post by: Matt H. on October 05, 2005, 06:54:14 AM
I did take my walk this morning, and the breeze that is present offset some of the humidity in the air.

In a little while (a ONCE UPON A MATTRESS reference), I must get cleaned up for my DVD shopping excursion.

On the topic of the day, I think I've mentioned many times that TARANTULA! is unquestionably my favorite giant bug movie. I think THEM! is probably a better film, and both of them scared the daylights out of me as a kid, but now, if I'm going to watch a giant bug movie, I pull out the videotape of TARANTULA!

Hey, Universal! how about putting this out on DVD!

Okay, now that DRMBarnum is out of here, I have to begin fumigating - spoo, laundry!

BTW, DRMBarnum seems to have left a pair of underwear behind, so I'm happy to send the briefs to the highest bidder.  If the bids are too low, I'll give them to DRJose for Christmas.

Would THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN fit into this genre?

The spider and house cat DO become giant creatures once he starts to shrink!

That's another film that NEEDS to be on DVD!

GREETINGS FROM WUSSBURGERVILLE!

Although I have been E & T to an extreme degree, I will be joining the New York contingent today, somewhat late, but definitely for dinner.

I am going in to the city to see a friend I haven't seen for over twenty years--whom I met, FJL will be interested to know, at the BMI Workshop.  After that, I will give Jose a beep to find out where all of y'all are and try to intercept you.

Gotta catch a train.

Ciao for niao, as Jason is wont to say.

I'm congested.  Have been for about a week.  I'm hacking up some gross stuff every morning (sharing is a WONderful thing!).

I know I've eaten more then my share of all kinds of goodies today and am still hungrey!

Don't know if you saw us on the Today show.  I tried Bruce.  I made a sign that said "What is it, Fish? HHW, Hi Bruce!" but I don't think it made it on air.  Sorry.

File this under "It figures."

Jose led us to a "toy store" in SoHo.  Yep, a kitchen supply store, the Broadway Panhandler.

I'm in there, just looking.

Der Brucer comes in, and in just two minutes finds a toaster exactly like what he wants...and it's on sale!

OK, after a few minutes more I found myself a great kitchen scale with a tare function, but it figures der B would find a toy he wants quicker than I could.

I've been going, going, going and soon I will be gone, on my way to LACC.  Only did a portion of the shipping I had to do (will do the rest first thing in the morning), but got a lot done on the LACC front (I tell you, putting stuff on paper is really a reality check - we've got a long way to go, baby), and did all my errands, so that's good.  Tomorrow will be crazy, too, as I have to go pull charts for various things, and that always takes forever.

It does seem like a slow news day, but some of us are trying.

For example, I am on my way downstairs to clean my den and then finish MISSION IMPOSSIBLE so I can start CINDERELLA.

October is shaping up to be a wonderfully theatre-filled month around here.  After closing Charley's Aunt this past weekend, DG Ann and I will be seeing Suessical at Seattle Children's Theatre on Saturday afternoon, followed by seeing our very own TCB in My Fair Lady at Tacoma Musical Playhouse that same night.  The following Saturday night we will see a good friend of mine in The Last 5 Years at Leavenworth Summer Theater (even though it's not quite summer...), and two weeks after that we see Sweeney Todd at the 5th Avenue in Seattle.  I love it!

I am very ANGRY!

Can you spell ANGRY?

M-o-o-n, that spells ANGRY!

I pre-ordered "Cinderella" MONTHS ago.

I've waited and waited and waited.  Amazon promises it will ship within 24 hours if you just order it right now.

They've had it since yesterday.

My order for it, among others for later this month and next, clearly is designated "ship as item becomes availalble."

It HAS NOT shipped.

OH, NO!

It's linked -- SOMEhow -- with the release date for the 3-DVD "Wizard of Oz" set.  It's being HELD to ship WITH "Oz".

I'm very ANGRY.

I'm also LIVID.

Can you spell LIVID?

M-o-o-n, that spells LIVID.

Nasty e-mail was sent to Amazon.com customer service...yeah, you betcha!

DR RLP - this happened to me a couple of times.  Usually Amazon will make it right, of course that doesn't get you CINDERELLA today.  And usually when I order something as a pre-release it is shipped the Saturday before and I have it on Monday or Tuesday.

Someone at Amazon dropped the ball!

It's not the first time this happened with a pre-order.

Something is wrong within the online ordering system, apparently.

I joined their "prime account" club which, for a $75 fee, gives me 2-day delivery and free shipping for a year.  It was paid for within a month.

I expected that DVD to arrive as early as today, but not later than tomorrow.  As it stands, I have no idea when I'll get it.

I wants what I wants when I wants it!  That's my trouble, that is.

This has been a crazy day at work!

Amazing what happens to a daycare facility when just three teachers call in sick.  Suddenly the structure seems to be crashing down, as we desperately try to shuffle kids and teachers around to stay in the state-mandated ratios.  God help us if we don't.  I was supposed to leave early today for a doctors appointment...my boss practically got down on her knees to beg me to reschedule.  Since the doctor didn't charge a fee, I obliged.  I must say, I think I earned some major brownie points today :)

So now the early shift teachers are starting to leave, and we're running out of options.  I have toddlers in with my infants, and when my co-teacher leaves in 10 minutes, I'm not entire sure WHAT I'm gonna do...it should be interesting!

P.S. Glad to see that DB Jed has hooked us up with MFL tickets.  What a wonderful month of theater this is turning out to be :D

Off to dinner at La Coccina.

I'm drunk.  Two margaritas and a cheap drunk.  I have to say how much I love these crazy HHW folk!  This was such a swell event.  It was great to see Woody, Der Brucer, and Bill Orr again.   I adore Cillaliz, with whom I did not get to spend nearly enough time, I've know Ginny for years, and I feel I've known Michael, Danise and Jane for that long as well.  I dearly love them all.  As for my usual New York cronies - Ben, Rodzinski, TPunk, Jason, FJL,and our newly-immigrated Jose - who could ask for more supportive friends and partners-in-crime?  Such great folk, and now I want to meet more of you.

So enough mush already.  I had nachos supreme, a lot of guacamole, a seafood burrito and the two drinks that knocked me on my ass.

Ta!

DRJRand55, there will be photos!

I hate to mention CINDERELLA knowing that DR Ron is rightfully angry about Amazon's inept handling of his account.

But I must say that the movie does look simply spotless in the presentation. Other than its aspect ratio, there is nothing that would give it away as not having been made yesterday. The enhanced home theater mix is another sterling achievement.

As we were mentioning yesterday, CINDERELLA is a perfect pleasant entertainment, but it doesn't have the excitement or danger that SLEEPING BEAUTY has, and, of course, the richness of design and color aren't in the same category either.

But given what they had to work with, the movie could not look more glorious.

I also finished MISSION IMPOSSIBLE tonight before watching CINDERELLA.

I guess Paramount isn't going to touch this again in standard DVD. I guess we won't get a real anamorphic version of the movie until Paramount releases a high definition version of the film. I guess I'll have to be content with what we have.

I'm sorry folks but your on the spot reporter is to pooped to post.

I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful day/evening I had.  Tales were told.  The dish was dished.  We laughed.  Oh, yes, we laughed until we could thought we could no more then laughed again.

We ate.  Oh yes, we ate until we thought we could eat no more and then we ate some more.

We walked.  Oh YES, we walked until we thought we could walk no more (and I have the aches and pains to prove it) and then we walked some more.

We took pictures.  Oh yes we took...well I think by now you are sensing a pattern.

Thank you to DR FJL for allowing all of us into your home.  In case I didn't tell you, that was very nice of the both of you to set out such a nice spread of cheese and wine and grapes and everything else.

DR Elmore, I'm an even cheeper drunk then you.  One sip of your drink and I'm out of it.  Of course, I'm so tired right now I don't think I was ever with it to start with!

Have a GREAT evening all.  I am going to bed.

After finishing CINDERELLA, I put on BYE BYE BIRDIE, the 1963 movie version of the show. Never one of my favorite movie musicals, I was also a bit disheartened when the credits came up after the title song because the color looked really weak, and I wasn't too sure about how sharp it was going to be.

Once the credits finished, though, the film looked just fine color-wise and in an enhanced transfer, it was plenty sharp.

I got right up to "Honestly Sincere," but then I had to stop it to watch LOST.

I won't put out any spoliers about LOST, but did want to mention there was one terrific surprise tonight.

I adore Cillaliz, with whom I did not get to spend nearly enough time!

Why thank you dear elmore, I adore you too, next time we'll have to make sure we have more time to spend together.

Today was wonderful. The Today Show, the tour, a brief break from the group to get together with Rupert, then back with the group in time for happy hour with Skip and FJL and off to dinner at La Cocina. This has been so much fun and I have to say I've had a wonderful time with each and every one of the DRs here in NYC. I feel relly lucky to know such a wonderful group of people.

The wireless internet doesn't work in my room and I'm too tired to sit and edit photos in the lobby/breakfast area, so I shall post photos another day.

A very very special thank you to DR Jose, you did a marvelous job of planning, tour guiding and being an all around really great guy.  You're the best!

I'm home and showered and, if you can believe it, eating a chocolate bar that I picked up at the candy store a mere 14 hours ago. Hehe...

I had such a good time with all of the visiting (and resident) HHW gang. DR Jose really outdid himself with the planning and scheduling of the tour today. Kudos to him. I hope you get yourself something real purdy at the Panhandle.

I also want to commend (and thank) DR FJL and his DP Skip for inviting us to invade their lovely home and disrupt their lives for a while. Your graciousness and generosity were much appreciated and your company was greatly enjoyed. And I absolutely LOVED Toby and Dillon.

So much food was consumed today by so many of us that I think that tomorrow there may be a mandatory ration throughout the City of York that is New. We had doughnuts, pudding, marzipan, halvah, gumbo, cupcakes, tofu, peanut butter tarts, cheeses of all sorts and God only knows what else. Some of the treats that I consumed were graciously purchased for me over the last couple of days. I won't name anyone by name so's to avoid embarassing anyone, but they know who they are and I am VERY grateful for your generosity.

And thanks to DR TPunk for being my walking mate for much of the day. It was really nice to get to know you better.

Oohhh... Aaaaah...

One of my roommates works at Origins, and today just happened to be the day where they get their "freebies" from the stock.  One of the freebies was a tube of their "Leg Lifts" lotion.  Oohh... Aaahh...

...Now I'm ready to walk another 5 miles!

DR Jose: You better head over to the Daryl Roth Theatre to catch Ms. McBroom's show ASAP - I just read on Playbill that it's closing on Sunday...

As I mentioned to Jason, we had seriously considered having a plate of carrot sticks during the happy hour in his honor.  But we weren't sure whether it was worth it just for a joke.

In retrospect, i wish we'd done it.  :)

Before I forget - and since I suspect I may be in a little bit of a rush tomorrow morning before I head down to Ripley-Grier...

DR MBarnum - Have a wonderful time in Queens.  Hope you find many more things to take back with you to Oregon.  -And, while you're in that neighborhood, be sure to try some Indian food!

It was a pleasure getting to you know you over the past couple of days, and you were the perfect "follower" to this "leader".  (No comments from the peanut gallery... a.k.a. DR elmore.)  I was more than happy to be your guide to my new home city.  During your next visit, we need to make to get you to see a Broadway show.  And get you to Splash on a Friday night.

:)

Have a good and safe flight back home.

Leg Lifts Lotion.  Such a concoction would be considered the devil's work out hyer in Indiana.

Ah, yes.. Amanda just sent me an e-mail regarding the early demise of her show.  I think I will be going Friday or Saturday night.  Wanna come?

...Oh, and I guess that means I won't be subbing in for it then...

DR Ginny - So good seeing you again too.  -And I hope your shoes and your feet are OK after today's trekking.  ;)

Have a good and safe flight to Atlanta, a good conference, and a good and safe trip back home to Ohio.

DR Ron Pulliam - Good Health Vibes to You!  This "stream" of "self-production" has been going on much too long.  Get Better, My Good Man!

-And I hope your "Cinderella"/Amazon.com woes are resolved soon too.

Well, I wasn't that tired... But I was slightly snookered, so ya' got that right.

And to those out-of-town DRs who will be in NYC for a few more days, feel free to call me if you need a restaurant suggestion.  Or a cool walking tour up and down the East Side.

;)

And I believe now is a good time to end my frenzy, as I should be getting to bed soon....

Once again, the people on this site continue to amaze me with their generosity of spirit and kindness - both on-line and in person.  We truly are a couple of swells.

And on that note...  An A - prime octave...

Goodnight.

Jose: Friday it is.

I'm not sure who is doing HONK! I just know I'm supposed to go with a friend from work.

I'm in the middle of emailing those two song files to most everyone per the instructions of DRs Elmore and MBarnum.

Back from a VERRRRY long day.  Need to sit on my couch like so much fish for a few minutes.

Just because there is a big gathering in NY, NY, does NOT mean we slack off on the postings.

Ron, I had the same problem with amazon - ordered on Monday, used Prime second day shipping - should have been here today.  Yesterday, it hadn't shipped, so I wrote them and they sent me some BS e-mail how there was a prob and they're working on it.  I called them this morning - calling is the ONLY way to get them to do anything.  The gal cancelled Monday's order, placed a new order today, and gave me free one day shipping, so I'll have the stuff tomorrow, or so I've been told.

One o'clock in the a.m. here on the Island of Long, and I am back from a fabulous day in New York with all sorts of lovely Hainsey/Kimlets.  A full report later from me and others.

I will, however, point out that DerBrucer and S. Woody White and I gamely walked from 43rd Street to 85th with Jose and others, whilst some of the youger wipper-snappers chose to ride the subway.

When I arrived home I found that my Joe had done all my usual evening tasks, set up the morning coffee, even laid out my clothes for work.  He only forgot one thing.  He forgot to eat.  Fortunately I found some left-over tuna casserole in the frij at midnight for him.

He was touched by all the hugs that you and you and you and you sent him via me.

And now I will hit the pillow, as I must arise at 5:00 for work.

P.S.  Larry, who was the high bidder on the underwear?

Nearly 4 hours of driving, but home safe and sound.  After 21 hours of neglect Fletcher came bouding up to greet me - all 85 lbs lunging at my head! Poor party passed out on heap on the floor from the excitement..

MY FEET HURT!!!!!

I shall work on some pictures and post them tomorrow (i.e in a few minutes)
